Raymond H. Laurinaitis - December 06, 1927 - June 27, 2020

Departed: 06/27/2020 (Philadelphia)
Obituary Preview: Laurinaitis, Raymond H. , age 92, passed peacefully on June 27, 2020. Survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Joan (Aicher); sons Gary (Margaret), David (Michele), and Raymond G. (Deborah); seven grandchildren Brian, Patrick, Kevin, Ashley, Michael (deceased), Matthew, and Brendan; great grandchild, Connor.
He was born in Port Richmond to Henry and Mary Laurinaitis, the youngest of four and only boy born to immigrants from Lithuania.  Henry was the owner of a successful bakery on Salmon Street but unfortunately passed when Ray was a young man.  This instilled a life-long value in Ray to always support his mother and family.
Ray was a distinguished Navy veteran.  Serving in the Pacific.  After his service in the Navy, he played football for several years with the Venango Bears semi-pro football team.
Ray met the love of his life, Joan, in 1951, and they were married in September 1955.  They purchased their first house in Tacony in 1957 raising three sons there before moving to the Northeast in 1997.
His work career included Reading Railroad and ten plus years with ITT Nesbitt in NE Philadelphia. Instead of relocating when Nesbitt moved its operations, he went on to work for over twenty-five years with the City of Philadelphia, many of those with the Water Department.
His true passion was coaching sports and he spent many years coaching his sons and neighborhood boys in baseball, football and basketball at Moss A.A.
All his interests and work habits supported his greatest asset, the love, support, and dedication to his family.  He was actively involved in every aspect of his son’s lives that continued as a caring and loving grandfather to seven. However, this was unmatched by his commitment and love of his wife.   Everything in Ray’s life revolved around Joan.  Their love for each other was something to be admired.  As he wanted, she was with him and by his side from 1955 until his final breath.
He was a great man who lived a good life to the age of 92.

Departed: 06/13/2020 (Philadelphia)
Obituary Preview: Saving his last dance for his devoted late wife, Bernice, Jack Junod, left this world with his dear children by his side, singing him his favorite songs and remembering all of his life’s stories. Together with his wife Bernice they had seven children: Jack Junod (“Marie”), Susan McDermott (Pat), Bernice Losinno (David), Nancy Szyszko (Paul), Patrick Junod (Kathy), Robin Cymbalski (Pete) and the late Robbie. Each one loved their dad with no measure.  He took  joy in seeing the growth of his family with 19 grandchildren: Brittany, John, Erin, Bridget, Katie, Elizabeth, Matthew Robert, Apryl, Blasé, Carly, Dakota, Eryal, Colin, Kevin, Lindsay, Pioty, Christian, Julian and  6 great grandchildren: Matilda, Parker, Scarlett, Hazel, Lily and Fiona. He was the oldest child of John and Alice Junod and big brother to: Jerry, Alice, Ethel, Cass, Ellen, Maryann and the late Jim and Joe. Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Brother-in-law to Helen Talerico and the late Ralph. Dear friend to Rachael DiMarco. Jack loved the lasting friendships that he forged throughout his life especially his dear Wildwood friends. He was a  long-time member of Torresdale Frankford Country Club. He was a 50-year participant with the Men of Malvern, a founding member of the Jim Junod Lodge,  and had lifelong devotion to his alma mater North Catholic High School. Jack loved golf and a good game of pinochle. He loved learning about people and continued that curiosity until his death. He was the consummate “sales guy” known to man - if there was a good angle  or loophole he would find it! Jack travelled the world, loved his country, but in the end it was his home, faith and family that gave him the most happiness. Jack was a “one of a kind” and will be remembered always by those who loved him. The world lost a good one, but God gained a gem. Keep on dancing, Jack.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It may also include information about their family, accomplishments, and funeral or memorial service arrangements.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to inform friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a lasting tribute to the deceased, preserving their memory and legacy for generations to come.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the family of the deceased or a close friend writes the obituary. In some cases, a funeral home or mortuary may assist with writing the obituary or provide guidance on what information to include.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service, hobbies, and surviving family members. It may also include information about their personality, achievements, and charitable donations in lieu of flowers.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication and the family's preferences. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from a few sentences to a short paragraph.

Can I include photos or other multimedia in an obituary?

Yes, many online obituary platforms and newspapers allow you to upload photos, videos, or audio clips to accompany the written obituary. This can help personalize the tribute and make it more engaging for readers.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper or online platform?

Check with the specific newspaper or online platform for their submission guidelines and deadlines. Some may require you to submit through their website or email, while others may need a physical copy or phone call.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies widely depending on the publication, word count, and any additional features like photos or online guestbooks. Expect to pay anywhere from $50 to several hundred dollars.

Can I write my own obituary in advance?

Yes, it's becoming increasingly common for people to write their own obituaries in advance as part of their estate planning or as a way to reflect on their life and legacy.

What's the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, usually including only basic information like name, age, and date of death. An obituary is a longer, more detailed tribute that provides a fuller picture of the person's life.

Can I include humor or personal anecdotes in an obituary?

Absolutely! Obituaries don't have to be somber and serious. Including humorous stories or personal touches can help capture the person's personality and spirit.

How do I handle sensitive or private information in an obituary?

If there's sensitive or private information you'd rather not share publicly, it's best to omit it from the obituary or phrase it discreetly. Remember that the goal is to honor the person's memory without causing unnecessary distress to loved ones.

Can I include charitable donations or memorial contributions in an obituary?

Yes! Many families choose to suggest charitable donations in lieu of flowers as a way to continue the person's legacy and support a cause they cared about.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The publication timeline varies depending on the newspaper or online platform. Some may publish same-day or next-day, while others may take several days or even weeks.

Can I edit or update an obituary after it's been published?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Check with the publication or online platform for their policies on making changes after publication.

What if I want to keep the obituary private or limited to certain individuals?

Can I reuse an obituary for multiple publications or platforms?

Yes! You can reuse the same obituary across multiple publications or platforms, but be sure to check each one's submission guidelines and formatting requirements.

What if I'm unsure about what information to include in an obituary?

Drafting an obituary can be overwhelming. Consider enlisting the help of a trusted friend or family member, or seeking guidance from a funeral home or professional writer.

Can I include quotes, poems, or other literary elements in an obituary?

Absolutely! Incorporating meaningful quotes, poems, or lyrics can add depth and personality to the obituary.

How do I ensure accuracy when writing an obituary?

What if I need help writing an obituary due to language barriers or literacy issues?

Contact local community organizations or places of worship for assistance. Some funeral homes also offer translation services or writing guidance.

Can I use social media to share an obituary?

Absolutely! Social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter can be effective ways to share news of a loved one's passing and connect with others who want to pay their respects.

How do I preserve an online obituary over time?

Many online platforms archive obituaries indefinitely. You can also save a copy of the text and photos locally on your computer or print out a hard copy for safekeeping.

Can I create an online memorial separate from an official obituary?

Yes! Online memorials can serve as a dedicated space for sharing memories, photos, and condolences beyond what's included in the formal obituary.
