Jeanne led a life brimming with adventure, love, and laughter. She met her beloved husband George, at Northwestern University, and their journey led them to Brussels, Belgium. Embracing European life, Jeanne forged enduring relationships that lasted a lifetime. While in Belgium, she immersed herself in various committees until she joyfully welcomed three daughters into her life, dedicating herself to raising her family. After fourteen years in Belgium, Jeanne and her family found a wonderful home in Lake Forest, Illinois. For over two decades, she relished in activities such as tennis, swimming, volunteering at her daughters’ schools and Girl Scout troops, and hosting gatherings for neighbors and friends. James Earl Levy, Sr. - February 16, 1948 - February 27, 2024

Departed: 02/27/2024 (El Mirage)
Obituary Preview: James Earl Levy Photo February 16, 1948 - February 27, 2024
James Earl Levy, age 76, after an arduous and courageous battle with brain cancer, was called home by his Lord and Savior early Tuesday morning February 27, 2024, at his home residence surrounded by his family.
Jim was born February 16, 1946, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the son of Clarence and Edith (Massaro) Levy. He spent most of his childhood in Colorado Springs until his family relocated to Cumberland Wisconsin. James served in the Army National Guard of Wisconsin from 1966 to 1972, with the rank of Staff Sergeant, during which he was awarded the distinguished “Expert Badge” for his marksmanship with an M-14 Rifle. He was very proud of his service to his country and much of his character was that of being a faithful soldier.
Upon his Honorable discharge, he resided in Wisconsin where he would work on the family farm, later becoming the sole proprietor, get married and start his own family.
In 1985 Jim moved his family to Arizona where he worked for the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office as a Detention Officer, with the rank of Sergeant for 22 years. Due to his impeccable work ethic, humble nature and his benevolence toward all those he encountered, Jim quickly garnered respect from his superiors and fellow officers. A respect which even extended among those incarcerated for whom he was responsible.
Jim was passionately devoted to his family and known for his immensely protective nature over them. He was primary caregiver to his disabled wife for the last several years, not just accommodating her every need but doting on his true love tirelessly. He was a deeply beloved husband, father and grandfather. There was so much more to him than just dad, though to us, that was his greatest role --he was also a loyal friend, a coworker, and colleague, a cousin, brother and even an all-around handyman. Jim was a rock to many and his generosity in helping family and friends knew no bounds. He was a master at sarcastic humor and witty timing to others, always able to put a smile on your face. Jim loved the outdoors, he enjoyed off-roading on his ATV with friends and fishing but most of all he loved spending time with his family. He was a true patriot and had a special interest in American History. He was a hard worker and took pride in doing a good job with everything he did. He was a man of faith, compassion, and tenderhearted who will be dearly missed by his loving family, his many friends and former co-workers.
Jim was predeceased by his parents Clarence and Edith (Massaro) Levy; his two sisters Debbie (Tom) Nevin and Darlene Canavera. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Alana (Livengood) Levy of Surprise; his children, Jay (Cori) Levy Jr. of Surprise; Sharmell (Jerry) Skipper of Circle City; Angela (Adrian) Gonzalez of Surprise; former daughter-in-law Sonja Waldrop of Peoria; former sons-in-law Robert (Cortnee) Sitka and Mike Evans; his 14 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews; as well as his four legged companions whom he took great delight in teaching tricks, Dixie and Charlie. OK… Charlie not so much… he wasn't much interested in learning those “silly little tricks”.
Jim’s family and friends may call at 10:00 AM -11:00 AM on Wednesday 3/6/2024 in the Chapel at Sunwest Funeral Home, 12525 NW Grand Ave, El Mirage, AZ. A prayer service will be conducted at 11:00 AM after visitation. Interment will take place immediately following at Sunwest Funeral Home Cemetery at the same location.
The family requests those who wish to express sympathy, to consider making contributions in James Levy‘s name to his favorite charity Wounded Warrior Project, in remembrance of his life. https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org
