Leona Joanne Schmidt - August 25, 1931 - December 10, 2023

Departed: 12/10/2023 (Bradford)
Obituary Preview: Leona Joanne Schmidt
Leona Joanne Schmidt was born August 25, 1931 at Covington, Ohio, to John and Hester (McConnell) Forsythe.  She passed into the eternal presence of Jesus on December 10, 2023, at the age of 92.
She spent her childhood and school years, enjoying family and making many friends in the Covington area, where she met and married Sebestian (Shorty) Schmidt on March 31, 1951.  Their life together was blessed by five children:  Linda (Roger) Scalf, James (Jim) Schmidt, Anthony (Tony)(Cheryl)Schmidt, Ruthann (Jeffrey) Hudelson, and Janet (Rodney) Sprenkel.  They also enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren:  Peggy Long, Rob Lear, Keith Lear, Dan Scalf, Neil Scalf, Joshua S. Schmidt, Joshua J. Schmidt, Lee Schmidt, Rachel Schmidt, Ben Hudelson, Brandon Hudleson, Lindsay Hirt, Wesley Sprenkel, Bradley Sprenkel, Josie Frantz, 29 Great Grandchildren, and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren.  Mom was preceded in death by her husband Shorty, her son Tony, and son-in-law Roger.  Mom’s siblings were:  Donald Forsythe, Deloris Pohlabeln, Dale (Sonny) Forsythe, John Gilbert (Gib) Forsythe, and Janet (Ken) Hines.  She is survived by her youngest sister and brother-in-law.
We would like to make special mention of Mom’s loyal friend and prayer partner, Geannine Miller, and nephew and spouse, Art and Pat Schmidt.  We would also like to thank Courtyard at Troy for mom’s care, especially nurses Amanda and Bree, and Everheart Hospice for their loving care during Mom’s passing.
Mom was not ashamed to share with others about her Lord! If you were new to meeting her, it wasn’t long in the conversation that she was talking about Jesus, and why you needed to know Him. She was gentle and compassionate, but firm with her approach, even if you really didn’t want to hear what she had to say.  She also was a mighty prayer warrior! She would cover her family in prayer daily, clear down to her great-great grandchildren. And if you had a prayer request you could be assured, if you called mom, you would be lifted before the Throne of God. Our mom was not perfect, but our Lord who worked in her is! So, we lift up His name which is above ALL names in praise, honor and glory! May we, who have been touched by her life, carry on the testimony of faith that has been given to us, in Jesus’s name!
Service will be held 11:00AM, Friday, December 15, 2023, at Common Ground Christian Church, Bradford, with Pastors Dan Scalf and Rodney Sprenkel officiating.  Interment will follow in Miami Memorial Park, Covington.  Family will receive friends from 9:00-11:00 AM on Friday at the church.
Contributions may be made to Bradford Resource Center.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.stockerfraley.com. Romans 1:8-9 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world. For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of His Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers, Romans 1:16-17 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”
