Michael D. Henley - May 26, 1951 - March 25, 2024

Departed: 03/25/2024 (Fairburn)
Obituary Preview: Michael David Henley May 26, 1951 - March 25, 2024 Mike was born and grew up in Houston, Texas, with his sister Dara, and father and mother, Martin Ellis and Laura Myrtis Henley. Mike was protective of his sister, and Dara thought he was “the best big brother.” After high school Mike attended Ambassador College in Big Sandy, Texas. When Darlene started at Ambassador in fall of 1970 they dated, and soon after he told his father, “I’ve met the girl I’m going to marry!” They married in 1974 and together raised
two daughters, Brandy and Brittany. Following college, Mike worked as a ministerial trainee for his church for a year, then began a career in sales which started with a machining company in Columbus, Georgia and continued with marketing and communications businesses he built. After retiring from that 15 years ago, he became a tax preparer, a part-time job he enjoyed, working
with many clients year after year. As a boy Mike enjoyed outdoor sports, a love that continued throughout his life. From high school track and football to hunting, fishing, dirt bike riding, scuba diving and finally golf, Mike pursued a variety of activities. Since much of what Mike did was an “all-out” pursuit, there are plenty of stories: getting stuck on a sandbar in Lake Seminole on a duck hunt … too many deer-hunting exploits to count! ... dirt-bike rides that ended in emergency rooms … rowing boats back to shore from the Gulf after engine failures …spear-fishing barracuda and facing a jaw-snapping fish when he missed … his first hole-in-one on #13 at Maple Ridge (and he got a second some years later 😉 … hitting balls out of the water, or pushing a golf cart out of the mud and getting soaked ... He relished those times with friends, and most of all with his daughters — saltwater fishing on the flats in the Gulf was a rite of passage for both! — and his favorite golfing partners
were his kids. Mike’s faith in Christ was strong. He thanked God often for His plan in his life and for the many blessings he enjoyed — the greatest being his family. He was proud of his daughters’ and sons-in-law’s accomplishments (he referred to all of them as “his kids”) and bragged on them often to anyone who would listen! Mike will be remembered with much love by his wife, Darlene; daughters and sons-in law Brandy and Justin Huot and Brittany and Warren Woolfolk; granddaughters Sabrina Milan Mosto and Henley Grace Woolfolk; sister Dara Henley; brother-in-law Douglas Brown; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Family and friends will gather for a
Celebration of Life at Coweta Club in Newnan, Georgia on April 27.
