Kathleen Margaret Erickson - August 10, 1940 - March 15, 2024

Departed: 03/15/2024 (Tacoma)
Obituary Preview: Kathleen (Kathy) Margaret Erickson
Beloved daughter, sister, wife, sister-in-law, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Kathy passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with COPD and complications at the age of 83, on March 15, 2024. Kathy was a bold and confident force of nature who made things happen, and through a life of service to her family and others, ensured events, holidays, and gatherings were well-planned, well-executed, and everyone was well-fed! She was a fierce competitor, and social butterfly who LOVED people.
Born in Spokane, Washington in 1940 to William & Katharine Tone, Kathy en-joyed roller-skating, doing cartwheels, and playing jacks as a young child. When the family moved to Eatonville, Washington, Kathy developed a lifelong, unparalleled connection with classmates as a Cruiser. Kathy was proud of her pie making and skills which she acquired while working with family friends at Gateway Inn on Mt. Rainier during her high school years. Though her family moved to Lakewood her senior year of high school and she graduated from Clover Park High School – Kathy is, was, and always will be, a Cruiser. Her deep love and fondness for fellow classmates endured her entire lifetime. Ranging from camp-outs and card parties, vacations to various locales, to taking care of each other through illnesses and injuries – Kathy’s lasting friendships are unequaled.
Kathy started college at WSU (Cougars), but left early to marry John (Johnny) Erickson, her high-school sweetheart, and start their family. Kathy & John hosted holidays and gatherings, picnics and parties, at their spacious home in Roy, which John built for their growing family.
Also unparalleled, was her fierce love for her family. Kathy was proud of her mother and father and wanted them to be proud of her as well. While a self-proclaimed “daddy’s girl,” Kathy also enjoyed an amazing friendship with her mother, including golfing at the annual Ladies’ Day tournament at Brookdale Golf Course in a 4-person team with her mother & daughters. Kathy devotedly cared for her mother throughout her later years, until she passed. Kathy was an amazing daughter! Kathy adored her brother Bob, and was extremely proud of him for his service, travels, and accomplishments as an architect in Arizona and Hawaii. She never passed-up a moment to share Bob’s latest project, even with total strangers.
Kathy’s fierce love for her children & grandchildren spurred her to live way past medical projections. She demonstrated her love through sacrificing her time and resources to ensure her children were in any and all pursuits in which they chose to participate. From coaching Bethel Rec. softball for many years, to PTA, to volunteering at the annual Roy Rodeo, to school carnivals, to gymnastics, track, softball, basketball, skiing, guitar, golf, and even a few rock concerts -- Kathy was always there. She attended EVERY sporting event for her children and grandchildren that she could.
After her children left the nest, Kathy provided care for her 1st grandson, and later started working in the office for a dear friend’s family company for over a decade. Then, Kathy & John ran their own company working on various projects from the theater renovation in Eatonville to exterior buildings at Quinault, to name a few.
Later in life, after 40 years of marriage, cancer stole John from Kathy. Kathy cared for the family home and tended to the property for many years after John’s passing. She never wanted to leave the home John built, but she just couldn’t take care of it anymore. Thus, Kathy moved to University Place in the Cottages at Peach Creek and developed deep and loving friendships. Leaving her door unlocked so friends could come-and-go. Kathy always cooked for friends, attended rec. center events and played games; and made sure if anyone was ill or under-the-weather they always had food. And her good friends made sure she had food and took her to many medical appointments as well.
Kathy was an avid reader, card and game player, and even took up painting in her later years. In her younger years, she and Johnny enjoyed tennis and family vacations to the beach. She loved to travel, and enjoyed every adventure she could. She delighted in socializing and was always the encyclopedia on social current events. She was a fierce competitor and the rock of the family. She gave her all to life! Kathy’s life philosophy was that if everyone just lived by “The Golden Rule” and followed the 10 Commandments, we would have a happier and healthier world. Kathy has all our love and we will all embrace again when we are heavenly reunited.
Kathy was preceded in death by her angelic daughter, Lisa, and beloved hus-band Johnny, loving mother Katharine and father William (Bill), infant brother William (Billy) John, and amazing sister-in-law Gena.
She is survived by her loving family members: her brother, Robert (Bob) and wife Dawn; daughter Diane and husband Tom; daughter Gretchen and husband Nate; daughter Kirsten and husband Chris; sister-in-law Lenore; sister-in-law Chris and husband Rick; sister-in-law Linda and husband Jerry; 4 grandsons David, Ryan, Mark, and Kurt (wife Catherine); 3 great-grandchildren Cooper, Lux, and Jake; nieces Gretchen, Amy, Katie, and Ellie; and nephews Garrett and Justin.
At her request, the family will honor Kathy’s wishes, and there will be no funeral. Private family Memorial at Tacoma Mausoleum and Mortuary on April 5th.

Jeanne Tisson Hagen - September 09, 1921 - October 14, 2023

Departed: 10/14/2023 (Tacoma)
Obituary Preview: Jeanne Tisson Hagen, age 102, died in Tacoma, Washington on Oct. 14, 2023 surrounded in person and spirit by her loved ones.
Jeanne was born September 09, 1921, the fourth child of Francois Tisson and Marie Therese LeFevre in the Commune of Auderghem, Belgium. She was one of eight children. Her father was a mason. Her mother took in laundry. They were the working poor, as were most neighbors. Jeanne had good memories of playing in the forests and small lakes surrounding Brussels with her siblings as a child. In 1938 fortune shone on the 16 year old girl. Monsieur Albert Dasnoy hired her to be au pair to his three young children. He was already a renowned painter, writer, and philosopher. She modeled for many of his paintings. A new life of culture opened up to her. The Dasnoy paintings and sketches of Jeanne as a young woman were publicly shown in Brussels and Paris at his exhibitions and are hanging in the museums and homes in Belgium to this day. The Dasnoy family became dear lifelong friends of Jeanne’s. Her relationship with this noble family blessed her for life. One of the children, Edith Lechat, was like a sister to her. Their close friendship lasted for over 80 years. They shared the joys and sorrows of life with letters and by phone, speaking in French across the ocean every Sunday up to the last week of Jeanne’s life.
In 1940 the Nazis occupied Belgium. Many miseries came with the war. There was a scarcity of food, no heat in the cold winters, curfew, and blackout curtains. Jeanne would say that the scariest sound of the war for her was the sound of V2 rockets flying overhead in route to London. There was always the risk of the rocket falling on Belgium. One of her brothers was taken by the Nazis to Germany to work in a factory. When the Germans were forced out by the Allies in mid 1944, she went out on the town with her sister Lulu to celebrate. That night she met the love of her life, Bill Hagen. He was a handsome young 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, 79th Infantry Division. He spoke some high school French. She had a smattering of English. In her memoirs she says,” Bill was such a gentleman, so polite with such a sweet smile. He walked me home in the cold, as I had missed my streetcar…it was peaceful. No more sirens, no more flying bombs.” They fell in love and were married within a month.
March of 1946 saw Jeanne stepping ashore in Biloxi, Mississippi, one of 40 war brides. She and Bill made their home in the San Francisco Bay Area and lived there for most of their life. They had five children: Peter, Diane, Robert, Danielle, and Paul, ten grandchildren: Mary, Andrew, Emily, Laura, Jarrod, Melinda, Elizabeth, Stacy, Bryan, and Alan: fifteen great grandchildren, Shane, Riley, Drew, Ashley, Connor, Matthew, Gracie, Olivia, Summer, Evan, Mason, Hannah, Sarah, Bailey and David. They were married 66 years. Bill stayed in the Army Reserve after the war, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel, and managing the family clothing business. Jeanne’s focus was her family, developing close loving relationships with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. She had a loving heart. Her favorite times were big family get togethers enjoying good food and conversation. She loved to celebrate life having many birthday, anniversary and holiday parties. She enjoyed French music. Edith Piaf’s “Je ne regrette rien” was her favorite song. Yves Montand could often be heard in her home. She loved to travel including returning to Belgium many times to visit friends and family. She read widely in French and English, had an abiding interest in politics, philosophy, literature and art and was not afraid to speak her mind. She was discerning in making friends, but was very accepting and tolerant too. She took a long view. One of her favorite sayings was, “this too shall pass.” Preceding Jeanne in death were her beloved husband and her eldest daughter Diane Guldbech. She is survived by her children, Peter (Adrienne), Robert (Terry), Danielle, and Paul ( Margot) and her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral Mass for Jeanne will be Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 11am at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Santa Cruz,
