Kamla Kumar - July 10, 1930 - March 21, 2024

Departed: 03/21/2024 (Phoenix)
Obituary Preview: Dr. Kamla Kumar July 10, 1930 – March 21, 2024
Kamla Kumar, 93, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Scottsdale, Arizona on March 21, 2024. Kamla is survived by her sons Rasha and Aseem, and many beloved nieces and nephews throughout the world. She is predeceased by her husband, Dr. Darshan Kumar, and all her siblings.
Kamla, who was nicknamed "Sammi" by her family, was born to parents Balkishan Dass and Laxmi Garg of Dariba Kalan on July 10, 1930, in New Delhi, India. She was the second youngest in a family of nine children. Sammi was intelligent and driven, and forged her own path in life. She pursued her medical degree at the prestigious Lady Hardinge Medical College, graduating in 1953. While studying medicine, she met her true love, Sukh Darshan Kumar, and they were married on May 7, 1957.
The next few years saw them pursuing their medical careers together. From 1957 to 1959 they resided in Brighton, England, were Kamla specialized in pediatrics (MRCP). There, they had their first son, Rasha. They moved back to India for a short time, where they welcomed their second son, Aseem, before relocating to Kaduna, Nigeria (1963-1964).
Seeking opportunity abroad, they found positions in Ottawa, Canada and moved across the ocean in June, 1964. They eventually settled in 1966 in Regina, Canada, both opening medical practices (and even in the same building!). Kamla had a successful practice for many years, specializing in both Pediatrics and Allergy. Many wonderful friendships were made over the years. However, tragedy struck in 1980, with Darshan passing away from cancer, a terrible loss for the family.
Kamla bravely started the next chapter of her life in unfamiliar (but warmer) surroundings, moving to Arizona in August, 1985. Of course, she required her two sons to also relocate there, which they did. She practiced Pediatrics in the valley over the next 14 years, retiring in January, 1998. Kamla was passionate about investing, spending many hours researching, and buying and selling securities. She also loved gardening and cooking, especially (spicey and delicious) Indian dishes. She traveled extensively, returning to India many times to be reunited with loved ones, as well as to Canada, Europe, Africa, Central America, and throughout the United States.

She had a long and fulfilling career as a nurse in Cardiac Care, NICU, as a School Nurse and Hospice care nurse. Kate finished her career with 20 years as nurse case manager with Hospice of the Valley. While her career fulfilled her natural tendency for serving others, she also raised her son Joe and later became a grandmother to Tim.
Kate had friends from all of her avenues of life and was most fond of her life long friendships with her Xavier classmates, and her nursing colleagues. She sang in the choir at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church and was an active parishioner and gave back to her community. Many will remember her for her laugh, the stories she shared and care she provided. Her family thanks the nurses and Hospice of The Valley team who cared for her in her final days.

Jennifer Lynn Marlowe - August 16, 1970 - January 17, 2024

Departed: 01/17/2024 (Phoenix)
Obituary Preview: Jennifer Lynn Marlowe was born on august 16,1970 in Fresno California and later moved to Phoenix AZ.
It is with profound grief and sadness, we announce that Jen passed away at Banner University Hospital on January 17, 2024 at 1:59 am. due to Pneumonia, Cardiogenic shock and a weakened disposition from Kidney failure and bouts of Chemotherapy and radiation over the past three years had weakened her immune systems. She was in remission from the Cancer she had but the added shock was too great for her body and she expired.
Jen possessed peace, bravery, authenticity, compassion, patience , a strong work ethic, and above all, joy, which was unfazed by her previous cancer diagnosis and the onslaught of complications that followed. She taught me to love desperately, unconditionally, intimately and to savor every moment. She was uniquely contented by the happenstance and delighted in collecting and restoring relics of bygone eras. Those who knew and loved her were equally thrilled just to be by her side on her adventures. She was an artistic soul and would create something inspired out of nothing. She found euphoria in Bashas cream filled doughnuts, painting, drawing, crafting flowers and trinkets out of shells and sea glass, and a warm chocolate chip cookie at sunset on the beach with her husband after a long day of snorkeling and hunting for shark teeth on our annual trips to Florida.
She loved Rammstein and Swedish House Mafia," don't worry child", the perfect cup of coffee, bacon, Kerry Gold butter, all things retro, antique clocks, vintage sparkly purses, remnants of classic films, and especially the Atomic Age of Art Deco and her trusty side step Toyota pickup truck. She loved the Golden girls and every furry animal she ever met. We keep her cradled in our hearts and find some comfort in the memories and mementos she leaves behind.
Lighting the way to her place among the stars are her beloved Mother, Sharon Kay and furry friends Pumba, Moo Shu and Chum Chum who preceded her in death. She leaves behind her devoted and heartbroken husband of 15 years, Donald Ross McIntyre, her best friend and comrade, in the constant search for rusty gold and all things fabulous and shiny, Tracy Dugger. Also left behind is her Nana, whom she dearly loved, Marie Bruthaiene Keele, Grandpa, James Irvy Keele, uncles James (Jimbo) and Bruce Keele, who will forever treasure their one and only Jif. Jen also had a Nephew, Joshua Keele whom she was very proud of, and a small army of friends and associates from her long career as an Engineer at Walgreens.
Jen didn't want flowers, cards or a formal service, but wished for her ashes to be sprinkled in the ocean in front of the beach house we have been going to each year for the past 15 years, which I plan to do next year. Jen asked if you must do something in remembrance of her, to please donate to any local no-kill animal shelter. In her honor, hold your loved one's hands tightly, screw the calories and eat a cream filled doughnut, pet a fuzzy dog or cat and to be on the lookout for something old and shiny! We were blessed and very lucky to know her, to love her and to have her in our lives and will endlessly miss her for all of our days!

Obituary Preview: Leonardo Antonio Figueroa, 72 passed on November 20, 2023 in Phoenix, AZ His smile could light up a room…he was the life of the party. He made me feel like I could do anything. I remember him catching me when I fell off my bike as a child…he helped my brother and I buy our homes…he never met a stranger and I got my LOVE of water from him. He never stopped calling me to check in most of the time. He was a wanderer…an adventurer…a free spirit who loved exploring…he was a collector of memories, not things. He loved talking to people and most of all he loved the memories he had from his homeland, the Dominican Republic. His eyes would light up and his heart would burst with pride when he spoke of it. He loved his family something fierce…and only ever wanted to make his father proud of him. In the end…he was sweet…and gentle, a lover of Christ…and he was very forgiving. He loved to sing and dance…he was a big part of my dancing as well. I loved him my whole life. I was so blessed to spend his last few days on this planet holding his hand, reminiscing and loving him. He felt it and went very peacefully…with family by his side. He made me strong and unapologetic…I will forever be grateful for the strength he gave my siblings and I…and he is solely responsible for my addiction to sunflower seeds and the ocean. I love you, Dad. May God guide you on your next journey. Peace be with you!
