Dale Lee Thomasson - September 15, 1951 - May 08, 2024

Departed: 05/08/2024 (Roanoke)
Obituary Preview: Dale Lee Thomasson, 72, of Bent Mountain, VA., went to be with the Lord and so many of the souls that he loved in this life that had gone before him on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. He passed away peacefully in his sleep, which is a true blessing.
Dale was known to so many and was a true staple of the community, yet never wanted to be forced into the limelight of life by being recognized or seen as a martyr. He accomplished so many things in his lifetime, but was the type of person who always put others first before focusing upon himself. His father had taught him carpentry at a young age and he worked for Moore’s Lumber Company mostly to get discounts on building materials where he built and designed some of the first smaller houses on Smith Mountain Lake near his childhood home in Goodview. From there, he purchased land on Bent Mountain and would remodel barns into homes as well, planted pine trees and sold Christmas trees from the land until moving onto the property in 2004. He built and created his own business (The Park) in Roanoke, Virginia in 1977. For 35 years, he opened the doors of that foundation so that so many people could have a place to go, once again, to find their acceptance within a common world where they could be themselves, not to worry about the world outside, free from ridicule. So many people saw Dale as their protector, mentor, father figure and friend. Dale spent his own money to help so many during those 35 years, to help them reach their dreams, have a better life, at times even paying for countless burials for some patrons who had no one to do so for them. He also practiced for a time in crown and bridge work as a dentist assistant and upon retirement in 2013, immediately focused on his neighbors, home life and his mini-farm on the Mountain. His neighbors became his daily fun and he would help anyone that needed it, even if they didn’t ask him.
Dale was preceded in death by his father, W. Floyd (Little Boy) Thomasson; mother, Missouri Cundiff Thomasson; brother, Cecil Ray Thomasson and brother, William “Bill” A. Thomasson. Surviving Dale is his life-long partner of 41 years Timothy W. Clark; Siblings, F. Wayne Thomasson and wife, Ruby; Fran T. Hall and husband, Russ; special sister-in-laws, Lynda Thomasson and Gayle Thomasson; mother-in-law, Betty L. Clark and brother-in-law, Scott A. Clark and wife, Lisa. Dale is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well as so many of those he continued to hold close to his heart as his dearest friends and neighbors.
As with Dale’s life, he chose in death not to be recognized or to be placed on a pedestal. His request has been to have no services, just a simple private ceremony at a later date to celebrate his wonderful ‘giving’ life. He often said when his time on Earth was done here that those left behind would remember him in the small things; a flickering star in the middle of the night, a rainbow after a rainstorm or even the falling leaves in fall. He will. That will be Dale’s true legacy in this life.
