Obituary Preview: Charles Barger, 83, of Findlay, passed away at 8:40 pm on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center in Findlay.
Born May 28, 1940 in Hamilton, OH., he was the son of Charles and Esther (Wells) Barger. He married Tammy Caudill on September 20, 1986 and she survived in Findlay.
“Doc Barger” retired in 1999 from Dow Chemical in Findlay after 33 years of service. He was known for his love of the outdoors and music. He enjoyed dabbling on his guitar for relaxation.
Charles is survived by his wife; five children: Melissa Barger Heath of Findlay, Michael Barger of Findlay, Brad (Stephani) Barger of Westerville, Matthew Barger of Mt. Cory and Rachel Barger of Findlay; 16 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Visitation will be from 1 – 3 pm on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm at the funeral home, with Celebrant Galen McLeod honoring Charles’ life.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bridge Home Health and Hospice and sent to the funeral home.

Elizabeth Ann O'Flaherty - September 23, 1940 - July 22, 2023

Obituary Preview: Elizabeth Ann ‘Betty’ O’Flaherty, age 82, of Carey, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2023 at The Wyandot County Skilled Care Center.  Betty was the longest resident of the Care Center and will be missed by all the staff.
Betty was born in Carey, Ohio on September 23, 1940, one of five children, to the late Henry M. and Armella E. (Frisch) O’Flaherty. Betty grew up and attended school in Carey.
Betty enjoyed making latch hook rugs, working on puzzles, and never missed a meal.  In younger years, Betty worked at Angeline School and Industries and cleaned for Squeaky Leonard and his family.
Betty is survived by 38 nieces and nephews and countless great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, William (Rosetta) O’Flaherty, John (Frankie) O’Flaherty and David (Rosely) O’Flaherty; and sister, Margaret ‘Mickey’ (Robert) Boes.
An 11 am Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at The Original Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation by Fr. Tom Merrill, OFM Conv. on Wednesday July 26, 2023. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church and burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Carey.

Kathryn Sue Huston - November 11, 1962 - July 12, 2023

Obituary Preview: Kathryn Sue “Kathy” Huston, age 60 of Vanlue, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.
She was born November 11, 1962 in Upper Sandusky, Ohio to the late Bobby and Lucille (Walton) Lambert.
On June 13, 1987 she married Curtis A. Huston.
Kathy graduated from Vanlue High School in 1981 and earned her bachelor of arts degree in education from Bluffton College in 1985. She was a teacher and later homeschooled her daughters. A lifelong candy maker, Kathy owned and operated Chocolate Memories for over 10 years. She was an active member of Vanlue Christ United Methodist Church, where she gave the children’s messages, and previously East Mount Zion Methodist Church. She loved spending time with her family, cooking, gardening, reading, crafting, and collecting Fenton Glass.
She is survived by her husband Curtis A. Huston of Vanlue, OH, her two daughters Angela Huston of Vanlue, OH, and Amanda Huston of Vanlue, OH, her half-brother Robert Lambert of Kenton, OH, her half-sister, Sandy (William) Farabee of Mechanicsburg, OH, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 19, 2023 from 4–7 PM at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, 225 West Findlay St. Carey, Ohio. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 20, 2023 at 11 AM at the funeral home with Pastor Bob Greene officiating. Burial will take place at Wharton-Richland Cemetery.

Edna Lucille Geckle - March 27, 1949 - July 12, 2023

Obituary Preview: Edna Lucille Geckle, age 75, of Carey, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at Marion General Hospital.
Edna was born on March 27, 1948, one of ten children, at home, in Gilboa, Ohio to the late Leonard V. and Lucille (Michel) Geckle. Edna attended school in Vanlue graduating in 1967.
Shortly after graduating, Edna began working at the Budd Company which later became C.S.P. Edna retired after more than 50 years of dedicated service.
Edna enjoyed spending time with her family, taking trips to Nashville and stopping along the way at any casino that caught her eye. She loved to play Bingo and always had a scratch off nearby. In her free time, she could be found cheering on The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Indians or Browns. Believing Elvis was still alive, Edna would listen to his music nonstop and saw him, or maybe an impersonator.
Being a woman of faith, Edna was a long-time member of Our Lady of Consolation Parish in Carey where she had her favorite pew.
Edna will be missed for her stubborn personality by her daughter, Tracy (Stephen) Swift of Findlay; grandchildren, Nicole (Luke) Augustus of Lakeview, Clarissa (Ryan) Fielders of Tiffin, and Alexis Courtney of Bowling Green; great-grandchildren, Lily, Arianna, Deegan, and Phoenix Augustus; siblings, Bill Geckle, Gene (Jane) Geckle, Joann Fletcher, Phil Geckle, Melvin (Jane) Geckle, Richard Geckle and Connie (Bill) England; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, twin-brother, Edward Geckle, sister, Charlene Lortz, brother-in-law, Paul Fletcher, and sister-in-law, Barb Geckle.
Visitation will be held at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home (225 West Findlay Street, Carey) on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 from 4 until 7 pm. An 11 am Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Original Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation on Wednesday, July 19, 2023. Fr. Tom Merrill, OFM Conv., will preside over Mass and burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Carey.

Constance Eileen Komarek - September 27, 1944 - July 10, 2023

Obituary Preview: Constance Eileen ‘Connie’ Komarek, age 78, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away Monday, July 10, 2023 at Desert Haven Adult Care Home after injuries sustained from an automobile accident.
Connie was born in Carey, on September 27, 1944 the eldest of six children, to the late Virginia E. Ritter.    Connie grew up in Carey; here, she graduated high school and was on the cheerleading team.  Shortly after graduating high school, she married Arthur Ernest Pratt, the father of her three children; they later divorced.
Connie enjoyed giving back to the community as a teacher’s aide for more than 30 years.  During her time with the Carey School District, she enjoyed helping children learn to read and reach their highest potential. While working for the schools, Connie met James T. ‘Jim’ Komarek, a fifth and sixth grade teacher.  The two were soon married on July 21, 1978.  After their retirement the two relocated to Arizona.  Jim preceded Connie in death on June 14, 1995.
Connie was a fashion first woman.  She loved to be dressed to the nines no matter where she went and was always on the hunt for a good deal.  She could often be found browsing the aisles at the 99-cent store and Walmart.  Connie didn’t know the word ‘stranger’ and would talk to anyone for hours on end.   She enjoyed spending time at the Moose and VFW where she would help at any event.
In Connie’s free time, she could be found watching one of her thousands of DVDs, exercising with friends, or enjoying a good glass of wine.  Being a woman of faith, Connie was a former member of Grace United Methodist Church in Carey and read her Bible religiously.
Connie will be missed by her daughters, Wendy (Deb Waltman) Strozeski of Tucson, AZ and Misty Beadnell of Findlay; grandchildren, Tyler (Rachel) Jones, Holden and Logan Beadnell;  Dustin Strozeski, Amber Pratt, Ashley (Brandon) Goble, and Wyatt Pratt; 5 great-grandchildren, and sisters, Glory Stalter and Terry Hoffman-Gibson-Sherman; along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her son, Christopher Pratt, husband, Jim; and siblings, Darla, Dale and Floyd Hoffman.
Visitation will be held at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home (225 West Findlay Street) Thursday, July 20, 2023 from 1:30 until 3:30 pm.  A 3:30 pm funeral will be held at the funeral home and burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery.

James Irwin Hall - November 30, 1933 - July 08, 2023

Obituary Preview: James Irwin ‘Jim’ Hall, age 89, of Carey, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Birchaven of Findlay.
Jim was born, at home, in Arlington, on November 30, 1933 to the late Charles E. and Elsie L. (Moore) Hall.  Jim graduated from Carey High School in 1951; where, he excelled as an athlete.  After graduating from High School, he was recruited to play football at The Ohio State University; however, family obligations in Carey prevented him from playing.
Jim married Laurell Dible in 1951; together they had 6 children and later divorced. After moving back to Carey, Nancy Combine caught Jim’s eye while she was driving around town in her convertible.  After mutual interest, Nancy and Jim started dating and the two were married on December 21, 1968.  Nancy fit right in with Jim and his six children. They enjoyed countless boat trips on Lake Erie, mushroom hunting in Michigan, wintering in Florida, and cruises with the Senior Center.  Jim and Nancy celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on December 21, 2022 days before her passing on December 25, 2022.
Jim owned and operated J.F. Dible Co. and R.J. Hall Co. Plumbing and Heating. for more than 30 years providing mechanical contracting for the surrounding area.  He later purchased Burson Insurance and Bakies Insurance Companies, successfully forming Burson-Bakies Insurance Agency.
Jim had an eye for detail and was a perfectionist.  He made sure to read every manual from front to back before starting a project and knew exactly where a flashlight should be pointed.  Jim was a licensed pilot and was proud of earning the highest possible score on his flight test.  In his free time, he could be found perfectly navigating his boat on Lake Erie.
Jim was a lifelong member of Grace United Methodist Church in Carey where he was a former trustee and made sure everything ran smoothly within the church including the steam boilers.  Jim was proud of his time served with the Carey Mason Lodge #420 and served as Master Mason for several years; in 2016 Jim earned his 60-year membership pin.  He was also involved with The Royal Arch Masons, Upper Sandusky Council R&SM and Tiffin Commandery #9.
Jim will be missed by his children, Kristine (Gary) Jones of Pennsylvania, James (Valerie) Hall Jr. of Ada, Ohio, Jeffery (Deb) Hall of Carey, John (Autum) Hall of Carey, and Mary (Bob Baker) Hall of Carey; 20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Kay E. (Ron) Bercaw of Michigan; brothers, Charles E. Hall of Marion and Roger (Cheryl) A. Hall of Carey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Jim was preceded in death by son, Thomas Hall, daughter-in-law, Janet Hall; and sister-in-law, Pam Hall.
Visitation will be held at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home (225 West Findlay Street, Carey), Wednesday, July 12, 2023 from 4 until 7 pm.  An 11 am funeral will be held at the funeral home on Thursday. Friends may call one hour prior to the service, Pastor Loran Miracle will officiate, and burial to follow in Spring Grove Cemetery.

James Ralph Clark - August 18, 1939 - July 07, 2023

Obituary Preview: James Ralph ‘Jim’ Clark, age 83, of Carey, passed away at home on Friday, July 7, 2023.
Jim was born on August 18, 1939, at the family farm, in Mt. Blanchard, Ohio to the late Ralph and EvaNell(Cole) Clark and graduated from Mt. Blanchard High School in 1957.  While in school, he excelled as an athlete playing football, basketball, and baseball.  His love for sports continued throughout his life and he continued to play in the ‘old man leagues’ into his late 40’s.
While out to lunch, Jim met Barbara Kessler at Katie’s Kitchen in Vanlue and the rest was history.  The two were wed shortly after on June 12, 1982.
Jim was a hard-working man always providing for his family.  He worked for several years at Cooper Tire and The Dow Company, ran the family farm, and later retired from Hantech in 2006.  Always wanting to spend time with his family, he made sure never to miss his grandkids sporting events and enjoyed having everyone over at his house.
In Jim’s free time, he could be found making sure his yard was in perfect order and drinking coffee with his buddies at McDonalds in Carey. Being a man of faith, Jim attended various churches, most recently Gateway Church in Findlay.
Jim will be missed by his wife, Barb; children, Deneen (Zeke) Corbin, Craig (Karen) Clark, Shawn (Amy) Clark, Amy (Steve) Adams, and Jeremy (Cassie) Clark; ‘a shit-load’ of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Roger (Karen) Clark, Wayne (Dianne) Clark, Barb (Doug) VanTilberg, and Deb Stofield; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by daughter, Rhonda Clark and brother Don Clark.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 11, 2023 from 4 until 7 pm at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home (225 West Findlay St., Carey).  A funeral will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at 11 am with Pastor Ed Grable officiating.  Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Mt. Blanchard.

Carl David Burks - January 03, 1933 - June 27, 2023

Obituary Preview: Carl David Burks, 90, of Tiffin, passed away peacefully at 2:08 am on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at The Willows of Tiffin, where he resided the past two years.
Born on January 3, 1933 in Carey, Ohio he was the son of George M. and B. Oleta (Dible) Burks. Carl married Beverly A. Hunter on September 7, 1952 at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carey. Beverly preceded him in death on November 9, 2018.
Carl graduated from McCutchenville High School and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He came back to the Burks Family farm and never looked back, only forward. He loved the smell of freshly turned soil and watching his fields flourish. It was a great place to raise his family. He continued farming for almost his entire life whether it was helping the grandchildren with 4-H calves or tending to his beloved chickens.
Carl enjoyed visiting with friends and family, whether around the neighborhood, at church or in the nursing home. He simply loved people. He also loved coaching youth baseball. He found great joy teaching the youngsters how to catch, throw and hit. In his later years, he enjoyed Karaoke and talking to the ducks at The Willows. A man of deep faith, he was a member of Family of Faith Lutheran Church in Tiffin where he loved interacting and participating in Bible study and service weekly.
He and Beverly were blessed with five children: Dave (Mary) Burks of Inlet Beach, FL., Jim (Patricia) Burks of Findlay, Tom (Lisa) Burks of Dahlonega, GA., Lisa (Mike) Yoder and Lynn (Dan) Miller both of Tiffin; 17 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. He is also survived by five siblings: Floy “Sissy” Swerlein of Carey, Lois (Jerry) Wolber of Ada, Virginia Berberick of Findlay, Paul (Lynn) Burks of Upper Sandusky and Fred Burks of Sycamore and three in-laws: Phyllis Burks, Romaine Burks and Mike Jinks.
Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, six siblings: Donald, Clyde and Owen Burks, Eva Pahl, Mary Latham and Helen Jinks; five in-laws: Melvin Swerlein, Jerry Pahl, Les Latham, Ed Berberick and Carol Burks and a granddaughter, Stacy Yoder.
Visitation will be from 4 – 7 pm on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey.
Carl’s funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 7, 2023 at the funeral home with Pastor Phil Moerdyk officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery in Carey, with military graveside rites conducted by the Carey Honor Guard. Upon completion of the graveside rites, a luncheon will be held at the Family of Faith Lutheran Church in Tiffin, OH.

Brenda Lynn Phillips - February 26, 1961 - May 26, 2023

Obituary Preview: Brenda Lynn Phillips, age 62, of Tiffin, went to be with the Lord, on  Friday, May 26, 2023 at her home surrounded by family.
Brenda was born on February 26, 1961 in Ashland, Kentucky to the late Charles and Beverly J. (Nunley) Messmer.  Brenda grew up and attended school in Upper Sandusky.  Brenda later attended Stautzenberger Community College where she was enrolled in The Medical Assistant Program.
While working at The Budd Company she caught the eye of Roger Phillips and after some light ‘chasing’ and being transferred to the same department they were married on September 30, 1989.  In addition to working at The Budd Company, she worked as a paralegal and went on to work at Defiance Precision Products as a Lab Tech Supervisor.
Brenda was a woman of faith and first joined The Harvest Time Chapel in Vanlue when she was 16. Having a heart of gold, Brenda welcomed anyone into her home who needed a home cooked meal. Brenda’s kitchen was always full of food and she could can anything. Holidays were extremely special to Brenda; she made sure everyone had Christmas gifts and there were 1000’s of Easter Eggs hidden every year.
Brenda has an artistic nature and enjoyed crafting, drawing, and creating scrapbooks.  Always wanting to look perfect, she spent countless hours working on her nails, just to wipe it off and start over.  In Brenda’s free time, she could be found working in her garden or soaking up the sun. She also enjoyed camping at Walnut Grove with her family.
Brenda will be missed for her warm and gentle smile, by her husband, Roger; children, Amber Phillips of Lima, Tami (Jon) Tiell of Tiffin, Chelsea (Seth) Kitzler of Carey, and Blake (Autumn) Phillips of Ada; grandchildren, Alexis, Logan, Mikaela, Ashton, Audrey, Hannah, Maggie Jo, Ryan, Leah, Alaina, Zayden, and August; siblings, Pam (Steve) Gossman of Carey, Bill (Leisha) Messmer, of Rush, Kentucky, and Babs (Ken) Atwell of Carey; sister-in-law, Linda Messmer of Louisa, Kentucky; and numerous nieces and nephews who lovingly called her ‘Aunt B’.
In addition to her parents, Brenda was preceded in death by brother, Charles ‘Eddie’ Messmer.
Visitation will be held at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home (225 West Findlay Street, Carey) on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 from 1 until 4 pm and 6 until 8 pm.  A funeral will be held at The Harvest Time Chapel (21162 Township Road 171, Vanlue) on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at 11 am.  Friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Douglas J Jordan - December 30, 1948 - May 02, 2023

Obituary Preview: Douglas J. “Dougie-Pooh” Jordan, 74, of Carey, passed away peacefully at 4:48 am on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus.
Born December 30, 1948 in Hardin County, Ohio, he was the son of Wilbur F. and I. Marcella (Winebrenner) Jordan.
Doug graduated from Upper Sandusky High School. He was a Vietnam Era veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.
Doug retired from ODOT in 2003 after 30 years of employment. He did everything from road maintenance to dispatcher.
His motto for life was “Work Hard….Play Harder”! He lived for hanging out with his friends, which ranged from boating and skiing at Ellis Lake in his early years, riding his Harley, cruising in his Corvette, to sitting in the clubs or his garage enjoying a Crown Royal or two.
Doug is survived by his sister, Sue A. Mangine of Fairview, PA; two nephews: Christopher Mangine and Marcus Mangine and a niece, Nichole Mangine.
He was preceded in death by his parent, step-mother, Rosemary “Rosie” (Ellis) Stephan Jordan and brother in-law, Ronal Mangine.
Visitation will be from 2 – 4:30 pm on Sunday, May 7, 2023 at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey. There will be a military service following visitation conducted by the Carey Honor Guard.
A private burial will take place at a later date at Grove Cemetery in Kenton.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and sent to the funeral home.

Joshua was born in Marion, Ohio on January 20, 1987 to Annette Dill. He grew up in Carey where he graduated from Carey High School in 2006. While in school, Joshua enjoyed Peewee sports and art classes. After graduation, Joshua worked for various factories and landscaping companies.
Joshua enjoyed being outside at the grill with a cold beer in hand and playing cornhole with his friend, Rodney. In his free time, he could be found watching the History Channel or Sports Center. Joshua looked forward to yearly camping trips with his family and arguing with everyone just like his grandpa taught him.
Joshua will be missed by his parents, Robert and Annette Myers; grandparents, Margaret Dill and Janice and Pat Doran; many aunts and uncle; and feline companions, Opey and Faith.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023 from 11 am until 1 pm at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home (225 West Findlay St., Carey). Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery with Chaplain Steve Sturgeon officiating.

Obituary Preview: Wayne Frasure, age 75, of Carey, passed away at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home on Wednesday, April 26, 2023.
Wayne was born, one of twelve children, in Mt. Blanchard, Ohio on October 11, 1947 to the late Luther and Ollie (Collins) Frazier and attended school in Carey.
Wayne was a hardworking man and spent more than 22 years at Progress Plastics as a maintenance technician. While working at Progress, Wayne met Aldebaran “Deb” Koke and after dating for a few years, the two married on February 25, 2000 at Green Springs Methodist Church.
In Wayne’s free time, he and Deb, enjoyed browsing flea markets for antique stamps, military items, and quill pins. Wayne also enjoyed building small scale boats and in younger years enjoyed camping.
In addition to his wife, Deb, Wayne is survived by step-son, Doug (Patty) Wallace; grandchildren, Mave and Maya Wallace; sister, Wilma Ellis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Wayne is preceded in death by his son, David Frasure; and siblings, Howard, Willie, Willbern, Clyde, Joe, Wilma, Willard, Willis, Wilkie, Dixie, and Ethel.
Burial will take place at a later date at McPherson Cemetery in Clyde, Ohio.

Obituary Preview: Vivian L. Barry, 83, of La Rue, passed away peacefully at 1:34 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky, with her family by her side.
Born July 18, 1939 in Wyandot County, she was the daughter of Kenneth and Dorthy (Potts) Oliver. She married Allen E. Barry on November 7, 1959 in Kenton. He preceded her in death on March 16, 2017.
Vivian is survived by two children: Judith A. (Charles Roby, Jr.) Morris of Ridgeway and Keven J. (Daleane) Barry of Sycamore; three grandchildren: Dusty O’Reilly, Amy Huston and Jake McMillion; 12 great grandchildren: Indigo and Azure O’Reilly, Corwin and Aiden Barry, Trevor and Ethan Tucker, Jack, Maverick, Ryan, Drew, Coy and Emma Lininger. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Riale of Georgetown, Delaware and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, a son, Allen E. Barry, Jr. and a great grandson, Jeremy Barry; three brothers: Frank and Kenneth Oliver and Foy Shoewalter and three sisters: Janice Harris, Hilda Eldridge and Freda Weston.
Vivian loved to read autobiographies and mysteries. When she didn’t have her nose in a book, you could find her enjoying all the wildlife around her home. Vivian had a special relationship with her nieces and nephews. She enjoyed many meals with them over the years.
A Celebration of Vivian’s life will be held at Vivian’s home from 2 – 6 p.m. on Saturday April 15, 2023. The family requests casual attire. A private graveside service will be held at a later date in Chandler Cemetery near Marseilles.

Obituary Preview: Phyllis ‘Pat’ Ann Brezina, ‘The Queen of the family’, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2023 at Autumnwood Care Center in Tiffin, Ohio. Pat was 87 years old and lived most of her life in Carey.
Pat was born on May 2, 1935 to the late Charles F. Brown and Elma M. (Lane) in Mansfield, Ohio.  Pat attended Madison High School near Mansfield graduating in 1953.  She then earned a nursing degree from Mansfield General Hospital.
On February 9, 1957, Pat married Jon ‘Jack’ Brezina in Mansfield.  Together Pat and Jack moved to the Carey area and raised their two sons.
Pat spent many years as a Registered Nurse, first starting in the Labor and Delivery Department and later became the head of the Emergency Department at Wyandot Memorial Hospital. Pat then helped to start and run the Specialized Health Care Department at Wyandot Memorial Hospital where she worked until her retirement in 1997. After her retirement, she continued to work with Specialized Nursing in Carey and, while staying at Autumnwood, she would routinely tell the nurses what they were doing right or wrong.
In Pat’s free time, she enjoyed scrapbooking and cross stitching.  Having a crafty nature, she enjoyed making bracelets out of beads for her family and designing flowers for weddings.
Pat will be missed for her independent personality by her husband, Jack; sons, Jon Joseph (Susan) Brezina II and James ‘Jim’ Scott (Rhonda) Brezina; grandchildren, Aaron (Lisa) Brezina, Daniel (Clare) Brezina, Jacqueline (Andrew) Faeth, and Jocelyn Brezina; one soon to be great-grandchild; siblings, Carol Bumpus, Karen ‘Kay’ (Dick) Jourdan, and Gary Harrison; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Pat is also survived by Lois Anderson who was not only her caretaker, but a like a daughter.
In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her step-father, Russell Harrison, who raised her since she was 10 years old; brothers, Kenneth Harrison and William Brown and favorite feline companion, Lillie.
A celebration of Pat’s life will be held at noon at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, (225 West Findlay St., Carey) on Saturday, April 15, 2023 with Rev. Cynthia Morrison officiating.  Friends are invited to visit the family 2 hours prior to the service and burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery.

Born October 2, 1950 in Findlay, Jane was the daughter of James G. and Hilda M. (Collins) Campbell.
Jane graduated from Carey High School in 1968. She continued her education at Owens Technical College, where she earned her LPN license. She was employed by Blanchard Valley Hospital for many years with her final 10 plus years in the Hospice Care Center providing loving care to patients and families.
Surviving is her son, Bryan S. Richards of Carey, a brother, Todd (Lea) Campbell of Carey and nephew, Carson Campbell. She is also survived by her four-legged companion, Sam.
Preceding her in death were her parents and a brother, James Jeffrey Campbell.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2 – 4pm on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey.

Dennis Joel Roark - March 18, 1957 - February 03, 2023

Obituary Preview: Dennis Joel Roark, an unapologetically unfiltered and sarcastic man, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 3. 2023 at his home. He was 65 years old and lived near Carey, Ohio.
Dennis was born in Findlay, Ohio on March 18, 1957 to the late Hager Don Roark and Melba Jewel Blair. Dennis grew up moving around while his step-father was in the Army and attended high school in Portland, Oregon.  Shortly after high school, he entered the US Army where he was an Infantry Scout.
After being honorably discharged, Dennis returned to Carey and began working as a Maintenance Electrician.  After retiring in 2020 he decided he could not sit still and continued to work part-time at Bridgestone.
In Dennis’ free time, he could often be found hunting anything from deer to rabbit and his grandson Lane was always by his side.  Dennis was an avid fisherman and spent many hours at Port Clinton and the Findlay Reservoir.  He also enjoyed tinkering with and building guns and four-wheelers.  Dennis loved to sing and would play his guitar any chance he had.
Dennis had a giving personality and loved with his whole heart.  If his daughters, Kristi and Erin, ever needed anything he was never more than a phone call away--day or night.  Also, he was always ready to talk to them about the sunset he had seen or the wildlife playing in the backyard.
Dennis will be missed by his daughters, Kristi Bodey of Upper Sandusky and Erin (Nate) Sepetauc of Plain City; grandchildren, Lane Bodey and Harper Sepetauc; step-mother, Diane Henifin; siblings, Tamara (Dan) Hunter, James (Cassie) Blair, and Jennifer (Jon) Roark-Kirby; several nieces and nephews, and grand-dog (who he claimed joint custody), Schatzi.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, James Blair and grandson, Jordan Bodey.
Visitation will be held at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home (225 West Findlay Street, Carey) on Thursday, February 9, 2023 from 4 until 8 pm.  A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11 am.

Nancy Lee Hall - July 14, 1938 - December 25, 2022

Obituary Preview: Nancy Lee Hall, age 84, of Carey, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2022 at Birchaven in Findlay, Ohio.
Nancy was born in Columbus, Ohio on July 17, 1938 to the late Howard and Valerie (Nye) Combine. Nancy attended grade school in Bexley, Ohio and after her parents divorced, she and her sister Linda returned to Carey; here, she graduated from Carey High School in 1957. Nancy then continued her education at Bowling Green State University where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in 1961 and a Master’s degree in 1963. While attending BGSU, Nancy belonged to the Alpha Phi Sorority.
Nancy worked for two years as an elementary and secondary level teacher in Sylvania Elementary Schools and then relocated to the Carey Schools where she was a long-time guidance counselor. After being in education for 30 years Nancy retired and continued to substitute teach. Nancy was a lifelong member of the Ohio Education Association and National Education Association.
After moving back to Carey, Nancy reconnected with a family friend, James ‘Jim’ Hall. On December 21, 1968 the two were wed. Nancy was a wonderful mother to Jim’s 6 children and treated them as her own. Together Nancy and James celebrated their 54th-wedding anniversary on December 21, 2022 at Birch Haven with family members present.
Nancy always enjoyed volunteering within the Carey and surrounding communities. She could often be found helping with the Board of Elections and The United Way. Nancy was also active with The Wyandot and Sandusky Mental Health Board, was a trustee for the Wyandot Council on Aging, and a member of the Advisory Board in Mansfield for Area 5 Council on Aging. Nancy also delivered meals once a week for those homebound and was selected Senior Citizen of the Year for Wyandot County.
Being a woman of faith, Nancy was a long-time member of Grace United Methodist Church in Carey where she was on several committees and organized the ‘Lunch Bunch’. She also belonged to the local Red Hat Society and the ‘Page Turners’ at the Library.
Nancy enjoyed traveling with her family and taking trips and cruises with the Senior Center. She could often be found mushroom hunting with Jim and skiing both in Michigan and Ohio. Never being one to sit still, Nancy and Jim enjoyed wintering for ten years in Florida, first at an RV Park on the Gulf and two years at Dogwood Mobile Home Park in Bushnell, Florida. Nancy and also Jim enjoyed boating and fishing on Lake Erie and in Canada. In Nancy’s free time, she could be found with the ‘Craft Ladies’ at the Upper Sandusky Senior Center or taking an arthritis class in the Fostoria YMCA pool.
Nancy enjoyed attending all of her grandchildren’s activities and was a volunteer with the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. She made sure to keep track of all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s birthdays and accomplishments. In younger years, she enjoyed bowling, tennis, swimming, and of course socializing! Nancy loved life and people.
Her happiest moments were being with other people, classmates, friends, fellow workers and of course family. She was always happy, cheerful and positive.
Nancy will be missed by her husband James of Carey; stepchildren, Kristine (Gary) Jones of Pennsylvania, James (Valerie) Hall Jr. of Ada, Ohio, Jeffery (Deb) Hall of Carey, John (Autumn) Hall of Carey, and Mary (Bob Baker) Hall of Carey; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and brother Stephen (Valerie) Smiley of Sringboro, Ohio; first cousins, Cindy Blake and Jim Nye; niece, Shannon Cathey of Columbus.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by stepson, Thomas Hall; step-parents, Lester and Georgia Smiley, and sister, Linda Cathey.
Visitation will be held at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home (225 West Findlay Street, Carey) on Thursday, December 29, 2022 from 4 until 7 pm. A funeral will be held 11 am on Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Loran Miracle officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: Keith Elvin Williams, 73, of Carey, died unexpectedly of a massive heart attack on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, in the emergency room of Tiffin Mercy Hospital.
Keith was born in Tiffin, Ohio to the late Glenn and Bernice (Ruehle) Williams on Jan. 28, 1951. He married Judi Kromer on April 24, 1971 at the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation Parish and she survives in Carey. Keith is also survived by his daughter Mindy (Derek) Sidor of Carey and 3 grandchildren: Owen, Oliver, and Annabelle; and his brother Neil Williams of Kenton, Ohio and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his brother Wallace Williams.
Keith graduated from Carey High School in the Class of 1969.
He was an avid reader and an accomplished woodworker, featuring many of his woodworking skills at the Gray Mare in Carey. Keith was very active in his grandchildren’s lives, including attending sports and school events.
Keith was a member of the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation Parish. He worked for National Lime and Stone Company in Carey for 20 years and retired from Heritage Nursing Home in Findlay in 2012. Keith was a member of the Carey Lodge F & AM # 420, where he served as Worshipful Master, DeMolay Commander #9, Zenobia Shrine of Toledo, where he was a past president of the Findlay Clowns Unit. Keith was also a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of the Valley of Toledo.
Visitation for Keith will be on Thursday, June 13, 2024 from 4:00 until 7:00 pm at Stombaugh-Batton & Snyder Funeral Home 225 W. Findlay St., Carey, Ohio 43316. He was born Feb. 2nd, 1954 in Van Wert, OH to Claud and Darl (Abts) Perry. He was a 1973 graduate of Findlay High School and went on to earn his associate degree from Tiffin University. He married Linda Haley on Dec. 20, 1975 and she passed away Jan. 26, 2006 due to Huntington’s disease. He later married Cindy (Inbody) Sims on May 27, 2007. She survives, along with his son, Ned, of Findlay; stepchildren: Jason (Nikki) Sims of Fostoria, Brooke (Victor) Tovar, of McComb, Brett (Denice) Sims and Jeff (Kim) Sims, all of Findlay; 7 grandchildren: Lance Sims, Mica Ramirez-Deeter (Bradley), Chaz (Ebonie) Ramirez, Logan Harris (Tyler), Livia Harris, Makayla (Ethan) Dabish, and Autumn Sims; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers: Dave (Judi) Perry of Mt. Cory and Bruce (Amy) Perry of Rossford; and stepfather-in-law Tom (Linda) Teneyck.
He was preceded by his parents, wife Linda, twin brother Ned, sister Linda, and niece Betsy.
Neil was a wonderful, loving, fun man who loved to sing. He was a strong Christian who was active in the churches he attended: St. Paul’s, Stonebridge, Trinity Baptist, and currently College First Church of God. He enjoyed volunteering with Bible studies, Operation Christmas Child, The Free Store, Huntington’s Disease Society, and many others.
Neil retired from The Courier and Walmart recently. He loved spending time with his family, including his stepfather-in-law Tom Teneyck and his wife Linda.
The family requests no flowers, but memorial contributions may be made in Neil’s honor to Operation Christmas Child, Huntington’s Disease Society, or the College First Church of God, Ambassador’s Class.

Judy was born on August 29, 1945 in Lima, Ohio to the late John and Martha (Erhart) McCullough. She married the love of her life Alva “Sonny” Beard on September 5, 1964 in the Rectory at St. Michael the Archangel Parish and he survives in Findlay. Also surviving are her loving children: Kim (Marc) Maas of Custar, Ohio, Wendy Beard of Findlay, Ohio, Lori Sammet of Carey and Cari (Ryan) Price of Findlay; grandchildren: Bryton Sammet, Zoey Sammet, Chevy Dillinger, Mariah Beard, Matt Rood and Logan Price; brothers: Jerry (Bonnie) McCullough and Harold (Sharon) McCullough; a sister in law Ruth McCullough and Connie (Gary) Graves and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Ralph McCullough.
Judy was a 1963 graduate of McComb High School. Judy worked at Centrex as Quality Control Specialist. Judy was a devout Christian who was a faithful member of the All Saints Parish in New Riegel. Judy was also a former member of the AMVETS in Findlay. Judy loved doing diamond gem art, crocheting, puzzles and a good crossword. Judy was an excellent cook and loved going on casino trips. Judy had a strong work ethic and was a caring loving individual who would help anyone in a time of need. But more than anything Judy loved her family, especially her grandchildren who were her pride and joy.

Obituary Preview: Barbara Jean Fletcher, a loving wife, mother, grandma and friend to all passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024 in the comfort of her own home surrounded by those she loved at the age of 74.
Barbara was born on August 20, 1949 in Tiffin, Ohio to the late Joseph and Wilma (Durst) Decker. She married the love of her life Paul Fletcher on January 21, 1967 and he survives in Carey. Also surviving are her three children: Timothy Fletcher, Carrie Earl and Amanda Fletcher-Sherer all of Carey; grandchildren: Clay, Chase, Anthony, Austin, Logan and her great-grandchildren: Dalilah and Braiycen. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Carol Canode, Mary Burks and Daniel Decker.
Barbara attended Tiffin Calvert High School and was a member of the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey. Barbara retired from Kroger in Fostoria, in the deli/bakery, and was known for her cake decorating. Barbara also took pride in planting flowers around her home and making sure everything was beautiful and perfect. Barb loved to travel with family and friends especially to the Amish country, Virginia, and to most recently to Northern Michigan with her daughters and sister-in-laws . Barbara owned and operated Pretty Palette Ceramics years ago creating and teaching how to make beautiful masterpieces. She made many life long friends at both Kroger and her ceramics business. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting and scrapbooking while in the lovely company of her family and friends. Barbara was a strong willed, loving and caring individual. She lived for her family and enjoyed every moment she had with them. Her spirit will live on in each one of them and will be deeply missed by all those who knew her.

Obituary Preview: Richard C. “Dick” Hudson, 85 of Carey, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2024 at the Birchaven Village, Findlay.
Richard was born in Bucyrus, Ohio on June 21, 1938, to the late Harry and Garnett (Gatchell) Hudson. His first marriage of 20 years was to Joyce Henry. He later married Darla (Bloom) Hughes who still resides in Carey, Ohio. Richard is survived by his children: Kimberly (Glenn) Orwig of Tiffin, Angelia (Rick) DiGioia of Mount Dora, Florida, and stepchildren Paula (Andrew Morano) Priest of Columbus, and Corrill “Cory” Hughes of Carey. He is preceded in death by his brother Steven Hudson.
Richard is a 1956 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School and went on to attend Heidelberg University. In 1970, Richard moved to Tiffin where he began his career with National Machinery LLC. While he worked in Material Control Department, one of his accomplishments was the development of an automated inventory control program that significantly increased production. In 1998, Richard retired after 30 years of service and became a part of the Quarter Century Club. He was a member of the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carey, Ohio, as well as the Warpole Lodge of F&AM #176 and O.E.S. #366 of Upper Sandusky.
Richard enjoyed spending time in his woodworking shop and restoring classic cars. He was an animal lover who greatly enjoyed the outdoors. He cherished his time with his friends and family, as well as traveling for both business and pleasure. Richard was a talented musician that could play the piano and saxophone. His distinctive laugh would light up a room and his easygoing personality connected him with coworkers and friends in the community.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Birchaven Village and Bridge Hospice staff along with Pastor Loren Miracle with the exceptional care they provided for Richard.
Visitation time will be on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Stombaugh-Batton & Snyder Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay St., Carey, OH 43316. Obituary Preview: Charles F. “Fred” Burks, 77, of Sycamore, passed away Friday, May 3, 2024 in the comfort of his own home surrounded by those he loved.
Charles, known by Fred to many, was the twelfth child of the late George and Oleta (Dible) Burks and was born on January 5, 1947, in McCutchenville, Ohio. Fred is survived by his children: Tami (Gregg) Bell of Sycamore, Shelli (Duane) Coldiron of Sycamore, Natalie (Eric) Butterman of Bucyrus and Matthew Burks of Sycamore; grandchildren: Hanna and Kayla Burks, Bryan (Aubrey) Bell, Kaitlin Bell and Megan Bell, Erika (Josh) Kirian, Lydia and Jake Coldiron, Drew, Charli and Willa Butterman; great-grandchildren: Spencer, Jane and Noah; siblings: Floy Swerlein, Lois Wolber, Ginny Berberick and Paul Burks and a dear mentor to Austin “Chub” Harris. Fred was preceded in death by his siblings: Carl Burks, Owen Burks, Donald Burks, Clyde Burks, Eva Pahl, Mary Latham and Helen Jinks.
Fred was a 1965 graduate of Sycamore Mohawk High School and was a member of the Sycamore United Church of Christ. Fred devoted himself to working on the family farm. He was a dairy and crop farmer. In his earlier years, Fred was a member of the Ohio Young Farmers. Fred always started off his day with his morning cup of coffee before heading into the fields or tending to his dairy herd. Fred was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan, loved fishing, hunting, playing a good round of golf or watching old western movies. He also enjoyed spending time in Canada relaxing with a fishing pole in his hand. Fred took great pride in his family. He volunteered to coach his children’s sporting events and would help anyone, especially his family, in a time of need.
Visitation for Fred will be on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 from 4:00 PM until the time of his Celebration of Life Service at 6:00 PM in the Stombaugh-Batton & Snyder Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay St., Carey, Ohio 43316, Chaplain Steve Sturgeon, officiating.
