Obituary Preview: Bernice V. Lewandowski passed away peacefully with her family at her bedside late Thursday (March 24th) night. She was 91. Hers was a life devoted to family: a loving mother, a wonderful Busia, and a devoted “Aunt Bert” to her many nieces and nephews.
Bernice was one of nine children born to Stanly and Frances (Portala) Napierala. She grew up “out the farms” during the Great Depression and World War II. She attended Burnham School.

Bernice was a great organizer: whether managing a household, running the cake booth at the Regina Coeli Church festival, or the chicken dinner at the St. Clement parish festival.
She loved to bake. She was known for her Polish coffee cakes and her chocolate chip chiffon cake. The chiffon cake was a staple at every family gathering. Her children imagine her baking her cake in heaven after learning the news of her own upcoming funeral.

Sharon Barbara Grycza - August 05, 1935 - February 04, 2022

Departed: 02/04/2022 (Toledo)
Obituary Preview: Heaven has gained another angel, and our family has lost a wonderful Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. Sharon Grycza passed away Friday, February 4, after a battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. We'll love and miss her forever!
Sharon was born in Toledo on August 5, 1935, the only child of Theodore “Ted” and Martha (Poddany) Wojnarowski. A graduate of St. Theresa’s Elementary School and Whitney High School, Sharon also attended St. Ursula Academy. During high school Sharon worked as a “soda jerk” at a North Toledo sweet shop, where she met her husband Louis, who predicted that he would marry her. When Lou returned from a stint in the Army, Sharon married the love of her life at St. Adalbert’s Church on October 1, 1955, and they moved into their first house on Otto Street, shortly afterward settling on East Oakland Street. In 1967 Sharon and Lou moved to Grantwood Street in Blessed Sacrament Parish and raised their four children in West Toledo. Finally in 2001, the empty nesters moved to Temperance, Michigan. While raising the family, Sharon also worked in real estate, then as a customer service representative at J.C. Penney in the then-new Franklin Park Mall. Finally, she ended her work career with many years at Great Lakes Marketing.
Sharon Grycza was a terrific lady, the definition of a good person who would do anything to help someone else, and who gave great hugs! She never met a stranger and insisted that there was always room for one more person at her table. Friends and family appreciated her wonderful sense of humor, and the wise advice she gave.
Sharon’s family was the center of her life, and her memory will be treasured by all. We’ll always remember her love of decorating for Christmas inside and outside, gathering her family for summer cookouts, and vacationing at Round Lake cottages and Cedar Point (where she refused to ride the roller coasters).
She volunteered for Perpetual Adoration shifts at both Blessed Sacrament and Our Lady of Mount Carmel for many years.
Sharon is survived by children Ann Marie (the late George) Muehlhauser of Huron, Louis David Grycza of Toledo, Russell (Gaye-Marlaine) Grycza of Bowling Green, and Kristin (Ryan) Metzger of Gahanna; grandchildren Jennifer Pero of Florida, Eryk (Katy) Grycza of Perrysburg, Thomas (Shelina) Grycza of Alabama, Athena Reynolds and Kimberly Marshall of Arizona, Brendan Polenchar of Gahanna, and Leo and Hudson Metzger of Gahanna; several great-grandchildren and many Poddany cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Lou and granddaughter Katherine in 2016.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 12 from 9-10 a.m. in St. Adalbert Catholic Church followed by the Funeral Mass at 10 a.m.  Interment will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 419-476-9176. Condolences may be shared at www.sujkowski.com.
Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon her.

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and other biographical information. It may also include details about their life, accomplishments, and surviving family members.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to inform friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a lasting tribute to the deceased and can be a valuable resource for genealogical research.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, an obituary is written by a family member or close friend of the deceased, although it may also be written by a funeral home or cremation service. In some cases, a professional writer may be hired to write the obituary.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service, hobbies, and surviving family members. It may also include information about their life story, achievements, and personality traits.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication and the family's preferences. Typically, it ranges from a few sentences to several paragraphs. Online obituaries often have more flexibility in terms of length.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a meaningful way to personalize the tribute and help readers remember the deceased.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper or online platform?

The process for submitting an obituary varies depending on the publication or platform. You can usually find submission guidelines on their website or by contacting them directly. Be prepared to provide the necessary information and payment (if required).

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies widely depending on the publication, location, and length of the obituary. Some online platforms offer free or low-cost options, while traditional newspapers may charge several hundred dollars.

Can I edit or revise an obituary after it's been published?

In most cases, it is possible to make corrections or revisions to an obituary after it has been published. However, this may depend on the publication's policies and deadlines.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of a person's passing, usually including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary provides more detailed information about the person's life and legacy.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituary in advance, either as a way to ensure accuracy or as a therapeutic exercise. This can be a unique opportunity for self-reflection and storytelling.

How do I find an old obituary?

You can try searching online archives of newspapers or genealogy websites. Many libraries also maintain archives of local newspapers that can be searched in person or through interlibrary loan programs.

Can I reuse an obituary for multiple publications?

In most cases, yes. You can reuse an obituary for multiple publications, but be sure to check each publication's submission guidelines and formatting requirements.

What if I want to keep the obituary private?

If you prefer not to share the obituary publicly, you can opt for a private or restricted listing on online platforms or request that the funeral home or cremation service handle notifications discreetly.

Can I include charitable donations or memorial information in an obituary?

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The timeframe for publishing an obituary varies depending on the publication's schedule and deadlines. Online platforms often allow for immediate publication, while traditional newspapers may take several days or weeks.
