Obituary Preview: Doris Hilda Marie Showell Jackson of Clarksville, Delaware, passed away peacefully, on Sunday, May 9, 2021, surrounded by family, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Georgetown, Delaware, at the age of 88.
Doris was born on Wednesday, March 29, 1933, in Muddy Neck of Sussex County, Delaware, to the late Edith Perkins and Thomas Lewis (Fred Perkins). She attended Backwater Elementary School in Clarksville, Delaware. and later completed her education and received her GED, at the age of 62.
Doris was ready to take on the world as she left Sussex County and moved to Washington, D.C. where she was employed in the General Service Administration and the Naval Department for over twenty-five years. Later, she decided to return to her roots in Delaware, and went to work for the Carousel Hotel in Ocean City, Maryland as the Housekeeping Manager. Then she sought employment at the Stockley Center as an attendant where her passion for caring for the handicapped was born. Doris later retired on disability; however, she pursued her passion and became a foster parent for clients Benji Smith, Avery Douglas and David Reynolds from the Stockley Center, for over 26 years. She also was a foster grandparent to many, for over 15 plus years. She loved to care for people that were unable to care for themselves. Doris was a member of Union Wesley United Methodist Church in Clarksville, Delaware. She served on the Trustee and Usher Boards and continued her love for people through the United Methodist Women’s ministry. Doris was also a Past Worthy Matron of Lily of the Valley Chapter No. 14, in Clarksville, Delaware, Order of the Eastern Star (OES), Prince Hall Affiliation of Clarksville, Delaware and Past Most Ancient Matron of Rahab Court #3 of the Heroines of Jericho, Prince Hall Affiliation (PHA) in Clarksville, Delaware. She was a member of Fez Court No. 211, Daughters of Isis in Dover, Delaware, and a member of the Order of the Golden Circle No. 93, Prince Hall Affiliation in Milton, Delaware. At the time of her passing, Doris was a member of Rock of Ages Chapter #15, OES-PHA in Milford, Delaware
Doris met the love of her life and consequently, on the twelfth day of November 2006, married John H. Jackson. She loved her married life, including the many trips they took together, and spending time with her family. She always had a smile and would make you laugh whenever you came in contact with her. Doris surely loved life and people.
In addition to her mother, Doris was preceded in death by her husband; John H. Jackson, and two sons; Willie Massey, Jr. and Willis Massey; three aunts, Georganna Shavies, Dearie Showell and Francis Showell; six uncles, Robert Showell, Clinton Showell, Tony Showell, Russell Showell, Floyd Showell, and Pinkney Shavies.
She leaves to continue her legacy, her children, Deborah Melvin (Darrell) of Georgetown, DE; Andre Worrell of Dover, DE; Diane Gillette of North Carolina; Darlene Showell (Rick) of Millsboro, DE, BettyAnn and Harvey Smith of Berlin, MD and Jean Jackson of Salisbury, MD; two sisters, Mary Ellen Diggs of Bayard, DE and Maria (Ricky) Perkins of Selbyville, DE; 17 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; 13 great-great children; two great-great-great grandchildren; a godchild, Unique Mona Hall of Georgetown, DE; one daughter-in-law, Lillian Massey of Selbyville, DE; a special aunt, Cora Showell of Columbia, MD (age 92), extended children, Harry Crapper of Dover, DE, Petra Trader of Wilmington, DE, James Trader and Donovan Slade of Seaford, DE; special friends, Elton and Mae Hopkins; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other close relatives and friends.

Eddie attended school in Frankford and Laurel, Delaware. His last place of employment was Amick Farms in Hurlock, Maryland, which lasted 14 ½ years. Throughout his life, Eddie enjoyed tending to horses for the races, fishing and he loved to work in the yard.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Samuel Ames, Jr. and Samuel Floyd; and two sisters, Mary Brown and Willie Mae Jenkins.

Obituary Preview: James W. King, Sr., was born in Angola, Delaware, on Monday, January 18, 1937, to Norman and Helen King. He departed this life on Wednesday, March 31, 2021.
James was a truck driver and feed mill worker at MoPac Trucking Lines, where he operated a log truck.
James enjoyed hunting, gardening, watching wrestling, the National Association of Stock Car Racing, LLC, (NASCAR) and was an avid handyman. His greatest pastimes were going to the carnival to get oyster sandwiches and walks in the woods.
James was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; two brothers; his first wife of 27 years, Margaret King; sons, James W. King, Jr. and Roger Lee King; a great-granddaughter; and his second wife of 30 years, Mary A. Dunn-King, who sadly, passed the day before his passing, on Tuesday, March 30, 2021.
James is survived by two daughters, Emilie Reynolds of Dover, DE and Claudine Moore (Tommy) of Bridgeville, DE; eight stepchildren, Edward Adams (Pam) of Seaford, DE, Fred Adams of Federalsburg, MD, Doris Mull (Brian) of Australia, Wayne Adams of Eldorado, MD, Mimi Lahman (Fell) of Laurel, DE, Clarence Dunn, Jr. of Virginia, Steve Dunn (Marion) of Mardela Springs, MD and Mary Jane McDorman (Jerry) of Bridgeville, DE; seven grandchildren; 19 step grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 30 step great-grandchildren and four step great-great grandchildren. He loved attending horse races and when he could no longer go in person, his daughter found them on the television, for him to enjoy.
Edward is survived by his loving daughter and caregiver, Andra Cannon and her family and will be sorely-missed.

She gained her wings on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, on her 96th birthday, at her daughter’s home in Bridgeville, Delaware, where she was surrounded by Jessica Garcia, the nurse and Mimi White, her CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) from Vitas Hospice.
Mary was an avid Bingo player and could sit and memorize her cards without dabbing them. She enjoyed going to the slots, having yard sales, going to the auctions and playing cards with her grandchildren. She was known as a great country cook. Some of her favorites were potato salad, macaroni and cheese and dumplings. She loved hosting family dinners.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by three sisters; six brothers; her husband of 24 years, Clarence R. Dunn, Sr., who passed in 1981; a grandson, Adrian Adams, in 1985; and a step-great grandson.
Mary’s husband of 30 years, James W. King, Sr., followed her in death on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at her daughter’s home in Bridgeville, Delaware.
Mary leaves to mourn her passing, eight children, Edward Adams (Pam) of Seaford, DE, Fred Adams of Federalsburg, MD, Wayne Adams of Eldorado, MD, Doris Mull (Brian) of Australia, Mimi Lahman (Fell) of Laurel, DE, Clarence R. She was raised in Milton, Delaware, but often traveled as a child, as her father was in the Army.
Meika's children were her world and she would go above and beyond for them, even as adults. But it was the grandchildren who really had her heart. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren whenever she could; family gatherings and dinners, knitting, and DIY (Do It Yourself ) projects.Meika loved butterflies and her favorite colors were purple and black. When she had free-time, she binged-watched, The First 48 Hours and Criminal Minds.
Meika was preceded in death by her father, Lenwood Eley Jr.; and two sets of twin grandsons, Jayden and Kayden Felder and Ma'kye andKa'sye Eley.

Obituary Preview: Donald P. Griffin, son of the late Alexander and Arline Simpers Griffin, was born on Friday, December 31, 1926, in Seaford, Delaware. He transitioned, peacefully at home, on Thursday, March 18, 2021.
Donald, known as “Griff” to many, received his education at Frederick Douglass School in Seaford, Delaware, and graduated from Delaware State High School in Dover, Delaware. Upon graduating, Donald served in the Pacific Theater in the United States Army and was honorably-discharged on September 7, 1947.
Donald received his barbering license with the State of Delaware and had a very lucrative business. Everyone would come from far and near, to Griff’s Barbershop. Donald was also a Youth Rehabilitation Counselor with the State of Delaware, retiring in 1991.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman, jazz enthusiast and had a love for cooking. He enjoyed preparing wild game such as ground hog, muskrat, racoon/coon, rabbit and squirrel, just to name a few. One of Donald’s traditions on his birthday was to prepare a feast of wild game for his friends and family to enjoy. Donald also enjoyed collecting trains. They were on display for all who came to visit him.
Donald was a member of Macedonia A.M.E. Church in Seaford, Delaware and enjoyed hearing the choir sing. Macedonia was the Griffin Family’s Church home.
Donald’s legacy will continue to live on through his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his keen sense of humor and one of his favorite sayings, “The Man with the Plan”.
Donald leaves to mourn his passing, his devoted wife of 38 years, Barbara Holden; children, Paula E. Duffy, Shari L. Adams, Leah D. Hicks and Mahala B. Pratt (Chaka Pratt); eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one sister, Irene Griffin Taylor; special nephews, Don Gaines and Derrick Griffin; and many other loving relatives. Obituary Preview: Ajai Amory Long, was born on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, Delaware to Patricia Ann Brewer Long and James Emory Long, Jr. Ajai departed this life on Friday, March 5, 2021, at Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware.
Ajai, affectionately known as “Stinky Butt” and “Butt-Butt”, was a wonderful addition to the family, bringing so much joy, love and hope. His favorite cartoon characters were Morphle and Mila.
Ajai loved to respond to his dad in whatever he was doing, including eating. He would watch and imitate, waiting to get his share. Although his life seemed to have been cut short, we praise God for the time we had with him, being able to nurture and care for him.
He was preceded in death by his great grandmother, Arbella Fitchett; uncle, Michael Brewer; great aunt, Patricia McDowell; and great uncles, Chris and Johnny Brewer.

Wayne Moore - June 04, 1958 - February 20, 2021

Obituary Preview: Spencer “Wayne” Moore, 62-years-old, passed away on February 20, 2021, after a long battle with cancer. He was at home when he died, surrounded by his wife, parents, son, and other family.
Wayne was born in Norfolk, Virginia, on June 4, 1958.
Wayne was dedicated to his work, which spanned numerous industries and occupations, and usually involved fixing things that needed fixing, be it cars, houses, boats and even people. He worked at Performance Water Company and built water rooms for dialysis clinics. Later on, he worked as a bio med tech for dialysis companies like DaVita, DCA, DSI and US Renal Care, traveling to different states to maintain water rooms and dialysis machines. Wayne was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2006, which later progressed throughout his body to his kidneys, lungs, and bones. But, Wayne kept working throughout his battle with cancer and dialysis, all the way to the very end. Wayne married Jimmel on April 16, 2012, and they built a life together in Queenstown, Maryland, before relocating to Delaware for work. Wayne loved tools and cars, and for him, being on his boat was heaven on earth. When he wasn't working or undergoing treatment, he spent most of his time fishing, traveling, and hiking. He was also a patient advocate for Cancer Treatment Centers of America. His fellow patients admired him for his positive attitude. He tried to inspire them, telling them all that they could beat cancer! During a brief respite from his treatments, Wayne traveled to the Philippines, where he hoped to retire. In his later years, when cancer and dialysis robbed him of his strength and stamina, it also gave him a softness that we treasured. He taught us kindness, patience and to be strong. He always said, "Life is too short to be unhappy."
Wayne was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Glen.
Wayne is survived by his spouse, Jimmel Rueda-Moore; his parents, Lewis and Carole; son, Carl and daughter-in-law, Sarah and son, Chad and daughter-in-law, Jessica; four grandchildren, Peyton, Lilli, Emmett and Eleanor; brother, Ray; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Wayne will be remembered for his teasing jokes, his wildly entertaining stories, his unfailing work ethic, his generous smile, and his willingness to help others. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

Clifton Everett Anderson - March 24, 1947 - February 20, 2021

Obituary Preview: Clifton Everette Anderson, affectionately called “Skinny”, was born on Monday, March 24, 1947, to the late Stephen and Bertie Hopkins, in Bridgeville, Delaware. He peacefully departed this life, at his home in Bridgeville, on Saturday, February 20, 2021. Clifton received his early childhood education at Phillis Wheatley Elementary School. He attended William C. Jason Comprehensive High School in Georgetown, Delaware, graduating in June of 1966.
Clifton was employed at Southern Metals Fabrication in Seaford, Delaware. While there, he was instrumental in developing a process to reduce one of the waste streams, saving the company thousands of dollars annually, for which he received an honorary award of achievement for his unique creation and design of this process. He retired after many years of service.
Clifton possessed the inherent ability to be creative and skillful in designing many objects, from what appeared to be useless, into something practical and sometimes beautiful. For this reason, he earned the nicknames of the “Black McGyver” and “Inspector General”.
Clifton was an avid collector of antique and unusual items, and would travel near and far to antique shops, sales locations and auctions, to peruse these sites, in search of his treasures. You could always find him and his road partner, Anthony Cuffee, at Spence’s Bazaar in Dover, Delaware, on one of their favorite excursions. He was once told that he had everything in his truck but the kitchen sink. He literally showed up a few weeks later with an old kitchen sink. Other hobbies included fishing, watching and videotaping birds and sitting in his daughters’ garages, reminiscing about the old times.
Clifton enjoyed time spent with his granddaughter, Cetera. He also enjoyed his time with his son, Jamie, whom he mentored on learning his skills to fix and repair anything in need of restoration. When asked to fix something, his reply was, “I’ll show you how to fix it”.
Clifton will be remembered as a genuine person, with whom everyone who knew him, knew where they stood with him. He loved to search for and to give that special gift that he knew would touch your heart or put a smile on your face. It brought him joy when he was invited to come by to partake of one of his favorite wildlife dishes that had been prepared. He also enjoyed the special attention he received from his daughters, Elishia “Minxie” and Sherid, who lavished him with gifts of love and appreciation.
In addition to his parents, Clifton was predeceased by three sisters, Hattie Louise Anderson, Betty Ann Anderson Davenport and Joyce Marie Hopkins Jenkins; brother, Stephen “Junie” Anderson; and one nephew, Maseo Davenport, Jr.
Clifton leaves to cherish his loving memory, five daughters, Elishia “Minxie” Brown, Sherid Ann Collie, Alice Mia Parker, Tia Jones and Tussia Cornish; one son, Jameel “Jamie” Bolden; two sisters, Kathleen Fountain (Charles) and Rose A. Teagle (William); two brothers, Ernest Anderson (Amelia) and Randol Hopkins (Roberta); thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two special adopted daughters, Smiya Abbott and Ahna Donahue; one goddaughter, Jean Banks; special friends, Anthony Cuffee, Howard Bailey, Henry Fields and Tom Sharp; one very special brother-in-law, Charles “Chas” Fountain, who prepared him hot and delicious meals; and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Alexis loved her family and had many friends. Her sweet infectious smile could light up any room and will be missed by all. Alexis was the kind of person who would do absolutely anything to help a friend in need.

Obituary Preview: Willia Myrtle Waller Alston was born on Friday, February 28, 1930, in Granville County, North Carolina. She was one of 12 children born to the late John H. Waller and Willie L. Waller. She peacefully departed this life Monday, February 15, 2021, at her daughter’s home in Richmond, Virginia, at 90 years old.
Willia was educated in Durham, North Carolina and continued her studies in Raleigh at Shaw University. She went on to turn her passion for food into a career as a dietician and later became a cafeteria manager at East Millsboro Elementary School, Millsboro, Delaware. After many dedicated years in the food service industry, she retired from Howard T. Ennis School in the Indian River School District.
On August 9, 1956, Willia was united in holy matrimony to William “Bill” Alston, Sr. The couple lived most of their lives in Seaford, Delaware and were blessed with four children – Debra, Pam, Billy and Tony. Bill Sr., preceded her in death on August 4, 2013.
Willia was the epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister and friend and was always thinking of others first. Anytime anyone visited her home, she would immediately offer them something to eat or drink. If the family came to visit, she would insist they spend the night, never wanting anyone to leave. When the time to part ways eventually came, she refused to let her guests leave empty-handed and always had goodies prepared for them to take home. In times when she wasn’t able to be with her loved ones physically, she would frequently mail care packages to make sure everyone was taken care of.
Her absolute greatest joy in life was the love of her family. Along with her husband, she loved to support her children in their many scholastic and athletic endeavors. When the grandchildren came along, they continued to do the same. Willia loved to sing and was a long-standing member of Macedonia A.M.E. Church where she was a part of the Senior Choir. With her beautiful soprano voice, she was known to break out at any given time with an encouraging song or her favorite saying, “We’re gonna make it..”
She was loved by many and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.
In addition to her parents and husband, Willia was preceded in death by nine siblings; Foye James, Aserlee Evans, Reecy Justice, Carlyle Waller, Saul Waller, Irene Evans, Maggie Thaxton, Martha Waller and Dorothy Waller.
Willia’s beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children, Debra Green, Durham, North Carolina, Pamela Ross, Richmond, Virginia, William, Jr. (Sonya), Magnolia, Delaware and Anthony (Andrea), Newark, Delaware; grandchildren, Natausha Pettiford, Lemont Batts, Byron Alston (Taleah), Shakira Ross, Alaina Alston and Aidan Alston; step-grandchildren, Jordan T. Donald was educated in the Caroline County Public Schools, graduating from North Caroline High School in Ridgely, Maryland. Donald enlisted in the Army in 1971, where he became a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. He was awarded several medals during his stay in the military. Donald was later honorably discharged and pursued a career as an over the road trucker for twenty plus years. He loved driving and visiting the fifty states. He also loved finding family during his travels. Donald later decided to go to school to become a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed learning how to operate the equipment, but that was not a passion. Later, Donald moved to Wilmington, Delaware, where he had several odd jobs. He decided to reroute his path, follow his passion and go to school to become a Certified Massage Therapist. He enjoyed talking to his clients and did the very best job he could do, until the pandemic of 2019. Donald then came back to Denton, Maryland, because of his illness.
Donald loved family and family events, even though he was the last one to get there. He was always the life of the party. He wasn’t one to gossip, to be mean to folks or to start an argument or a fight. He loved everybody. He was always the same regardless of when he saw you. He’d greet you with a smile, a simple joke or some homemade saying. You couldn’t ask for a better person. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Alice Brown, a sister Karen Beck, a brother Carlos Brooks and hosts of aunts and uncles.
Donald leaves to cherish his memories, a daughter, Quinche’ Fuller of Winston Salem, NC; one son, Derrick Clark (Rachel) from Canton, GA; three sisters, Wanda Green (Joe) from Denton, MD, Marcieta Gibson from Denton, MD and Cheryl Johnson (Donnell) from Silver Spring, MD; four grandchildren, Patrick, Jujuan, Erica and Eden Clark; three nieces, Kiana, Ebony and Alicia; seven nephews, Devon, Brent, Tre’Von, Carlos Shannon, Kiah and Dominique; and a host of great nieces, great nephews and friends. He also leaves to mourn, his companion and confidant, Myrtle Griffin, Denton, MD, as well as Kevin Butler, George Butler and Melissa Sampson.
Donald will be missed by all who knew him.

Tony was an excellent cook and loved to share meals with friends and family. People always requested his greens and fried chicken. He always took his time preparing the meals, which were the talk of the gatherings. He never met a stranger and was known to treat friends like family and strangers like friends. Whether it was offering a warm meal, providing shelter or lending an ear, Tony was always willing to do anything for his family and friends. He was passionate about helping others and would chauffeur friends and loved ones to doctor appointments, hospitals, shopping, or just traveling.
Although Tony never had any children, he lovingly taught, advised and disciplined his favorite nephew, “Dino”, as well as many other nieces and nephews along the way.
Tony was preceded in death by his brothers, Alonza and Thomas Elliott.
Tony is survived by one sister, Velma (Richard) Norwood of Millsboro, Delaware and one brother, John Martin, Jr. of Seaford, Delaware.
