M. (Sharples) Kellner, they were married October 4, 1980.Born August 10, 1947 in Gary, IN, son of the late Stephan D. and Ann (Ignatz) Kellner.
Stephan was a loving and devoted husband, father and brother. He was a retired Master Sargent with the Airforce after 20 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 67 in N. Grosvenordale, member of the Cornerstone Quinebaug Lodge # 122 in Thompson, member of Betty Putnam Chapter 106 Eastern Star, served as Grand Representative of Nova Scotia P. E. I. near CT. Stephan was a past Grand Royal Patron of Order of the Amaranth, member of Harmony Court #12. He was an avid reader, airplane enthusiast and was a truck driver for 25 years.
Besides his wife Anne he leaves his children, Richard Kellner and his wife Heather of Virginia, Robert Kellner and his wife Hilary of Putnam, siblings Peggy Johnson and her husband Jim of Indiana, Ruth Lanham and her husband Tom of Indiana, Gail Murphy of Indiana, Mary Garus of Florida, sister-in-law Cheryl Kellner of Indiana, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Wally Kellner.

Obituary Preview: Margaret M. Dexter 77, beloved wife of Robert Dexter, of Putnam died Friday, September 6, 2019 at Westview Health Care Center. She was born April 1, 1942 in Lansing, MI, daughter of the late Alden and Ada (Rice) Chase. Margaret was a graduate of Woodstock Academy class of 1960 and attended Annhurst College. She worked as an assembler for Fiber Optics Technology in Pomfret, but was most passionate about her nearly 20 year career at Woodstock Elementary School as a teacher’s aide working with children needing one on one assistance. She loved gardening, growing colorful flowers from spring until fall. Margaret was an incredibly active person. She was an avid horseman and rode motorcycles from coast to coast. Whether in N.E. or South Carolina, Margaret found walking paths, hiking trails and state parks to accommodate her combined love of the outdoors and exercise.Margaret leaves behind Robert, her high school sweetheart and husband of 58 years. She also leaves behind her children Mark Dexter and his wife Amy of Woodstock, daughter Margaret Yonchak and her husband David of Fort Pierce, FL, sister Barbara Lyon and her husband Gordon of Eastford, nephew Michael Lyon, many grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was predeceased by a son Alan Dexter. The family would like to thank the staff at Westview Health Care Center, especially the CNA’s, who took such loving and compassionate care of her on a daily basis for nearly two years.A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2019 in the Ballroom at the Black Dog Bar and Grille in Putnam starting at 11:30 AM until 1:30 PM. All who attend are encouraged to wear bright colors. Yellow was Margaret’s favorite.

Obituary Preview: Mary Louise (Lapierre) Conover of Eastford, CT, widow of Robert C. Conover, passed away in her sleep Friday, August 23, 2019 after several years of decline due to pulmonary fibrosis.
Mary was born Nov. 16, 1946 in Concord, NH to George Arthur Lapierre and Celia (Labonte) Lapierre and was raised in Moosup, CT. On Sep. 15, 1973 Mary and Bob were married and they enjoyed 43 years together in Eastford until Bob’s death on Dec. 17, 2016.
Mary worked for the state Department of Mental Retardation as a Residential Aide at Mansfield Training School for many years and at state Group Homes in the area following the close of MTS, retiring in July 2002.
Mary and Bob spent many years enjoying the fruits of RC Farm with their extensive gardens and also participating in local Farmer’s Markets. After retirement they spent several weeks of the summer for several years fishing for salmon in Kenai, Alaska; and Mary enjoyed hobbies and was proficient at quilting and making pottery in her spare time and was a caring and thoughtful friend to many over the years.
Her survivors include her sister Laura Baker (Mike) of Moosup, CT; brothers Arthur Lapierre of Moosup, Roger Lapierre (Phyllis) of Coventry, CT, and Maurice Lapierre of Plainfield; sisters-in-law Janice Conover of Cumming, GA , Marion Lapierre of Eastford, and Peg Conover Morley (Joe) of Prescott, AZ; numerous nieces and nephews; and her aunt Dori Randmetz. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Bob, and her brothers Girard, Henri, and Oliver Lapierre. Mary and Bob will also be missed by their many friends in the area for their hospitality and kindness; and Mary’s memory will especially be held in the hearts of her dear friends Cookie Carberry, Betsy Main, and Lettie Schultz .

Obituary Preview: M. Louise (Roth) Randall of Putnam, CT passed away peacefully at home on August 19, 2019. She was born in Dracut, Massachusetts to the late Mildred (Smith) Roth and Leo Carl Roth on December 4, 1923.
Louise graduated from Lowell (Massachusetts) State Teachers College with a degree in music and served as Music Supervisor for public schools in Lebanon, Hebron, Columbia and Sprague, and then Supervisor of Music in Montville, CT. In her spare time, Louise played violin in the Lowell Philharmonic Orchestra for many years. She also performed with the Willimantic Symphony Orchestra. In addition, Louise performed as a vocal soloist in Massachusetts and Connecticut.
Louise married David Gordon Randall on July 30, 1949. They were inseparable for 45 years and, ever since his passing in 1994, Louise missed him deeply.
Louise and David were active members of the Congregational Church of Putnam. Together, they led the Junior Pilgrim Fellowship (PF) group for many years. Louise served as Jr. Choir Director for 20 years. She was a member of the Sr. Choir for 58 years – retiring in 2011, at the age of 88. Over the years, she was very active in the church having served as president of the church’s Woman’s Fellowship as well as five years as the Recording Secretary for the Eastern District of the Woman’s Fellowship.
Louise was a quiet woman with a wonderful, soft sense of fun and humor. She was passionate about giving her time and energy to others and opened her heart to her children and grandchildren. She was much loved and will be greatly missed by those who knew her.
Louise was predeceased by her husband, David G. Randall; her brother, Karl Roth; and her great grandchild, Seth. Louise leaves behind her children Robert Randall (Kathy) of Hudson, MA; Phyllis Randall Lyczkowski (Richard) of Millbrook NY; Stephen Randall (Marsha) of Speedway, Indiana; Mark Randall (Susan) of Castle Hayne, NC; and Miriam Randall Morrison (Scott) of East Killingly, CT. She also leaves her sister-in-laws Louise (Teddy) Randall of Lebanon, CT and Charlotte Randall of Titusville, Pennsylvania. In addition, she leaves her beloved grandchildren Jennifer, Michael, Christopher, Emily, Kate, Rebecca, David & Jace; great grandchildren Elizabeth, Inés, Ellen, Sean, Kieran and Kaelyn, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Robert Louis Melanson, of Danielson, formerly of Blounts Town, FL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 1, 2017. Born in Moosup, Connecticut to Wilfred and Donalda (Ravenelle) Melanson.
Robert graduated from Marianapolis Preparatory School in Thompson, CT in 1946, and joined the US Coast Guard in 1948 serving four years in the Alaskan territory Aleutian Islands, and three years in the Gulf of Mexico in New Orleans LA. There he met and married the love of his life Carol Rita Haug in 1953, having recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. Robert was a member of the VFW Post 10284 of Moosup and was a Boy Scout leader. He worked for Dow Chemical in Groton CT; Posi Seal International in Pawcatuck, CT; and the Plainfield Public Schools transportation department as a school bus driver. He was an avid fisherman, camper, and loved traveling with his family.
Robert is survived by his wife Carol of Plainfield, six children; David Melanson of Lakeland, FL, Donna and Michael Zito of Beacon Falls, CT, Roberta Melanson of Danielson, CT, Carolyn and Homer Jennings of Kent CT, George and Loretta Melanson of Clewiston, FL, and Paula and Jeffrey Goyette of Plainfield, CT, ten loving grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Robert was predeceased by his parents, sister Jeanette LaPierre, and granddaughter Jamie Lynn Melanson. Joseph William A. Parker - March 26, 1932 - July 17, 2015

Obituary Preview: Joseph William A. Parker, 83, of Putnam, formerly of E. Woodstock, beloved husband of Sara (Gifford) Parker for 59 years, passed away at Matulaitis Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, July 17th, 2015.
He was predeceased by two brothers: Raymond of Florida, and Henry, who died while serving in Korea. He is survived by his wife Sara and his children (and spouses): Mark (Natalie) of Woodstock; Joy (Bob) of South Windsor; Timothy (LeAnn) of Columbus, NE; Shawn (David) of Providence, RI; Matthew of Danielson: his brother, Lester (Alice) of Plainfield; his sister-in-law Priscilla (Gifford) Butler of Dudley, MA; his nine granddaughters, fourteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was born March 26, 1932 in Lowell, VT to Raymond and Marion (Cote) Parker, one of four brothers.
As a teenager, he joined Boy Scout Troop 21 and became an Eagle Scout in 1948. Years later he served as a Scout Leader for Cub Scout Pack 27 in Woodstock and BSA Troop 25 in Putnam. He encouraged every scout to work hard to become an Eagle Scout, reminding them that it was a great asset in getting ahead and earning and respect in life. He joined the Army as soon as he was able, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant and proudly served in Germany with the 12th Infantry Regiment and in the 29th RCT in Korea and Okinawa. He worked as a welder and draftsman at General Dynamics Electric Boat, studied drafting and became a design draftsman for Combustion Engineering in Windsor, CT.
Joe loved the Lord Jesus and was an active member of the Living Faith United Methodist Church in Putnam, where he was Lay Leader and led youth ministries for many years. He served as a Local and District Lay Speaker, preaching and leading worship services when needed. He was a member of the New England Assembly of the Laity and a delegate to the New England Annual Conference, regional Northeastern Jurisdictional Conference, and international United Methodist General Conference. He served on the executive committee of the New England United Methodist Men, the General Board of Discipleship, and on the UMC Native American Comprehensive Plan committee. He served as a Woodstock town constable; Justice of the Peace; and served on the Woodstock Republican Town Committee. After his retirement from CE he served as Youth Mentor with United Community and Family Services of Northeastern CT helping to counsel fatherless boys from broken families.
Joe was an active member of the American Legion Benson-Flugel Post #111 and loved working as a mentor with the American Legion Boys’ State Program and serving in the honor guard at local parades and events. He was proud of his Native American Abenaki heritage, learning to make dreamcatchers during his church-related visits to western Native American reservations. As Spirit Eagle (Joe’s Abenaki name), he crafted hundreds of dream catchers, each personalized for family, friends, neighbors, scouts and caregivers. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, playing softball, dartball, and rooting for the UConn basketball teams, the Red Sox, and the Patriots; but above all Joe loved to flash his smile, curl his moustache, and tell people about Jesus. His family wishes to thank all his caregivers for their wonderful care and support, especially those at Day Kimball Hospital and Matulaitis Nursing Home, where Dad was given your gentle strength, reassuring concern, and support to his loved ones which eased the challenges we faced at the end.
There are no calling hours; there will be a memorial service on Saturday, August 8th at 2:00 pm at the Living Faith United Methodist Church, 53 Grove St., Putnam, CT. Burial will be in Grove Street Cemetery at a later date. The family asks that donations in Joe’s name be made to Living Faith United Methodist Church, attention of Ann K. Peterson, Living Faith UMC/Troop 25.

Ruth Elizabeth Young Lewis - January 30, 1919 - February 02, 2014

Obituary Preview: Eastford - Ruth Elizabeth Young Lewis, 95, died peacefully Sunday, February 2, 2014 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Putnam on January 30, 1919 to the late George and Emily (Cahoon) Young.
She grew up in South Woodstock, attended the one room schoolhouse now occupied by Benson-Flugal American Legion. She graduated from Woodstock Academy in the class of 1935. She received the Yale Honor Cup at this time and she was only 16. After graduation, she worked as a clerk at Montgomery Ward in Putnam. On August 21, 1938 she married Maro Keith Lewis of Eastford. When he passed in 2006, they had been married for 68 years. They had lived in Eastford all that time. Ruth began working in the Eastford Post Office in 1949. She was appointed Postmaster in 1954. She retired on February 2, 1979 having worked there for 30 years. During her tenure the post office was moved across the street to its present location. Ruth was an active member of the Eastford Congregational Church serving on the Diaconate for some time. She was a life member of the Betty Putnam Chapter 106 OES. She served for many years on the Library Board. Ruth and Keith spent many weeks in Florida after she retired. In the summer, they would be at the Cottage on Crystal Pond. Ruth loved watching the birds out of her kitchen window. Ruth also loved playing board games with her daughters and grandchildren. She was a whiz with crossword puzzles until her eye sight failed. She enjoyed watching the grandchildren and great grandchildren that were involved in their many athletic endeavors. She liked to watch the UConn women and the Boston Red Sox.
She leaves behind her three daughters, Nancy (Russ) Mayhew, of Eastford, Joanne Korner, of West Yarmouth, MA, and Susan Dillon, of South Dennis, MA. She also leaves eight grandchildren; Douglas (Gretchen) Mayhew, Diane Matteau, Chris (Karen) Mayhew, Robin (Dennis) Driscoll, Melissa (Tom) Cummins, Eileen (Stephen) McGee, Jim Korner and Kate (Glenn) DuBois. In addition there are 15 great grandchildren; Brady, Christopher, Cara, Marissa, Chloe, Kate, Rachel, Katie, Sarah, Myranda, Marisa, Emmett, Sullivan, Skylar and Thomas. She also leaves many nieces and nephews, Ruth was predeceased by sons-in-law Thomas Dillon and Ray Korner. She was also predeceased by her siblings; Henry Young, Frank Young, Gladys Anderson, Anna Cramer and Emily Bunnell. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the Congregational Church of Eastford, 8 Church Road, Eastford, CT. Carol was a 1962 graduate of Putnam High School. She had worked at Hale Manufacturing Co. in Putnam and Central Village, Anglo Fabrics in Webster, MA and her last employment was at Plas Pak in Norwich. Carol loved to knit and enjoyed cooking and keeping her house clean. Carol also enjoyed taking motorcycle trips with her husband. Carol and her husband are members of the Country Cruisers & New England Road Riders.
She leaves in addition to her husband, her brother Leonard Van Flatern and his wife June of Brooklyn; two daughters: Brenda Bishop and her husband Peter of Gilford, NH; Leslie Bowers and her husband Paul of Maryville, TN; her stepchildren: Michelle Pion of Killingly; Dawn Mayo of Dayville; Scott Dauphinais of Canterbury; eleven grandchildren.

Scott was born April 28, 1992 in Putnam, son of Annette Martel of Woodstock and Wayne Spalding of Woodstock. He also leaves his stepmother Eva Spalding and stepfather Roger Martel, his brother Kyle Spalding and his wife Emily of Woodstock, stepbrother Daniel Boylan of Danielson, grandparents Alfred and Gloria Tremblay of Woodstock, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and of course Bandit.
Scott was a 2010 graduate of the Woodstock Academy and later attended Quinebaug Valley Community College. He loved his friends, soccer and any activity that life offered him.

He was born April 28, 1924 in Foster, RI, son of the late Reino T. and Ella E. (Ericsson) Asikainen, Sr. He came with his family in 1933 and made their home in East Thompson. He made his home in Thompson/ Pomfret area most of his life, spending 14 years in Conway, NH., returning to Pomfret in 2004. He was a graduate of Tourtellotte High School in 1942. Served in the US Navy Seabees, NCB4, Algiers, North Africa in WWII and Korean Wars. He worked at Pratt and Whitney and retired from CEM Corp in Dayville in 1989, working in Quality Control. He was a member of the VFW Post 11557, Conway, NH. He was a "Loving Husband, Father and Grandfather."
He leaves his wife of 62 years, Dorothy L. Asikainen, two sons: Edward E. (Sandra) Asikainen of Coventry, CT, Carl W. ( Dr. Samantha) Asikainen of Eastford, CT, four daughters: Karen E. Carpenter of Portland, ME, Joan L. Asikainen, Susan L. (John) Clough of Gilford, NH, Donna L. Lehtonen of Port Orchard, WA; a brother-in-law, Rolf and Irene Swanson of Thompson, CT, ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his twin sister, Lea E. Asikainen in 1990.

Barbara Weaver, 83, died on December 26, 2010, of complications associated with Central Nervous System Lyme Disease. Born in Boston, MA, on August 29, 1927, her parents were Leo F. Weisse and Nina M. (Durham) Weisse. She leaves her daughter, Valerie Clark, son-in-law Dave Clark, and grandson Jesse Clark, all of Thompson, CT. She also leaves a sister, Janet Bennett of Boonton, NJ, as well as seven nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband, George Weaver, as well as by a brother, Leo Weisse.
Barbara graduated from Jeanne D'Arc Academy in 1945 and later earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Radcliffe College. She also held a Master's Degree in Library Science from the University of Rhode Island, and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Education from Boston University.
In the course of her career, Barbara worked as a photographer at Edgerton, Germanhauser, and Greer (EG&G), working directly for "Doc" Edgerton. She participated in the photography of the atomic bomb testing on the Manhattan Project. She also worked for PhotoSwitch, a division of the Electronics Corporation of America.
Barbara married George Briggs Weaver, Jr. in 1951. During their marriage, she and George built and operated the 1st purpose-built private road race course in America, the Thompson Raceway. Over the course of the track's lifetime, the Weavers established a reputation for providing a combination of challenge, safety, and hospitality for competitors and guests from around the world.
Barbara and George were members of the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America). She and he remain honorary members of the Vintage Sports Car Club of America and are considered pioneers of sports car racing.
Barbara was a pilot, a gourmet cook, a sports car enthusiast, an avid knitter (including work with Kaffe Fassett intarsia patterns), as well as a NY Times puzzler. She loved traveling worldwide and eventually visited every state in the US, and nearly every continent on the planet. She was an open space advocate who enjoyed the beach and the sun and loved swimming. In her later years, she was a pioneer for aging in place, living in her own home until the end of her life.
Barbara's later career was in library services working as Head of the Thompson Public Library, Director of Library Services for the Connecticut State Library System where she established the Interlibrary Loan System, Assistant Head of the Central Massachusetts Regional Library System in Worcester, MA, Instructor at Simmons College, State Librarian for the State of New Jersey and State Librarian for the State of Rhode Island. She was the State of Rhode Island's first Chief Information Officer and a member of the Governor's Cabinet.
Barbara was also a Council member at the International Motor Racing Research Library in Watkins Glen, NY, a member of the Thompson Historical Society Board of Directors where she helped create the beautiful Ellen Larned Memorial Museum housed in the original Thompson Library Building, and where she headed work on the East Thompson section of the Echoes of Thompson Volume I history book. She also was on the Board of Directors of the Rhode Island Historical Society, a member of the National Association of State Chief Information Officers, President of the Chief Officers of State Library Agencies from 1986-1988, a member of the Council of State Library Agencies in the Northeast, on the Board of Directors of the Northeast Document Conservation Center, Chair of the American Library Association ASCLA State Library Agency Section and the Legislative Committee, Editorial Board Member for " The Bottom Line: A Financial Magazine for Libraries", and held the elected position of Library Director for the Thompson Library. She was one of the original members of the Thompson Together Environmental Group and held many other volunteer positions throughout her career.
She was awarded many significant recognitions including REIMA's Presidential Award in 1998 for outstanding library service, COLA Sweetheart of the Year in 1997, University of Rhode Island GSLIS Distinguished Alumni Award, Trenton YWCA Women in Industry & Government Award, Common Cause of Rhode Island State Governing Board Award and the WHCLIST Bessie B. Moore Award. As well, Barbara had many publications to her credit.

After the war he ran his own plumbing and heating business for his entire career. Upon retirement Ralph enjoyed traveling with his wife Theresa, as well as flying his own Cessna airplane. Ralph and Theresa also spent many winters in Florida.

He was a communicant of ST Mary Church of the Visitation in Putnam, he played semi-pro baseball and played against Joe DiMaggio in Williams Field in Tempe, AZ, an avid golfer and longstanding member of Quinitisset Country Club and played for Webster Colonials Football Team as a young man.. He worked as a screw machine operator for Kramer in Old Saybrook for 35 years. After retiring at the age of 65 he worked for Conntrol in Putnam. He was a member of American Legion Post 67 and served as past commander.
He leaves his daughter Pamela Bessette and her husband David Kanter of Thompson, siblings Rita Johnsen of N. Fort Meyers, FL. She was a devoted and courageous mother, raising five children on her own after the death of her husband. Emily always enjoyed a good cup of coffee and a crossword puzzle, playing Scrabble, Black-eyed Susans, anything "apples," her yellow kitchen, and the company of her family.
She is survived by her son, Scott Bunnell, of North Olmstead, Ohio, granddaughter Sarah Colbert, and great-grandson Colin Colbert; by her daughter Emily (Bunnell) Guertin, of Putnam, CT, grandson Eric Guertin and great-grandson Gavin, grandson Chad Guertin, and granddaughter Emily Guertin; by her daughter Gail Bunnell of Brooklyn, CT, husband Fred Mongeau, grandson Kyle Herindeen, wife Bonnie and great-granddaughter Grace, grandson Christopher Mongeau, and granddaughter Heather Mongeau; by her son Dean Bunnell of Eastford, wife Lisa, and grandson Silas; and by her son Ross Bunnell of Hartford, CT, wife Edith, and grandchildren Oliver and Sofia.
