Obituary Preview: Clarence E. Madewell, 72, of Marshall passed away June 27, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was born December 14, 1949 in Longview to Albert Lee Madewell and Velda Loraine Mahan Madewell. Clarence graduated from Marshall High School in 1968. He loved working on and driving classic cars, Mustangs and the 1955 Chevy were his favorites. He married Joy Spruiell March 2, 1979 in Marshall. Mr. Madewell had worked for R.W Snyder, Alcoa and the City of Marshall where he retired in 2012. He is survived by his wife, Joy of Marshall; daughter: Lisa Ivy of Rusk, TX; sons: Michael Madewell of Marshall, Eddie Davis and his wife Traci of Marshall; and Timothy Madewell and his wife Ashley Nicole of Marshall; eleven grandchildren; one great granddaughter as well as a number of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister: Barbara Collins and two brothers: Paul L Madewell and Albert Wayne Madewell. A time of visitation will be held on Friday, July 1, 2022 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sullivan Funeral Home, 100 East Travis, Marshall, TX.

Jerry Ray Waldon was born February 2, 1942 to Mr. RV Waldon and Mrs. Exa Martin Waldon in Marshall, TX. He passed from this life June 26, 2022 in Marshall, TX. Jerry lived a very full life in his 80 years. He faced physical difficulties but never let any hardships hold him back. He worked to put himself through college while also providing and caring for his parents. After college, he went to work for Swepco, where he had a 40-year career, rising from a substation operator to retire as a senior systems operator. He loved spending his free time with his family, from coaching his sons in sports to hunting and fishing anytime and anywhere he could. He also enjoyed traveling and going on adventures with the love of his life, Mary. After retiring, he added playing golf with his golf buddies to his list of hobbies. Jerry was a member of First Baptist Church Waskom. Jerry Waldon was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Waldon, his parents; and his sister, JoAnn Langley. Left to cherish his memory are his sons David Waldon and wife Melanie; and their children, Nathan and Marley; and Kyle Waldon and wife Misty; and their children Jacob and Kaylee; and Eric Carter and Cameron Lester, who Jerry loved so very much. He passed from this life on June 24, 2022 surrounded by his loving family in Longview, TX. Mr. Branch was a kind man who was always quick to help those in need. He loved working on cars especially the classics. Pete was never at a loss for words and enjoyed talking about any and everything. He never met a stranger and loved telling jokes and making people laugh. Mr. Branch proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He was an avid and accomplished bowler. Pete would go on to own and operate both Dillon Lanes and Branch’s Paint and Body Shop in Marshall, TX. Most weekends you could find him tending to delicious steaks on his grill. Above all else, Joseph “Pete” Branch loved his family; he was a devoted and loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Mr. Joseph “Pete” Branch was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Shirley Fields, Kenneth Branch, Mary Jo Richardson, and Anita Branch. Obituary Preview: Maizie Hester, 89, formerly of Longview and Marshall, Texas, passed away, June 3rd, 2022. She was born in Dierks, Arkansas, where she lived until graduation and married, E.H. “Buddy” Hester. Following the birth of her first child, they moved to Marshall and began life in the community. She worked for The Marshall News Messenger, First National Bank, but finally found her true calling, at the Jones Law Firm where she served as a legal assistant for over 40 years. The Church of Christ was her home, and second family. She taught children, hosted small groups, but the project most close to her heart was the Caring and Sharing ministry she was a part of in the last years of her life. She spent many hours helping people that were unable to feed or clothe their families get back on their feet. Maizie loved family, being one of five siblings, she was a wife, mother, grand and great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and beloved friend to countless. She is survived by daughters: Sharon Johnson, Susan McCrary and her husband, Hardee, and Holly Richardson, and her husband, Jeff; grandchildren: Justin Lee and wife Ashlee, Lucas Lee and wife Lauren, Heather Hartwick and husband Frank, Lauren Flett and her husband James, and Cade and Cody McCrary; great-grandchildren: Rylee Hartwick, Anthony Moss, Brenna Flett, Luke Lee Bennett Lee, and Webb Lee; sisters: Ann Johnson and Bobbie Horton, and numerous nephews, nieces and friends. The family will receive family and friends for visitation at 6pm on Sunday, June 12th in the parlor of Sullivan’s Funeral Home located at 100 E Travis St, Marshall, TX 75670 Funeral services will be held at 11am, Monday, June 13th in the chapel at Sullivan Funeral Home, with D.W. Glenda Rozell Dorsey - January 17, 1941 - April 02, 2022

Obituary Preview: Graveside services for Glenda Dorsey, age 81 years, of Hallsville, Texas will be at Noonday Cemetery north of Hallsville on April 9th at 2:00 pm officiated by Dan Manual of Crockett Road Church of Christ in Palestine and Joe Hancock of Hallsville Church of Christ. A visitation will be held at Sullivan Funeral Home in Marshall, Texas on April 8th from 5-7pm. Glenda Rozell Cummings was born on January 17, 1941 in Athens, Texas and she died on April 2nd, 2022 in Longview, Texas. She was born to Carroll Cummings and Mildred Kinchen Cummings. At the age of 4 years, her mother passed away and several years later her father remarried to Margaret Miller Cummings. Glenda’s only sibling, Edith, was born in 1951. The family lived near Athens and Glenda attended the Athens school system graduating in 1959. After graduation, Glenda moved to the Dallas area working in various jobs until she met her eventual husband, Gary Dorsey. They dated and were married in 1962 while Gary was stationed in the Air Force in Fort Worth. Their first child, Sherlyn, was born there in 1963. After 4 years of service, they moved back to Gary’s hometown of Hallsville, Texas and eventually into a home built by her father-in-law on Laurel Lane. A second daughter, Shonda, was born to them at the end of 1970. Glenda and Gary lived in the Hallsville area for about 57 years. She attended the Hallsville Church of Christ and later Alpine Church of Christ. Glenda received a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer in March of 2021 and became bedridden. She would watch church services on Youtube from the Crockett Road Church of Christ in Palestine, Texas led by Pastor Dan Manual. In the summer of 2021, Glenda decide she wanted to be baptized and this was overseen by Dan Manual in a heated swimming pool in Longview. She was transferred to the poolside by a wheelchair and lowered into the water by several people. Glenda Dorsey is preceded in death by her father and mother and stepmother. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Gary Dorsey; her 2 daughters: Sherlyn of Silsbee, Texas and Shonda of Longview, Texas, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; her sister, Edith of Tyler, Texas and numerous beloved relatives and dear friends.

Sally Ann Wood was born in Plainville, CT on August 17, 1932. She was the second of five children born to her parents, Howard Arthur Cheetham and Ethel Dorothy Johnson. Sally met Manuel E. “Joe” Turner in Tucson, AZ and married in Nogales, AZ on Sept. 3, 1949. Together they had three children, Manuel E. “Gene” Turner, Jr., Dorothy E. “Dottie” Turner, and Terrance “Terry” A. Turner. They moved across our great nation as the years progressed making homes in many small towns. Joe took her from the big city of Los Angeles to the Kiamichi Mountains of Oklahoma to the suburbs Philadelphia, and finally settling in Marshall, TX. She loved making a home and learning the area where they currently lived. Joe passed away in 1985. Several years later in September of1999, she married Wilburn “Woody” Wood in Porterville, CA. This blended the two families who had loved each other for many, many years. Woody passed away in 2009. Sally was first and foremost a Mom. She raised her three children as they moved across the country following Joe’s career. When her children were old enough, Sally began her medical assistant career at Marshall Memori al Hospital as a ward clerk. She later worked for Dr. Marvin K. Hall, and finally for Marshall Internal Medicine – Dr. Gullion, Dr. Jones, and Dr. Harris. She retired from MIMA to take care of her mother in her declining years. Always the caretaker, Sally watched over her friends and family and took care of them as needed. She attended Cypress Valley Bible Church until she was no longer independent. Alzheimer's disease robbed Sally of many productive years. She had several wonderful caretakers who made her life a happy one. Special to her were Abby Fisher, Jeanette Henderson, Mary Moore, Makyra Motley, January Simpson, Mary Jackson, and Bobbi Goss. Highland Park Home Health staff was instrumental in her continued care, especially Nurse Kayla Cantu. In the last weeks, PrimeCare Hospice and Nurse Maryanne Cantu were our mainstay. Sally is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Pollyanna Mahoney; brothers Bill Cheetham and David Cheetham; her husband Manuel E. “Joe” Turner, Sr., and husband Wilburn “Woody” Wood, and step-son Danny Wood. She is survived by her son M. E. “Gene” Turner, Jr., M.D. his wife Anita, daughter Angella Delatorre and her husband John, and their children Elise and Monivette. Dorothy E. “Dottie” Turner and children Michelle Storie and husband Ted, and Kelli Arnold. Grandchildren Krystalynn Escamilla and husband Kegan, Tyler Mayfield, Jayden Brown, Jackson Eli Lynch, and Asher Storie. Great-grandchildren Dexter Escamilla, Jude McKinney, and Lilith Escamilla. Terrance A. “Terry” Turner and wife Phyllis and children Briana Turner and Matthew Turner and wife Megan. Grandchildren Samuel Turner and soon to be born Noah Turner. She is also survived by her brother Thomas Cheetham and wife Josie. Her step-son Steven Wood and wife Joanne.

A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary starting at 7:00 p.m. at Sullivan Funeral Home in Marshall, TX.  Norris James Johnson was born February 24, 1940 in Pollock, TX to Mr. Elbert Lee Johnson and Mrs. Jonnie Bernice Loving Johnson. He passed from this life March 18, 2022 at his home in Waskom, TX.
Norris was a lifetime truck driver, logging over three million safe miles with Roadway Express. He was a member of Teamsters Union Local 568 for 33 years serving as job steward and local officer. Mr. Johnson proudly served his country in the United States Army. He coached Waskom Little and Pony League Baseball for many years. Mr. Johnson was active in Waskom FFA Ag boosters. He loved his church and having people pass his pew and pat him on the shoulder or shake his hand. He was an active 3rd and 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. Norris also served as an Acolyte for Masses until he became ill. Later in life, Mr. Johnson enjoyed gardening, sitting on the back porch with his Miller Lite and Snuff, and watching the trucks pass by on I-20. Above all else, Norris loved his family so very much and always told his children that he envisioned them on the hood of his 18-wheeler every time that he made a trip.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Stephanie Bell Vailes, his parents; and his brothers, Robert Lee Johnson, and Raymond Lee Johnson. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 62 years, Ruby Johnson; his eight children and their spouses, Mary Futch Lutz and husband Brent, Michael Johnson and wife Lisa, John Johnson and wife Shannon, Cindy Bell and husband Steve, Kim Cason and husband Glen, Rhonda Sepulvado, Stephen Johnson and wife Amanda, and Jerry Johnson and wife Felicia, 21 grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren; his sisters, Joyce Davis, and Lula Day and husband Raymond; his brother Paul Johnson, and numerous nieces, nephews, beloved relatives, and dear friends. Norris James Johnson is dearly loved and will be deeply missed.

Norma Payne grew up in Marshall, she attended and graduated from Marshall High School. After school, she went to work for East Texas Baptist College where she met her first love, Mr. Morgan Payne, the two were married December 12, 1953 and shared 30 wonderful years together until his passing in 1983. Norma went on to work for and retire from Harrison County Tax Office. Mrs. Payne loved her church and was very active at Central Baptist Church in Marshall. She loved seeing that her children and grandchildren were raised in church to love the Lord. In her spare time she enjoyed reading her Bible and Danielle Steel. Above all else, Mrs. Norma loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Norma Payne was preceded in death by her loving husband Morgan Payne, her daughters Sandra Payne and Lisa Payne; her granddaughter Crystal Hilton; her grandson, David Britt; Louis Fritz; and her brother, Rev.
