Barbara Carrasquillo - February 20, 1943 - May 08, 2024

Departed: 05/08/2024 (Bronx)
Obituary Preview: We announce the passing of Barbara Carrasquillo with a heavy heart. Barbara was someone special to so many of us.
She joins her family in heaven: parents Rita and Joseph and all her siblings Joey, Donald, Rita, and Kathy. She leaves behind her children Lori-Ann, Leah, and Lynell and her son-in-laws Sal, Steven, and Sean Sr.; Beloved Aunt to Ian Shayne; grandmother to Alexis, Briana, Nicolas, Carina, Christopher, Sean Jr., Evan, and Ryan; great-grandma to Tripp, Lorenzo, Lilliana, Ainsley, and Addison. She loved her furbaby Tiger and treated her friends and caregiver Glennis like family.
Dearest Mom, you are so loved; we will miss you helping us celebrate and plan all the important moments in our lives and our children's lives. Your special gift was ensuring our babies came home in an outfit picked out just for them upon their birth.
Barbara's smile is imprinted in our hearts and minds forever, and she was always delighted to take a selfie to mark the occasion. You can hear her grandkids talking about how she was the one adult who was always up for a swim and ready to do the first cannonball into the pool. Barbara always showed deep appreciation and gratitude for gifts, but gift-giving was her strength. She loved to shop, wrap, and surprise us with what we needed for each holiday ritual and event. She loved collectibles, dolls, and stuffies.
Mom/Barbara, we will miss your candor and spirit. Mom was pretty picky, but a simple hot dog and some mac and cheese did the trick when it came to food. She loved sweets; on one of her last shopping excursions, Mom picked up a big bag of sour gummy worms for her grandkids.
Our family has basked in the glow of Barbara's unconditional love for 81 years, and our hearts are so heavy with grief as we bid her farewell as she joins her family in heaven.
We are all blessed to have known our sweet Barbara Ann Carrasquillo.

Morgan J Kuhl - November 21, 1966 - May 01, 2024

Departed: 05/01/2024 (Bronx)
Obituary Preview: Morgan John Kuhl, a devoted husband, loving brother, and proud uncle died peacefully at his home in Brewster, NY on May 1st, 2024. Morgan was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in August of 2023. He was 57 years young.
Morgan is survived by his loving husband Joe and his siblings Martin and his wife Jean; Michael and his wife Kathleen; Maryanne and her husband Gerald. Morgan’s brother Matthew and sister-in-law Ellen preceded him in death.
He was employed as a deputy chief with The City of New York Department of Sanitation. He was less than two years from retirement at the time of his passing and was looking forward to the many adventures that lay ahead for him and his husband Joe. Morgan loved sailing, RVing, Broadway musicals, and his dog Bailey. Morgan held a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, a master’s degree in divinity and a master’s degree in psychology.
One of five children, Morgan was born on November 21st, 1966, in The Bronx, New York, to Martin and Margaret (nee McCarron) Kuhl. Morgan’s father Martin passed away just two weeks before Morgan’s birth.
Morgan was a beloved uncle to eight nieces and nephews: Jena, Martin Jr., and wife Anna, Jake, Michael Jr., Matthew and wife Genesis, Justin and wife Ashley, Dylan and wife Kerri, and nephew Aidan. Morgan took great joy in the love they shared and was proud to see his family grow to include ten great nieces and nephews, Lilliana, Aliyah, Martin, William, Brian, Daniella, Gia, Vincent, Dylan Jr., Megan, Damien and Bruce.
Morgan was humble, kind, loving and compassionate. His wit, wisdom, interest, and etiquette were an example for us all, and his Irish gift of gab was legendary. He was an old soul in a new world; at home in any setting, and he always knew the right word and the right gesture to instill ease and confidence in a soul. His calm, resourceful nature made him the friend you wanted to have most when your life got tough.
Morgan was an avid cook and foodie. He frequently hosted dinner parties for friends and family, and he proudly served up tasty food and delicious anecdotes, sprinkled liberally with songs and (corny) jokes. Joe was his dutiful sous chef and dining with him was always an event. He turned out pasta, pork chops, potatoes, and a flourless chocolate torte that ensured his nieces and nephews returned to visit him.
He handled his burdens with dignity and grace, as he faced all of his life’s challenges. His illness was shorter than what most with this disease must endure. Still, his deep faith, the love of friends and family, and his dear Joe sustained him.
May Morgan’s spirit continue to inspire us, and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew him. He will be forever in our minds and in our hearts and may he rest in eternal peace.

young children and eventually retired to Sunrise FL to escape the NY winters and be closer to her beloved sisters.
For reasons no one remembers they all claimed to be 2 years younger than they actually were on their arrival from Cuba. So she actually reached 100 years old this past December. She’ll be remembered for her happy disposition and most of all - her red lipstick.

Louis Orlando Soltren - March 01, 1957 - April 11, 2024

Departed: 04/11/2024 (Bronx)
Obituary Preview: Louis “Peabody” Soltren January 03, 1957 – April 11, 2024
Louis Orlando Soltren, also known as “Peabody,” age 67, passed away in his sleep while in the company of his daughter Ayla and son-in-law Ben on April 11, 2024, in Saint Paul MN after a lengthy battle with Early Onset Alzheimer’s Disease. He was born in Bronx, NY on January 3rd, 1957, to his parents Rafael Soltren who passed away in September of 1998 and his beautiful mother Agrippina Sanchez who recently passed on April 12, 2024. He is survived by his sons; Louis Soltren, Alberto Torres, and Matthew Soltren, his daughters Ayla Litsenberger and Kiana Soltren, his daughter-in-law Elizabeth Rodriguez, his son-in-law Ben Litsenberger, his future daughter-in-law Leah Kelley, along with his bonus children Ariel and Sade Uffre. He is survived by his sister Miriam Soltren and brothers Willy Soltren, Rafael Soltren, Neco Soltren, and Raymond Soltren. He is also survived by his wife from whom he was legally separated, Wendy Uffre. He will be remembered forever and loved always by his 15 grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and closest friends.
He had a successful career in the construction industry for over 23 years and last worked as a supervising foreman for Flintlock Construction Services before his retirement in 2009. After being legally separated from his wife in 2013 he often traveled to see family members in different states. When he went missing in April of 2016, he remained with his daughter Ayla while living in MD, VA, FL, and finally Cottage Grove, MN until late October of 2022 when he entered into Memory Care in Cottage Grove, MN and Saint Paul, MN. Despite his cognitive decline he always remembered to make his weekly calls on Sundays (with Ayla’s assistance) to family members whom he treasured. He was a favored resident by staff while in memory care due to his humor, laughter, and kindness. He received Jesus as his Lord and Savior in 2013 and was baptized in 2019 at Bay Chapel in Tampa, FL. He was a devout believer, as his heart for Christ was consistently demonstrated in his daily interactions with others, through his post on Facebook, and his weekly commitment to church attendance. Despite his struggles with this disease his faith never wavered, instead it was a significant source of continuous comfort and peace. He once said, “My Bible is my passport and Jesus is the pilot, destination…heaven.”
Louis identified as a comedian ever since he was a kid. His sense of humor remained an intricate part of his character and reflected what he loved to do most for others – make them laugh. He once said, “Every time you are able to find humor in difficult situations, you win every time.” And when his kids tried to get him to stop smoking, he would say, “I’m not a quitter” and laugh his awesome laugh. He had a beautiful heart that did not hide his love for others. He was an incredible father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and son who loved the New York Yankees, listening to Soft Rock, and most importantly being with his family. If he could offer encouragement today he would say what he has said in the past which is: “Everything will work out in the end, and you don’t need to know how, you just need to trust in God and believe that it will. Amen.” And “Your peace is more important than driving yourself crazy trying to understand why things happened the way it did. Just let it go.”
Celebration of life is expected to be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Schuyler Hills Funeral Home (3535 E Tremont Ave, Bronx, NY 10465) from 8am – 11am. The burial will take place at 11:30am shortly after at St. Raymond’s Cemetery (2600 Lafayette Ave, Bronx NY 10465).

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It is usually published in a newspaper, online, or in a funeral home's website to inform friends, family, and community members of the person's passing.

What is the purpose of an obituary?

The primary purpose of an obituary is to share the news of a person's passing with others, providing details about their life, accomplishments, and surviving family members. It also serves as a way to honor and celebrate the person's life, while providing information about funeral or memorial services.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the obituary is written by a family member or close friend of the deceased, often with the assistance of a funeral home or obituary writer. In some cases, the deceased may have written their own obituary in advance.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include information about funeral or memorial services, charitable donations, and other relevant details.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or website it will be published in. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from a few sentences to a few paragraphs at most.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and websites allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a great way to personalize the tribute and help readers connect with the person who has passed away.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies widely depending on the publication or website. Some newspapers and websites offer free or low-cost obituaries, while others may charge several hundred dollars or more for a single notice.
