A graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at 3 p.m. at Eureka Cemetery.  The family will greet friends following the service.
Mr. Minshew was born in Wayne County on August 27, 1948 to the late Earl and Alease Smith Minshew.
He was retired from Firestone in Wilson as a tire builder.
Mr. Minshew is survived by his wife; Deborah Minshew, one son; Edward Earl Minshew II of Fremont, two daughters; Melanie Minshew of Fremont and Denise Rhodes and husband, Jason of Florida; two sisters; Ramona Barbour of La Grange and Kay Smith and husband, Roger of Goldsboro; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Minshew was preceded in death by one daughter, Shannon Minshew.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home in Fremont with Pastor Bill Rose officiating.  Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12 until 12:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
Larry was born in West Virginia on November 2, 1946.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy and attended The First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Goldsboro while his health permitted.
He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth "Beth" Hooks McHaffie; his mother-in-law, Cecile Floars Hooks of Goldsboro and his sister-in-law, Edith Frances "Fran" Hooks Strader and husband, Charles of Wilson.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Rhua McHaffie; his adopted mother, Effie Bell McHaffie and his father-in-law, William "Bill" Ocsar Hooks Jr.

In addition to his father, Mr. Dail is survived by his wife, Carrie Dail; one brother, Michael Dail; nephews, Chris Dail, Tristan Dail, Waytt Davis, Johnathan Davis and Charlie Cushing; nieces, Tiffany Holland, Jessica Davis, Orana Dail and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Dail was preceded in death by his brother, James Robert Dail.

Obituary Preview: With profound sadness, the staff of Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home and the Wayne County Fire Marshall's Office announces the line of duty death of Chief James "Monk" Radford from Polly Watson Volunteer Fire Department.
Chief Radford passed away while responding to a call Saturday, February 5, 2022.
Funeral service to honor and celebrate his life will be held Friday, February 11, 2022 at 6 p.m. in the chapel of Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home, 102 N. Pine Street in Fremont. Visitation will follow the service.
A family graveside service will be held Saturday at his home with honors from the Fire Department Honor Guard including The Last Call.  All fire department, law enforcement and other first responders are asked to assemble at Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home on Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. to prepare for his final journey for the graveside service with his casket carried aboard his firetruck.  Friends may assemble at 10:15 a.m. along E. Main Street and N. Sycamore Street in Fremont to show their love, support and say farewell to Chief Radford for his dedication, sacrifice and commitment to his community throughout the years.
Chief Radford was born September 4, 1958 in Johnston County to the late Willie and Cassie Radford.
He retired from Fremont Volunteer Fire Department and was currently Chief of Polly Watson Volunteer Fire Department.  He will be missed by all.
Chief Radford is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Radford; one son, James Dustin Radford of Princeton and fiancée, Katelyn; one brother, Shelton Radford and wife, Nancy of Kenly; three sisters, Shirley Collier of Selma, Frances Baker and husband, L.C. of Kenly and Amy Anderson of Kenly; three grandchildren; Kayleigh Lynn Radford, Makena Radford and Kollin Radford and a host of nieces and nephews, close friends and his Fire Department family.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a host of brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her loving husband, Aubry Chakona; two daughters, Sharon Waugh and husband, Timothy of Knoxville, Tennessee and Teresa Nobles and husband, Jeff of Eureka; one brother, Joseph Meyer Jr. of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Dorothy Lane of Winston-Salem and Debbie Sue Meyer of Winston-Salem and three grandchildren, Gabriella, Kaylee and William.

Mrs. Goodwin was born in Wayne County on August 31, 1940 to the late Lonnie and Bessie Carlisle Kearney. She retired from being a beautician after 44 years of serving Fremont.  Mrs. Goodwin was a member of CrossPointe Baptist Church in Fremont and a lifetime member of the Fremont Rescue Squad Auxiliary.
She is survived by her loving husband, George “Buddy” Goodwin; one daughter, Phyllis Williams of Fremont; two grandchildren, Ashley B. Casey and Katie Bowyer and two great-grandchildren, Amelia Rose Casey and Micah Ray Casey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Carson Kearney and two sisters, Pattie L. Long and Sandra Kearney.

Angela’s wishes to be close to her family and live in the country with her chickens came true.  She was a very giving person and worried about those that had less than her. She cared for her boys and husband above herself. Her feistiness was a huge part of her personality and people didn’t forget her.
She is survived by her husband, Joby Iglesias; two sons, Joby Vincent Iglesias Jr. and Ryan Levi Iglesias, both of the home; her mother, Susan Shellhammer Hardy (Alan); her father, Michael Murray and wife, Lisa of West Virginia; one brother, John Henry Murray (Leslee) of Virginia; one sister, April Michelle Pigford (Jay) of Fremont; her mother-in-law, Jackie Severt (Jeff) of Idaho and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Iglesias was preceded in death by her dad, David McCluske and her father-in-law, Bill Iglesias.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Mattie Newsome and by her grandparents, Jimmy and Darlene Barnes.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 7, 2021 at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home in Fremont with burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 3 until 3:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Mooring was born in Wayne County on September 5, 1933 to the late Thomas Holland and Lillie Bedford Holland.  Lois was a secretary at Nahunta School and then retired with 30 years from Cherry Hospital. Lois was a dedicated member and volunteer with the Salvation Army.  She was a longtime member of Union Grove Free Will Baptist Church and was also a member and volunteer with Blended Fellowship.  She was a great prayer warrior for all she came in contact with.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Marcia Mooring of Goldsboro; three grandchildren, Karen Diane Howell and husband, Shawn, Crystal Mooring, and Mark Mooring and fiancée, Mystie Lucast; great grandchildren, Isabel Howell, Christian Mooring, Dominick Botsford, AnMari Botsford and Geneva Mooring; step grandchildren, Stephanie Herring and husband, Donald, Daphane Dilbeck and husband, Matthew Quick and step-great-grandchildren, Billy Herring and wife, Kayla and Victoria and Layla Dilbeck; a step-great-great-granddaughter, Malahna Herring and a faithful friend who was like a son, Buddy Hassell and wife, Cathy and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mooring was preceded in death by her husband, James David Mooring; her son, Eddie Joe Mooring and her brother, Charles T. Holland.
Flowers are welcome or donations in memory of Lois can be made  to Union Grove Free Will Baptist Church, Blended Fellowship or Salvation Army.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her son, Richard; son-in-law, Billy Toler;  sisters, Edna, Ethel Mae, Josie, Geraldine, Irene, Juanita and brothers, Alton and Charles Jr.
Visitation will be held Tuesday,  May 25, 2021 from 10 until 10:45 a.m. at Fremont Free Will Baptist Church.  The service will follow in the sanctuary at 11 a.m. with burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont.

Steve Allen Knotts - Unknown - April 16, 2021

Obituary Preview: A beloved husband, father and community member was lost on Friday, April 16, 2021 when Stephen Allen Knotts, 70, passed away in a vehicle accident in Northern Wayne county.
Steve was the lead instructor of Industrial Systems and Mechatronics at Wayne Community College, where he developed innovative and award-winning programs on robotics, electronic engineering, and industrial automation. He was heavily involved in Goldsboro's two community theater programs: Center Stage and Stagestruck. He built sets, special effects, and contributed to costumes for more than a dozen local theater and church productions.
In 2003, Steve led a grassroots fundraising and organizing effort to keep Fremont's public library branch open. His efforts made it possible to expand, renovate, and preserve the Fremont library branch where it remains open today.
Steve was a constant supporter of the family's church, Cornerstone Assembly of God, giving freely of his expertise and time to all sorts of needs.
Steve was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Sheila D. Knotts and five children: Chris Knotts and wife Meighan of Hillsborough, Sara Knotts of Fremont, Abby K. Rauscher and husband Josh of Cary, Katie Knotts of Chicago, and Jesse Knotts of Fremont. One of Steve's greatest joys was also his eight grandchildren: Toby, David, Janna, Nathaniel, Elisa, Catherine, Lela Jane, and Lillian. He's also survived by his mother Daisy Knotts and siblings Kris, Donna and David of Gallipolis, OH. Steve touched the lives of many students, friends, and community members.
Visitation and a memorial service for Steve will be held outdoors at Cornerstone Assembly of God in Fremont, NC on Wednesday April 21. Visitation is from 12-2 and service is at 3. Bring a lawn chair and join us. Covid protocols will apply during the outdoor services.

David Whitley Mayo - February 27, 1939 - March 24, 2021

Obituary Preview: David Whitley Mayo, 82, of Wrightsville Beach passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at Vidant Edgecombe Hospital in Tarboro.
A graveside service will be held Monday, March 29, 2021 at 3 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont.  The family will receive friends following the service.  All in attendance, are asked to please wear a mask and practice social distancing.
David Mayo was born in Wayne County, North Carolina in 1939 to the late George Edward Mayo Jr. and Susie Mae Whitley Mayo. He grew up in Fremont and graduated from Fremont High School in 1958. He graduated from East Carolina University in 1962 with a BA in Health and Physical Education. He also swam on the ECU swim team. He received his MA from the University of Alabama.
David taught a year of Physical Education in Goldsboro before moving to London where he began his career for the Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS). David taught PE for service member children on military bases throughout the world including England, Turkey, Germany, Philippians, and Japan.
David retired from teaching in 1992 and moved to Wrightsville Beach, NC where he enjoyed biking, swimming, and fishing. An avid biker, David participated in numerous distance rides including from the mountains to the coast of NC a dozen times. In 2009 at age 70, David rode his bicycle solo from San Diego, CA to Wrightsville Beach (3553 miles). At age 75 David rode down the west coast of the US from Vancouver, BC Canada to the Mexican Border.
When not on his bike, David enjoyed spending time with his nephews and nieces, traveling, and watching high school and UNCW sporting events.
He is survived by one sister, Mary Sue Beamon and husband, Dr. Kenneth Dwain Beamon of Tarboro; a sister-in-law, Becky Mayo of Goldsboro; nieces, Margaret-Ann Mayo, Susie Beamon Magill and Dr. Virginia Mayo Buckman and nephews, Ken Beamon, Anthony Beamon and George Mayo IV.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Mayo was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. George Mayo III.
