Susan J. Maguire - October 11, 1949 - April 05, 2024

Departed: 04/05/2024 (Ellicott City)
Obituary Preview: Born in Munich, Germany.Daughter of Frank J. Maguire, Jr. & Corrine C. Maguire.Loving & devoted mother of John Teifert, Michael Teifert & William "Buddy" Teifert. She is survived by her three brothers and two sisters. Frank Maguire III, Willam "Buddy" Maguire, Johnny Maguire, Suzy Maguire Funk & Mary Maguire Noel.Born soon after World War II. Her father was stationed in Germany helping the people of the country rebuild by conducting the Berlin Airlift. When it was time for Susan to enter this world, her father would put her mother in to his Packard and rushed through the Zugspitze Mountains so he could get her to the hospital in Munich. The family would make their way to many places around the world. From Munich they would return to the states and eventually to North Africa and take residence in Tripoli, Libya. Susan had very fond memories of this time in her childhood. She always spoke of the beauty of the country and the kindness of the people who lived there. She attended Trinity Preparatory School in Ilchester, MD and Manhattanville College of the Sacred Heart where she obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Fine Art. From there she moved to Boston, MA where she married her husband Dana S. Teifert on May 31st, 1975 at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen in Baltimore, MD and they started a family of their 3 sons. As happens to many couples, the marriage did not last, however they remained friends until Dana’s unexpected passing in 2007.Everyone knew her as Sally. She was a warm, outspoken and caring mother who devoted her life to her children. She was a talented artist, an avid golf fan (especially of Tiger Woods), she loved great music from the likes of James Taylor, Paul Simon, Elton John, Elvis Presley and Tina Turner. She loved being outside. Whether it was sitting in the sun, running around the reservoir, tending to the flowers and foliage in her front yard, or cruising around in her Alfa Romeo with the top down. She had a charming personality. She enjoyed simple pleasures in life and found happiness in small experiences. She enjoyed a daily cup of tea and her favorite chocolates, or sometimes the smell of fresh baked cookies more than the cookies themselves. She instilled the lessons of her childhood in to her children sometimes through stories of her family, her aunt Janie, the Clarke family, or the southern style of cooking she had learned from her mother. She was proud of her family, her loving sisters and caring brothers. She always looked forward to talking with them at night when she knew everyone was winding down for the day. She was especially proud of her father Frank Maguire and his life's accomplishments and always spoke highly of her incredibly warm hearted mother who held a special place in her heart. She loved her children unwaveringly and took pride in taking care of her house, always taking the time to add her style and touch to everything. She loved summer vacations to the house in Oxford or to Ocean City, and rides in the car with her boys.Through it all she remained focused on doing what she was able to do so that her boys would be safe and prepared for their lives ahead. Picking up and dropping off the kids at school was one of her favorite things to do for many years. Doing homework together, decorating for holidays, and keeping “the boat afloat” were always priorities. This routine was punctuated throughout the year by enjoying the trees in front of the house return to life every spring, and planting the brightest red geraniums she could find in the planters on the front porch of the house she made a home for the last decades of her life. Luckily, all three of her boys inherited her excellent memory and will carry these details and many more with them as they move forward through life and do their best to honor her memory and make her proud. You were truly one of a kind and we will all miss you.The family will receive friends on Monday April 15, 2024 from 10 am - 12 pm at Slack Funeral Home, P.A., 3871 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City, MD 21043.
