Allison Claire Johnston - June 08, 1994 - July 13, 2022

Departed: 07/13/2022 (Frederick)
Obituary Preview: Born June 8th, 1994 - went to be with our heavenly Father on July 13th, 2022.
Allison was a 2012 graduate of Walkersville High School. She ran cross country and participated in the Unified Tennis program while there. Upon graduation, she attended the University of Kentucky in their pre-vet program. She worked at the UK dairy while there.  Though she did not complete her degree it started her passion for dairy cows and the dairy industry.  Upon her return to MD she worked on two different dairy farms enjoying her contact with the cows and working in the dairy parlor. She then started a job at the local Tractor Supply store. She quickly moved into a “team lead” position and then assistant store manager.  Within 4 years, she was a store manager and had her own store on Mt. Zion Rd. Allison very much enjoyed family time. She (with family) visited Montana several times, Oregon and Washington, and took 3 cruises, one of which included passing through the Panama Canal. She also loved family camping trips.  She camped many, many times at different camp resorts along the eastern seaboard. Her favorite camping spot was Lake Moomaw in Bath County, VA. This will eventually be Allison’s final resting place.  Along with her passion for cows, she was also very active with brother, Will, in the family chicken/duck/ goose/turkey menagerie.  They always got their birds tested and had large entries in The Great Frederick Fair, usually winning dozens of ribbons. We would call her our “chicken whisperer”.
In February of 2020, Allison was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. This was the beginning of her 2+ year battle with a horrid disease. She fought bravely and with much vigor. Though there was much suffering and many indignities, she never complained. She spent (along with her mother) 2.5 months at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN to remove the tumor and many follow-up surgeries.  Upon her return to MD she completed her recovery at home. She did very well until November of 2021.  The cancer had reappeared in her lungs.  After many treatments at Johns Hopkins, her body could no longer fight. She was very persistent and tenacious throughout treatment. Through it all she never lost her faith in God or passion for all things dairy. Every place that Allison went she touched the people near her.  She started lifelong friendships with many of her care team while at the Mayo.  She also started many friendships while at Sinai Hospital and FMH. Each of her caregivers felt a connection to her.
Allison is survived by her parents, Willy and Donna Johnston, her brother, Will Johnston, several aunts, several cousins and her beloved dog, Socks.
We wish to express special gratitude to Doctor Pete Rose (at the Mayo) and the AOPA. Their help and expertise gave us extra time with Allison that otherwise would not have been possible.

It’s about the friendships I’ve developed for more than 50 years. I have some great buddies. … They didn’t teach me that in school.” In Ron’s younger adult years, he served as the president of the Silver Spring Rotary Club, the Frederick Sertoma Club, Western Maryland CPAs and the Waverley Elementary School PTA. He was on the Board of Directors for MACPA and Sandy Springs Bank. He was also an active member of the Christ Reformed Church in Middletown, MD. He was a natural leader with great vision. In his teens when he delivered newspapers, his customer, Gloria “Stretch” Grossnickle, introduced him to the sport. Golf has been a big part of his life ever since. He loved to organize golf vacations or just get a group of guys together to play. Ron was such a friendly, generous guy with a “take charge” attitude. And, oh my, was he organized! He loved to talk with people. He was known to hire someone to paint his house by chatting with a fellow at the bar. Ron’s typical reply was ”All Good.” His outlook on life was always positive. The world is a better place because of him. He is survived by his two daughters, Leigh Fields (Curtis) and Leslie Gordon (Steve); grandchildren, Bradley, Alicia, Colby, and Spencer Fields, Nicholas and Blake Dougherty, and Reed Gordon; his great grandsons, Damian and Karter Fields, his sister, Nancy Allen (Jim); sisters-in-laws, Betty Moss (Bob) and Peggy Remsberg (Mac) and his significant other, Deborah Zurmuhlen and her family; daughter, Michelle, and grandson, Tyler. Departed: 06/25/2022 (Frederick)
Obituary Preview: Pamela Long Wofford passed away peacefully at her home near Woodsboro, Maryland, Saturday, June 25, 2022, from Alzheimer’s disease. She was 74. Born April 1, 1948, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Pam was the second child of U.S. Sen. Russell B. Long and his first wife, Katherine Hattic Long. She was a granddaughter of Louisiana Gov. and U.S. Sen. Huey P. Long and his wife, U.S. Sen. Rose McConnell Long, as well as Frederick C. Hattic and Rita Rust Hattic.
Pam was an infant when her father was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1948, and the family lived in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C., in her early childhood. During the governorship of her great-uncle, Earl K. Long, the family relocated to Baton Rouge in 1956.
Pam graduated high school in 1966 and then attended Duke University, where she met her future husband, Prescott L. McCardell, who was stationed at Fort Bragg in the Army Special Forces as a Green Beret medic. Following Scott’s service in the Vietnam War, they were married in 1970 in Baton Rouge, and moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where their daughter, Audra McCardell, was born. In 1974, the couple moved to Lexington, Kentucky, where Pam received her Bachelor of Arts, with honors in psychology from the University of Kentucky in 1976.
Pam had a lifelong love of horses that began in her youth on the Louisiana quarter horse show circuit, including a state championship, and culminated in a 40-year career raising and racing thoroughbreds. In Kentucky, she owned and operated Greenfield Farm near Versailles and Roselawn Farm near Danville. Her racehorses achieved success throughout the country, and she was named the most-winning owner at Philadelphia Park Racecourse in the early 1990s.
Following her divorce in 1993, Pam married Dr. Douglas L. Wofford in 1996. They lived in California and Maryland before separating in 2018.
Pam described her years living closer to her daughter’s family on a small farm near Woodsboro, Maryland, as her most spiritually meaningful and impactful. She was a faithful and active member of Thurmont Church of the Brethren, where she co-founded the Grandmother’s Prayers Ministry, which provides spiritual guidance and financial support to young mothers overcoming drug addiction through their participation in the Mountain Manor Safe Harbor Project. This life-changing ministry led by her close friend, the Rev. Linda Lambert, is now a mission of the newly established Mission Point Fellowship at Beaver Dam.
Pam is universally remembered as sweet, good-natured and generous, always smiling, laughing and appreciating the humor in all circumstances. She possessed many exceptional gifts, including a brilliant mind with a flair for creative writing, a love of singing and the ability to instantly memorize and recall music and lyrics. Forever in blue jeans, she was an outstanding horsewoman who preferred the simple pleasures of country living to a life in the limelight. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and a beautiful model of humble Christian faith.
She is survived by her daughter, Audra McCardell Snider and husband Jeremy W. Snider, of Rockville, Maryland; granddaughter, Charlotte Snider; step-granddaughter, Sarah Snider; as well as her Louisiana family, including sister, Rita Katherine “Kay” Long; niece, Katherine Mosely Smith and family; nephew, Russell L.
