Acquillia Middleton Thomas - March 30, 1933 - February 09, 2024

Departed: 02/09/2024 (San Antonio)
Obituary Preview: Acquillia Middleton Thomas, affectionately known as “Mom, Mama, Quillia, Aunt Lit (stands for “little”), Aunt Quillia, Grandma,” and “GG,” was born on March 30, 1933, to Cerion E. and Eliza F. Middleton in Caldwell (Burleson), Texas and was the youngest of nine siblings: Juanita D. Middleton Homer (Calvin J. Homer), Maryland Middleton-Wilson (Ples Wilson), Rayshaw Middleton (Faye Middleton), Cerion Earl Middleton – known as “Uncle JC,” Mary Middleton-Garry (Ricky Garry), Calvin Middleton – known as “Bo,” and her paternal twin, Priscillia Middleton. She went to be with the Lord Jesus, peacefully in her home, on Friday, February 9,
2024, in San Antonio, Texas, at the blessed age of 91 years. Acquillia grew up in Caldwell (Burleson), Texas in her early childhood years with her parents and siblings, but later moved to San Antonio, Texas. She was known to live a life of hard work and dedication in everything she was determined to accomplish, starting in her young teenage years working at a café alongside her twin, Priscillia, while attending Phillis Wheatley High School, graduating in 1952. After graduating from high school, she went on to complete General Education and Nursing classes at St. Phillips College and continued her career in Nursing at UT Health San Antonio and Southeast Baptist Hospital, while also dedicating her time and energy for years in Domesticated Housekeeping for two loving families. It is notable to mention, that with tender affection and a respectable resolve to “honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land” (Exodus 20:12), Acquillia made sure to tirelessly care for, love deeply, and wholeheartedly assist her ailing parents in her own home in their elderly years, even in the midst of her own active home and work life, and she did it exceptionally well! While she continued her love of learning and career advancement, Acquillia married Junior Rogers and went on to have three children: Gay Nell Jackson, Debra (Willie) Miles, and Reginald (Lynn) Rogers. She was later blessed to love and marry G.W. Thomas – her husband of over 50 years, adding seven bonus children to their union: Alfred Eugene Thomas, John (Rose) Thomas, Glynn W. Thomas, Clifton N. Thomas, Linda Smith,
Sandra K. Hardin, and Natalie Knox. The meaning of Acquillia is “eagle, fierce, and majestic in equal measure,” and her family and friends would agree that the description of her name embodied the true nature of who she was: a noble and influential matriarch to the lives of her entire family and all who knew her, strong and passionate yet exhibiting the most beautiful and kind-hearted nature, and holding the #1 spot for showing unconditional love and grace to all who walked through the doors of her home. She was faithfully committed to the Lord Jesus and loved to attend, give generously to, and serve at her home church, Dellcrest Church of Christ, until she could no longer physically attend. Acquillia’s green thumb was evident through her love of maintaining her lawn and gardening, especially with roses and various flowers, and keeping attractive plants throughout her home. When you walked through her front door it was filled with delicious home-cooked meals alongside a great-tasting coconut and lemon cake or a delicious banana pudding, a huge Thanksgiving dinner on the holiday, crazy laughter and fun stories, and just the place to be for her large immediate family or distant relatives coming to visit “Aunt Quillia,” long-time friends who adored her, and the pitter-patter of feet by her beloved grandchildren and great-
grandchildren. Acquillia was preceded in death by her devoted husband, G.W. Thomas; parents - Cerion and Eliza; her eight siblings - Juanita, Maryland, Rayshaw, Cerion Earl, Mary, Calvin, and her paternal twin, Priscillia; and four
cherished bonus children – Glynn W. Thomas, Sandra K. Hardin, Alfred Eugene Thomas, and Clifton N.
Thomas. She reunites with them in eternal peace and in their heavenly home. Left to honor and remember her legacy are her children – Gaynell Jackson, Deborah (Willie) Miles, and Reginald (Lynn) Rogers, as well as John (Rose) Thomas, Natalie Knox, and Linda Smith. Acquillia is lovingly remembered by a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and an extended family of
friends who were blessed to know and love her. Her unconditional love, kindness, and open arms will be deeply missed by all.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing important information about their passing, such as the date and time of the funeral or memorial service. They also provide a sense of closure for those who are grieving and allow them to pay their respects to the deceased.

Who writes an obituary?
