Margaret "Peggy" Breen - October 18, 1929 - June 21, 2022

Departed: 06/21/2022 (Shelburne)
Obituary Preview: Burlington, VT - Margaret “Peggy” Breen passed away peacefully on June 21, 2022.  Born in  1929 to Willard T. & Marguerite M. Keane in the Bronx, New York, Peggy attended Ursuline  Catholic Schools in New York City and New Rochelle, NY, after her family moved to Scarsdale.    She graduated from Trinity College in Washington, DC (now known as Trinity Washington  University) in 1950.  After college she attended Katherine Gibbs School and worked as a  secretary to various executives at Time-Life, Inc.  During this time she took several trips to  Europe with church groups and caught the travel bug.              In 1955, Peggy married the love of her life, Jim Breen, in St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New  York City.  Over the next six years, she gave birth to five children - four boys followed by one  girl.  In 1964, Peggy and Jim moved into a small house in the New North End of Burlington “for  a year or so” when National Cash Register (NCR) transferred Jim from New Jersey.  Their last  child, another girl, was born in Vermont.  Their new neighborhood teemed with children, had a  private beach, had good public schools nearby, and soon had Leddy Park and the Burlington  Bike Path within a stone’s throw.  Appreciating their new home as a terrific place to raise their  family, Peggy and Jim decided to stay.  Peggy lived in that house until just before her death,  seeing the neighborhood grow and change over the past 58 years and cherishing the  friendship of many dear neighbors.            Peggy was a devoted wife to Jim, and they raised their six children in the Catholic faith  that meant so much to them.  Peggy was a natural caretaker, enjoying raising her children and  putting her travels aside during those busy years.  After her children were grown, she cared for  her grandchildren and great grandchildren whenever she had the chance.  “Grandma Breen”  was a beloved matriarch, hosting countless holiday meals over seven decades, and never  missing a recital, game, graduation, or other event to which she was invited.            During her later years, Peggy embarked on multiple ocean cruise trips, mostly with  friends (Hawaii, Panama Canal, Alaska, the Caribbean) and once with Jim (Mediterranean Sea).   And she was always eager to “tootle around” Europe, New England, New York, Canada, or  other points with friends or family, doing her research and mapping her route with great  enthusiasm.  She also gave generously of her volunteer time to Meals on Wheels and the  American Red Cross.            Peggy was predeceased by her husband, Jim, and son, Chris (Amy).  She is survived by  her two younger brothers, Bill and Frank Keane, her three sons, Joe (Jackie McBride), Mike  (Maureen) and Kevin (Janet) and her two daughters, Mari Palace (Josh) and Cathy (Jay Geller).   In addition, she is survived by her twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren.     A  funeral mass will be celebrated on June 29, 2022 at 10:00 am at Christ the King Church.  In lieu  of flowers, please make a donation in Peggy’s memory to UVM Medical Center Foundation,  Courtyard at Given 3N, 111 Colchester Ave., Burlington, VT  05401. Corbin & Palmer is  handling funeral arrangements.

Departed: 06/17/2022 (Shelburne)
Obituary Preview: David Michael Jones was born on June 19th, 1942, and passed peacefully on June 17th, 2022, surrounded by his family and friends, just two days before his milestone 80th Birthday.
He married Noella (Landry) Boulet on June 1st, 1985; they shared a deep love for each other.  Together they made a wonderful life for themselves and their children.   David is survived by his wife Noella and their children Lisa (Jones) McGonagle and husband Kevin; Shawn Jones; Danny Boulet; and Jennifer Boulet; along with grandchildren, Elizabeth, Kyle, Lauren, Jacob and Hunter.  He was the youngest of two sons to John and Corrine (Meunier) Jones.   Along with his beloved brother Donny, they spent their early years in Burlington before the family moved to Essex Center, where he resided for life. David graduated from Essex High School in 1960 and attended Vermont Technical College.   Following college, he joined IBM and retired after 40 years.  In retirement, he continued to consult for IBM for several years thereafter.  He was also a Master Electrician and for a decade in the 1980’s he taught apprentice classes for the State of Vermont, which he loved.  Also in retirement, he and his brother Donny, both extremely talented, created J and J Construction.  A chance to work with his best friend Donny each day as a Team.   Together, they helped an abundance of friends and family.   And never a nefarious name was called…
David was active - loved the outdoors and sports.  His interests ran a gambit and he truly excelled at these adventures.  He was a great soccer player in his youth.  He was an amazing bowler and softball pitcher.  He rocked horseshoes, golf, pool and was an avid hunter.  He also enjoyed reading books and teaching his skills to others.  He enjoyed all these activities with both his family and friends.   His love of hunting brought him to many places like Canora, Canada, New York, and Montana.   He also spent many years hunting in both deer camps in Danville and Groton, Vermont.
David was a smart, kind and patient man with an abundance of friends, an extra-large handful he thought of as family.  They constantly gathered at the barn or clubs and went on a new adventure a few times a year enjoying each other’s time and conversations together.   They are all great friends, perfect old friends.  Many he grew up with and have all grown older together.
As a father and grandfather, he encouraged and engaged with all his children and grandchildren.  We all share amazing memories of the trips to Florida, the beaches in Maine, clam digging, camping, boating, ice fishing and skiing the slopes.  Often, just gathering at Sunset Drive around the pool for a day of relaxation and great food.  He will be missed immensely.
David and Noella were married for 37 years.   For their honeymoon, they went on a seven country, three-week tour of Europe.   They continued their love for travel throughout their marriage going on several Bahama cruises and trips to Nashville, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, and New Orleans.   Their most recent trip, a cruise through Alaska will remain extremely memorable.    They were snowbirds together and enjoyed winters in Bonita Springs, Florida where they share many friends and family.
He leaves his brother Donny and wife Frieda of Richmond, Vermont, the large Landry family, former daughter-in-law Michelle Boulet of Barre, Vermont, his beloved niece Heidi Jones and her partner Randy Howard of Georgia, Vermont and friend for life, Bob Drury of Essex Center, Vermont.
Family and friends will honor and remember David’s life on Saturday, July 9th, 2022, at 11:00 AM at the First Congregational Church, 39 Main Street, Essex Junction, Vermont.
Donations in his name can be made to the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Trust Fund - Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department, One National Life Drive, Dewey Building, Montpelier, Vermont 05620-3208.

Nathaniel "Neely" Bartlett Rich - December 20, 1965 - June 14, 2022

Departed: 06/14/2022 (Shelburne)
Obituary Preview: June 14th, 2022 marked the passing of our dear and beloved friend and brother. Nathaniel B. Rich passed away after a brief and unexpected illness. Neely passed peacefully at UVMMC. He will be dearly missed by all. Nathaniel was born December 20th, 1965 in Burlington, VT. Being the comedian of the family, we enjoyed his wit, mirth and humor, as did everyone he met. He took great joy in insulting me in a loving way, at every opportunity!! Always looking on the bright side, even when things were tough. He was known to say “At least I didn’t wake up in Africa!” Nathaniel worked successfully as a skilled tradesman and was well respected in his field. Neely’s cute demeanor and good looks always caught an eye from the ladies. He also had a generous nature, which always led him to consider others first. Nathaniel was predeceased by his loving parents, Donald and Margret Rich. His surviving siblings, Victoria, Malachey, Heidi, Donald, Jonathan and Owen, and his daughter, Brianna will most certainly long grieve this loss, along with all who knew him. Nathaniel had deep love for the outdoors and all things natural, a good trait in any person. Neely had an instinctive kindness, that I am still learning. He frequently caused us all to look through a different perspective and lens, that lens focused on positivity, kindness and caring. Neely did have his spicy side.  When his buddy Tony asked for a bite of his snickers bar, he was glad to share, then Tony gobbled the WHOLE thing in one bite! Neely was kinda pissed at Tony for years - still is. Although, I am sure he has forgiven him by now. Neely also had an interest in all things mechanical, sure hope they have a tinkers shop in heaven, he’ll be right at home, I am sure St. Pete will give Neely a golden key to that heavenly workshop. When Neely was younger, he built a go-cart, which I criticized until he intently burnt a hole clean through the top of my brand new boot, then he drove away laughing! That would have been Neely’s mischievous side, a side of him we will chuckle at in remembrance. The love and kindness Nathaniel expressed and exuded, I cannot put into mere words. He will miss us, as much as we will miss him. I weep not for myself. For to have know him is an honor, we can all take with us the rest of our lives.
God speed our friend. A graveside public service will be held at Fairview cemetery at Old Colchester Road, Essex Jct.  All are invited. A celebration of life to follow at Murray’s Tavern, Essex Jct, VT. Please re-visit this site for upcoming date and time.
