Raymond P. Casatelli - May 14, 1923 - December 15, 2023

Departed: 12/15/2023 (Utica)
Obituary Preview: Raymond P. Casatelli, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 15, 2023, at 100 years of age.
He was born on May 14, 1923,in Utica, New York, son of the late Assunta and Raffale Casatelli. Throughout his life, he maintained a close relationship with God and his faith.  He experienced several brushes with death, including serving three years in the European Theater in Germany through WWII and a near fatal car crash years after.  Raymond maintained that it was his faith and prayers, and perhaps a little luck from his patron Saint Anthony, that got him through the toughest times, and also brought him and his wife together after the war.  Jenny and Ray had lost touch through the war, but Ray happened upon Jenny waiting for the bus on Genesee Street one fateful night after he had returned, and the rest would be history.  On June 25, 1947, he married the love of his life, Jenny Anelli, and they would enjoy a marriage of 74 years thereafter.  In their day, Ray and Jenny could often be found dancing the tango, waltz, or jitterbug at their favorite haunts, including Trinkaus Manor and Post 229.  His love of music carried throughout his life and he enjoyed listening to live music at concerts in the park and playing popular tunes on his keyboard.  Ray loved taking long walks and visiting with neighbors along the way.
Ray was a truly devoted husband, loving father, brother, uncle, and popular personality around Utica throughout his life.  Up until the end, he would make friends wherever he was.  His sweet and magnetic nature made him a staple at The Grand in Utica, where he spent his last years.  He was a wonderful friend to many of the parishioners of St. Anthony of Padua, as well as those he became associated with while in the fur business with his uncle, Thomas Danella, a prominent furrier in his time.  After many years in the fur business, Ray moved on to work in the Men’s Suits & Coats Department of the Boston Store, then concluded his working career at Anderson Little.  He also volunteered for many years at St. Luke’s Hospital with his wife, in retirement.
Throughout retirement, he enjoyed winters in Florida with Jenny and her brother, Lou Anelli, and his family.  While in Florida, he enjoyed creating memories sailing on the Indian River.  He also traveled overseas to Italy and the Bahamas, and to Canada, Texas, and Maine.
Ray will be remembered and missed for his friendly, loving, and loyal character.  He leaves behind a void for his family and friends that can only be filled with the comfort of knowing that he is now resting in peace, reunited with his love, Jenny.
Surviving Ray is his daughter Susan Warwick and son in law Robert Warwick, of Whitesboro, his sons Raymond L. Casatelli, of New Hartford, and Gary Casatelli, of San Antonio, Texas.  Also, his six beloved grandchildren, Nicole Kamesaki and husband Lyle Kamesaki, Kimberly Warwick and husband Patrick Sullivan, Ryan Casatelli and wife Elizabeth Casatelli, Daniel Casatelli, Gary Casatelli, Nicholas Casatelli and wife Cassie Casatelli and five beloved great-grandchildren, Emi and Nina Kamesaki, Elora Sullivan, and Maizie and MacKenzie Casatelli as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sisters Louise Centolella and Genevieve Tomaino.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 12:00 noon in St. Anthony/St. Agnes Church, Utica. The family will greet visitors at the conclusion of mass in church.

Frank "Big Cheech" Faccioli - July 06, 1940 - November 01, 2023

Departed: 11/01/2023 (Utica)
Obituary Preview: Mr. Frank “Big Cheech” Faccioli, age 83, of Utica and Fort Myers, FL, passed away peacefully in the company of his loving family on Wednesday November 1, 2023, after a short illness.
Frank was born in Utica, New York on July 6, 1940, to Anthony and Rose (Giglio) Faccioli and attended Thomas R. Proctor High School. On October 28, 1960, he married Jo Marie Giordano, and from 63 years of marriage came the blessing of four children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Frank was a loving family man and friend, and his faith was deeply important to him. Whether it was sharing a meal and fine wine with family or friends, throwing playful birthday parties, or performing magic tricks and dressing as Santa for his grandchildren, Frank made sure to put a smile on the face of anyone who was lucky enough to spend time with him. Nothing made him happier than to get a laugh out of someone. An avid fisherman, he traveled across the world, including to Aruba, Bermuda, and the Arctic Circle. No place was more special to him than the St. Lawrence River, where he took yearly trips and was an accomplished muskie fisherman, earning a place in the Muskie Hall of Fame in Clayton, New York. Frank was a passionate connoisseur of food and wine, and had two life-changing trips to Italy, the land of his ancestors. The first to participate in the Papal Jubilee of 1975, and the second in celebration of his 50th wedding anniversary, where he and his wife were able to reconnect with family. Later in his life, he began spending the winters in Fort Myers, Florida. Frank enjoyed the camaraderie of so many friends, far too many to list, and his family would like to acknowledge the joy and laughter that they added. Many he knew his entire life in the Utica area, and many more he met over the 22 cherished winters in Florida. Each helped make his retirement special.
Frank is survived by his loving wife Jo Marie (Giordano) Faccioli, his children Tina and husband Don Ambrose, Anthony “Fuji” and wife Andrea Faccioli, Frank “Cheech” Jr. and wife Kathy Faccioli, and daughter Dina Ventura. His memory will live on in the hearts of his beloved grandchildren - Anthony Faccioli, Francesco and wife Amanda Faccioli, Ariana Ambrose, Giavanna Faccioli, Stephen Ventura, and Santino Faccioli, as well as his two great-grandchildren, Lila and Francesco Faccioli. He is also survived by Sal and Kathy Longo and family, with whom his special relationship grew as close as his own children. He had many special friendships, including his best friends Louis and Sunny Gifune and Joe and Candace Gazzal. Frank was predeceased by his parents, his in-laws Joseph and Mary Giordano, his brother-in-law John, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends whom he loved deeply, and with whom he loved to share a bottle of wine.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Frank’s Funeral Service and Celebration of Life at Mary, Mother of Our Savior Church, (Our Lady of Lourdes Campus) 2222 Genesee St, Utica at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 9, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Who typically writes an obituary?

The task of writing an obituary usually falls on the family members or close friends of the deceased. In some cases, a funeral home or mortuary may assist with writing the obituary or provide a template to help guide the process.

What information should be included in an obituary?

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?
