Departed: 05/12/2024 (Mansfield)
Obituary Preview: Tami Lynn Simms, aged 65, of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, May 12, 2024, which was Mother's Day—a fitting day to remember a woman who dedicated her life to being a loving mother.
Born on June 3, 1958, in Mansfield, she was the daughter of Fred Eugene Hout and Willamae (Kennison) Hout. Throughout her life, Tami held various jobs in the community, including positions at the post office and cleaning offices. However, her true calling was that of a mother and homemaker. Tami's greatest joy was caring for her three children, creating a loving and vibrant home filled with activities like trips to the zoo and visits to family. She ensured her children had a beautiful childhood filled with adventure and love.
Tami had a passion for shopping, particularly for shoes, and could often be found finding deals at Walmart. She also loved dogs, especially her sweet rescue, Ginger, who will soon await a new home at the Richland Co. Humane Society (if anyone feels a tug on their heart to adopt Ginger, please contact them!). Tami turned her apartment building into a tight-knit community, frequently assisting her neighbors with errands and fostering a spirit of togetherness.
Her role expanded joyfully to that of a grandmother, a title she cherished deeply. Tami quit smoking the moment she became a grandmother, illustrating her enduring commitment to her family's wellbeing. Her grandchildren brought her immense joy, and she relished the role with all her heart.
Tami's memory will be cherished by her children, James Benjamin II, Chadwick Benjamin, and Teasha Benjamin (and her boyfriend Jarvis Stanford), all of Mansfield. She was a proud grandmother to James "Juice" Benjamin III, Miles Benjamin, Adriana Parsons, Willie Mollett, T'Shiona Benjamin, and Jayla Stanford. Gary Michael Lynne Utt, IV - March 05, 2024 - March 05, 2024

Departed: 03/05/2024 (Mansfield)
Obituary Preview: Gary Michael Lynne Utt, IV, fondly known as "Little Buh" by his loving parents, Gary Michael Lynne Utt, III and Karlie Ann (Baker) Utt, embarked on his journey into this world and departed on March 5, 2024, at 12:27 PM at Summa Health System - Akron Campus. His brief but impactful presence touched the hearts of all who knew him.
Born to Gary and Karlie Utt of Mansfield, G4's entry into the world was met with both joy and sorrow. In November, at just 15 weeks old, his parents received the heartbreaking news of abnormalities that would limit his time with them. Despite this, his parents, Karlie and Gary, III, remained resilient, focusing on creating cherished memories during Karlie's pregnancy by reading books to him every night.
Gary III and Karlie were married June 10, 2023, and were eager to grow their family. Both graduates of Madison High School with the Class of 2016, they weren’t high school sweethearts, but they were both voted “Most Likely to be in a Reality TV Show.” Karlie was brimming with excitement as she shared the news with Gary—they were expecting! Coincidentally, this joyous revelation unfolded on the very first day of Karlie's new school year.
Karlie, a dedicated 9th and 10th-grade English teacher at Madison Comprehensive High School, sought to find meaning in her son's brief yet impactful life. Recently, she shared with her students through a colleague that she had carried the knowledge throughout her pregnancy that her son would not likely live to adulthood or even childhood. This revelation served as a profound lesson in resilience for her students, who had eagerly awaited the arrival of her baby without knowing the challenges she faced. It serves as a poignant reminder for all of us to practice kindness, as we never truly understand the struggles others may be enduring.
G4's arrival was eagerly anticipated by his grandparents Gary & Lola Utt and Matt & Renee Baker. He was the first grandchild for all, promising moments filled with love and affection. His paternal grandparents looked forward to showing him the best band ever, the Grateful Dead, and both sets of grandparents looked forward to doting on him. His parents, dreaming of teaching him life's wonders, nicknamed him "Little Buh'' and his dad especially dreamed of the day he might take him camping and fishing. The beloved family dog Chubb was destined to be Little Buh’s best friend and the family cats Chicken and Poe complete the family.
Karlie had many cravings during pregnancy including lots of sour candy, and at other times slushies, pasta, and pickles, but they joked he must have been a vegetarian because she never felt good after eating meat! While many expectant parents fixate on the gender of their child, G4's parents fervently prayed for the arrival of a healthy baby. Harold Dalton Myers - June 08, 1922 - March 01, 2024

Departed: 03/01/2024 (Mansfield)
Obituary Preview: MANSFIELD, OH - Harold Dalton Myers, on March 1, 2024, at the age of 101. Harold, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend, left us peacefully from Lexington Court Care Center, surrounded by the love of his family—his wife and both sons by his side.
His family hopes you take a moment privately to celebrate Harold's life, reflecting on the incredible journey of a man who, from the battlefields of Europe to the quiet streets of Mansfield, made an indelible mark on the hearts of those he touched.
Born on June 8, 1922, in Morrow County, Harold's early years in Lexington, Ohio laid the foundation for a lifetime of diligence, service, and compassion. A 1940 Lexington High School graduate, Harold's journey was interrupted by the call of duty, leading him to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II. His experiences in Nazi-occupied France and in England, where he witnessed both the devastation of war and the resilience of the human spirit, profoundly shaped his outlook on life.
Following his military service, Harold returned to Mansfield, resuming work at Mansfield Tire and Rubber, where he met his beloved wife, Margaret Briggs. Their marriage May 28, 1950 blossomed into a partnership of unwavering support and shared devotion, enriched by the joys and challenges of raising a family, including two sons, Dan & John, and a daughter, Ellen.
Harold's career spanned over seven decades, demonstrating an unparalleled work ethic and a commitment to providing for his family. Even after retiring, Harold's zest for life and desire to contribute saw him working until the age of 90, leaving a legacy of dedication and hard work. Mansfield Tire and Rubber was his first job where he worked for 37 years as an Accountant, G&L Supply he worked part and full time a combined 48 years, and Interstate Optical was his retirement job where he worked for 20 years.
A man of deep faith and optimism, Harold's ability to see the good in every situation and his relentless positivity impacted everyone he met. His recent 100th birthday celebration, marked by over 11,000 birthday cards from well-wishers worldwide, underscored the vast reach of his influence and the collective appreciation for his remarkable life story. Harold was privileged to take an Honor Flight recognizing his service and creating new memories.
He was a member of Linden Road Presbyterian Church since 1957 and served as a deacon. He was an avid reader—especially about WWII—and engaged in public speaking about the war to high schools and universities. Harold enjoyed golf despite having a short backswing. He also liked cars (particular fond memories of his ‘67 white Mercury Cougar with a blue interior) and kept his lawn pristine. Harold really cared about others and was generous and giving. Harold's legacy is not only in the historical moments he lived through but in the everyday moments of kindness he showed to those around him.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 74 years, Margaret Myers of Mansfield, OH; his sons Dan (Debbie) Myers of Dublin, OH and John Myers of Columbus & Mansfield, OH; grandchildren, including Dan (Kayla) Smith of Ontario, OH, who orchestrated the heartwarming birthday surprise, Bradley (Val) Myers of Powell, OH, Dr. Sarah Myers of Pittsburgh, PA; great-grandchildren Roza Smith and Vivien Myers; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Harold was preceded in death by his daughter Ellen Smith whom they lost to cancer in 2008; grandson Matt Myers in 2023; his younger brother and sister-in-law Don & Betty Myers; and parents Glenn Sherman Myers and Edna May (Dawson) Myers.
The family plans to hold a private viewing with burial at Shauck Cemetery in Johnsville, Ohio. Snyder Funeral Homes, Marion Avenue Chapel is honored to serve the Myers family. Share a memory of Harold at SnyderFuneralHomes.com

Lyn enjoyed playing the clarinet in the high school band and soon attended Bowling Green University where she met her life partner James “Jim” A. Baker (deceased in 2020). Lyn and Jim married on August 25, 1962. The couple moved to Bloomington, IN where Jim pursued an MBA from Indiana University during which time the family grew to three. Jeff was born in 1965. Upon graduation, they moved to Bexley, OH where Jim was employed by City National Bank. Their next stop, Westerville, OH, was where Scott (1967) and Danny (1970) were born. As Lyn had her hands full with three boys, Jim was promoted to branch manager of the bank and met an interesting man, Tom Patterson, who invited the family to his camp in the North Channel of Lake Huron, Ontario, Canada.
During their stay in Mansfield, Tom Patterson offered to sell his camp in Canada. Jim and Lyn organized the purchase with their dear friends Don and Betty Kieft. They bought the camp in 1982 and spent every chance they could to clean up, maintain, and build life-long friends ever since. Lyn absolutely loved the serenity and relationships that camp afforded.
In 1975, Lyn and her family moved to Mansfield, OH and in 1982, decided to finish her Bachelor’s degree in English from the Ohio State University. Soon after Jim’s career moved their family to Poland, OH where Lyn advocated and volunteered for the local Planned Parenthood chapter and sat on the board of the Butler Institute of Arts. After Jim’s short stint as the president of James Madison Holding Corporation in Washington, D.C., he moved his family back to their beloved Mansfield and became the Vice President of Marketing and Development of MedCentral Hospital.
Lyn and Jim lived the rest of their lives in Mansfield filled with life-long friends. Lyn was a devout volunteer and served at the Mansfield Academy of the Arts and Mansfield Art Center for many years. She even worked at Critter Castle, a local pet shop owned by her oldest son, Jeff where she enjoyed the people much more than the critters. She was heavily involved at Grace Episcopal Church serving several stints as Senior Warden and volunteering weekly at the church’s food pantry. Lyn was always a friendly face and saw people for their true self.
As an avid reader, Lyn enjoyed getting lost in a great book. And… was always determined to finish even a not-so-great book, often with a glass of buttery chardonnay. She appreciated the beauty of nature that her husband, Jim, so loved - from Arabian horses, to exotic orchids, to woodland cabins while committed to persevering their neatness. Lyn enjoyed traveling the world with Jim, as they loved exploring different cultures and meeting new people. They spent their retired summers at their rustic camp in the Bay of Islands, Canada with a community of friends like no other.
Lyn was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved all the dogs throughout her life from Pomeranians to Cairn terriers to Labradors to Labradoodles and everything in between, especially her surviving Labradoodle, Moxie. Lyn’s sense of humor uplifted her through hardship, even to her last days. Throughout her illness, she was deeply grateful for the companionship of the wonderful nurses at the OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital Infusion Center. Her fiery spirit lifted her as the matriarch of her family which, lucky for them, lives on through her four strong granddaughters.

Obituary Preview: Daniel Lee Gopp, a man who couldn’t sit still, a soldier with honor, a husband of 57 years, a father, and 'Grandpa Dan' – his life's story is a rich tapestry woven with threads of love, commitment, and protector of his loved ones. From the halls of New Philadelphia High School to the pews of the First Congregational Church in Mansfield, Dan's journey reflected a remarkable blend of athletic prowess, military valor, community service, and above all, a deep and abiding love for family.
Dan was born on July 2, 1947, in Dover, Ohio to Albert and Hope (Pake) Gopp, he embraced life with a spirit of adventure and selflessness. A proud Vietnam Army veteran, Daniel served with distinction and later retired from Empire Detroit Steel. After retiring, he took a job at Wagner Hardware where he worked until it closed. He came out of retirement again to work at Kroger until his first debilitating stroke in 2006. His heartwarming love story with Barbara Metzger began when they were just kids, and they were married May 13, 1967. A member of the First Congregational Church in Mansfield, in younger years he drove the church bus for various events and extended his generosity beyond, driving bus for Friendly House, the school, the YMCA/YWCA—where he also served as a Tribe Leader for Indian Guides—and more. As an only child, Dan was thrilled to have three children who got to grow up together: Wendy, Brian, and Abbey, and he liked to get on the floor and play with them like he was a kid too.
An avid Jimmy Buffett fan and lover of Margaritaville, Daniel brought joy wherever he went with his jovial and ornery nature. His passion for activities like fishing, golfing, and bowling, as well as his dedication to coaching Little League and flag football, showcased his vibrant spirit. From Vietnam to coaching, he remained a protector and a giver.

He volunteered for Lake Erie Communications as a corner guard for Mid-Ohio Race Track, played on the Police Athletic League softball team, and helped train police canines. He taught his kids to serve their community not through words, but through his actions.

With a camper in tow, he created enduring memories, infusing each excursion with his trademark enthusiasm. Whether perfecting his putt-putt skills, competing fiercely, or simply relishing the camaraderie, camping became a cherished chapter in his life story.
