Robert Frank Laytos - September 16, 1930 - March 10, 2022

Departed: 03/10/2022 (Scranton)
Obituary Preview: Robert Frank Laytos, 91, of Scranton, died Thursday morning at Allied Services Skilled Nursing Center.  He is survived by his wife, the former, Theresa Giannetti.  The couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary, September 8th.
Born in Scranton on September 16th, 1930, son of the late Alexander J. and Victoria Sewatsky Laytos, he was a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish in Scranton.  Prior to retirement, Robert worked for The Trane Co. for over 30 years. Robert had a lifetime of experiences to share. He was a natural story-teller whose tales were always vivid, but never too tall. His life, much like his storytelling, was built upon a foundation of integrity and honesty.
He recently celebrated his 70th wedding anniversary with his beloved wife, Theresa. Their fairytale-like love began with a birthday kiss Theresa shared with Robert in 1948. He wanted her kisses for the rest of his life, and his wish came true.
Robert found joy in the simple pleasures. He was an avid fisherman, a skilled hunter, and loved a bologna sandwich with a glass of orange soda. If he wasn't at his workbench cutting intricate wooden patterns on his scroll saw to make his grandchildren personalized jewelry boxes, he could be found in the next room working on jigsaw puzzles, solving sudokus, or rooting for his favorite sports teams. He loved with his whole heart. He was careful in the truest sense of the word. He had a warm, comforting presence that will be missed by all who knew him.
Also surviving are daughters Michelle Stemrich and husband Robert, Factoryville, Sandra Chesek and husband, Gary, Scranton; a sister, Lois Rothka and husband, Joseph, Clarks Summit; grandchildren, Timothy Stemrich and wife, Chelsey, Dalton, Shawna Kopa and husband, Michael, Blakely, Liane Kittrell and husband, Clinton, Columbia, MD, Eric Chesek, Hicksville, NY, Theresa Chesek, Scranton and Kristen Chesek, Scranton; great-grandchildren Aidan, Kinsley, Kennedy, Owyn, Adrienne, and Devyn, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Robert was preceded in death by an infant son, John; an infant sister, Jeanette; and a brother, Richard Laytos.
The family would like to thank Allied Services Skilled Nursing staff for the care and compassion they showed towards Robert during his stay with them.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in Mary, Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 316 William Street in Scranton.  Interment to follow in Cathedral Cemetery.

Gary G. Bolus - December 06, 1957 - February 23, 2022

Departed: 02/23/2022 (Scranton)
Obituary Preview: Gary Bolus was the best of us. He died Wednesday.
A lifelong West Scranton resident, Gary, 64, sometimes known as “Jiggsy,” swam three days a week at the YMCA in Dunmore, rode his bike in the summer, and, after retiring from Sanofi Pasteur, walked McDade Park in the mornings. A Mansfield University graduate and science aficionado, Gary mowed his lawn in perfect lines, wearing his uniform: jean shorts, a white T-shirt and high-top white Converse. The son of the late George and Catherine Bolus, he spent every moment he could with his grandchildren, Will and Abby. He loved those kids and his girls, the loves of his life, wife, Jeannie, and daughters, Shannon and Kathleen. He was an outstanding husband who wooed Jeannie by mopping her feet instead of the floor while working a stint as a janitor at the facility where she was a nurse. He and Jeannie were truly partners. Together, they loved the Beatles and taking care of their family.
Grandpa, as he liked to be known the best, worked hard and was always there to fix something, give someone a ride and lend a hand. He was there when you needed him, especially to make some sort of pumpkin creation with his grandson and give his granddaughter a push on the swing long after she needed one. He taught Will and Abby to swim and ride their bikes and was an ever present fan in the stands at their swim meets and games, just like he was for Shannon and Kathleen.
We’ll miss him looking up at the stars through his telescope, cursing at the TV, tinkering in his garage and offering advice that usually included a story from growing up alongside his seven brothers and sisters, Valerie, Arlene, Michael, Tommy, the late Jackie, Lisa and Andrea in their big Lebanese family. He was a loving uncle and always looked out for his nieces and nephews, again always helping out where he could. He was often found hanging out with his lifelong friends.
Gary dedicated his life to his family. He was our caretaker and we’re better because of it. He loved us so much and we never doubted it.
The viewing will be Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Savino Traditional Funerals and Cremation Care, 157 S. Main Ave., Scranton. A blessing service will begin at 6.
In Gary’s memory, go for a drive, hang out with family (but make sure to disappear briefly) and maybe fix something.

Obituary Preview: Shirley Rose Pelosi, 90, of Scranton, passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and best friend of over 41 years, Attilio, who passed away in 1995.
Born on March 19, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Ann (Rackowicz)Mc Donald.  She was a modern woman before it was popular, as aside from all her housewife duties and raising three children, she was employed by various manufacturing companies and assisted her husband in the family restaurant business.

However, there was nothing Shirley enjoyed more than spending time with her family.  It was a standard joke that if you asked her to go out for the day, she would be waiting on the sidewalk before you even pulled up to her house.  She loved to travel to both Penn State and Syracuse Universities where she would visit her cherished granddaughter.  She was a devoted mother and grandmother.
Shirley is survived by three daughters, Lidia Yedinak and companion Richard, with whom she resided; Ann Warpus and husband Michael, who Shirley considered the son she never had, Clarks Summit; and Donna Ocwieja and husband John, Clarks Summit; her only grandchild, Attorney Alyssa Warpus and Justin, Archbald; her sister Dorothy Valvano, Throop; and several nieces and nephews.
