Departed: 09/07/2020 (Pittsburgh)
Obituary Preview: Stockman Judith
In the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family, Judy Stockman, age 78, of Plum, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 7, 2020. Born March 6, 1942 in Connellsville, PA, she was the eldest child of Fred and Barbara (Brooks) Kemmerer. Judy and her family eventually settled in Penn Hills, PA where she attended Seneca High School, meeting the love of her life, Bob Stockman. They were married June 6, 1960 and built a wonderful life together, raising five children. Judy worked as a nursing assistant at the former Pittsburgh Hospital before fulfilling her lifelong dream of becoming an RN. She attended CCAC Boyce, was Secretary of her class and graduated with honors. She began her career as an RN on the postpartum unit at the newly established Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville. She was an outstanding nurse, whose dedication and commitment to her patients showed in the love and care she displayed each and every day. She treated all patients equally with the utmost dignity and respect. She was an active member of Unity Community Church, serving as a volunteer at the church's food bank and as a member of the Women's Wednesday night bible study group. She was an avid sports fan and could hold her own while discussing baseball, football and hockey. She loved to read and especially enjoyed reading The Post Gazette front to back. She was a member of the Tri-Drive women's bowling league at Nesbit Lanes in Plum and enjoyed all genres of music. Her and Bob had a close circle of friends with whom they enjoyed traveling and going out to dinner with. They also belonged to a couples card club. Judy and Bob enjoyed yearly trips to Florida, cruising and Disneyworld, but their happiest times were those spent with their children and grandchildren. Whether at the ballfields watching their granddaughters play softball or attending dance recitals and musicals, to basketball games, dek hockey, bowling, soccer games and football, they were always there to cheer them on. They also served as the best pet sitters for their grandpups, Charlie and Sadie. They most recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 6, 2020. Judy lived a full and beautiful life and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents Barb and Fred Kemmerer, sister Karen Karr and brother Don Kemmerer. She will be forever missed by her loving husband Bob and their children, Cheryl (Chuck) Pazman, Terri (Chip) Nicholas, Bob, Jeff (Debbie) and Mark Stockman along with Mark’s former wife, Cathy Schultz. She was the adored and beloved Grandma/Gaga to Christina (Jimmy) Mease, Michelle (Candice) Bowman, Alyssa (Cheech) Andreoli, Victoria (Erik) Stefancic, Alexa Nicholas, Jeffrey, Joseph and Jonathan Stockman, Cody Stockman and Jacqueline Stockman. Great Grandma to Gianna and Gino Mease and Savanna and Anthony Stefancic. She is also survived by her loving sister Barbara (James) Drummond, brother Mark (Barb) Kemmerer and sister-in-law Sandra (Jay) Ware, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends received Thursday, 1-4 and 6-9pm at Soxman Funeral Homes, Ltd./Roth Chapel, 7450 Saltsburg Road (at Universal Road) Penn Hills, where a service will be held, Friday, 11:00am. Due to COVID-19 and present restrictions on gatherings, guests attending visitation may be asked to wait to enter the building. Additionally, properly worn face masks are required. Interment in Plum Creek Cemetery. The family wishes to thank Heartland Hospice, especially Christine, Amy, Kim and Mandy for the love and care they showed, as well as the support from her dear friend Karen Conners and her church family. To best honor Judy, family suggests donations be made to an animal charity of your choice.

Thomas E. Cassidy - December 03, 1932 - August 29, 2020

Departed: 08/29/2020 (Pittsburgh)
Obituary Preview: Thomas E Cassidy, December 3, 1932 - August 29, 2020
Thomas Edward Cassidy, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and retired Marine, died Saturday August 29. The Plum Borough resident was 87.
Tom developed a passion for sports at a young age. He was inducted into his high school sports hall of fame at St. Vincent’s Prep in Latrobe, Pennsylvania for his accomplishments on the baseball, basketball, and football teams. He received a scholarship to play on the Pennsylvania State University baseball team and was a walk-on defensive back on the school’s football team. After college, he joined the Sheet Metal Workers Union and began his career as a tradesman. During the Korean War, he enlisted in the Marines and became a sergeant, earning the National Defense Service and Marine Corps Good Conduct Medals. While in the Marines, he completed airman school and worked as an aviation structural mechanic.
After proudly serving his country, Tom dedicated his life to his family and his community. Tom was a man of conviction and held various leadership titles in his career and within civic organizations. He liked to be in charge, and he was a legend within his family. A long-standing member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union, he served 40 years in Local Union 12. He was also one of the founders in the Plum Borough American Legion where he could be found watching his beloved Steelers and conversing with members. Tom co-founded the Plum Midget Football League, coaching many of his sons’ teams to victories, and organized wheelchair basketball for those with disabilities in the community.
Tom was a force of nature and a man of his word, always speaking his mind and giving a voice to the voiceless. In the words of his youngest granddaughter, Cailee Bea, he was “a tough cookie.” Tom loved everything Irish, especially his Irish coffee and Notre Dame. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing with his sons and friends and tending to his garden. Mostly, Tom was a proud family man. His legacy will live on in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as well as through the many people of Plum Borough whose lives he touched during his nearly nine decades.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Beatrice Cassidy, and six children Julie Rhyner, Tim Cassidy, Dan Cassidy, Michael Cassidy, Leigh Harkleroad and Stephen Cassidy. His grandchildren, Nadine, Karac, Ryan, Steve, Matt, Luke, Erin, Megan, Sean, Michelle, Katie, Paula, Kyle and Cailee Bea. His great grandchildren, Jax, Callan, Charlie, Cameron, Mirabelle, Connor, Wyatt, Dominic, Moses, and Kamryn, adored him. He was predeceased by his grandson Tom Dern.
