Carmela Di Mino - May 20, 1927 - April 05, 2024

Departed: 04/05/2024 (Brooklyn)
Obituary Preview: Carmela "Millie" Di Mino Obituary
Carmela “Millie” Di Mino, 96, of Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2024. Born May 20, 1927, to Antonio and Antonia Scimecca in Little Italy in New York City.
It was there on Elizabeth St. that Carmela’s lifelong love for great Italian food and music began. Carmela grew up an only child, losing her father at an early age. After WWII she married her childhood sweetheart Vincent at St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral followed by a “Football Style Wedding” celebration. Together with her husband she poured her heart and soul into building a big family of her own, filling the home with food and love. She became a monumental source of unending love and support for not only her late husband, but also for her cherished children, whom she raised in Rockaway Beach, NY. She instilled a joy for life, fierce courage, and a dedication to family in them and her grandchildren.
When she wasn’t preparing chicken soup, meatballs and frittatas for her family, she prepared food for faculty and staff at work often getting scolded by her supervisor for giving them huge portions of food and treating them like her own family. She worked at IS 53 in Queens & PS 231 in Brooklyn and was a member of New York City's Public Employee Union DC37 for over 20 years.
Her uncanny wit, signature sayings (Millie-isms), warm smile, astounding strength, style & pizazz made her one of a kind. She never missed a beat. She lit the way. She made it all the way. And, yes, she did it her way.
She now joins her beloved husband Vincent and son Joseph in eternal rest.
She is survived by her three daughters: Annette Levy, husband George, Diane Leonard, husband Jimmy, Marie Smith, husband Doug, and daughter-in-law Susan Di Mino. She is beloved by her 8 grandchildren: Daniel, wife Jessica; Chase, Andrew and Austin, fiancé Olivia; Carolyn, husband Matt; Jillian, fiancé Adam and Emily and James; as well as great-grandchildren Bella, Danny, Ryan, and another on the way.
