After getting his degree, Specialist Fourth Class John Kutney completed 2 years of basic training for the G-2 Security and Intelligence section of the XXI US Army Corps at Fort Jackson, SC. Upon his release of active duty, John took his first teaching job at the Lower Paxton Junior High School near Harrisburg, PA.
John’s list of teaching and coaching is truly remarkable. John loved being around athletes and students.  He enjoyed watching them grow and pushing them to become more.  It was no surprise that John spent his entire life as an amazing father, coach, teacher, and friend to everyone.
John was a football coach and teacher at Lower Paxton until he became a teacher and the backfield coach at Central Dauphin High school. John taught World Cultures at Williamsport High School for 38 years. During that time, he was the assistant football coach at Williamsport High School from 1966-1969. John made an impact at Williamsport High school even when he wasn’t coaching or teaching. Anyone that knew John, has a story to tell or a memory to share of how John touched their lives or influenced their future on or off the field.  In retirement, you could find John at local sporting events talking with everyone, making everyone laugh and enjoying stories of his teaching and coaching days at Williamsport High. You would often find John taking tickets at the wrestling matches to spend time up on the hill.
Aside from teaching and coaching, John was an amazingly proud father and grandfather. He spent his life at the many sporting events watching his sons and grandchildren. This was his true love. His family. John lived for the next game. Even in his last days, he would talk to the grand kids about their games and when and where they were playing next. He loved taking them fishing and golfing. And just sitting on the deck, drinking a Manhattan with the dogs, telling stories and laughing until their bellies hurt.
John also loved spending time with his friends. Hanging out with the guys at the Legion, Republican club or The Villa. You would find John and his friends golfing, fishing, making peppers, at sporting events.

L. Jean Twigg - November 06, 1935 - April 11, 2022

Departed: 04/11/2022 (Montoursville)
Obituary Preview: L. Jean Twigg
The jams and jellies she made were compared to colorful jewels.
She could have offered a master class on making pies.
She carefully planned the colors and patterns of the afghans she made for her children and grandchildren, wanting to involve them in the selection to make each one as unique as the child who would receive it, crocheting each of the 108 squares with love and piecing them together with the same thoughtfulness she offered each child throughout their lives.  Every crocheted finished product was a work of art.
She was fierce.  Fierce in her offer of friendships and fierce in her defense of her opinions and decisions.
She crossed through the backyards of neighbors to share recipes, cups of tea, concern and lots of laughter.
She offered her love and support without fear of reproach from others. She tried to heal those who were broken and fill voids for people left behind.
The sleepovers, Easter egg hunts, Halloween parties and other events planned for her grandchildren were over the top and to this day create a standard and challenge to provide the same level of fun to new generations.
L. Jean Twigg passed away Monday, April 11, 2022, at her Quaker State Road, Montoursville home.
Jean was the daughter of Earl and Mary Whitner.  Born November 6, 1935, in Zion Grove, PA near her hometown of Ringtown, PA. Jean had good memories of her time in Ringtown and of the surrounding areas of Shenandoah and Mahoney City where her grandmother, aunts, uncles, and cousins lived.  Her family later moved to the Williamsport area, but her heart remained in the region of the state where she was born, so much so that her catered-to and much-loved cocker spaniel was named Shenandoah after the place she loved.
Jean found the love of her life in Jaysburg, and while often in fun said she should have left him in Jaysburg, she was married to Sylvester W. “Skeet” Twigg for sixty-three years before his death in 2015.  She was also predeceased in death by her sister, Alice M. Ferguson and her infant grandson, Russell W. Twigg II.
Together with her husband, Jean raised three sons and a daughter, primarily in the brick home they built on Weldon Street in Montoursville.  She is survived by her sons, Russell W. (Jeanne) of Cascade, Steven S. (June) and Michael E. (Marge) of Montoursville, along with daughter, Kristie A. Smedley (William) of Trout Run. Jean is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Tanya (Anthony) Frey, Brian Twigg, Kristen (Dennis) McConnaughhay, Rusty (Ashley) Twigg, Curtis (Chasney) Twigg, Lauren (Wes) Rauch, Michael (Rachel) Twigg, Miranda Twigg, Kaitlin (Jeremy) Eck with whom she lived, Kristopher (Laurel) Klotz and Keegan (Ashley) Klotz and twenty-two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a faithful sister-in-law, Peggy Twigg of Williamsport.
In 1962, Jean and Skeet were received and raised their children as members of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church.  They later were members of Our Savior Episcopal Church, Montoursville, Christ Episcopal in Williamsport and while on Daufuskie Island, South Carolina attended First Union African Baptist Church. Jean served on the Alter Guilds and volunteered at fund raisers over the years, baking many pies for the Lenten Soup sales at Our Savior and helping with rummage sales at Christ Church.
In younger years, Jean enjoyed hiking and spending time cleaning up the woods around the second home she built with her husband on Quaker State Road. She liked bike riding in Montoursville and exploring while riding her bike on Daufuskie Island where she often vacationed with her husband and family.  She enjoyed traveling to Sea Isle City and Florida, staying in Jupiter, and visiting friends.  Disney and Epcot were a favorite and frequent vacation spot.  For many years she was a member and enjoyed time at the Williamsport Country Club, always including family for holiday events.
Jean also enjoyed working in the company she helped build with her husband.  She travelled to numerous nursing home facilities in Southern PA managing the housekeeping & laundry departments as well as in Williamsport at Rose View and later took on the role of Manager of The Court at Rose View assisted living facility.
Through much of her life, Jean was politically active.  A life-long proud Democrat, she was also involved in the peace movement and attended local rallies to protest war in a prayerful manner that encouraged peace.  With that part of her life in mind, it is asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to World Central Kitchen (donate.wck.org), Christ Episcopal Church at 426 Mulberry Street, Williamsport for their outreach program, or the Lewisburg Prison Project, PO Box 128, Lewisburg, PA  17837.
The family of Jean Twigg lost her to the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s. Please encourage your lawmakers to boost funding for research to find a cure for this disease that rips years away from families.
The Funeral service will be held Monday, April 25 at 10 AM at Christ Episcopal Church, 426 Mulberry Street, Williamsport, PA  17701.
Arrangements are being handled by Spitler Funeral Home, Montoursville.
