Frances Sue Walker - December 27, 1929 - April 29, 2024

Obituary Preview: Frances Sue Walker age 94, of Knoxville passed away peacefully at her home on April 29, 2024, surrounded by friends and family. Born on December 27, 1929, to Maude and Mose Tuck, she was the youngest of six children.
Sue was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church where she was active in Vacation Bible School, doing the monthly bulletin mailouts, cooking in the church kitchen and greeting church members or guests on Sundays as they came to worship with her warm sweet smile. She retired from Standard Knitting Mill where she and her best friend Barbara continued to stay in touch with their friends by assisting with the yearly reunion in August. Last year she was recognized as the oldest retiree.
Sue was loved by all who knew her and was known for her wonderful desserts - especially her pecan pies and chocolate-cherry cake. She never met a stranger, and her smile and kind heart will be missed by everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her niece Jackie Sue Walker, her great niece and husband Missy and Gerry Jovel, their children, Jakob and Eva, and her best friend for over sixty years Barbara Donahue, who was more a sister than a friend and many special friends who were more like family and will be remembered as such.
She is preceded in death by her mother Maude Tuck, father Mose Tuck, husband Joseph Patton Walker, sisters Minnie Lee Fortenberry and Virgina Lou Tuck and brothers Edward, Raymond, and Hugh Tuck.
The family would like to thank all who sent cards, came to visit, prayed for Sue, and sent gifts and food. A very special thanks to the three caregivers who took such wonderful care of her during her last few weeks at her home. The family will receive friends at Stevens Mortuary, 1304 Oglewood Avenue, Knoxville, Tn 37917

Wanda Imogene Hacker - August 26, 1936 - April 20, 2024

Obituary Preview: Wanda Imogene Hacker, age 87, of Knoxville, Tenn., went to be with the Lord on April 20, 2024.
Imogene was born on Aug. 26, 1936, in Heiskell, Tenn. She was the daughter of Rev. Shade and Libby Brooks. Her soul mate, best friend, and husband of 69 years is Gibb Lester Hacker, of Knoxville, Tenn.
Imogene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved traveling (especially mountain-area drives with a coffee shop always within range), gardening, baking (well-known for her amazing pecan pies and biscuits) and studying and sharing the Bible. For more than 30 years, she worked in the banking industry in various roles, working her way up from bank teller to vice president and head of operations.
Imogene’s greatest love was her family and made sure they were taught about the love of Jesus Christ. Her bright blue eyes and smile were infectious and lit up any room she entered.
She regularly attended Clear Springs Baptist Church before her illness. During her years with Mt. Olive Baptist Church, in Andersonville, Tenn., Imogene often sang in a trio with her sister Thelma Cox and brother Kyle Brooks, regularly accompanied by her daughter, Inez Tackett, on piano.
Imogene is survived by her husband, Gibb Hacker; daughter Inez Tackett, of Knoxville, Tenn.; daughter and son-in-law Kristi and Dan Marren, of Dagsboro, Delaware; grandson Nathan Smith and great-grandson Gavin Smith, of Corryton, Tenn.; and her grand-dogs Riley Tackett and Lucy Marren, who traveled miles to deliver smiles to Imogene at American House Halls. Additionally, she is survived by her sisters Thelma Cox, of Heiskell, Tenn., and Lola Heck, of Powell, Tenn. Imogene was preceded in death by brothers Ralph, Ira, Joe, and Kyle Brooks.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring staff of Gentiva Hospice, especially nurse Molly Bolus, who spearheaded her care with incredible love, compassion, and humor; and to a select group of caring angels at the American House Halls dementia care home, who went above and beyond to provide exceptional love and care to Imogene and her family.

Obituary Preview: Sharon Kaye McKinney, age 74 of Knoxville Tennessee passed away peacefully at home on April 18, 2024. She worked many years in the medical field as a Medical Practice Administrator.
Sharon was kind, and loving, and made a difference in the lives of so many. She cared for her husband, Ronnie who had ALS for seventeen years. He lived a long life due to her fierce dedication to his well-being. Her children and her grandson were her life. Her concern for Terri, Wayne, Matt, Courtney, and Jordan was a part of her being. They will miss her terribly but know that she is where she needs to be with peace and no pain and with her precious husband, Ronnie.
She is preceded in death by her husband Ronald Jordan McKinney, her brother Boyd “Captain” Fennell, her parents Clayton and Catherine Fennell, half-brothers Carl and Roger Fennell.
She is survived by her daughter, Terri Marlene McKinney Henson (Wayne), her son Matthew Scott McKinney (Courtney Sumner), her beloved grandson, Jordan Daniel Reitz, half-brother Tommy Fennell; and half-sisters Wanda and Darlene. Sharon cherished her sisters-in-law, Pat and Eula.
Sharon’s family would like to thank Quality Care Home Health therapists and Amedisys Hospice nurses for their kindness and support. Also, we would like to thank special friends Denise and Buffy, and family members Lesa and Bobbie.

Obituary Preview: Helen Elizabeth Proffitt Ogle Purdom passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024. She was born on May 21, 1925, in Chestnut Hill, TN. She was the daughter of the late Horace Proffitt and Frankie Gibson Proffitt. Mrs. Purdom was preceded in death by her husbands, Frank Roland Ogle and William Lee Purdom; brothers, Edward Alexander Proffitt and Horace Allen Proffitt; and grandson, Jerrod Bates.
Helen was an amazing mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. She was known to her family and many others as “Grammy.” Helen was a dedicated and caring Nursing Assistant at UT Hospital for over 20 years. She was the oldest member of Buffat Heights Baptist Church and remained an active witness and dedicated servant for her Lord even when she could not physically attend services. She was an active member of WMU, her Sunday School Class, and Eastern Star Shekinah Chapter #456, and served many offices including Grand Worthy Matron. She enjoyed life, was a great Prayer warrior, and was an encouragement to others. She was an excellent cook and hostess entertaining many in her home on numerous occasions. She fully embraced family, cherishing each member and keeping family close.
She is survived by sons, David Frank (Phyllis) Ogle, Sr., Charles Edward (Phyllis) Ogle, James Milas (Frankie) Ogle, Sr.; step-daughter, Debbie Murphy; loving nephew, Dr. Bryan (Kathy) Thompson; caring friend, Jody Lusby; grandchildren, Dave (Kris) Ogle, Jr., Sarah (Thompson) Skeen, Mandy (Jimbo) Schaffer, Rebecca Ogle, Jimmy (Kaci) Ogle, Jr., Andy (Olivia) Ogle, Megan (Trey) Phillips, Heather (Matt) Tirrell; and great-grandchildren, Madison Ogle, Tre Skeen, Drew Skeen, Jim Ogle, Abbie Beatty, Wyatt Ogle, Boone Ogle, Josie Ogle, Jay Phillips, Jordan Tirrell, Taylor Tirrell, Neylan Bates, and Nash Bates; Sydney Schaffer, Laynie Schaffer, and Brody Schaffer; several nieces and nephews.

He also served as a board member with the Selective Service System for 18 years. He did his post-grad work in real estate at the University of Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Hicks Shipley; son, James David Shipley; father, Walter L. Shipley, Sr.; mother, Amanda Irick Shipley; brothers, Walter L. Jr., Earl, Frank, Raymond, and Jimmy; sisters, Geneva Dunaway, Ella,

Gooch died March 17, 2024. She was born August 5, 1932 in Corryton to Walter Steele and Lola Beeler Thompson. She was the youngest of four children; two sister and one brother predeceased her, Ella Mae Thompson Warman, Edward Beeler Thompson, and Martha Thompson Donahue. She was also predeceased by a nephew H.V. (Van) Donahue III.
Katy graduated from U.T., Knoxville in 1954 with a degree in Home Economics. Her first professional job was with TVA. She moved to Cleveland, OH with her husband and worked for the Cleveland Dairy Council. She moved to Sunnyvale, CA with her husband and worked for the State of CA as an employment interviewer in the Placement Office at West Valley College. Her longest employment was with West Valley College as Director of Student Financial Aid. She retired and got “itchy” and went back to school at DeAnza College and earned an AA in Medical Assisting while working for a caterer. She then accepted employment as an event coordinator a historic house in Mountain View, CA. She “retired” again when her husband retired in 2001 and they moved to Knoxville for retirement. She was reared in Washington Presbyterian Church and was a current member. Her retirement activities have included Washington Presbyterian Church, Central High School Class of 1950, American Association of University Women, League of Women Voters, Democratic Women of Knoxville and many other education, historical and cultural activities. She enjoyed life but said she did not know what she wanted to do when she grew up. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Beverley Randolph Gooch. Other survivors are sister-in-law Hazel Thompson of Corryton, sister-in-law Virginia G. Watson of Brentwood, nieces and nephew Beth Donahue of Chattanooga, Amy Donahue and Robert Passman of Millville, DE, Stuart and Janice Donahue, Louise Donahue, and Frances Thomspon and Eric Shafferman, all of Corryton. Several great nieces and nephew and many cousins survive. A memorial service will be held at Washington Presbyterian Church on Sunday March 24 at 2:00 pm. Sandra Elaine McBee - September 18, 1942 - March 15, 2024

Obituary Preview: Sandra Elaine McBee, age 81, passed in comfort at home on Friday, March 15, 2024. Preceded in death by her beloved daughter Deana and her parents, Carl and Birdie Pate, she is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of nearly 62 years, Johnny McBee, and their son, Russell McBee, both of Corryton.
She is also survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy Morrison, Marie and Marvin Boruff, Nancy and Terry Dalton, and Betty and Jackie Parker, as well as her dear sister-in-law, Johnny's sister Phyllis Browning and her husband Jerry Browning, all of Corryton and Knoxville. Jerry Browning is also Sandy's first cousin; she always considered him the brother she never had.
She enjoyed travel, especially the many cruises she and Johnny took with their friends over the years. She was a long-time employee of Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center and touched many lives during her career.
The family wishes to express its gratitude to the staff of Covenant Hospice, who provided exceptional care for Sandy during her final weeks at home.
The family will receive friends at Rutherford Memorial United Methodist Church on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, from 4 PM to 6 PM, with the funeral to follow at 6 PM with Rev. Steve Doyal officiating. Family and friends will meet at Clapps Chapel Cemetery at 1:45 PM on Wednesday, March 20, for a 2 PM graveside service and interment.

Elizabeth (Liz) Locke - January 03, 1930 - March 08, 2024

Obituary Preview: Elizabeth (Liz) Locke, 94, a lifelong resident of Knoxville, was born on January 3, 1930, and passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior on March 8, 2024. In honor of Liz friends and family may call at their convenience at Stevens Mortuary between the hours of noon and 6:00 pm on Tuesday, March 12. A graveside service will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, March 13, at Sherwood Memorial Gardens on Alcoa Highway, Knoxville.
Liz was an employee of Tom’s Foods until her retirement, at which time she was able to enjoy traveling to many places throughout the world with friends. In recent years she looked forward to regular visits from the good people who volunteer with Knox County Sheriff’s Office Senior Citizen Awareness Network also known as SCAN, and she grew very close to many of them. Although there were many things she loved doing, the thing she loved most was without a doubt her relationships with friends and family. Without fail she ended every visit or phone conversation with her loved ones by saying “I love you more”, and her life was a testament to that love.
Liz is preceded in death by her husband, Sam, whom she married in 1948 at the age of 18 and lived happily alongside until his death in 1989. Her love for Sam was constant, and her family is comforted with thoughts that they are reunited at last. Together she and Sam had and lovingly raised their son, Steve Locke (Brandi). She was a devoted mother before all else. Liz’s loving heart continued to shine as she doted on her grandchildren, Jonathan Locke (Christie) and Cody Locke. Her love easily extended to include her great-grandchild, Aryana Locke.
In addition to her immediate family, Liz leaves behind her brother, Bob Roth (Cindy), multiple nieces, nephews, and a dear friend, Kathy Callahan, who has been a constant source of loving support and friendship to Liz for many years.
Although she passed from this life, her love continues through her legacy of remarkable kindness, gratitude, generosity, and unfailing love which she extended graciously to everyone she encountered.

Sharon, also known as Grandma and Shron or Shronnie, is survived by her husband of 38 years, Terry L. Monroe, daughters, Emily J. Marcum (Keith) of Mount Juliet, TN, and Tracy M. Patsel (Russell) of Bradenton, FL. Sharon loved being Grandma and doting on her Grandchildren that she loved dearly. Grandchildren are Sarah Jane Marcum, Ethan A. Marcum, Luke R. Marcum and Molly-Jae M. Patsel. Sharon is also survived by Sister in Law and Brother in Law, Melissa Monroe Hodge (Craig) of Knoxville and by her Brothers and Sisters in Law, James R. Dooley Jr. (Suzie) of Wilmington, NC, Richard D. Dooley (Kathleen) of Satellite Beach, FL, John L. Dooley (Wanda) of Myrtle Beach, SC, and William D. Dooley (Janet) of Pensacola, FL and many, many loving nieces and nephews.
Sharon also leaves behind her loving dog Charlie, whom she rescued and was a doting Grandma to for 15 years. Sharon graduated from T. C. Williams High School in Alexandria, VA. She loved music and learned to play the piano at an early age, sang in the church choir and was active in drama and school plays. She was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd in Knoxville, TN and served on the Church Vestry. Sharon worked in the insurance industry her entire career. She worked for Fred S. James Co., Great American Insurance Co. and retired from State Auto Insurance Company where she was recognized in 1998 as Marketing Representative / Underwriter of the Year. Sharon was known and loved for her “big personality”. She loved entertaining and being surrounded by family and friends, as well as spending time with them on the waters of Norris Lake. When her granddaughter, Lindsey, was at Belle Morris, she started The Red Cross Clinic and received the award for best clinic in the Knox area. Later she became the Red Cross Instructor for athletic schools.
She was awarded the Lifetime PTA membership from Belle Morris School. She was a school teacher for Knox Co. for several years. She and Jim worked the elections and were ushers at The Tennessee Theatre for years. She was on The John T. O’Connor Senior Center Advisory Board for six years. Frankie was also a member of the Gift Shop and The O’Connor Ballroom Dance Club. She worked at many fundraisers at the O’Connor Center, Pancake Fest, and Golf Tournament. She and Jim received the John Duncan Award in 2012 for their volunteer work through the years. Frankie was an auxiliary member of FOP Lodge #31. She served as Vice President and Trustee for the lodge and State FOP. She was also owner of Exceptional Tours.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Jim Hicks; parents, Zenna “Doobie” and Gladys Perrin; sisters, Evelyn Perrin of Knoxville, TN, Ruth O’Dell (Tom) of Newport, TN, and Carolyn Comer (David); brother, Mike Perrin (Star) Knoxville; and granddaughter, Talyn Hicks of Knoxville, TN.

Her children Sylvia, Craig (Karen) and Randy (Cindy) Martin mourn and yet celebrate the loving life she led. Along with her children, she leaves precious grandchildren Patrick Berge (Jeanine), Robby Martin, Jessica Martin Delmonico (Nicky), Matt Martin, Alex Martin and Lorrie Martin Place (Tyler), great-grandchildren Barbara Berge, Baker and Reed Place, Emma Kate Delmonico, and niece Jeanne Moquin Guinn (Maurice).
Barbara had a steadfast faith in our Father above. She sang solos at churches, led the choir and taught Sunday School for many years, leaving a lasting legacy with those whose lives she touched. She so enjoyed sports, whether it was coaching or keeping score at Atomic Motor Speedway. We will always remember her incomparable chocolate chip cookies, delicious yeast rolls and her authentic Hungarian paprikash chicken. Her famous roast turkey on Thanksgiving Day was enjoyed by the many who were always welcomed to her table with loving open arms. Among her many accomplishments, she was the operations manager of Atomic Speedway, and the owner-operator of a Baskin-Robbins. We will miss her smile, her beautiful voice, her love and willingness to help. Most of all - we will miss her.

Juliet TN; brother, Samuel Thompson, Antioch TN; and sister, June Boatwright, Louisville TN. Grandchildren, Adrienne (Kenneth) Love, Brentwood TN; April Warren, Alcoa TN; Crystal Dunnings, Dickson TN; and Joseph Trammell, Jr., Knoxville TN, and seven great grandchildren.
Mr. Thompson was an honorably discharged Army veteran, serving in the Korea-era war. He served for several years with the city of Knoxville as a reserve officer before transferring to the Knox County Sheriffs office reserves where he served many years for several different Sheriffs over 20 years.
Mr. Thompson had a strong work ethic and was owner of the Thompson Excavation Company. Mr. Thompson was much loved in his community and enjoyed meeting people everywhere he went.
He was a member of the Greenback Historical Society and participated in program presentations, sharing pictures and genealogy of dozens of families in the Greenback community. He provided historic info that no one else alive knew.
Walter was known for riding around town in his ‘84 Lincoln wearing his cowboy hat with his furry pal and best friend, Cookie, at his side.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, from 12 PM to 1 PM at Stevens Mortuary with funeral service to begin at 1 PM. The service will be officiated by Rev. Churchill Moore. A procession will follow the service to Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Alcoa TN, for a 3 PM graveside service and entombment.
