Juanita Marie Hancock - September 27, 1955 - May 03, 2024

Departed: 05/03/2024 (Tomah)
Obituary Preview: Juanita Marie Hancock, 68, of Warrens, WI, passed away on May 3, 2024, after years of cognitive decline leading to dementia.
Juanita, or Nita as she was known to most, was born on September 27, 1955 to Forrest and Joy Hart in Tomah, WI. She was the middle child of five siblings. Nita was a 1973 graduate of Tomah High School. She then went on to marry and have children. Nita and Richard T. Hancock were wed on July 12, 1980. They had three children, Michelle Gebhardt (Randy), Randy Hancock, and Nicole Steen (Benjamin).
Nita was a loving wife and mother. Her children and husband would come home from school and work to a tidy house and a home cooked meal. Nita enjoyed baking and she was as sweet as her sweet tooth. She loved chocolate chip cookies, and there was ALWAYS a bag of Hersheys Kisses with almonds in the house. Nita was primarily a homemaker, but she also helped with the family moss farming business in various ways such as bookkeeping and moss packaging.
At age 43, Nita became a grandmother to Riley Hancock and welcomed another grandson, Reese Gebhardt, four and a half years later. She excelled at being Grandma! She was the classic grandma always having treats in the house, spoiling her grandkids, and loving them unconditionally.
Nita was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma at the age of 53. She underwent chemotherapy, which caused irreversible cognitive impairment, but left her cured of cancer. Just over two years later, Nita became a grandmother once again to two beautiful girls, Maddie Gebhardt and Sage Steen.
Nita was an avid scrapbooker, creatively putting her life experiences to paper. As a quiet and patient person, she delighted in putting together jigsaw puzzles. She appreciated flowers and took to flower gardening. Nita enjoyed shopping while her husband played chauffeur. Her favorite thing to do was spend time with her family. The end of Nita’s life was difficult, but her husband Richard devoted his days and nights to caring for her. Nita’s family is deeply saddened by her loss, but know she is now free of suffering. We miss you so much!
Nita was predeceased by her father and her younger sister Pamela Rezin. She is survived by her mother, her husband, her three children, her four grandchildren, her siblings Wayne Hart, Cindy Lambert (Douglas), and Laurie Stonger, and several nephews and nieces.

Departed: 04/30/2024 (Tomah)
Obituary Preview: Myrna E. (Zirk) Fauska, 86 of Kendall passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at her home. She was born on April 10, 1938, to Herbert and Grace (Sweet) Zirk in St. Paul, MN. Growing up, Myrna would spend her summers with her grandparents on the Zirk family farm. After high school, she attended Wartburg College, Waverly, IA. Upon graduation she returned to the St. Paul area working as a social worker for the State of Minnesota. On October 9, 1971, Myrna was united in marriage to David C. Fauska. Myrna took a leap of faith motivated by love and adventure transitioning from a young city girl to country girl. It was in that country living that Myrna immersed herself in the role of a farmer’s wife and an active member within the Kendall Community. A faithful and devoted member of Evangelical Free Church of Kendall, Myrna was an active participant in many church activities, assisting with funeral meals and bookkeeping were just a few of the many.
Being blessed with a beautiful singing voice, Myrna shared her love of music and singing with the world. Often singing for church services and functions, funerals, weddings and just about any time she was giving the opportunity. She was a member of the Sweet Adeline’s along with other local singing groups. Throughout the years, Myrna worked part-time as a rural mail carrier, often assisted with the local elections. She was a member of the Kendall Happy Homemakers and a member of the Red Hat Society. Myrna was also an avid reader and writer. She was a frequent visitor to the Kendall library and a Book Club member. For several years, Myrna was an author of South Side News, keeping the local folks up to date on local news in the valley. In her last article, Myrna shared, “Once upon a time, I read somewhere that when you are experiencing good things in life, it is a blessing to know Who to thank. Another little saying is when life hands you sour lemons, make lemonade. No matter what happens to us, God will see us through if we put our faith and trust in Him. I have been known to ask the Lord for patience and do it NOW! His answers aren’t always as immediate as I want them to be, but I’ve found that when I look back on the past 86 years, His blessing far outnumber anything else. Another saying I’ve learned is that whatever the question is, Jesus is the answer. In all circumstances, praise the Lord.”
As for today, Myrna is walking in Paradise.
She is survived by 9 nieces and nephews, countless great nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, Darlene Martalock of Ontario and Margery (Joe) Collins of Black River Falls, and a special friend, Christopher Young.

As a kid, Dad discovered his love for life in the country. He rarely missed an opportunity to visit Grandma Helen’s farm, bale hay at Von Haden’s or travel to Tunnel City just to talk about the most recent deer hunt. He spent some time welding wood stoves, stoking fires at Ft McCoy, working for Union Camp and always had a love for cutting wood.
Dad lived South of Tomah on a dead-end road surrounded by acres of peace and quiet. He was a simple man who didn’t want fancy things; he always “lived within his means”. Cows were one of his passions and we could always find him reading a bull book. The man was a capsule of knowledge that remembered pedigrees and EPD’s from 20 years ago.
Dad had a love for hunting and the comradery it provided. He loved to tell a good deer story and head to Deano’s Garage to get “The Report”. He hunted his whole life and never shot a big buck, until he got sick. The last 2 years he finally bagged the trophy deer he was always searching for; he said “The Big Guy knew his time was running out and threw him a bone”. His last trophy hunt was shared with Grandson Tate. Tate was actually able to successfully “sneak” Grandpa’s deer head into the Serenity House.
Recently, Dad found joy in reloading ammunition and it turned into a family ordeal. Maranda spent many hours learning about ammunition just to order more supplies. Hours before he moved into the Serenity House he reloaded a box of shells with Zac just so he could pass the torch and teach him the right way to do things.
Being from Wisconsin he loved watching the Packers. In October of 2022, he finally made the journey to Lambeau Field with Kevin, Maranda, Katherine, Zac, Jenn, Ivan, and Tate. Dad was so happy to have this opportunity.
Summer of 2021, we found out Dad was sick and our lives were forever changed. On July 13, 2022, we finally received confirmation of our worst nightmare - Pancreatic Cancer. We knew early on we wouldn’t have much time and we started preparing ourselves and started making memories. Initially, Dad was given 6 months, and here we are almost 2 years later, only proving what a stubborn fighter he really was. Maranda and Zac made sure he never went to a doctor’s appointment alone. Dad was an independent proud man who lived on his own until the very end. He decided he wasn’t safe at home anymore and moved into the Serenity House 5 short days before he lost his battle to “The Beast”.
Dad was a talker and no matter where he went he could make a friend and talk…probably for hours. If you had a conversation with Dad, there is no doubt, you knew how proud he was of his family. He was a proud dad to Maranda and Zac; and there is no denying his greatest pride and joy are the ones that call him Grandpa.
Grandpa was his greatest title. Ivan, Katherine, Tate, and Caroline already miss their Grandpa immensely. Christmas meant so much to him and he worked so hard to make Christmas special for the kids. One of his favorite things to do was place the gifts under his pink tree in just the right spots and watch their faces light up when they walked in and saw the tree. The last few Christmases were extra special. He spent days and miles traveling with Uncle Kevin to find “just the right guns” for everyone. Dad was sentimental and put so much thought into every gift he ever gave. From guns for Zac and David, meaningful prints for Maranda and Jenn, matching guns for the grandkids, Golden Boys for Ivan and Tate and diamond earrings for Katherine and Caroline…every single gift given was perfect.
Ivan and Grandpa had a special bond. Ivan spent many hours in the house hanging with Grandpa eating snacks while Zac checked cows. Grandpa found so much joy in watching Ivan play hockey.
Katherine, “Gracie”, made her Grandpa so proud with her sheep showmanship abilities. He loved hanging out in the barn watching her shear sheep and practice with the fair animals. Grandpa also took it upon himself to personally buy her new softball equipment every year.
Tate, “Taters”, and Grandpa shared a hunting stand. One can only imagine the conversations that they shared in that stand. They spent hours in the woods and this last November bagged a trophy buck.
Caroline, “The Lion”, and Grandpa shared their love of silly jokes. Grandpa was known for showing up with Lion Biscuits on the weekends. He found great joy in the shenanigans and laughter she brought to his life.
Dad was always there, never missing a single activity. He will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved him. While we have lost our dad, many have lost a friend and loved one in him.
He is survived by his daughter Maranda (David) Schreier of Sparta and a son Zacry (Jenn) Pierce of Bangor, four grandchildren Ivan, Katherine, Tate and Caroline, his mother Lois Pierce of Tomah, a sister Phyllis (Gerald) Olsen of Wyeville, brothers Wes (Julie) Pierce of Warrens and Kevin (Linda) Pierce of Warrens, special friends that are like family Josh (Krysta) Bever, Tiffany (Chad) Pergande, Kyle and Megan Seichter, Ryan Seichter and Bob (Shawn) Whaley. Many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wilmer “Jack” Pierce.
The entire family extends a heartfelt thank you to “The Girls” at the Infusion Center, Michelle with Palliative Care, the staff at UW Health, and the entire staff of the Serenity House. There are not enough Thank You’s in the world for helping us earn more time with Dad.
His request is that everyone wear jeans and a t-shirt in support of an organization that you love; it doesn’t matter if it’s hockey, basketball, football, 4-H or show choir.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, 11:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church, 1105 Butts Ave. Pastor Claudia Deede will officiate. Burial will be in the Greenfield Cemetery, Tunnel City.

Mary Jane Parkhurst - February 14, 1931 - April 06, 2024

Departed: 04/06/2024 (Tomah)
Obituary Preview: Mary Jane Parkhurst, 93 of Elroy passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2024, in Tomah. She was born on February 14, 1931, to Clyde and Annie (Blaha) Winchel in Vernon County. Mary was a person of high integrity and was never afraid to “tell things as they are.” Although she could be very stern at times,
Mary was quick to laugh and enjoyed the simple life. Mary was an excellent cook and took particular pleasure in baking, especially cookies and sweet treats. If you stopped by her house for a visit or a meal, you left pumped full of food. She never accepted the phrases, “I’m full” or “I can’t eat another bite.”
Mary often spoke of how lucky she was to have good neighbors that looked out for her in later years. She had fond memories of the many trips and excursions she took with friends.
Mary was a long-term member of the Helpful Homemakers club where she made and kept many lifelong friends. Mary loved gardening. Her gardens were often large enough to have their own zip codes. There was never a more suitable
adversary to a Wisconsin garden weed than Mary. She would work from sunup to sundown beating those weeds into submission.
Mary loved keeping track of her family. She probably single-handedly kept the greeting card companies and the USPS in business by sending cards and letters for all occasions. She knew everyone’s birthday, anniversaries, and favorite foods.
But her greatest love of all was her husband, Jim, whom she met when she was 16. They raised 3 children and stayed happily married 73 years until his death.
Jim and Mary were inseparable. In the early 70’s, Mary went to work drilling wells by Jim’s side for the next 20 odd years. They enjoyed stopping for breakfast, lunch and sometimes supper at various restaurants to visit with friends. Mary often spoke of being “the young kids in the valley” when they first moved into their forever home and then after a blink of an eye, became “the old farts of the valley.”
In conclusion, both Mary and Jim were as one. They grew up together, raised a family together, grew old together and will now spend Eternity together. They will be missed.
Mary was survived by her children, Randy (Sandy) and Debbie Parkhurst, grandchildren, Guy Parkhurst, Nichole Pergande, Gina Flister, Joel Yoakum, Jeremy Yoakum, and Erin Root, 15 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. She is further survived by a sister Myrtle Melvin and a brother, Frank Winchel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Lorna, siblings, Marlene Baldwin, Mildred Olson, Margaret Eckelberg, Marcella Calhoun, Marlyce Revels, Connie Brueggeman, Harold, John, Ronald and Richard Winchel.
A Celebration of Life gathering for Jim and Mary will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024, 12PM Noon until 2PM at the Kendall Community Hall, 219 W South Railroad St. Kendall.
