Marian Ann Gmeinder - April 30, 1930 - April 09, 2022

Departed: 04/09/2022 (Watertown)
Obituary Preview: Marian Ann Gmeinder (nee Weisensel) met the Lord on April 9, 2022.
Marian was born April 30, 1930 in Sun Prairie, WI to Leo and Catherine (Duschack) Weisensel. She attended Sacred Hearts School and graduated from Sun Prairie High School in 1948.  She was very active in Seminary Springs and Burke 4-H.
Marian started entertaining at age 15 when she made an album with her brother Vernon titled “If I Had a Nickel.” After graduating from high school, she had two radio shows at WFOW: telling stories to children and interviewing 4-H leaders.
The most joyful part of Marian’s life was her marriage to Fred Gmeinder. Their union began September 24, 1952 and lasted 69 happy years. Together they raised six wonderful children. She had two careers: bookkeeper for Gmeinder Welding, Inc. for the 42 years of its existence; and homemaker, which didn’t end until now.
A committed volunteer and community servant, Marian was the first woman elected to a governance position in the Village of Marshall. She served as trustee for three terms and as interim president. She also championed the Marshall Cable Commission for years and reported the news on the local cable television station.  She was a member of the local Music Mothers and the Mothers Club.
Marian was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church for 70 years. She was the facilitator for church bingo for numerous years and made sure people had fun while the organization followed state policies.
Taking her flair for entertaining a different direction, she founded the Sisters of St. Mary’s performing group, who sang, danced, and joked their way into many people’s hearts around southern Wisconsin for 12 years. She was a member of various choirs at St. Mary’s, and in her eighties, she sang in five sacred and secular choirs simultaneously, including the Madison College Show Choir and the Bel Canto Choir.
Importantly, Marian co-founded Marshall Community Theatre in the early 1980s and brought decades of theater performances to the village. She served as president, treasurer, and board member. She performed in several shows; her favorite role as actress was the haunting Fruma Sarah in Fiddler on the Roof. To those who knew Marian’s lifelong penchant for murder mysteries, the role was a perfect fit.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents, husband Fred Gmeinder, and siblings Elmer Weisensel, Edna Flannery, Gladys Winkelman, Audrey Powers, Leon Weisensel, Myron Weisensel, George Weisensel, and Vernon Weisensel.
She is survived by her children Marilyn (Grant) Majerus, Steven (Patty) Gmeinder, Annette (Barry) Witkowski, Nancy (Tim) Gmeinder Schroedl, Linda Barrett, and Julie (Jon) Holubowicz; sister Rita Richolson; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by special sisters-in-law Billie Weisensel and Irene Weisensel, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Marian will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at 1:00PM with Fr. Jorge Miramontes presiding. Visitation will take place at church from 11:00AM until the time of service. She will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery following the service.
The family wishes to thank Caring Made Easy and Agrace Hospice for their gentle care.

Virginia L. Lacey-Wolkenheim - February 05, 1951 - March 14, 2022

Departed: 03/14/2022 (Watertown)
Obituary Preview: On March 14, 2022 Virginia (Ginny) Lacey-Wolkenheim went home to be with the Lord in Heaven. She was born on February 5th, 1951 in Montreal, Quebec Canada to Maybelle and Roy Lacey. Later that year the trio moved to the USA and settled in Jefferson County, Wisconsin by the Ladish Malting facility, where Roy was employed for many years.  Ginny made many wonderful lifelong friendships, and enjoyed sending hand-written letters to all with cuts from the daily papers or other treasures.  Her monthly lunch group (Sandy, Lois, Hanna and Vicky) gathered for years, sharing the news of life and laughing and crying together.
Nature was always a part of her life.  The Great Lakes (especially the north tip of the “UP”) was a vacation spot from childhood on.  She shared the natural joys of that place with all, and knew where the best smooth stones were to be found!  If not in Copper country, she loved shelling for seashells before dawn on Sanibel Island as life allowed.  The spoils of those trips are best seen in her home and gardens, where she found peace and comfort maintaining both with Frank and sharing with her loved family and friends.
Music gave her joy and comfort all her days.  Playing clarinet in 7th grade at Jefferson schools brought her a lifelong friend in Sandy, and piano graced her with another in her beloved friend Sue.  She always had music playing at home (classical, jazz & hymns) and enjoyed attending piano concerts hosted by the Milwaukee Symphony.  Always encouraging music in others, her son Andy took to piano and trombone and Frank developed a strong interest in guitar.  Both played to her enjoyment at recitals and in worship to the Lord, for which she was very proud.  Later in life, she needed a new musical challenge to keep up with Frank’s guitar skills and took lessons on the accordion, a very interesting and happy instrument.
Ginny is survived by her husband Frank of 21 years; son Andrew (Kimberly) Grinwald, stepchildren Jesse Wolkenheim and Kylie Seivert; brother Erik (Debbie) Lacey; grandmother to Tahlia, Bryce, Evelina and Bronson; aunt to Scott (Bunny) Lacey and Laura (Nick) Lintner; great aunt to Harvey, Winston and Zelda. She is also survived by many wonderful Canadian cousins.
Special thanks to The ProHealth Cancer Center, Hospice Chaplin Michelle, Hospice Nurse Tammy, Hospice Music Therapist Lindsey and the caring Staff at Angels Grace.
A private Celebration of Life will be planned to coordinate with the “trumpets of spring”.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to inform friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a permanent record of a person's life and legacy.

Who typically writes an obituary?

Obituaries are often written by family members or close friends of the deceased, although funeral homes or online obituary platforms may also assist with writing and publishing them.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary, but it's generally recommended to keep it concise and focused on the most important information. Aim for around 150-200 words.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

Sometimes families or friends may want to republish an obituary on anniversaries or special occasions. Check with the original publication to see if this is possible and what their policies are regarding republication.

Are online obituaries permanent records?
