Departed: 04/04/2022 (UNIVERSITY PLACE)
Obituary Preview: Adam Morris Sutner, 61, died of a heart attack on April 4 at the Crystal Mountain ski area in Washington, where he was vice president of business development, skier services and sales and marketing.
He was born on Oct. 5, 1960 in Brooklyn, N.Y. His late parents, Charlotte and Robert F. Sutner, took him shortly after his birth to Mexico City, where the family was living at the time before moving to Vancouver, Montreal and then New Jersey.
Adam lived and worked overseas in the advertising and tech business in Amsterdam, Brussels, London, Paris, Tokyo and Melbourne. He also lived and worked in advertising and the ski industry in New York City, Chicago, Denver, Minneapolis, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and in Vail, Colo., Jackson Hole, Wyo., and Greenwater, Wash.
He lived the life he wanted to live.
He was widely known for working hard and being a leader in the ski industry profession he loved, often starting work before dawn.
Adam loved French Martinis, fast cars and motorcycles, high-speed skiing, music, reading literature and non-fiction, wok cooking, James Bond and art heist caper movies and smoking his beloved cigarillos. He was an ardent fan of international soccer and rugby.
He liked to pick up and drop off at the airport the steady stream of visitors who he accommodated, with utmost hospitality, at his various well-appointed homes. He collected watches, fine art and mid-century modern furniture and accessories.
He was a witty storyteller, entertaining family and friends with tales of his lifelong travels and adventures. He had an acerbic sense of humor and keen intellect.
Adam traveled regularly for work to Mexico in recent decades. He spoke Spanish and admired and collected Mexican art.
After a few decades in advertising in the U.S., Europe, Asia and Australia, he switched careers and moved into the outdoor sports world as a top marketing executive at Minnesota-based Polaris Industries, a snowmobile and ATV manufacturer.
Adam quickly became expert in marketing outdoor sports. After four years at Polaris, he went to work at Vail Mountain in Colorado as sales and marketing director of the iconic resort.
At Vail, he brought big-name pop bands to various winter outdoor venues in and around historic Vail Village, something he was proud of and he loved producing live music.
After nearly four years at the resort, Adam opened his own marketing strategy consultancy and spent a year marketing the town of Vail and Snowshoe Mountain ski resort in West Virginia, among other clients.
In 2013 he became chief marketing officer at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Wyoming. He helped transform the famous ski mountain and backcountry adventure sports mecca into a prestigious international destination with innovative marketing strategies including alliances with other elite ski areas.
At Jackson Hole he founded the annual Rendezvous Spring Festival, bringing top-flight music acts to the town square in Jackson that attracted thousands of revelers.
He moved to Washington in 2019 to work at Crystal Mountain. At Crystal, the largest ski area in the state and owned by Colorado-based Alterra Mountain Co., he had recently received a promotion in which he assumed responsibility for sales and marketing in addition to his business development duties.
At Crystal, Adam worked closely with the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, planning and administering with Louie Ungaro, a Muckleshoot tribal council member and chairman of the Tribal School Commission, an educational program for Muckleshoot students from fifth grade to high school.
Adam taught regular classes about marketing to Muckleshoot students and established a dedicated yurt at the base of the ski area that serves as the tribe’s schoolhouse and campus at the mountain, which is located on the flanks of Mount Rainier and is part of the Muckleshoots’ usual and accustomed hunting and fishing territory.
He also was a key architect of and instrumental in administering Crystal’s nationally recognized and successful bus transportation program designed to reduce traffic and congestion to counteract the negative environmental effects of automobiles in the region.
Even as a top executive, Adam regularly loaded Crystal’s buses in a public parking lot in Enumclaw, the nearest big town, in the Seattle suburbs, and pitched in directing traffic and shoveling snow in Crystal’s busy parking lots.
Adam was a stellar youth and college athlete. He was starting goaltender for Division 1 and Ivy League NCAA soccer teams at University of Connecticut and Columbia University, from which he graduated with a degree in art history.
He was an avid and fearless skier, and owned a condo in Chamonix, France for many years.
He was a devoted uncle and kept in close contact and visited regularly over the years with his surviving siblings -- Arianne Sutner of Portland, Ore., Joshua Sutner of Vail, Colo., and Shaun Sutner of Worcester, Mass. -- and their families.
He also leaves his beloved niece, Josie John of Norman, Okla.; and beloved nephews Samuel Sutner of Jersey City, N.J.; and Bix and Errol Brotherton of Portland, Ore.
We who loved him will miss him like mad.
The family asks those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to the Feed Seven Generations tribal food sovereignty nonprofit organization for an education scholarship fund in Adam’s name. Feed Seven Generations, P.O. Box 1165, Enumclaw, WA 98022

Donna Lorraine Tveit - July 26, 1951 - February 11, 2022

Departed: 02/11/2022 (UNIVERSITY PLACE)
Obituary Preview: A beautifully loving Wife, Sister, Mother, and Grandmother; Donna Lorraine Tveit passed away on Friday, February 11th 2022, after gifting those she knew with 70 wonderful years of life. Donna was a woman possessed of a singular passion for providing and caring for others, as was in evidence when she passed peacefully in the home she made, filled with the people she loved.
Donna was born on July 26th, 1951 in Tacoma, Washington to her parents Carl and Lorraine Heenan. In 1977 Donna was working as the produce manager of the local Lucky Store when she met her future husband Mark Tveit, who was recently returned from his Military service. What began as a professional association quickly turned into a burgeoning romance, thanks in large part to Mark’s persistence. Just two years later Mark and Donna would marry, on July 28, 1979.
It could never be said that Donna did not live life the way she wanted. If you were to ask the countless friends and family known to Donna to recount stories from her life, you would undoubtedly hear anecdotes concerning the “Legendary” parties Donna and Mark were known for. Donna was the consummate hostess, and the love for life that she possessed was infectious to those around her.  People were inexorably drawn to wherever Mark and Donna were, and to anyone that you ask, they would claim that Donna was a lodestone for love, life and fun.
On March 25th, 1987 Mark and Donna’s love was made physically manifest when Donna gave birth to her beautiful daughter and best friend Allison. Over the years Donna and Allison became an inseparable duo, as Donna poured every ounce of will into instilling her daughter with all of the invaluable qualities that were intrinsic to her personality. It is without question that Donna’s greatest calling was to be a wonderfully loving and caring mother.
Donna’s greatest pride and joy was her proclivity for gardening. It is no surprise that a woman that was so full of love and compassion had the ability to make any plant grow (except for weeds, which she eliminated with ruthless efficiency).  In her free time Donna could typically be found in her yard, plying her flower beds and plants with love and attention. It could certainly be said that the beauty and detail found in the things that she cultivated were simply a reflection of Donna’s remarkable personality.
Donna is preceded in death by her mother Lorraine, her father Carl, her brother Carl Jr and brother-in-law, Rick.
Donna is survived by her husband Mark, daughter Allison (Kyle), granddaughter Olivia, sister Sharon, brother John (Sara), many nieces and nephews, as well as all of those people that she showed such selfless devotion. Donna was caring to a fault; always placing the needs of others before her own. To attempt to define the limits of how much she will be missed would be an exercise in futility.

Douglas J Patur - December 14, 1942 - January 10, 2022

Departed: 01/10/2022 (UNIVERSITY PLACE)
Obituary Preview: Douglas J. Patur passed away suddenly and peacefully at the age of 79 on January 10, 2022. Uncle Doug was born December 14, 1942 in Bremerton, Washington to John Patur and Helena Nowicki. He had one brother, Ralph Patur. Doug is survived by his niece Roberta Greenway (David), nephew Jeffrey Patur and Sister-in-law Helen Patur.
His mother relocated her two boys to Chicago after Doug's father passed away suddenly and Doug became a special needs child shortly after due to spinal meningitis. Doug's disability had many blessings. Doug did not worry, live in fear or experience emotional suffering or regret. He loved every day of his life, God, his family, his community and was always grateful for the many people that loved him and showed him kindness.
During Doug's younger years he loved to listen to the Cubs play baseball, riding his bike, helping with family chores, and Sunday dinner after church. While in Chicago Doug worked at the US Post Office for a short period of time. In his late 30s he relocated to Iron River, Michigan and then again relocated to Issaquah, Washington which became his favorite town. Doug had an extraordinary ability to memorize dates and particularly people's birthdays, bus and Amtrak schedules or any other date that was important to him. When it came to people's birthdays and anniversaries he not only knew the date, but he could tell you what day of the week the date was and well into the future. Doug made friends everywhere he went including developing close relationships with the mayors of Issaquah who invited him into their offices and regularly sent him holiday cards most importantly, birthday cards with personal messages. Doug loved going to his church, Our Savior Lutheran Church and the Senior Center (both in Issaquah). Doug was also a big fan of the Seattle Mariners and Seahawks and looked forward to watching virtually all their games on TV. Some of his personal favorites were Ken Griffey with the Mariners and Russell Wilson with the Seahawks. He'd always wear his team t-shirt when he watched the game and he had a Seahawks jacket that a friend from his church had given to him. He loved that jacket!
We will all miss Uncle Doug very much, but we believe without a doubt that Doug was welcomed by Jesus with open arms and that he is probably at the head of the line to be a greeter in heaven for just a little while.
His family would like to thank the staff at Providence Marianwood, the staff at DSHS At Works Program, Josephine, Mike and Deb and a very special thank you to Doug's dear friends and support family Duane and Jan Kolberg and Doug and Diane Tanner both of Issaquah.
In honor of Doug's memory and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Issaquah Senior Center or Our Savior Lutheran Church of Issaquah.

George A. Smith - June 13, 1947 - December 25, 2021

Departed: 12/25/2021 (UNIVERSITY PLACE)
Obituary Preview: GEORGE A. SMITH Sunrise - June 13, 1947 – Sunset - December 25, 2021 “Son, Brother, Father & Friend”
We salute you man of God. We rejoice at your promotion to our King and celebrate your impact as it lives on in us. Thank you for being who you were created to be. We thank God for giving us so much time with you and count it an honor to have served with you on this side. Heaven has gained a great man.
We love you. “For I am now ready to be offered and the time of departure is at hand.  I have fought a good fight.  I have finished my course.  I have kept the faith.  II Timothy 3:5-7
Mr. George A. Smith Jr. was born on June 13, 1947.  He was a proud native of the Motor City, otherwise known as “the mean streets” of Detroit, Michigan, as he would say.  He was born to Mr. & Mrs. George Smith.  Preceding him in death is his father, George Smith, Sr., his mother, Trudie Smith, his sister Patsy Smith, and his beloved son Gabriel Smith.
As a young man, George enlisted into the U.S. Airforce serving his Country for a short time while stationed in Panama City, Florida.  This was just the beginning for George, who continued to live a life dedicated to service to others, and a life dedicated to God.  In 1982, George became a member at Rainer Temple Church, in Seattle, Washington, where he and his wife Robin met.  Their love story developed and for 37 years George was a devoted husband and friend, married to his lovely wife as they served the Lord together.  George was also an amazing provider and father, often putting his needs on hold to make sure his kids and family were well taken care of.
George was the friendliest man you could ever meet. He never knew a stranger. He took pride in helping others. Someone could easily be drawn in, through his deep boisterous laugh, genuine smile, encouraging words.  He genuinely showed concern for their life. His zeal for the Lord and life was infectious; He was constantly looking around the room of any restaurant, grocery store, or other public place he visited for that one person that needed a smile or a friendly look.  He was never shy about making sure you were confident about where you would spend eternity.  He had a boldness that is rarely seen today.  George was truly a soul winner for Christ at heart.
George was an integral part of his Church body.  In 1989 he joined Tabernacle of Praise Church, where for over 30 years he continued his dedication to serving others and inspiring those around him.  He initially served as gatekeeper and eventually was installed to the position of Deacon.  There are many memories of George amongst his church home.  For example, there were many times he took over worship from the pews and it was not unusual for him to stop members in their tracks, whether they were ready or not, to give them a word of scripture.  During men’s retreats he was always one of the first men awake sitting by the fireplace with his bible and in prayer. He was faithful and genuinely shared his faith and love to brothers. He was full of wisdom and principle but humble enough to receive a word from anyone. He was also very teachable and brought strength to others with his encouragement.  He shared many nuggets of wisdom during times of fellowship. His words, presence and contribution to the brothers mean so much more now and will be cherished even more.  For all of us who knew him and his love for the Lord, know that he has taken over the worship in heaven too.  Few words can really describe how valuable and dependable he was to his brothers in Christ.
As a Boeing employee, George worked hard, and spent 30 dedicated years as a machine-parts storekeeper for the organization.
After retiring from Boeing, God led George, in 2018 to volunteer with New Day Ministry.  As usual, George was a big blessing!  George was a man of faith, a man of prayer who loved God with everything within him.  He loved the word of God and the work of the Lord.  George would always say “I just want to help in any way that I can”, and he did just that.  He would come early so the team could have a time of prayer for the needs of New Day, for the clients (which were homeless), for the volunteers and for those who supported New Day.
George was also a leading fundraiser for New Day.  He would go to various Port Orchard stores talking about the mission, opening up hearts and easily bringing in $600 to $700 dollars each weekend in addition to some of his own funds, to bless New Day.  He made it his business to get to know everyone personally and remember their names.  He made everyone feel so welcome and loved when they came into the building, and he’d see them on the street.  Whenever George was not able to come to volunteer, he’d always call and say, “tell my people I love them.”  George was dedicated to God and to God’s people.
Amongst other volunteer community service, George also served with Youth for Christ Bremerton, visiting juveniles in Detention Centers for 20 years or more.  When not doing ministry work, fishing was one of his favorite past times as well as enjoying meals at new restaurants, barbequing, having cook-offs, and traveling with his wife and children.
Brother George is simply irreplaceable.  He will be greatly missed.  We will miss his strength, faithfulness, fellowship, laughter and love. You just had to know him to understand how true that is. He was a pillar and the epitome of enduring to the end. Everyone who had the opportunity to know George loved him.
George A. Smith leaves behind his lovely wife Robin Smith, three sons: George Darrell Smith, Christian Smith, and Timothy Smith; five brothers: Gerald, Billy, Thomas, Robert, Ralph.  Sister, Darlene. Five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, twenty-two nephews and nieces, eight-teen grand nephews and nieces, four great grandnephews and a host of cousins and friends.
The number of memories and fond words about him are numerous and he will truly be missed, but never forgotten. Acknowledgements Special Thanks to Wendy and Christopher Vermalen and Dave and Liz Ranquist for their endearing love and support!
We thank everyone for your expressions of love, phone calls, flowers, and cards. Most importantly, thank you for your prayers during this time.  The kindness that you have shown to our family will never be forgotten. To Apostle Kendrick and the Tabernacle of Praise family, many thanks to you for everything that you have done.  Thank you for your love, prayers and support!
