Patricia Carolyn Artope - July 17, 1943 - January 20, 2022

Departed: 01/20/2022 (Liberty)
Obituary Preview: Patricia Carolyn Artope (Boggs) entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 20, 2022, she was 78 years of age.
Patricia Carolyn Artope (Boggs) was born in Liberty, South Carolina on July 17th, 1943 to Jean Boggs (Goldsmith) and Calvin Boggs.
Patsy as she was affectionately known by her family and friends was one of the kindest, loving, and compassionate people you will ever know. She was selfless and always cared about the well-being of others sometimes even before her own. So it is no surprise that Patsy dedicated her life to helping others as a Registered Nurse. She received her Nursing Degree at Long Island University and a Masters's Degree at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine.
Before moving to Peekskill, Patsy lived in the Bronx for many years and raised her two children Westley Barrington and Martha Wendy there. Besides leading a stellar nursing career that spanned more than 40 years and included teaching and training other nurses in various programs, Patsy found time to volunteer her time to many organizations. She was a dedicated and active member of The National Council of Negro Women, Girl Scouts and the YMCA & the NAACP.
In her retirement, she became a member of the Peekskill Senior Club. The Peekskill Senior Center offers social, recreational, instructional, and civic programs. She enjoyed being in the company of other active seniors like herself and enjoyed participating in all of the activities. Wherever she went she left an indelible mark on everyone around her.
Patsy never made a fuss about herself. She was quiet, incredibly classy, and reserved. A little-known fact is that she was an avid writer and historian. She was fascinated with genealogy and enjoyed helping people trace their family history.
Gone too soon but Heaven has gained another angel. Patsy entered Eternal Rest on January 20, 2022, at the age of 78. Patsy leaves a legacy of love and compassion and her memory will live on for eternity. She leaves to mourn a large loving family and a community of friends, colleagues and neighbors. Patsy is survived by her mother and best friend Jean Boggs Goldsmith, her ex-husband and friend William Artope, her beloved children Westley Artope and Wendy Artope, her greatest joy her grandchildren: Jonathan, Charlie, Jordan Artope, Chanse Artope and Maryana as well as great-grandchildren Naleiyah and Isabella. Patsy is also survived by her two nieces Calli Johnson and January Johnson, cousins: Renee Hill, Lydia Rose, Angela Outlaw, Carolyn Wesley, Christopher Boggs, Carolyn Swan, Judy Austin, Kirby Cheeks, and Aunt Lousie.
Patsy had an extended family in Esplanade Gardens where her mom resides many of who were like an Aunt to her. She was loved and embraced everywhere she went. Her presence and weekly visits will truly be missed by Bette White, Norma Campbell, Evonne Quallis, Inez Brooks and Maggie Jenkins as well as Mr. and Mrs Rhodes who she knew all of her life. She was adored by her mother’s god-daughter Karen Booker, close family member Pamela McClinton and leaves a void that can’t be filled.
Patsy is predeceased by her father Calvin Boggs, step-father Douglas Goldsmith, sister Antoinette Johnson, aunt Emily Cheeks, and daughter-in-law Clara Montague Esq.
Visitation will be held at Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home, 414 Washington Street, Peekskill NY 10566, on Thursday, January 27, 2022, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Home Going Chapel Service will be held at Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home, 414 Washington Street, Peekskill NY 10566, on Thursday, January 27, 2022, from 11:15 am to 12:00 pm.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and community members of the passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing essential information to those who need to know about the passing. They help to notify people of the funeral or memorial service arrangements, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences to the family.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the family of the deceased or a close friend writes the obituary. In some cases, a funeral home or mortuary may assist with writing the obituary or provide a template for the family to fill out.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include information about the funeral or memorial service, such as the date, time, location, and any special requests or instructions.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Generally, it's recommended to keep it concise and focused on the most important information. Aim for around 100-200 words.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many online obituary platforms and some newspapers allow you to include one or more photos of the deceased. This can be a nice way to personalize the obituary and make it more engaging.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies widely depending on the publication, location, and type of notice. Some online platforms offer free or low-cost options, while traditional newspapers may charge by the word or line.

Can I write my own obituary?

Absolutely! Many people choose to write their own obituary as a way to control how they're remembered and to ensure that their life story is told accurately. This can be a therapeutic exercise and a unique opportunity for self-reflection.

What's the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is typically a brief announcement of someone's passing, often without additional biographical information. An obituary, on the other hand, provides more details about the person's life and legacy.

Can I include humor or personal anecdotes in an obituary?

Absolutely! An obituary is a celebration of the person's life, so feel free to include stories, quotes, or humorous moments that capture their personality and spirit.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and guidelines. Be prepared to provide the necessary information and payment (if required).

Can I edit or update an obituary after it's been published?

This depends on the publication or platform. Some may allow edits or corrections within a certain timeframe, while others may not permit changes once it's gone live.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The publication timeline varies depending on the medium. Online platforms may publish immediately or within hours, while print newspapers may take several days or even weeks.

Can I request corrections or changes to an existing obituary?

If you notice errors or inaccuracies in an already-published obituary, contact the publication or platform directly to request corrections. They'll do their best to make changes promptly.

What if I want to keep my loved one's obituary private?

If you prefer not to share your loved one's passing publicly, you can opt for a private or limited-circulation obituary. This might be suitable for small families or those who prefer discretion.

Can I republish an obituary from another source?

In general, it's best to obtain permission from the original publisher before republishing an obituary. However, if you're sharing it on social media or among close family and friends, this might not be necessary.

Are there any specific guidelines for writing an obituary for a veteran?
