Born on February 17, 1934, in Rockhill, SC, she was the daughter of LeRoy and Florence (Smith) Paul. Mary grew up in South Carolina where she received her education. On October 18, 1961, Mary was united in marriage to Robert Owen Benton. Together they lived in various communities but mainly in the Minnesota and South Carolina area. She enjoyed gardening, Cooking, and traveling. Mary cherished the time she spent with her family, especially during the holidays, decorating her entire house for the occasion. She will be dearly missed.
Mary is survived by her children: James (Susan) Benton of Bessemer City, North Carolina, and Robert L. Benton of Lake Crystal; 10 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Clifton R. Benton Sr.; great grandson, Liam Cadenhead; and six siblings.

Joyce Ethel Ziemke - April 29, 1927 - May 22, 2023

Obituary Preview: JOYCE E. ZIEMKE, age 96 of Waseca died on Monday, May 22, 2023 at her home.
Born on April 29, 1927 in Cordova, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Edgar and Alice (Bosacker) Heilman. She grew up in the Cleveland and St. Peter area and attended Cleveland Schools. Joyce married Donald Ziemke on April 11, 1950 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in St. Peter. Over the years Joyce babysat, candled eggs and worked at a laundromat but her primary job was raising her family. She had a beautiful voice and sang for many weddings and funerals, sometimes with her sister Marion.
Joyce enjoyed quilting, following the MN Twins, watching game shows and Mollie B’s Polka Party. She was a member of North Waseca Lutheran Church where she directed the youth choir and was active with the WELCA and had served on the state board of the ELCA. She was known for her potato salad that was often served at church functions.
She is survived by her children, Terry (Julie) Ziemke of Waseca, Linda Ziemke of Waseca, Dean (Bev Attenberger) Ziemke of Mankato, Lu Anderson of Waseca, Tim (Bev) Ziemke of Owatonna, Todd (Jaylene) Ziemke of New Hampshire, and Gregg Ziemke of Waseca; 20 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Scott; son-in-law, Larry Anderson; and six siblings.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 from 4-7 PM at the Third Street Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service and continue on Thursday, one hour before services at the church.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at 11:00 AM at North Waseca Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at North Waseca Lutheran Cemetery.

Born on October 13, 1952 in Austin, MN, Kay was the daughter of Florimond and Stella (Schneider) Meister. She graduated from Waterville Elysian High School in 1970. On August 27, 1971, she was united in marriage to Michael Landrum in Faribault. They have enjoyed over 50 wonderful years together. “Kay was the sweetest loving person. She never judged or had a bad word for anyone. She struggled with repeated cancer for over 20 years and still always carried a smile for everyone she met, without complaining. She should be an inspiration to us all. I am a better man because of her, and the pain of loosing her will only end when I am reunited with her.”
Kay is survived by her husband, Michael Landrum of Owatonna; her sons, Ryan (Katie) Landrum of Waterville, Joshua Landrum of Eagle Lake; grandchildren, Taylor Landrum, Clare Landrum, Kiera Landrum, Kayla Landrum; two sisters, Irene Brandt of Winona, Kathy Meyer of Iowa City, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Florimond and Stella Meister; siblings, Lorraine Ludwig, David Meister, and Alan Meister.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Third Street Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Woodville Cemetery.

Thomas "Tom" Arthur Stewart - February 27, 1946 - May 14, 2023

Obituary Preview: THOMAS ARTHUR STEWART, age 77 of Greenfield, formerly of Waseca, passed away at his home on Sunday, May 14, 2023.
Tom was born in Waseca on February 27, 1946 to William and Frances (Blowers) Stewart. He grew up in the 1950’s on his family’s Waseca farm. He had a rich childhood and attended country school until the sixth grade and later Waseca public schools in town. Following his high school graduation Tom served in the United States Navy Reserves. He went on to study at Stout University and Dunwoody College. In addition to many years of farming, Tom owned and operated Royalton Heating and Cooling. He enjoyed traveling and had taken many fun trips with family and friends. He was a generous, hardworking man, and his loss will be closely felt by all of his family and friends.
Tom is survived by his wife, Laura Link-Stewart of Greenfield; children Jennifer VonEnde, Laura Stewart, Amy Breazeale, Brady Stewart, and Ryan (Asma) Stewart; sixteen grandchildren, Kyle VonEnde, Amanda (Peter) McPhail, Austin Witthuhn, Ashley Hood, Zachary Stewart, Madison Stewart, Nathan Stewart, Conner Stewart, Hudson Stewart, Zubair Stewart, Frannie Breazeale, Tommy Breazeale, Suleiman Stewart, Safia Stewart, Hussein Stewart, and Ahmad Stewart; three great-grandchildren, Shiloh VonEnde, Sawyer McPhail, and Dawson McPhail; brother, Daniel (Patty) Stewart; sister, Liane (Matt) Keane; sister-in-law, Debbie Cowles; nieces and nephews; and former spouse, Susan Stewart. Lowell Jennings Wadd - October 21, 1925 - May 12, 2023

Obituary Preview: LOWELL JENNINGS WADD, age 97, of Waseca died on Friday, May 12, 2023 at Foxdale Memory Care in Waseca.
Born on October 21, 1925, in Waseca, he was the son of Oscar and Anna (Engebretson) Wadd. He attended Waseca Central High School, graduating with the class of 1943. Following his education, Lowell enlisted in the US Navy where he attended Great Lakes Naval Academy before being deployed to Yokosuka Japan. On April 16, 1955, Lowell was united in marriage to Janice Geyer at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville. They began their married life in Mankato for a couple of years where Lowell worked for Brown and Legal Construction Company. In 1958, Lowell and Janice made their home in Waseca while raising two sons.
Lowell worked various jobs throughout his life, most notably with Atlas Construction in French Morocco, Leon Joyce in Rochester, SMC in Mankato and the Waseca County Highway Department prior to his retirement. He was a member at North Waseca Lutheran Church, VFW Post 1642, the American Legion Post 228 and IOUE Local 49 where he was recently recognized with his 60 year membership pin. He cherished the time he spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.
Lowell is survived by his sons, Curtis (Lisa) of Madison Lake and Craig (June) of Mesa, AZ; grandsons, Caleb Wadd and Isaac Wadd; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice; parents, Oscar and Anna; and brothers, Edgar and Marvin.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at North Waseca Lutheran Church in rural Waseca with Rev. Sarah Krolak officiating. The visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Private family interment will take place on Monday at North Waseca Lutheran Cemetery.

Merle Ellsworth Johannsen - May 27, 1928 - May 09, 2023

Obituary Preview: MERLE ELLSWORTH JOHANNSEN, age 94, of New Richland, died on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Waseca.
Merle was born on May 27, 1928, to Harry and Stella (Johnson) Johannsen. He graduated from Freeborn High School with the class of 1946. Merle was united in marriage to Betty Jean Drake on May 28, 1947. Merle and Betty began their married life together in Wells where they welcomed their two sons into their family. In 1959, they moved to New Richland where Merle began working for People’s Natural Gas which later became Northern Natural Gas and lastly Enron. In retirement Merle stayed busy helping his neighbors, family and friends with many of their plumbing and heating needs. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, his guns, and spending his summers with Betty in their motorhome in Nisswa. Together, Merle and Betty shared 76 years of marriage before Betty passed away on February 27, 2023. Merle was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland. Blessed be his memory.
Merle is survived by his son, Terry (Janel) Johannsen of Waseca; grandchildren: Greg Johannsen, Kari Lemons, Jason Johannsen, Shawn Johannsen, and Jennifer Johannsen; great grandchildren: Sarah Johannsen, Jada Johannsen, Tyrese McCain, Isaiah McCain, Makayla Johannsen, and Corey Lemons; other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife; parents; son, Jack and his wife, Lonnie Johannsen.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland. Interment will be in St. Olaf Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Phyllis Ann Broughton - August 23, 1927 - May 07, 2023

Obituary Preview: Phyllis Ann Broughton, age 95, of Waseca passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023 at Mayo Health Systems in Mankato.
Born on August 23,1927 in Mason City, Iowa, Phyllis was the daughter of Myron and Amie (Talbott) Atkinson. She attended Waseca Public Schools. She was united in marriage to Mickey Iverson. They spent many wonderful years together, especially at their cabin on Cedar Lake, before his passing. Together, they raised four children. Phyllis worked various jobs throughout her life, most notably at Owatonna City Hospital, Owatonna Public Schools, and most recently Lakeshore Rehabilitation Center. She married Stanley Broughton and spent many years together before his passing.
Phyllis spent most of her life serving others. She was an active member at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca. At Grace, she was the Vice President of the women’s group, a member of Grace Circle, the prayer chain, the food shelf, and the quilting club. She was also very involved with her family. She enjoyed spending time with her children and all the generations that came after. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Richard (Joan) Iverson of Alexandria, Penny (David) Isaacson of Northfield, John (Lylia) Iverson of Medford, Peggy (Curtis) Radtke of Kenyon; thirteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; seven great great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Mickey Iverson, Stanley Broughton; parents; two sisters; and four brothers.
The family would like to thank Lakeshore Rehabilitation Center’s staff for the loving care Phyllis received over the past months along with the residents for their friendship. They would also like to thank Mayo Health Systems in Mankato for their care and compassion.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 11, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca with Rev. Paige Whitney officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Woodville Cemetery.

Born June 25, 1945, in Columbia, Kentucky, a son of the late Charlie Anderson Hadley and Willie Roxie (Andrew) Hadley. On October 10, 1969, he married Linda Sue Raider in Ann Arbor, Michigan, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Russell Spring Schools. Earl was a real simple guy. He loved gardening, watching old westerns and spending time with his friends and family. He was a chef and worked at various restaurants throughout his life. He attended Christ Community Church in Waseca.
He is survived by one son, Michael (Jeannie) Hadley, one daughter, Patty Spoonamore; grandchildren, Alexandra (Jarred) Knapp, Zacahry (Morgan) Hadley, Isabella Hadley, Jacob Hadley; three siblings, Geraldine Wilson, Randall Hadley and Patti Dunbar.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son, Dwayne Hadley, and siblings, Lola May King, William Snow Hadley, Audra Morgan, Hazel Morgan, Gobel Hadley, Paul Hadley, Herbert Hadley, and Glen Hadley.
In honoring Earl’s wishes, he will be cremated. The family would like to extend special thanks to the Waseca Hospital Staff, Mankato Hospital, 4600 wing, and Mayo Hospice. A memorial service will be held at 7 PM on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Christ Community Church in Waseca. William was born in Des Moines, IA, on June 1, 1946. He was adopted by John William and Dorothy Ann (Hample) Foster. As a child his family moved to Waseca, and he attended Waseca Schools. Following his graduation from Waseca Central High School, Fred was drafted into the United States Army, and served his country in Vietnam. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Minnesota and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree. In addition to working various odd jobs around southern Minnesota, Fred’s more important role was caring for his parents. He enjoyed fishing and listening to music, and was a member of the Waseca VFW.
Fred is survived by his sister, Barbara Ann Fritz of McGregor and her son Kurt John Fritz of McGregor; as well as numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother-in-law, John Leo Fritz.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 12, 2023 at the Third Street Chapel of Dennis-Steffel Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service in Waseca. Visitation will be held for one hour before the service at the funeral home. DeEtta was born October 9, 1939 to Richard and Elsie Lutz. DeEtta graduated from Mankato High School in 1957. She was united in marriage to Dale Benedict on October 17, 1960. They enjoyed 50 years together and were the parents of six children. They lived in and were active in their church and community in the Janesville and Waseca area.
DeEtta is survived by her six children, Mark (Robin) Benett of Peyton, Colorado, Janice (Bob) Cords of Waseca, Joyce (Monte) Umstead of Eagle Grove, Iowa, Patti (special friend Bob) Benedict of Janesville, Lynn (Bruce) Strunk of Waseca, Diane (Mark) Koziolek of Janesville; thirteen grandchildren, Matthew (Clarisa) Benett, Amanda Benett, Traci (Dave) Hodgkins, Tyler (special friend Kallie) Cords, Valarie (Chris) Webb, Andrew (Rachel) Erdman, Lucas (fiancé Elizabeth) Umstead, Jeston (Jamie) Umstead, Janelle (Nick) Berg, Jacob (special friend Brandi) Witt, Nathan Witt, Reva (special friend Dylon) Strunk, Mara (special friend Nick) Strunk; eleven great-grandchildren, Henry and Oliver Benett, Bailey and Gavin Hodgkins, Joshua and Lindsey Webb, Riddley and Olive Erdman, Raevyn Umstead, Braydon Cousins, KayleAhna and Jamison Berg. DeEtta is preceded in death by her husband, Dale Eugene Benedict; parents, Elsie and Richard Lutz; sister, Geraldine Braun; mother and father-in-law, Ethel and Page Benedict; sisters-in-law, Vivian LeBrun, MaryJane Bair, Eva Hughes; and brothers-in-law, Allen Braun and Tom Hughes.

Born in New Market on July 16, 1929, Dorothy was the daughter of Peter and Anna (Steimens) Thomas. She attended school in New Market. On June 29, 1948, she was married to Albert Carpenter in Faribault. Dorothy worked in several capacities throughout southern Minnesota over her working years, and made many lifelong friends in the process. She enjoyed flower gardening, watching “Bandwagon” and listening to polka music, playing bingo, and baking pies and donuts. She was a long-time member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca.
Dorothy is survived by two children, Richard Carpenter of Faribault and Alvina Peterson of Waseca; four grandchildren and their spouses; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Ambrose Thomas of Faribault and Alvin Thomas of Prescott, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Bill, Elmer, and Sylvester; two sisters, Jenny and Alvina; her daughter-in-law, Sharon; and her son-in-law, Neil.
A private family event will be held at the funeral home.  Public graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 8, 2023 at Calvary Cemetery in Waseca.

Ronald "Ron" David Fuchs - November 04, 1948 - April 25, 2023

Obituary Preview: RONALD DAVID FUCHS, age 74 of Waseca, died in the early morning of Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at Oaklawn Rehabilitation Center in Mankato.
Ron was born on November 4, 1948 in Wells to Alvin and Marie (Demmen) Fuchs. He graduated from Wells High School before serving in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. Ron received several awards during his military service, and was a Purple Heart recipient. After his honorable discharge, Ron attended Albert Lea Vo-Tech where he was trained in mechanical drafting. On November 30, 1968 Ron married Adoris Meyer at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells. He went on to work for the E.F. Johnson Company in Waseca before his retirement. Ron enjoyed hunting, fishing, tinkering in the garage, and building things with his grandchildren. He was also known to friends and family to be a master of silicone caulk… and there wasn’t much he couldn’t “fix”. He was a long-time member and former commander of Waseca’s Sweet-Sommers VFW Post 1642, and led the effort for hundreds of military funeral honors.
Ron is survived by his wife Adoris of Waseca; two sons, Christopher (Roben) Fuchs of Waseca and Matthew (Cara) Fuchs of Shakopee; three grandchildren, Bella, Braden, and Brody Fuchs of Shakopee; and three sisters, Nancy (Larry) Nelson of Freeborn, Linda (Cliff) McGuire of Grand Rapids, and Shirley (David) Fuchs of Conger. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his parents; and one brother, Kevin Fuchs.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at the third street chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Services in Waseca, with Rev. Born on December 11, 1943 in Waseca, he was the son of Donald and Ethel (Jeddeloh) Kaiser. He graduated from Waseca High School with the class of 1961. Following his education, he worked in construction. He helped build steel buildings and bridges for over twenty years. He later went on to work at Walmart and Owatonna Public Schools as a custodian before retiring due to his health. On October 4, 1969, he was joined in marriage to Judy Stephan at Faith United Methodist Church in Waseca.
In his free time, Robert enjoyed ice fishing, bear, and deer hunting. He enjoyed rooting for every Minnesota sports team, especially the Twins. He loved baseball and was inducted to the Waseca Baseball Hall of Fame. He would often spend time at Canterbury Park to see the horse races. He especially loved spending his time with his grandchildren. Whether it was a concert or a sporting event, he was always there for support. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be very missed.
Robert is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judy Kaiser of Waseca; children, Tami (Chris) Beman of Owatonna, Tom Kaiser (Heidi Wiitanen) of Waseca; grandsons, Tylor Beman, Justin Beman, Nathan Kaiser; brother, Mike Kaiser of Waseca; sisters, Judie (Rich) O’Brien of Sioux Falls, SD, Janet (Mitch) Clow of Elbow Lake; sister-in-law, Sheila Kaiser of Waseca; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David Kaiser; nephew, Brian Kaiser; and grandson, Brandon Beman.

Obituary Preview: WAYNE C. HURSH, age 97, of Waseca, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.
Born in Valley County, Hinsdale, MT on April 17, 1925, he was the son of Lynn L. and Rebecca A. (Riddle) Hursh. He graduated from Anaconda High School, Anaconda, MT. After serving in the U.S. Navy during and after World War II, he attended the University of Montana at Missoula. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree. He married Frances C. Papke on June 10, 1967 at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Waseca. He worked for and managed various pharmacies, the last being Erickson’s Valu Drug of Waseca. He retired in July 1990 but continued to do pharmacy relief work through 1995. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Waseca.
Wayne is survived by wife of 55 years, Frances of Waseca; brother, Robert of Choteau, MT; sister, Lynne Corbett of Gooding, ID; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; one sister; and five sisters-in-law.
The family would like to thank the care and compassion provided by dear friends, neighbors, providers at Mayo Hospital – Mankato and staff at Colony Court. We are so grateful. We didn’t realize how many angels on Earth there are.
Memorial service will be 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca with Rev. Bob Lund officiating. Visitation will be a half hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.

Obituary Preview: JANICE HARRIET WADD, age 88, of Waseca died on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Colony Court in Waseca.
Born on March 17, 1935, in St. Peter, she was daughter of Viola Geyer. Janice spent most of her childhood years being raised by her beloved uncles, Edgar and Leonard Geyer and aunt, Mabel Geyer. She attended Waterville Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1953. On April 16, 1955, Janice was united in marriage to Lowell Wadd at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville. They began their married life in Mankato for a couple of years where Janice worked for Brett’s Department Store. In 1958, Janice and Lowell made their home in Waseca while raising two sons.
Janice worked as the Activities Director at Lake Shore Inn for many years up until her retirement. Later in life she enjoyed volunteering with Waseca Area Hospice. Janice and Lowell enjoyed their summers camping with their camper trailer at Clarks Campground in Elysian and spending their winters camping in Arizona. She was a member of North Waseca Lutheran Church and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Janice was very outgoing and always welcomed visitors. She cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.
Janice is survived by her husband of 67 years: Lowell of Waseca; sons: Curtis (Lisa) of Madison Lake and Craig (June) of Mesa, AZ; grandsons: Caleb Wadd and Isaac Wadd; other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her mother; uncles: Edgar and Leonard Geyer; and aunt, Mabel (Geyer) Rausch.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM on Monday, April 17, 2023, at North Waseca Lutheran Church in rural Waseca with Rev. Sarah Krolak officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Born to Helmuth and Clara (Klinger) Barbknecht on April 18, 1939, in Waseca. Les attended Waseca Country School and Waseca Central High School. On August 12, 1961, he was united in marriage to Sue Johnson at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca.
Les was raised on a farm in rural Janesville. He spent the majority of his career as an auto mechanic. He owned Les’ DX gas station in Waseca for two years. He then worked at Pure Oil/Union 76, Hasselquist Pontiac/Buick/GMC, Countryside Motors, and Gambles Hardware. In retirement, Les worked at Waseca Lakeside Club and First National Bank. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. In his free time, he enjoyed collecting antique farm equipment and attending pioneer power shows. Les especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Les is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sue Barbknecht of Waseca; children, Lori Barbknecht of Waseca, Larry Barbknecht of rural Waseca, Robert (Andrea) Barbknecht of Eden Prairie; grandchildren, Amanda Balk, Brittany Henkensiefken, Sara Henkensiefken, Abbi Barbknecht, Anna Barbknecht, and Luke Barbknecht; siblings, Wayne (Rosanne) Barbknecht of rural Janesville, and Donald (Barbara) Barbknecht of Monmouth, OR; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Born on June 24, 1930 in Mankato, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Verner and Stella (Geary) Crane. She graduated from Pemberton Public School in 1948 and went on to attend Mankato Commercial College. Gert was united in marriage to Darrell Schubbe on August 15, 1951. She worked in the clerical and secretarial field for many years. Together with her husband and son, they owned and operated the Waldorf Kerr McGee Station in Waldorf from 1980 until their retirement.
Gert was a long time member of Medo Lutheran Church in rural Pemberton until it’s closing. Most recently, she had attended Zoar United Church of Christ in Waldorf. Gert had served as secretary of the Morrow Cemetery for many years. She was a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants and the Minnesota Society of Mayflower Descendants being a 10th generation descendant from John Alden and Priscilla Mullins. Gert and Darrell also worked in Admissions at the Coliseum at the Minnesota State Fair for 20 years. She was KEYC TV’s 2004 Good People Jefferson Award recipient.
Gert is survived by her husband, Darrell of Pemberton; two children, Linda (Larry) Born of Waseca and Larry Schubbe of Pemberton; three grandchildren, Jess (Angie) Brandt, Travis (Emily) Schubbe, and Brent (Aley) Schubbe; and one great granddaughter, Ava Schubbe. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Neva Ikier and Edith Hopman.
A celebration of Gert’s life will be held at the Main Street Plaza in Pemberton on Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 2:30 – 5:00 PM. Private family services are being held. Burial will be at the Morrow Cemetery in Beauford Township, Blue Earth County.

Obituary Preview: ALAN MARK BETHKE "BIG BLOCK AL", age 62, of Waseca died on March 31, 2023 at his home, following a brief battle with cancer.
Born on November 2, 1960, in Waseca to Donald E. and Sharon (Calcutt) Bethke. He received much of his education at Waseca Public Schools. In his younger years, he enjoyed raising pigeons and rabbits, riding horses, playing in the hay loft, collecting hot wheels, and building model cars. In his twenties, Al lived in Colorado and California but always considered Waseca his home. He enjoyed many trips to Sturgis for the Black Hills Motorcycle Rally. Al worked for McQuay’s, Misgen’s, Napa Auto Parts as well as owning and operating his own repair shop “Al’s Repair”.
Al had an appetite for anything that had a motor including, muscle cars, minibikes, snowmobiles, and motorcycles; this was his passion. He was the "go to" guy for anything “Big Block Chevy” as well as all other types of motors. He loved showing his cars and talking about where he found his parts. He was a muscle car savant. He enjoyed gardening and canning his produce.
Al had a heart of gold. He loved completely and unconditionally. Al was proud and stubborn but determined. His sense of humor was witty and his ability to make an ordinary event hilarious was unchallenged. Al knew how to weave his humor into any situation even if the joke was on him. He lived by his convictions; Al had strong beliefs and lived his life with integrity. He will be dearly missed.
Al is survived by his mother, Sharon (Larry) Reese of Owatonna; sisters: Patricia (Chad) Oehlenschlager of Alexandria, and Kim Tysdale of Owatonna; nieces: Kelly Tysdale and Cienna Turner; nephew, Adam Oehlenschlager; step sister, Tammy Reese of Arizona; aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Preceded in death by his father, Donald E. Bethke; maternal and paternal grandparents; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at the Third Street Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service in Waseca. Burial will be on a later date at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Meriden.

Tom was born on August 28, 1939, to Thomas and Stella (Strand) Ewing, in Minneapolis. He graduated from Central High School, in Minneapolis. He furthered his education at the University of Minnesota and University of Mary in Bismarck, ND. He proudly served in the MN Army National Guard. On December 16, 1961, he was joined in marriage to Harriet Kimberly at the United Methodist Church in Anoka. Together, they raised their three children, Jeanne, Mike, and Jenn.
Tom spent his career as an accountant and later worked in customer service. In his free time, Tom spent much of his time volunteering. He was a proud blood and plasma donor with over 39 gallons donated throughout his lifetime. He was an Eagle Scout and was active with the North Star Boy Scout Council. Tom was a dedicated member to the Masons, where he received the Hiram Award for outstanding service to Freemasonry. His family brought much joy to his life and was very proud of his children, grandchildren and would spend his time attending and helping at their activities. He will be dearly missed.
Tom is survived by his wife of 61 years, Harriet Ewing of Waseca; children, Jeanne (Thomas) Sexton of Waseca, Michael (Kristin) Ewing of Saint Cloud, Jenn (Nick) Johnson of Shoreview; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Stella Ewing; and brother, William Ewing.

Born in Chicago on February 13, 1964, Queen was the daughter of Jesse and Zealo (Johnson) Williams. She attended DuSable High School in Chicago before picking up and moving to Waseca to offer her family a better life. She worked at Itron in Waseca and SPX in Owatonna before returning to Chicago for a short time to attend college. She was trained to become a medical assistant, and then returned to Waseca with her husband, George Anderson. Queen was a God-fearing, compassionate, kind woman who fiercely loved her family, the color purple, Tupac Shakur’s music, and rooting for the underdog in any situation. She also loved dancing, music, reading, was a fantastic BBQ cook, and was famous for her caramel cake. She was greatly loved and will be sorely missed.
Queen is survived by four children, Anthony Johnson of Mankato, Quintin Johnson of Waseca, Quenilla (Matt) Evans of Faribault, and Kylie Lando of Waseca; nineteen grandchildren; nine siblings, Willie Williams, James Johnson, Linda Love, Stanford Williams, Emma Williams, Jesse Johnson, Chrondalet Johnson, Zeola Johnson, and Charles Johnson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by both of her parents; and three siblings, Yvonne Williams, Johnny Johnson, and George Williams.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at the Waseca Christian Assembly, with Rev. Brad Wickersheim officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Together they raised their family in Owatonna and Waseca. Mike worked at the Alcorn Ethanol Plant in Claremont. He was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna, and he enjoyed playing “World of Warcraft” and spoiling his three dogs. More than anything, though, he loved spending time with his family and three grandkids.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Brenda Patterson of Waseca; three children Courtney (Derek VonBank) Wolf of Waseca, Tammy (Derek) Knotts of TN, and Kevin Patterson of Jordan; three grandchildren, Tyler Wolf, Brayden Wolf, and Ava VonBank; three siblings, Jennifer (Michael) Cohen of PA, Sherri Patterson of IL, and Teresa Patterson of Montgomery; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; and both of his parents.

Margaret was a farm wife, and stayed at home when her kids were young. As they got older, she worked various jobs. She cleaned for service master, worked at Colony Court, volunteered for hospice, and helped with the ladies’ aid at Trinity Lutheran Church - Wilton. She was a member at Trinity Lutheran Church - Wilton and Red Hat Society. In Margaret’s spare time, she enjoyed old movies, music, bingo, crocheting, knitting, gambling, playing bridge at the Senior Center, fishing, camping, and spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Margaret is survived by her children, Ron Krassin of Waseca, Dawn (Mark) Zuehlke of Eagle Lake, Diane Tester of Waseca; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and brother, Jon (Janet) Wendland of Texas. She was preceded in death by husband, Kenneth Krassin; son, Kevin Krassin; parents, Helen and Roy Wendland; brothers, Robert, Donald, Ronald, Kennth and Dick Wendland; sisters, Evelyn Kahnke and Mary Wendland.

Born on September 10, 1933, in Canton, Illinois to Edward and Carrie (Neff) Walljasper. She attended Canton Senior High, graduating with the class of 1951. On June 14, 1952, Alice was united in marriage to James Bennie at St. Mary Catholic Church in Canton, Illinois. For a short time, Alice studied secretarial management and was proud of her career working for Caterpillar although it was cut short when Alice and James began having a family in their late 20’s. Alice and James lived in various communities throughout the Midwest due to James’ career. Although she never worked outside of the home after having children, Alice always integrated herself in each and every community they lived through volunteering. After James’ retirement in 1992, they moved to Waseca to be closer to family. She cherished the time she spent with them. During her time in Waseca she volunteered with Hospice, Friends of the Library, and the Waseca Arts Council. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca. Alice enjoyed playing bridge, watching the birds and deer, and reading, especially mysteries. Alice was a quiet and unassuming woman but will be remembered as a pillar who always looked out for others with her loving nature.
Alice is survived by her daughter, Sabrina (Leo) Nissen of Waseca; grandchildren: Katie (Babak) Oskoui, Jacqui Tucker (Andres Zuniga), Carolyn (Cody) Tebbitt, and Alex Bennie (Zoreli Rivera-Guzman); great grandson, Calvin Oskoui; daughter-in-law, Jessica (Ron DeRooi) Bennie of Bettendorf, IA; seven step-grandchildren; 16 step-great grandchildren; siblings: Keith Walljasper of Normal, IL, and Mary St. Clair of Canton, IL; sister-in-law, June Walljasper of Canton, IL; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
