She is survived by her loving husband; father, Raymond Guimard; son, Chad Payne; daughter, Rachel (Jason) Voyles; three grandchildren, Bryce (Taylor), Farrah and Ryker Barnes; a great grandchild on the way; Siblings, Fannie Swan of Oregon, Ronnie (Mary) Bitschenauer of Springfield, John (Mary Pat) Earl of Tucson AZ, Michelle (Denny) Moscardelli of Springfield; Brother-in-law, Todd L. Payne and sister-in-law, Diane (Jerry) Casper.

She was preceded in death by her mother and brother, Max Earl.

Cherie retired from St. John’s Hospital after twenty plus years as a unit clerk. She also worked as a waitress for Watt Bros. Pharmacy, B&G Café and part time for Paris Cleaners front desk.

She was a lifelong member of Church of the Little Flower and a proud long time Red Hat Lady. She was a fifty plus years Bunco Club member; a member of St. Teresa Guild of Little Flower Church and a member of Starlite Campers of Jacksonville. She loved the outdoors, gardening in her yard, her diamond art and her grandchildren.

Visitation: 11 am – 1 pm, Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Staab Funeral Home - Springfield.

Funeral Service: 1:00 pm, Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Reverend Al Kemme officiating. Burial will follow at Farmingdale Cemetery.

Richman McHenry and Bert Lippincott (WWII). He married Marlene J. Jochim on July 15, 1955, and she survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Laura C. Chantos of Phoenix, AZ; one son, Kirk E. (Stephanie) McHenry of Athens; five grandchildren, Amber, Austin and Avery Chantos and Ryan and Logan McHenry and multiple great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Arthur McHenry.

He retired from the Champaign Police Department after twenty years of service. He then worked for the Illinois State Police for eighteen years.

Edward was of the Methodist Faith. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Champaign Police Benevolent and Protective Association.

Visitation: 2 – 4 pm, Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at Staab Funeral Home - Springfield.

A second visitation will be held at 9 am until funeral services at 11 am, Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel in Urbana. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign.

Thomas "Tom" A. Spada - September 29, 1946 - May 09, 2024

Obituary Preview: Thomas “Tom” A. Spada, 77, of Springfield, IL passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at Springfield Memorial Hospital. He was born on September 29, 1946 in Chicago Heights to Hugo and Anne Laurie Spada. He married Suzann Cordes on March 28, 1992 and she survives.

Also surviving Tom are his two daughters, Ellen (Red) Siler and Colleen (Rick) Laga, both of Rochester; three grandchildren, Mikayla Siler, Christopher Siler, and Adrianna Robben; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, James Spada.

Tom grew up in Steger, IL and graduated from Bloom Township High School in Chicago Heights. He proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He went on to obtain his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois in Champaign.

Tom eventually moved back to the Chicago area and worked at many hospitals as a medical technologist. He then moved to the Springfield area and worked as an auditor for the IL Department of Revenue, retiring in 2009.

He was an active member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 534 serving as treasurer for over 20 years. He was also a member of VFW Post 10302, American Legion 32 and a member of Rochester United Methodist Church.

Though he was very active in veterans’ organizations, his favorite time was with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also loved cheering on his favorite Chicago teams, the Bears and the White Sox.

Visitation: 10:30 – 12:30 PM, Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 12:30 PM, Tuesday May 21, 2024 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield. A burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors being conducted.

Ron spent most of his life in Springfield and was a 1974 graduate of Lanphier High School.

When not visiting racetracks or casinos, Ron was currently serving as Springfield Township Road Commissioner having first been elected to the position in 2017. Prior to the Township position, Ron retired from the Sangamon County Water Reclamation District.

Cremation will be arranged by Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents and other beloved family members.

Michael grew up in Mason City and was a graduate of Mason City High School. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University while also playing on the university’s basketball team. He obtained his master’s degree in education at Bradley University. He was an educator at Beason and Manito High Schools for several years. He then worked at the Illinois State Board of Education where he served as Education Specialist in the department of recognition and supervision for 29 years.

Michael was an avid fisherman and duck and deer hunter. He enjoyed his yearly excursions to Canada, where he also enjoyed fishing and duck hunting. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and loved the responsibility of being an election judge for many years in his district.

Cremation will be provided by Staab Funeral Home – Springfield and Celebration of Michael’s Life will be announced at a later date.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Emmett Jr., George, Dave and Rockney Fettis; and sisters, Janet Burris, Roberta Fishburn, Judy Vennass, and Cora Sue Fishburn.

Sammy served our country with the United States Marines Corps from 1961 – 1966. He then became an ironworker for Ironworkers Local 46 for many years before retirement. He was an active member of VFW Post 10302 on Stockyard Road and loved visiting with his buddies there.

Cremation will be arranged by Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Graveside Service: 2:00 pm Thursday, May 16, 2024 at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.

Patsy was a strong Christian who believed in Jesus Christ as her Savior and is now walking the streets of gold in heaven. She married Homer G. Flanagan in 1952 and he preceded her in death. She later married William J. Strawbridge and he survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Pamela (Joseph) Klinger of Springfield; three sons, Gary (Darla) Flanagan of Riverton, Jimmie (Becky) Flanagan of Loami, and William (Monica) Flanagan of Riverton; two stepsons, Mark (Teresa) Strawbridge of Springfield and Richard Strawbridge. She had several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Linda Pierceall.

Patsy was an Office Manager for Presney, Kelly and Presney and a bookkeeper for Lincoln Land Title Company. After retirement, she coordinated the Meals on Wheels program through the Senior Services of Central IL and was a bus monitor for the Riverton School District. She was a Past Matron of the Venus Chapter, Order of Eastern Star in Riverton.

Patsy enjoyed gardening, traveling, camping, sewing, and quilting. She truly enjoyed life and loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be deeply missed.

Private services were held with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Loree graduated from Warren Area High School in 1961 and received a BS in Ed. ('74) and MS in Ed. ('76) from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy Submarine Program in 1964 and served as a Nuclear Operator on two Polaris Submarines and completed nine Polaris Patrols.

In 1974, Loree was employed as a Special Education Teacher in the Alton (IL) School District. He was also employed as a Special Education Specialist at Illinois State Board of Education in 1979 and was selected to serve as Executive Director of Illinois Governor's Purchased Care Review Board in 1986. He retired in 1994 and was employed as Business Manager at Willowglen Academy Illinois until 2016.

Loree was a member of Rochester United Methodist Church, United States Submarine Veterans, Inc., and American Legion Post 32, Springfield, IL.

Memorial Gathering: 10:00 am – 12:30 pm, Thursday, May 9, 2024 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

He was preceded in death by his father, Pat Selvaggio and other beloved family.

Joseph was a resident of Springfield for most of his life and attended Springfield High School. He received a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University. He served our country in the United States Navy from 1970 – 1974. After the service, he held many jobs, one of his favorites was teaching welding at CACC and LLCC; also worked for Turis Coal in Elkhart. He then went on to work for CWLP for 23 years as a lineman, then Operations Trouble Clerk before his retirement in 2012.

Joseph was of the Catholic Faith and a member of Church of the Little Flower. He was also a member of LLCC Academy of Lifelong Learning. He loved traveling, especially fly fishing, camping, and was an avid marksman. He loved his family dearly and always enjoyed his time with them, especially his two little granddaughters.

Visitation: 4:00 – 7:00 pm, Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield, beginning with a prayer service.

Funeral Mass: 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at Church of the Little Flower with Rev. Allen Kemme officiating.

Graveside Service: 11:00 am, Thursday, May 9, 2024 at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.

Surviving are his two sons, David (Deborah) Geiger of Murphysboro and Michael (Virginia) Geiger of Springfield; three grandchildren, Grace Geiger of Washington, DC, Joseph (Mary) Geiger of Midland, TX, and Hannah (Jon) Larson of Malcom, NE and three great grandchildren, George, Lydia, and William.

Joseph is a United States Marine Corps veteran having served during WWII. He had retired as an Illinois State Trooper after 29 years of service.

Joe was a master fisherman, a talented wood worker, and an accomplished gardener. Far above and beyond those hobbies, he was a beautiful person whose greatest joy was his family who he loved dearly, and who dearly loved him.

(Robertson) Laurik, 75, of Springfield passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 in Taylorville at her youngest daughter’s home, who lovingly cared for and comforted her mother during her short battle with cancers and multiple metastases. Brenda was born on February 12, 1949, in Madison, Indiana to Gilbert Robertson and Betty Hammond. She married William Russell Laurik on June 5, 1973, and he preceded her in death on June 19, 2017.

She worked for Springfield School District 186 for several years as a teacher aide and assisted with in classroom supervision of children with learning disabilities or behavior issues, as well as secretary assistant to Principals at multiple schools in the Springfield school district.

Brenda was also preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Beverly Jackson, Rex Robertson, Walter Robertson, Judy Gail Robertson and Doretta Kilgore.

Brenda is survived by three daughters, Helena Laurik (fiancé Brian Merreighn) of Lincoln, Katrina Livingston of Springfield and Kristina (Nathan) Joslin of Taylorville; one son, William Matthew Laurik of Oakford; thirteen grandchildren, Kayle, Ian (Alysia), Courtney (Joshua), Rachael (Ryan), Haleigh, Norman III, Alexandria (fiancé Quenton), James (fiancé Morgan), John Paul, Josie, Shyanne, Jarred, and Dalton. She is also survived by her siblings, twin Janet (Jim) Gibson, Patty Lee, Peggy Mellas-Kilgore, Tony (Debbie) Maranto, Robbie (Billie Sue) Robertson, Mary (Frank) Cahill and Brian (Jane) Robertson. She was loved and will be missed by countless great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She also had a wonderful best friend, Shirley Gullo, who she always confided in.

Brenda was a caregiver to many and cared for her mother and her husband until their passing. She was a faithful member of West Side Christian Church. Her sense of peace with cancer was comforted by knowing Christ and being united with her beloved husband, parents, and siblings she so dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one aunt, Aline Crawford.

Barbara was a member of Peter Cartwright United Methodist Church in Pleasant Plains.

She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education; English and Psychology from Eastern Illinois University and her Masters Degree in Human Development Counseling from Sangamon State University (now University of Illinois Springfield), and received her Certification in Secondary Education.

From 1977-1980 she worked for COPE - Adolescent Advancement Advocacy Program as Field Experience Coordinator. From 1980-1981, she worked for Sangamon State University as Continuing Education Coordinator; from 1981-1983 she served as Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Human Services and Sciences Center. From 1984-1992 she was the Assistant Director of Applied Study and Instructor of Experiential Learning. From 1993 she was the Director of Applied Studies/Instructor of Experiential Learning at the University of Illinois Springfield, retiring from this position in 2003.

Barbara was a member of Questers and served on the Board of Prairie Skies Library District.

A woman known for her bright smile and generosity, her legacy will be the footprint she left on this earth in the form of her family.

Tom grew up in Belleville and attended Cathedral High School. After graduation, he enlisted to serve our country with the United States Air Force and served during the Korean War from 1952-1956.

After his service, he met and married his first wife, Dolentine Edwards, who preceded him in death in 1965. He then met Judy Antonacci, and they wed on Sept. 5, 1966. Tom and Judy enjoyed 42 years of marriage together before Judy passed away on Jan. 22, 2009.

Tom worked for Capitol Plumbing and Heating in Springfield and Wilkins Pipe and Supply in Keokuk, IA. He served 40 years between both companies.

Tom was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Macomb and St. James Catholic Church in Riverton. He was active with the Knights of Columbus at both churches and was also a member of the American Legion in Springfield.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; two sisters, Ellen Heidenfelder and Doris Cadmus; and one brother, Roger Forness.

He is survived by his five children, Keith (Jean) Forness of Riverton, Amy (Russell) Schlicht of West Bend, WI, Kurt (Megan) Forness of Springfield, Susan (James) Craddock of Cadiz, KY, and Laura (Erys) Perrine of Madison, WI; seven grandchildren, Chelsea, Kira, Jay, Kate, Jacob, Ben and Sam; and three sisters, Darlene Bietsch of Edwardsville, Mary Ann Ralph of AZ, and Ruth Ann Adams of Springfield. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marilyn lived in Springfield, IL for most of her life. She attended Evelyn Anne Modeling School for one year. She then became a dedicated secretary for Springfield School District 186, serving at Southern View School until retirement in 2004.

She was a long-time member and very active at Springfield Bible Church. Though she enjoyed Springfield, she loved wintering in Florida with Clifford. She was very involved with her family, and they became the highlight of her life.

Obituary Preview: Laurel E.Dickirson died at home in Springfield, Illinois on the morning of April 27th, 2024 at the age of 77. She was born Laurel Walbright on April 17th, 1947, to Dorothy and Elva Walbright in Paducah, Kentucky. She was raised in Joppa, Illinois, by her parents, who were a late-in-life lovematch and doted on her. Her older half-brother, Kenneth Kerr, and all the teachers in Joppa Public Schools doted on her, too. She was first chair clarinet in the school band, president of all the clubs, and valedictorian of her graduating class. Her absolute certainty that she knew better than everybody else in all situations probably grew out of her early experiences as an intellectual giant and rock star student in her hometown.

After high school, Laurel went off to Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. It was there that she threw herself into sex, drugs, and rock and roll of the late 1960s with as much enthusiasm as she had for American Literature. In fact, her dazzling academic career was almost derailed when she got knocked up unexpectedly with her beloved only child, Michelle Loughnane. Laurel was a woman of steely resolve and finished her B.A. and then her M.A. in literature, despite being stalked by a chatty toddler with sticky hands during those years.

Laurel moved to Chicago with ill-considered husband #2 after completing her Master’s thesis at SIU. In the Windy City, Laurel enthusiastically set out to become one of the Cosmopolitan Urban Elite. She dressed like Annie Hall, took her daughter to the ballet and the symphony. They ate out to Indian and Ethiopian restaurants, traveled the country and the world, and learned the difference between a mango and an avocado. She tried to become a high school teacher, but quickly realized that she didn’t really care for children much (except Michelle, of course, who was brilliant and wise beyond her years).

Eventually she got hired by the State of Illinois’ Department of Public Aid, where she had a long and illustrious career managing government cheese programs and other Important Stuff. She was valued by her coworkers and supervisors for her flawless writing, her dazzling intelligence, her dependability, problem solving skills, her genuine devotion to the power of good policy and good government to help people, and her impeccable comedic timing. She really knew how to drop an F bomb to achieve maximum results.

In the course of her work in Chicago, Laurel eventually met Gary Dickirson, who would quickly become Lucky Husband #3. “Third time’s the charm”, she always liked to say. Apparently, she was right, because Gary and Laurel moved to 1308 N. 3rd Street in Springfield and stayed there for the rest of their lives together. They traveled and turned their little house on the North End of town into a Versailles on the prairie, filling it with art and antiques and mementoes of their trips. They took care of their cats: first Maxine, then Ninny, then Thor and Loki, and finally Spirit and Zeus. They took Michelle and her son, Maxwell, to Disney World, the Ozarks, and the beaches of Florida. They threw amazing parties for friends and neighbors who loved to listen to Laurel’s pithy, bourbon soaked bon mots. They helped make their neighborhood a community, and their friends became family. After they stopped traveling, Laurel enjoyed quiet days at home with a good book, a cat on her lap, and a steady supply of weed gummies.

She will be deeply missed by her husband, Gary, her daughter, Michelle, her grandson Maxwell, as well as Amazon, Etsy, Wayfair, and other online retailers.

As she was not a big fan of organized religion or New Age spirituality, the family will be holding a “Celebration of Life” open house at 1308 N. 3rd Street, from 4-7 pm on Saturday, May the 4th. There will be an open bar and a nice dinner buffet because that’s literally the least we can do. Laurel had high standards when it came to hospitality, and most everything else. At 6 pm there will be a brief “Ceremony of Remembrance”, which will probably consist mostly of sad poems, funny stories, and champagne toasts. Survivors include two sons, Alan Miller of Springfield and Barry (Stephanie) Miller of Oxnard, CA; one daughter Lori (Tom) Feger of Springfield; three grandsons, Matthew and Tyler Miller of Oxnard and Alex Feger of Springfield; one granddaughter, Alyssa Feger of Springfield; two sisters, Lavona Knapp of Forest City, MO and Janice Miller of ST. Joseph, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Bobby Miller and one sister, Delores Groves.

Charles was a private and commercial pilot. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and was a loving father, grandfather, friend and husband, for sixty-five years.
