LeeAnn Ellison - September 10, 1939 - March 24, 2022

Departed: 03/24/2022 (Kansas City)
Obituary Preview: Life’s Reflection
Lee Ann Parks Ellison was born September 10, 1939, in Kansas City, Kansas.  She was the daughter of LeRoy and Willa Mae Parks; and had one brother, Maurice Parks; who all preceded her in death.
Lee Ann was married to Benoyd “Butch” Myers Ellison for 59 years at the time of his death on February 13, 2019.
She lived her entire life in Kansas City, Kansas, receiving her education in Kansas City, Kansas USD 500 schools graduating from Sumner High School where she was a cheerleader – and where she met Butch, the love of her life.  Lee Ann and Butch were married on July 9, 1960, and to this union two children were born, Guy Anthony and Stephanie Elise.
While raising their young family, Lee Ann completed her post-secondary education culminating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and embarked on a career of over 30 years as a Registered Nurse.  She worked in a variety of healthcare settings ultimately retiring as a school nurse at Coronado Middle School.  In retirement, she loved to travel to Pearland, Texas to visit Stephanie and her family.
Lee Ann and Butch’s house was a gathering place for family, friends, and the kids in the neighborhood.  Whether fourth of July, New Year’s Eve, a birthday or graduation, shooting basketballs in the driveway, or just impromptu parties around the pool, there was always something going on at the house.  Lee Ann always supported Guy and Stephanie in every endeavor – and there were a lot of them – baseball games, football games, dance recitals, choir and band concerts.  When Guy and Stephanie went off to college, they brought the house to them.  Lee Ann and Butch, sometimes with other family in tow, traveled to all of Guy’s football games, whether home or away – and they always came with food.  They would ask what the kids wanted to eat, prepare, and pack, it up, bring hotplates and setup a buffet in their hotel room. ALL of the kids (teammates and roommates) would go to the hotel and have a wonderful home cooked meal.   The football road trips continued when her grandson, Ryan, played high school then college football with Lee Ann and Butch making many trips south to watch him play. They hit the road again for special occasions like the birth of grandkids Erin and Ryan, high school and college graduations, holidays, and sometimes “just because”.  Family, by blood or love, was the center of her joy.
Growing up, Lee Ann’s family belonged to First A.M.E. Church. Through most of her adult life, and until her death, she was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church.

Ulysses Stanley Boyd - September 07, 1956 - February 18, 2022

Departed: 02/18/2022 (Kansas City)
Obituary Preview: Life Reflection
Ulysses Stanley Boyd III was born September 7, 1956, to Gertrude and Ulysses Boyd II.  He was the third born and the only son.  He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Laurinda Denice and Kozet Patric.  He departed this life and received his wings on February 18, 2022.
Stanley, as he was affectionately known, was baptized at First AME Church, Kansas City, Kansas, and accepted Christ at an early age.  He was active in Sunday school.  He rarely missed a Sunday so he could take an opportunity to bond with friends, learn more about Christ and challenge his Sunday school teachers.  Sunday school was a chance each week for him to catch up with his buddies.  He also participated in the Young People’s Department (YPD), Boy Scouts and choir as a youth.
Stanley loved all sports.  He attended Wyandotte High School and throughout his high school career, he played many sports.  You could find him on the baseball or football field or on the track.  In baseball, which was his first love, he played short stop.   He was also on the track team and his sport was the javelin.  Stanley was most known for his prowess on the football field, where he played the position of running back.  This was the sport where he received his Varsity letter.  Stanley would go on to graduate with the Wyandotte High School Class of 1974.  Though he had prospects to play professional baseball, he chose his football career and after graduation, he went on to play the game at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, KS.  When his football career was sidelined by a knee injury while at Kansas Wesleyan, he did not let that deter him.  He followed in his father’s footsteps and started assisting his father as a carpenter.  Stanley assisted his father in building the Gates and Sons BBQ restaurants as well as many other homes and buildings throughout the city and beyond.  He specialized in sheet rocking and was particularly talented at painting, even though he did not always like to paint.
Like his father he made connections in the community and loved checking on or calling people to see if he could do anything to assist them.  He helped with various projects from cutting grass to hauling away items.
Stanley loved to drive. He loved driving his parents and family on any road trip they went on make trips to Detroit, Memphis, Little Rock, and Los Angeles, to name a few.  He enjoyed driving the family to their destination and getting them home safely.  He was known to be seen through the city in either, his green van, which he called “The Green Machine”.  Later he would also frequently be seen driving the family’s red van.
As a young adult, his missionary calling would be that of driving the Church bus for First AME.  He took pride in picking up and dropping off the members of the church.  If you would see the church van on the move, on Sunday mornings and the days in between, it would be Stanley behind the wheel.  Some parishioners were even known to request Stanley to drive them.
Family was the most important thing to Stanley, and he always made time to be with his family. You would often see him with his nieces and nephews in tow.  He does not have one niece or nephew that can tell you they were not watched over by their Uncle Stanley.  He relished in supporting them at their school events and extracurricular activities.  If they called, he would drop everything to be there for them.  The same went for anyone who knew him.  If he, had it, he would share it.
Even as his health declined, Stanley would be on the move.  He stayed in contact with family and friends with visits and through phone calls. He always checked on people he connected with in his life.  Anyone who knew Stanley would most certainly get a check-in call or visit from him at some point.
Stanley leaves to mourn his baby sister, Kimberly L Boyd (Arprell) of Las Vegas, NV, niece, Miya Nicole (Nikki Pooh) Boyd of Overland Park, KS; niece, Mildred Kittrell Johnson (Ricky) of Wichita, KS:, nephew, Pidy Thomas Tiger (Crystal) of Overland Park, KS; nephew, Sean Christian Boyd of Los Angeles, CA; niece, Gertrude(Trudy) Alice Martin of Las Vegas, NV; great nephew, Ty Jackson Boyd of Overland Park, KS and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and family.
