On April 23, 1949, Dorothy married Alfred Anderson, and their love story blossomed after Alfred's return from World War II.

In 1964, Dorothy and Alfred made the move from Abilene to San Angelo, Texas, where they created a home filled with love and cherished memories. In 1967, she embarked on a career as the bookkeeper at Sheppersons furniture store. Dorothy had a passion for tending to her flower beds and yard, often delighting her family, relatives, and her beloved grandson Sheldon with her gardening skills and her famous pecan pies. One of her greatest joys was taking her grandson Sheldon on vacation every summer.

Dorothy is survived by her devoted son, Roland Anderson, and his loving wife, Joyce Anderson, as well as her cherished grandson, Sheldon Anderson, and his wife Jill Anderson. Her legacy also includes two great-granddaughters, Sophie Anderson and Bella Anderson, a sister-in-law, Bess Hobbs, and numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy's favorite expression, "Thank you kindly," reflected her gentle and grateful spirit.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Bronte Health And Rehab and St. Gabriel's Hospice for their compassionate care and support.

A graveside service to celebrate Dorothy's life will be held at 2 pm on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, 4989 FM Highway 1223, San Angelo, TX 76905. We invite family and friends to join us in bidding farewell to this remarkable woman who touched our lives with her warmth and love.

A devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers, Carla's love for her team was unrivaled. She could often be found donning her cheesehead and cheering loudly at the TV during games. She even had the cops called one time. Her dedication and loyalty to her team were unwavering, and she never missed a game.

Carla was not only a sports enthusiast but also a dedicated volunteer. For many years, she generously gave her time to the San Angelo Civic Theatre, where she played various roles, from behind-the-scenes support to taking center stage as an actress. Her commitment to her community was an inspiration to many.

Camping and horseback riding were among her favorite pastimes, and her connection with animals was profound. She had a compassionate heart and a special place for her beloved dogs Gin, Harbor, and Maxine.

Carla's faith was an integral part of her life, and she was an active member of the First Christian Church. She lent her voice to the church choir and delighted in playing the handbells alongside her sister.

Carla was preceded in death by her son, Zaron White, her parents Elroy and Marie, her brother Mark Kujawski, her sister Ann Kujawski, her brother Charles "Chuck" Kujawski, and her brother-in-law Howard O’Neal Aylor, Jr.

She leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory, including her son Thomas Christian "Chris" Horn and wife Kelly, her daughter Caitlyn Marie Howarth and husband Brad, her sister Vivian Kay Aylor, and her brother Steven Roy Kujawski and wife Barbara. Julia was renowned for her culinary skills, particularly her spicy dishes and her famous salsa, made with love and her favorite pequin peppers. She crafted delicious flour, corn tortillas and Spanish rice that were cherished by all.

While she had a big heart, when she put her foot down, you knew it, and her infectious laughter could light up any room. Julia was always impeccably dressed and had a special affinity for sparkles and bling. She never left her house without perfect makeup and stylish clothes, and her love for garage sales was well-known.

Julia's true joy in life was her grandchildren, with whom she shared countless cherished moments. She was a devoted member of Bethel Baptist Church in Robert Lee.

Julia was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of forty-two years, Alberto Garza; her brother Joe Lara; her sisters Mary Ochoa, Vivian Flores, Conchita Espinosa, and Frances Garcia; her brother Ynez Lara; and her granddaughter Tamara Lynn Doss.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories to be carried on by her daughters: Christine Abalos and husband Manuel, Elsa D. Wood and family, and Sara Cruz and husband Rey; son Caesar Delapena; grandchildren: Cynthia Skipworth and husband J.P., Angela Abalos, Charles Abalos, R.J. Cruz and wife Kristin, Brian Abalos and wife Brittny, Julia Cruz-McCormick and husband Brandon, Jennifer Rene, Albert Delapena and wife Jalina, Christina Delapena, Austin Delapena, and Jesslin Wood; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, siblings Luther Lara and wife Lydia, Luis Lara and wife Yolanda, Janie Munoz and husband Jimmy, Jimmy Lara and wife Martha; and numerous other loving family members and friends. In addition, she leaves behind her cherished fur baby and companion, Julio.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6-8pm on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Bethel Baptist Church in Robert Lee. Funeral services will be held the following day, at 10am, on Friday, October 13, 2023, also at Bethel Baptist. Burial will immediately follow at Robert Lee Hispanic Cemetery.

Honoring the family by serving as pallbearers are Brian Abalos, R.J. Cruz, Jonathan Skipworth, Casey Skipworth, Mason Abalos, Dalton Abalos, Brandon McCormick, and Billy Arthur. Charles Abalos, Gabriel Abalos, Albert Delapena, and Austin Delapena will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Julia's legacy of love, laughter, and meticulous planning will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

His devotion to his faith was a guiding force in his life, as evidenced by his membership at Calvary Baptist Church, where he remained a current member. He was also a long-standing member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, and his spiritual beliefs guided him in living a life of kindness and service to others.

Ernest possessed a unique talent for carpentry, which he generously shared with anyone in need. His acts of carpentry were a tangible embodiment of his servant's heart, making a significant impact on those he helped.

Ernest's memory will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His good-hearted nature, dedication to his country and community, and willingness to lend a hand to those in need have left an indelible mark.

Ernest was not only a dedicated servant but also a man of adventure and passion. He found joy in his red jeep, taking scenic rides, and exploring life on his motorcycle. He also enjoyed hunting and four-wheeling, embracing the beauty of the great outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother Nettle Lambert; former wives Sue Lambert and Vera Lambert; son Carl Allen Lambert; sister Betty Fisher; sister Aileen Hester; sister Colleen Wagner; and brother Glen Lambert.

He also had a passion for golf and experienced the thrill of hitting a hole-in-one during a game in California, a feat commemorated with a certificate.

Born on December 8, 1937, in Big Spring, Texas, she was the beloved child of Ira and Maurine Rice. Iris was a force of nature, a woman of many titles, talents and nicknames. An extraordinary wife, mother, Granny, sister, and friend, she had true grit running through her veins, cowgirl-style. For most of her career, she was the proud owner of "Iris’s Poodle Parlor" in Big Spring, where she worked her magic on mutts to purebreds. Well known for this in town it was common to hear someone in the grocery store say “Hey, I need to make an appointment for my dog!”

She had a do-it-yourself spirit that could rival the Lone Star itself. If Iris didn't know how to do something, you can bet she'd figure it out, all on her own. She wasn't one to ask for help; she preferred to be the helper.

With a quick wit, a playful sense of humor, and a humble spirit, Iris could light up a room with her presence. She had a talent for both giving and receiving good-natured banter and enjoyed every moment to the fullest.

In her younger years, Iris and her adored husband, James "Bob" Doss, built a life and home from humble beginnings, always providing a way for their family to own and train horses for competition in rodeos around the state.

Iris was a devoted mother and grandmother who knew the importance of showing up for her loved ones. She never missed a chance to watch volleyball, basketball, football, ballet, or rodeo, no matter the distance. Any opportunity to be a part of her grandkids' activities became the core purpose of creating memories. She treasured those recollections not only for her lifetime but also as a legacy for her descendants to hold and build upon in their lifetimes.

A woman of strong faith, Iris was a member of both the Cowboy Church and the Biker Church, embodying her godly values and servant's heart. Her door was a revolving one, always open to those in need of shelter and a warm meal. Over the years, she unofficially adopted countless wayward cowboys and others who found solace and family in her home.

Possessing a heart of gold and a backbone of steel, Iris was a true Texan through and through. Her memory will forever be recalled by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.

Iris joins her parents, her beloved husband James "Bob" Doss, her son Allen Shepard, her brother Lowie K. Rice, sister Rosemary Rice Mickler, and grand-dog, Pearl, in the great beyond. She leaves behind the gift of love and is survived by a brother, Jon Rice, sons Wyatt Overton, Jessie Doss, and James Doss, and her devoted daughter Iris Rose "Sissy" Hines with husband Steve, Iris further blessed us with nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and her cherished grand-dog, Gus. The blessings continue with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

May her spirit continue to dance among us, reminding us to embrace life's joys and hold tight to our cherished memories. Iris, you will be deeply missed. “I hope you're dancing in the sky, riding horses in the abundant pastures, looking down on the moon and stargazing from above.” ‘

Above all, John was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He had a heart as big as Texas and was known as a gentle giant with a sensitive soul. His love for his beloved wife, Patricia Ann Gamble Gates, was unparalleled. After her passing in 2011, he remained faithful to her memory, a testament to the enduring power of love.

John found solace in the beauty of nature, and he cherished the moments spent with his family in the great outdoors. Whether it was camping, fishing, or embarking on family trips every weekend, he was dedicated to creating lasting memories for his children. He reveled in barbecues and cherished every moment spent with his family. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and they shared a secret handshake that was a testament to the unique bond they shared. He was fiercely protective of his family, especially his cherished grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of over forty years, Patricia Ann Gamble Gates, his parents, his brother Hoss Gates, and one sister. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will forever warm the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his son, John Charles Gates, Jr., his daughter, Charlene Denise Elliott, and his three beloved grandchildren, Ethan Dane Elliott, Bethany Grace Gates, and Kallen Lain Elliott. In addition, he leaves behind numerous other loving family members and friends.

Philip was a masterful fixer, possessing the extraordinary ability to mend anything that came his way. Vibrant and brimming with life, he embarked on numerous adventures throughout his seventy-eight years, sharing laughter and joy with all who were fortunate to be in his company. His unbridled sense of humor endeared him to many, and he relished the moments spent with his best friend and soul mate, Jeanne. He enjoyed barbecues and cold beer. He served in country proudly in the National Guard during the Vietnam era.

Within the walls of his home, Philip's cat, Thunder, reigned supreme, a testament to his affection for furry companions.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Philip leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for his devoted partner, Jeanne Johnson, who mourns his loss deeply. His son, Larry Gipson, and wife Denise, as well as two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, carry his memory forward, remembering the warmth of his smile, the sound of his laughter, and the love he shared with each of them.

In the wake of this tragic loss, Philip Cawyer Gipson will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. Obituary Preview: Andrea Lucille Birkett McClelen, “Nanny”, was born July 12, 1925 in Beeville, Texas. She passed away peacefully at home on September 14, 2023. She was 98 years old.

Andrea was born the youngest child to Eloise Chaffin-Gilbert and Ernest Andrew Birkett. Andrea adopted a baby girl, Sue Kathryn, in January 1958 with her second husband. She met and married Kenneth McClelen in 1960 and he adopted Sue Kathryn the same year. They moved to San Angelo, Texas (Grape Creek) in 1964 and this is where she lived out her life.

Andrea was an active member of Fairground Road Church of Christ for many years and her faith was extremely important to her though she had not attended church in many years. She worked at SESCO for a few years before quitting to be home for her grandchildren.

Andrea’s grandchildren were her absolute joy and the loves of her life, with Sue Kathryn, their mama, close in tow. Mama used to tell her “Most days I think you love those babies more than me” and Nanny would just grin. She lived for her family.

Nanny was sassy, feisty, and spunky! She was very independent and still did most things around the house herself. She loved spending time in Christoval at her property on the river camping with her family. When we got older, she passed on a love for camping and the outdoors to our children. It was likely that at least one weekend a month, there would be a family camping trip with toddlers in tow! Nanny loved Friday night spaghetti dinners with Gina and Andrea cooking in the midst of playing Rummy with the great-grandchildren running around playing and Cole playing video games.

She taught her family, more specifically us three children, kindness, humility, integrity but the greatest of these was love. She made sure we knew what unconditional love was and that if you love someone, no matter the type of relationship, you just simply love them. You love them whole-heartedly, without provisions or expectations. You just love them. Nanny was the strongest woman we knew. She overcame so many heartbreaks and tragic situations most people would not have recovered from. But she kept going. She persevered and lived a great life on her own terms. She is where we got our strength!

Andrea is survived by her three grandchildren ReGina Hoag (Brian), Andrea Rowland (Josh) and Kenneth Cole Disman (Amber); six great-grandchildren Kayla Hasty, Jordan Hasty, Rikkie Ruschenberg, Travis Ruschenberg, Nolan Ruschenberg and Drake Disman; five great-great-grandchildren Betty Ruschenberg, Faith Ramirez, Zander, Zaiden and Zayla Ruschenberg; son in law Steve Chowning, “son” Randy Camron (Janet) and Lesley Smith Lancaster and Delores Walker Riojas, her daughters two best friends.

She was preceeded in death by her daughter Sue Kathryn Chowning, her husband Kenneth McClelen, parents Eloise Chaffin-Gilbert and Ernest Andrew Birkett, sister Aurora Lee Jackson and special cousin Angus Bouie McCain and his wife Dodie. Our lives will forever be changed. Nothing will ever be the same from this point forward. Our hearts are broken, and we will miss you daily but, we will see you again someday. So, until then, our dear, sweet Nanny, I love you “the mostest!” Bye-Bye Sweet!

Friends are invited to visit with the family 5-8 p.m. on Monday, September 18, 2023, in the chapel of Shaffer Funeral Home, 1939 Sherwood Way San Angelo, Texas 76901. His door was always open if anyone wanted to ever come in and challenge him to a game of pool. Obituary Preview: Thornton Lester Dodds received his heavenly promotion on August 3, 2023. The world was blessed to have Lester for 76 years. He was born in Greenville, North Carolina on October 23,1946. his parents are Thornton A. Dodds and Mary T. Jones Dodds. Lester serviced honorably in the United States Air Force. He was an Electronics Technician. This knowledge served him well later as he loved computers and electronic gadgets. After his motorcycle accident Lester was quadriplegic. He had limited use of one arm, his thumb, and index finger. Lester's mind was not affected, and he was able to find many ways to use his gadgets to communicate. He also loved to create art on his computer with animations. Lester had little financial resources due to his care expenses, but he was very generous with what he had. He gave large donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital and gifted some foreign churches with money when able. Lester shared his cokes and candy with staff and residents. Recently he bought fans for the group area of his living unit. Lester received wonderful care from many at Baptist Memorial. At one time or another he was a resident in most every division in the Baptist Memorial facility. He is the longest tenured residence at Baptist Memorial with 38 years under their care. Lester considered them like family and appreciated all they did for him. Some jobs are not pleasant in care of a quadriplegic, but all care was given with love. Lester had a strong faith in Jesus Christ his Lord and Savior. Lester did not become bitter because of his accident, he became better. He listened and watched many hours of preaching and teaching from some of the world's best preachers. Lester always had faith and believed he would walk again. Today that faith is made sight. Lester has a new body and he's walking those streets of gold! Lester is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by two sisters, Linda Dodds and Lynne Hatton and nieces, Jennifer W. Orr and Sarah K. White. The names of surviving staff and other friends would fill the page. Over the last year or more Lester was also under the care of St. Gabriel's Hospice and received spiritual and medical support from them. Thanks to them also. It has been a long journey in life for Lester. He told several over his last days that it was a good life. If you were a part in any way of making him feel that wayI give you a special thanks and a "God Bless You!" You too can have Lester's peace and a good lifebe sure you know Jesus the way Lester did.
