Departed: 01/03/2023 (Kansas City)
Obituary Preview: Emil, “Chuck” Charles Abend, 93, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on January 3, 2023.
Chuck was born on August 24, 1929 to Emil and Louise Abend. He graduated from South East High School and soon after joined the United States Airforce. After his military service he began his 45+ year career as an instrument mechanic with TWA. It was at the airport restaurant where he met the love of his life, Betty Madison, and soon after they were married on April 26, 1956. From this marriage they were blessed with five children. Even outside of work, his natural talent for mechanics often had him tinkering and repairing anything that needed to be fixed. After retiring from TWA he operated his own home repair business as well as working for New Mark and Sharon Lane Nursing Homes. As someone who could never sit by idly, Chuck had many hobbies including playing the steel guitar in multiple country western bands throughout the Northland, tending to his garden of tomatoes and green beans, and flying (and sometimes crashing) his radio controlled model airplanes. As a first born American, he was incredibly proud of his German/Swiss roots and was an avid attendee to many of the Kansas City Swiss Society picnics, but what he cherished the most was the time spent with family. Chuck would often say “ Everyday is Thanksgiving at the Abend House” because he loved having family and friends over for a hearty meal, especially if it consisted of roast beef and mashed potatoes.
Chuck is preceded in death by his parents; son, Darrell; sister, Cecilia Reardon; and brother-in-law James Madison. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 66 years, Betty Abend; children, Linda (Jeff) Sigler, Darrin (Debra) Abend, David Abend, Doug (Katie) Abend; 10 grandchildren: Jana (Blake) Holmes and their children Eliana and Sienna, Kristin (Matthew) Cox and their children Henry, Heidi, Hudson, Harmonie, Hope, Hatcher and Hartlynn , Jennifer (Emma) Martino-Abend, Andrew (Kim) Sigler and their child “baby Sigler”, Hailee (Preston) Harrelson and their children Duke and Sage, Alex (Jennifer) Abend and their children Autumn and “Baby Abend”, Zachary Loewen and his daughter Charlee, Allyson Abend and her daughter Ember, Noelle Abend, Juliana Abend; sister, Helen Horan; brother-in-law, Donald; and many more extended family and friends.

Terrance Eugene Nelson - December 05, 1940 - December 12, 2022

Departed: 12/12/2022 (Kansas City)
Obituary Preview: Terrance Eugene Nelson, 82, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away December 12. He was born on December 5, 1940, to Eugene and Hazel Nelson in Racine, Wisconsin.
He married Linda Jean Nelson on October 22, 1960, a marriage that lasted 61 adventuresome years.
He was an employee with Farmland Industries after moving to the Kansas City area from Racine and ultimately took a position with TWA until his retirement in 2002. While gainfully employed he simultaneously raised his son and two daughters and travelled the world with his wife and family.
A die-hard Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, he was equally a supporter of University of Missouri and Kansas City sports teams. His pain and suffering associated with those allegiances is unimaginable. As a youth he was an accomplished basketball player, enhanced by his 6’4” frame, committed work-ethic and God-given talents on the hardwood. As an adult, he was an active tennis player and youth basketball coach. He boasted – and proved – a razor-sharp mind for most card games and had a knack for magic. He was an accomplished competitor by nature and upbringing.
His love of popular contemporary music composed a life’s soundtrack for a man who was also kind, gentle and curious, even while battling terminal health challenges.
He and Linda made a remarkable couple. He was a polished photographer, she was incredibly photogenic; he loved to eat, and she was a great cook; he had a far-reaching sense of humor, and she was relatively comfortable being the brunt of his good-natured ribbings.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his sister, Cynthia. Terry is survived by his other siblings, Dick (Marie) Nelson of Kansas City, MO and Todd (Barbara) Nelson of Racine, WI. He leaves behind his three loving children, Kelly (Bob) Martin and Stephanie (Kirk) Ward of Liberty, MO and Doug (Joanne) Nelson of Columbia, MO.  He was emotionally, financially, and intellectually intertwined with his nine grandchildren, whom he adored: Trey (Afton) Nelson, Alex (Kelsey) Martin, Paige Nelson, Kyle Martin, Sean Fender, Cole Nelson, Jack Martin, Josh Fender and Luke Ward, all who survive him.

Paul Ernest Dare Jr. - January 23, 1963 - December 06, 2022

Departed: 12/06/2022 (Kansas City)
Obituary Preview: The world got a little less fun on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, when Paul “Junior” Ernest Dare Jr., 59, of Kansas City, Missouri, left this world to be with his parents; Paul Sr. and Mattie Mae Dare, sister, Virginia Sorenson and his nephew Jimmy Paul Dare in heaven.
Paul would want us to say that he died while playing his guitar and performing an amazing stunt on his dirt bike… but it was not that sexy—he died quietly at home. Those that know and love Paul, know that his family was his world; especially his daughter Angel (Chad) Matthews who he called “BB”, and their children Elliana and Addilyn Matthews the Grand Baby “BB’s” he called his ticklets; and they called him Grandpa Paul.
He was the Rockstar Dad and Grandpa everyone wished they had; with his long hair, and ability to tell great stories; he loved eating out, getting ice cream, going to the movies on Tuesday nights, going to concerts and listening to live music, playing guitar and in general just being goofy with friends and family. He had fun no matter what- including playing with his remote-controlled airplanes, cars, boats, and his drone, if it wasn’t fun, he did not want to do it.  If it’s broke it didn’t matter because he was a genius when it came to fixing things; for years he had a computer and VCR repair business; and people would bring him all kinds of things to fix. When someone was getting rid of something he saw the potential in giving it a new home, a new purpose, and a new life, earning him the self-proclaimed title of “King Scrapper”.
Paul was never alone; he always had his best friend God with him. His faith in God allowed him to see the humor through the tears and the joy beyond the clouds. He created a path and legacy for his family that was as unique as he was; living life the way he wanted to. The ones who will miss him most are his daughter Angel and her Husband Chad; grandchildren Elliana and Addilyn his, brother James (Branda), Nieces Danielle and Autumn, his great-niece Adelynn and great-nephew Loki, and of course too many close friends and other extended family to list.
So, how do we honor and say goodbye to such an “Jawsome” guy—sadly the Beatles are not available to play so we will have everyone come to Terrace Park Funeral Home & Cemetery 801 NW 108th street, Kansas City, MO 64155 on Friday, December 16;  Where we will hang out and sharing memories from 1-2:30 PM; then the pastor will have a service at 2:30 before we lay him to rest in the cemetery with his Mom.
