Obituary Preview: Elva “Deetze” Mae (Burkett) Crosswaite, 83, of Reynoldsville, PA, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2022, while a patient at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital. She was born on January 7, 1939, to the late Charles and Emma (Himes) Burkett in Burkett Hollow, Punxsutawney, PA. She graduated from Punxsutawney High School with the class of 1956. Elva was a hard worker and had an extensive work history, she worked for the Belgian Consulate and Penelec both of Punxsutawney. While working at Penelec, through the window of the business, she caught the eye of Leon Crosswaite, who went inside and asked her if she wanted to join him for a walk. Leon and Elva shared a deep love for each other and were married on April 4, 1959, in Worthville, PA. Leon preceded her in passing on April 19, 2019, after sixty love filled years of marriage. Elva also worked for BFGoodrich making golf balls, and for the office of psychiatrist, Dr. Adam, as a secretary, both of DuBois. She eventually began working in Reynoldsville and managed the dental office of Dr. Means, as well as acting as dental assistant. She stayed at the practice after its transition of ownership to Dr. Earley, where she remained for more than ten years before her retirement. Through the entirety of her working life, Elva never faltered in her home life and was always regarded as a great mother. Elva was a lady, and made sure she and her husband were well poised at social events. In addition to her impeccable taste and good eye for style, she also embroidered and sewed, including some of her own clothing. Elva was an avid reader, as well as a writer and was a published poet. She had a wonderful voice and sang with her sisters in local churches to share their talent. Elva and Leon were extremely close and shared the ability to play piano and organ by ear. They also traveled together for Leon’s work. Elva was a loving mother and wife, and will be dearly missed by her family. Elva is survived by two children; Bradley James (Julie) Crosswaite of Reynoldsville, PA; Sharon K. (Donald Shaver) Crosswaite of Johnstown, PA; two grandchildren; Elizabeth Erin Thomas; Daniel Evan Thomas; four siblings; Agnes Burns; Isabelle Hetrick; Nelson Burkett; Kenneth Burkett; and her beloved dog, Twinkie. In addition to her parents and husband, Elva was preceded in passing by four siblings; Elvin Burkett; Albert Burkett; Alvera Burns; and Marion McKendree. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, from 12am to 2pm at the Snyder – d’Argy Funeral Home, 206 E. Main Street, Reynoldsville, PA 15851. Obituary Preview: Nola Aiken, 85, of Reynoldsville, PA, passed away on Friday, March 25, 2022, while at her home. She was born in Pittsburgh, on April 22, 1936, and was the daughter of the late Richard Old Jr. and Doris (Grewcox) Old. She was preceded in death by a younger brother, Charles Lloyd Old, on February 5, 1945.
She married Paul Aiken, of Franklin, who preceded her in death on April 11, 1998. She also lost her beloved daughter, Carol Aiken, who preceded her in death on July 17, 1982, as a result of a boating accident at Conneaut Lake. Nola is survived by her beloved son, John Aiken, of Reynoldsville.
She graduated from Saegertown High School in 1954, and after some post high school studies was employed at Bell Telephone Company in Meadville.
Nola and her family lived in California for five years and transferred back to Pennsylvania in 1967. After living in Meadville, they moved to Reynoldsville in July 1969.
She and her husband organized and led a weekly bible study and visitation program at a nursing home in Brookville, from 1970 to 1975. They were also involved with Kentucky Missions, collecting, and distributing clothes for several years. Nola edited their newsletter from 1996 to 2000. She accompanied her husband for three years as he lay-pastored a church in Reidsburg.
She completed the Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide course from Jeff Tech in 1986. She worked as a DRMC Hospice volunteer and later as a DRMC volunteer in Short Stay.
She was a member of Wapiti Audubon Society, and editor of their newsletter for four-and-a-half years. In 2005, she became a charter member of Toastmaster’s International. In 2005, she also was a teacher’s aid for Kindergarten and First Grade at C.G. Johnson School. In earlier years, she wrote and performed puppet scripts for Sunday School and Children’s Church with puppets she and her daughter created.
Along with her husband, she was an active ‘Blue Birder’ and created blue bird trail in serval areas. With her love of creative writing, she has a published article on blue birding in the January and February 1999 issue of Bird Watcher’s Digest, a National and International magazine. She also has a website publishing many of her stories on animal rescues, blue birding and Kentucky Missions.
In earlier years, she enjoyed roller skating, ice skating, swimming, boating with her parents, sewing, reading, and creative writing. In later years, she still enjoyed creative writing plus visiting her friends in their home and nursing home. She loved all animals of her life. In keeping with Nola’s desire, all services will remain private to her family. Final interment will take place at Reynoldsville Cemetery, Jefferson Co., PA. Jude was born on January 12, 1976, to John Raymond and Barbara Rosemarie (Foradori) Srock in DuBois. Jude grew up in Reynoldsville and graduated from DuBois Area High School with the Class of 1994. He pursued post-secondary education at Triangle Tech, graduating in 2003 as an electrician. He lived in DuBois where he enjoyed hunting, golfing, and spending time with loved ones. Jude loved to watch Star Wars and cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles. Jude is survived by his parents; John and Barbara; two brothers; Jason (Patricia) Srock, John Paul (Jennifer) Srock; as well as five nieces and nephews; Christopher Soult, Annastasia Srock, Joseph Srock, Addisen Srock, Aidan Srock; and multiple cousins. Jude was a friend to many and was always there with a helping hand, offbeat sense of humor, and colorful jokes that always kept everyone laughing. He will be missed by all of his family and friends. She was born on October 2, 1947, to the late Ronald Reynolds and Shirley (Willibey) White in Bradford, PA. On April 8, 1967, Linda married Carl S. France in Bradford, PA; he survives her. She had a few jobs over the years, but her favorite was taking care of her children and family. Linda enjoyed arts and crafts and  bowling. She loved to travel and listen to music. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. Linda was very loving and caring and will be missed by all those who knew her.  In addition to her husband, Linda is survived by three children; Robert L. (Marty) France of Maysville, NC; Todd S. (Linda) France of Soddy Daisy, TN; April L. (David) Feldbauer of Saint Mary’s, PA; three grandchildren; Garrett M. France of Soddy Daisy, TN; Ashley and Jennifer France of Wellsville, NY; one brother; Harold Reynolds of Williamsport, PA; and several nieces, nephews, and one great – grandchild. On August 5, 1989, Jim married Mary Louise Shaffer; Mary preceded him in passing on April 14, 2013. Jim was a member of the Beechwoods Presbyterian Church, American Legion #17, Fraternal Order of Eagles #965, and the Olympic Club or “The Big O”. James is survived by one son; James L. Jr., (Lori) Crawford; one brother; David B. (Sally) Crawford; three sisters; M. Shirley Sprague, Sandra J. Hetrick, Lois (Fred) Norton; two grandchildren; Danielle (Neill) Allen, Cody (Sierra) Gates; and one great grandson, Aiden Allen. She was born on May 8, 1948, to the late David Emerson and Eileen Roberta (Swartz) Mohney in DuBois. Pamela graduated from DuBois High School with the class of 1966. She married Donald “Don” Eugene Smith on October 21, 1967, in Emerickville, PA; Don survives her. Pam worked at Utilities and Industries in Reynoldsville for twenty years. She also worked as a bartender for Reynoldsville Legion Post 392. She was a member of Reynoldsville FOE #540 and American Legion Post #392. Pam was an incredibly social person who enjoyed surrounding herself with good company. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, and pool, and was even part of a pool playing league when she was younger. Pam loved to talk and could hold a conversation for as long as anyone would listen. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. In addition to her husband, Pam is survived by two daughters; Shari (Joe) Smith; Jodi (Jeffery) Fye; three grandchildren; Nicole (Stephen) Bergman; Corey (Kelsey Kiehl) Anderson; Jacob Fye; and two great grandchildren; Zoey Lee and Lyza Lee. She was born on April 28, 1948, to the late James D. and Mildred Berniece (Bierly) Wray in DuBois, PA. Sheila graduated from DuBois High School with the first class that combined Reynoldsville students with the DuBois school district. She went on to earn an Associate Degree at DuBois Business College. Sheila married Larry Arthur Jenkins on June 13, 1992, in Reynoldsville; Larry preceded her in passing on January 4, 2010. Sheila worked as a typist for United Cerebral Palsy in Falls Creek, PA, she retired from Fullington bus service as a ticket agent. Sheila had a strong faith in God and was a member of the Reynoldsville First Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Humanitarian Riders Motorcycle Club. Sheila loved the Lord and attended the First Baptist Church for years, where she was also a member of the choir. She loved to sing and could also play piano beautifully just by ear. Sheila enjoyed roller skating when she was younger and was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Sheila loved to laugh and spread her joy with her contagious smile, which could brighten any room. Above all else, Sheila loved her family, and her true passion was caring for her children. Obituary Preview: Daniel Thomas Rodgers, 90, of Reynoldsville, PA, passed away on Monday, February 14, 2022, while a resident of the DuBois Nursing Home in DuBois, PA. Dan was born on June 15, 1931 to the late Walter E. and Mary Mae (O’Hearn) Rodgers in Reynoldsville, PA. He graduated from Reynoldsville Area High School with the Class of 1949. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force for four years and served active duty during the Korean War. Dan married Mary Barbara “Barb” Wilk on November 15, 1958 in Lilly, PA; Barb survives him. He was a member of the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Reynoldsville, PA. Dan worked as an agent for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. After retirement he was known to visit the businesses in Reynoldsville to tell a few tall tales. He was a jokester and had a great sense of humor. Dan loved growing tomatoes, playing the lottery and slot machines, watching the Indy 500, and Notre Dame football. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children; Joseph (Karen) Rodgers, Carol (Dana) Smith, Denise “Nish” (Ted) Palumbo, Daniel J. (Amy) Rodgers, and Mindy (Michael) Berta; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Dan is preceded in passing by two brothers; two sisters; and one great-grandson. Obituary Preview: Dennis “Butch” Lee Siple Sr., 75, of Wishaw, PA, passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, while a patient at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital in DuBois, PA. He was born on August 5, 1946, to the late Donald and Marie H. (Diehl) Siple in Wishaw. Butch attended school in the Reynoldsville area and graduated from Reynoldsville High School. He proudly served his country with the US Army and achieved the rank of Sergeant E6. Butch married the love of his life, Dana Alane Horner, on July 10, 1971, in Reynoldsville; Dana survives him. Butch also worked for Penn Traffic and retired from Penelec with over twenty-five years of employment. He was a member of the Reynoldsville First United Methodist Church. Butch was a hardworking man who loved working with his hands and was a practiced woodworker and gardener. He loved the outdoors, specifically rabbit hunting with his beagles. He loved word searches and watching tv, specifically 48 Hours, Cops, and shows aired on The Food Network. Butch was a very kind and caring man, he was endlessly helpful and considered the needs of all those around him before himself. He left a special mark on the hearts of all those who experienced his kindness and selflessness. Butch will be dearly missed by his family and community. In addition to his wife, Butch is survived by two children; Dennis (Laura) Siple Jr.; Gail (Jeff) Pifer; three grandchildren; Connor Siple; Cody Pifer; Abigail Pifer; and two sisters; Penny Sackash and Janet Camise. In addition to his parents, Butch was preceded in passing by one brother, Donald Siple. She enjoyed spending time with her family, crocheting, and lottery tickets. Grace is survived by her son, Mark A. Kos and her grandson, Clayton J. Kos. On April 21, 1936, Barbara was born to the late John Sr. and Jenny (Mowrey) Murray in DuBois, PA.  She attended the Reynoldsville School District. On January 23, 1954, Barbara married Bud Arthur McGee in Reynoldsville; Bud preceded her in passing in 1974.  She worked at Christ the King Manor in DuBois, PA, as a cook for many years until she retired.  Barbara was a member of the Falls Creek Eagles, Brookville Fireman’s Club, and the Red Hat Society.  She attended church and was Christian by faith. Barbara loved to craft, she especially enjoyed crocheting and sewing grannie square blankets. She liked the color red and spending time at the beach. She was a busy body and liked to always be on the run.   She was a very caring person who would give the shirt off her back to anyone in need.  She would volunteer at food pantries in the area, specifically the Brookville Food Pantry, and helped with political campaigns. Barbara enjoyed cooking and baking, for a period of time she even baked cakes for weddings. She loved her family and will be missed by everyone who knew her. Barbara is survived by two daughters; Connie (Lynn) States; Linda (Rodney) Wilson; four siblings; Katherine Davis; Janet Kester; Lloyd Murray; John Murray; ten grandchildren; April States; Matthew States; Ryan (Jesse) States; Corryn Adams; Ryan McGee; Kayla Golnoski; Jenna Wolfe; Tarra White; Erin White; Jordan White; great grandchildren; Kiera Zeok; Paige Zeok; Zackary States; Bradley States; partner; Charlie Knapp; and a good friend; Louise Winters.  In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara is preceded in death by two sons; Allen Arthur McGee, 1974; Robert Lee McGee, 2002; two siblings; Mary Clark; and Shirley Radford. Born on November 29, 1921, Margaret was the youngest daughter of the late Stephen and Anna (Holdock) Masisak. After high school, Margaret worked for Bell Aircraft near Buffalo, NY, making airplane parts during WWII. After the war, she returned home to marry the love of her life, Herman Kougher on February 16, 1946; Herman preceded her in passing on December 30, 2013. She was very proud to be a full-time homemaker and loving mother. After raising her family, Margaret retired as a custodian at Jeff Tech School in Reynoldsville. In addition to her parents and husband, Margaret was preceded in passing by one son; Ronald Kougher; two sisters; Anna (Masisak) Ivonowski; Helen (Masisak) King; and five brothers; John Masisak; Steven Masisak; Andrew Masisak; Joseph Masisak; and Frank Masisak. Obituary Preview: Charles “Charlie” Howard Raymond McGranor Sr., 75, of Brookville, PA, passed away surrounded by family, during the evening hours of Monday, January 3, 2022, at his home. He was born on June 29, 1946, to the late John Andrew and Martha Gertrude (Fuller) McGranor in Brookville. He graduated from Strong Vincent High School in Erie PA, with the class of 1965. Charlie married Germaine “Jerry” Elliott on August 19, 1967, in Erie, PA; Jerry survives him. He worked for Perry Plastics in Erie for thirteen years and for Triangle Auto Springs in DuBois, PA, for twenty-seven years. Charlie was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Reynoldsville, PA. He loved the outdoors and participated in hunting, fishing, and trapping. Charlie enjoyed working with his hands, he enjoyed carpentry and could fix anything. Dad was the man to see if any of his children had a problem with anything. Charlie loved his community and would walk down the road to visit with any neighbor he saw. During the winter months he enjoyed helping his friends and neighbors by using his Kubota to plow heavy snowfall. Charlie was a warm and kindhearted man who will be dearly missed by his family and community. In addition to his wife, Charlie is survived by his seven children; Charles Jr. (Sherri); Bob (Lucy); Tim (Missy); Brian (Denise); Jen; Karen; Kelly (Adam); thirteen grandchildren; Alex; Nicki; Bobby; Alyssa; Brandon; Brenna; Jordan; Ben; Michaela; Jasonna; Logan; Bella; Tyler; four great grandchildren; Carter; Cooper; Waylen; Aria; and one brother; James Frederick McGranor. Jody was also an animal lover, especially when it came to cats and dogs. She enjoyed going to any beach with sand and water. Above all else, Jody loved her family, especially her granddaughter.
