Al enlisted in the Navy and was ultimately assigned to engineering duties in his service. He then went on to earn his bachelors degree in electrical engineering from UCLA and was hired by Autonetics, which later became Rockwell International Corporation (now part of Boeing) and worked there until his retirement in 1990. Mid-career, he earned his Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from California State University, Fullerton.
In 1959, at a youth Christian Church Conference he met his wife, Betty Archuleta and they married in July 23, 1960. In January 1964 their first child, Marcus, was born and was followed by their daughter, Marcia, in September 1966. Al and Betty joined the Placentia Presbyterian Church in 1965 , which has been a rock of support throughout their lives and their children as well. Al was a regular participant in the men’s bible study, taught by Bob Watkins. Al’s love for creative engineering didn’t stop with his retirement. His major hobby was his engineering work, which he continued to engage in daily until just weeks before his passing.

Nick Blair - October 04, 1928 - February 04, 2023

Departed: 02/04/2023 (Fullerton)
Obituary Preview: Nick Blair, (Miklos János Bleier), passed away February 4th, 2023 at a robust 94 years old. He was born October 4, 1928 in Hungary to Rozsa and Rezso Bleier and was an only child. Nick beat the odds over and over again in his full and interesting life. When he was a teenager he and his family were loaded on a rail car and sent to Auschwitz, his parents died there at the hands of the Nazis. He was transferred to another concentration camp outside of Munich Germany called Dachau. He miraculously survived, was liberated by allied forces in 1945 and eventually had the opportunity to come to the United States where he had an uncle and started adult life in the Los Angeles area with his Americanized name. He joined the US Air Force and became a laboratory and X-ray technician. During a hospital stay he met Virginia Falwell, a nurse, and they married soon after. They raised 3 children, Mark, Viki Sue and Rich. (Another son given up for adoption by Virginia, prior and unknown to Nick, surfaced much later but that’s another story, welcome to the family JP). Nick carved out a career and family life in the face of overt racism and bias due to his thick accent and obvious foreign immigrant status. Nick had a very strong personality and voiced his opinions with bold intention. Nick highly valued family, hard work, honor, and education. He was very proud all his children went to college received degrees; this was actually not up for discussion. Nick was a family man with an extreme work ethic and set the example as an unwavering dedicated provider, husband, and father. He was tough, a professional survivor, which is why we believe he lived so long. In his last years during Covid his daughter Viki Sue moved Nick back to Fullerton, CA from Oregon where she and her husband Dave lovingly cared for him. He survived several bouts of illness that looked, at the time, like “this must be the end” only to rally, rebound and amaze us all. In the true end he was surrounded by his children and peacefully passed. Nick extends his legacy of strength and dedication to his children, many grand and great grandchildren, and all those that knew him.

Paul Sailhamer - February 28, 1945 - July 10, 2022

Departed: 07/10/2022 (Fullerton)
Obituary Preview: Paul Sailhamer, 77, husband, father, grandfather, brother, pastor, teacher, mentor, and friend, passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord at his home in Fullerton on July 10, following a battle with prostate cancer. His career in vocational Christian ministry spanned five decades and included everything from Saturday night Youth for Christ rallies to European church-history tours. Paul had a zest for life, a knack for creative ideas and a love for God’s Word and the church.Born to Claude and Belva Sailhamer, Paul spent his early childhood years in Vicksburg, MS as the middle child in a family of five with his older sister, Claudette (Miller), and younger brother, John. Spending what he would call his “Tom Sawyer years” in the shadows of the deep south’s civil war monuments sparked a curiosity and appreciation for history that he would never shake. The family relocated to Long Beach, CA in 1956, when Paul became a “Californian for life.” After graduating from Millikan High School, he began working as a youth pastor at Grace Community Church in the San Fernando Valley while attending California State University, Northridge, majoring in history. He later earned his Masters of Divinity at Talbot Theological Seminary. Paul met his wife, Sue Ferguson, at Forest Home Christian Conference Center where he spent 3 years as program director and led the summer staff choir. They married in 1975 and were blessed with 2 sons, James and Michael. In 1980, Paul accepted the call to a pastoral position at the First Evangelical Free Church of Fullerton, CA, where he served in executive leadership roles for the next 19 years and remained involved as a member and lay-leader until his death. Paul became president of The Servant’s Trust, a Christian Foundation, in 1999 and in 2004 he began Pilgrim’s Projects, where he consulted with various Christian organizations and led conferences and tours in the U.S. and abroad. A well-earned reputation as a trip-planner and tour leader afforded Paul the opportunity to make numerous trips to Europe and Israel, helping to lead travelers on adventures that would stimulate the minds and hearts of many, including some who would become repeat travel partners and dear friends. Other favorite domestic travel destinations included Hanalei Bay, Kauai, Alaska and Florida. In addition to his wife, Sue, sons James and Mike, and sister Claudette (Miller), Paul is survived by 6 grandchildren; Abigail, Luke, Lincoln, Cora, Michael and Bryce and nine nieces and nephews. His brother John preceded him in death (2017). Paul enthusiastically embraced his role as “Pop,” attending countless little league, flag football, basketball and volleyball games. But perhaps his favorite grandparent role was participating in homeschool education as an adjunct teacher, creating and teaching a course on his favorite literary work, Pilgrim’s Progress, that all 6 grandchildren would eventually complete.A service celebrating Paul's life will be held Saturday, August 6 at 1pm at Fullerton Free Church: 2801 Brea Blvd, Fullerton CA 92835. The service will be live-streamed and the link will be added to this post when it becomes available.
