Departed: 04/19/2024 (Marietta)
Obituary Preview: Ann passed peacefully at home late last night. Just a few weeks shy of her 88th birthday.
I was going through pictures and found Grams’ baby book. Here is the entry on the last page written by her mother (my great grandmother). “We celebrated Ann’s 8th birthday last week. We went to town and got her ring she’d been looking forward to. We took 6 to the park and had a swell picnic. Ann received $4.50, books and candy. At 8, Ann is very small and very sweet. Always wanting to be of use and helpful. I could not finish Ann’s book on her 7th birthday. But on this, May 23rd, I shall have to close her baby years and watch her grow up. All the joy she has given me these last 8 years can’t be expressed. My only wish is that her life may always be just as happy, sweet, and lovely as it is now. To me, she’ll always be my darling little girl. Love, Mother”
I think it’s safe to say my great grandmother got her wish. My grandma had a long and happy life filled with love and adventure ❤️ She was one of my best friends and it was an honor to care for her and help her into this next journey. Born and raised in Atlanta with her 3 siblings. In 1958, Ann graduated from the University of Georgia before marrying Henry Hartsfield Carter. The couple enjoyed 43 years of marriage and had two children, Greg and Lauren. Ann lived all over the country: Dallas, Cincinnati, Tampa, but her favorite place (and where she said she left her heart) was San Francisco.
