Vincent Fernelius was born September 1933 in Uintah, Utah. He passed away peacefully on March 27, 2022.  He is survived by his wife, Lou Ann Fernelius of Union City, CA as well as one Son (Vincent Jr.) and one daughter (Suzette and husband Keith Swanson) both of Fremont, and son-in-law John Aufdermauer of Castro Valley, CA. One daughter (Jewell Aufdermauer) preceded him in death.  Vince leaves behind 5 grandchildren (Monika, Brandon, and Amanda Aufdermauer, Michelle Fernelius, and Katie Swanson) and 2 great-grandchildren (Charlotte and Benjamin).
Vince and Lou Ann met in Ogden, Utah, and were married in 1953.  He served in the Army for 2 years. They raised 3 children together and moved to California in 1970 where they settled in Union City.  He worked for Fremont Unified School District as a Special Education teacher, ROP teacher, Administrator, high school football and softball coach, and basketball referee. He retired from FUSD in 1991. Vince always loved working with his students and athletes and took great pride in seeing them succeed.
Vince and Lou Ann spent many years in retirement traveling with a variety of groups and going on several cruises.  Vince was also active in SIRS and Elks club. He also enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, and camping.  He made furniture as a hobby. He was also fond of spending time with his family.
His pleasant personality, smile, and love for life will be missed by all those who knew him.  Services are pending.

Obituary Preview: Dorothy Jean Roberts of San Jose, CA, passed away on March 12th 2022 at the age of 75.
Dorothy was born in Neelyville, MO to Lofton & Mattie Beedles on January 16th 1947. She graduated from Neelyville High School in 1964. She married Larry Roberts on June 8th 1985 in Ithaca, NY. Dorothy worked for Tandem Computers as well as Strouds Inc., and she ended her corporate career as a District Manager for all CA regions of Goodwill for 10 years, creating a position that never existed until she retired and dedicated her working hours to the church. She professed herself as a Christian in 1979 at the age of 32 under the tutelage of Superintendent James T. Roberts, pastor of Our Lord’s Temple COGIC. She and Larry moved to CA and she continued God’s work under the guidance of Superintendent Sherman Harris and 1st Lady Lily Harris of Greater Eastside COGIC. She then became an official Church Mother and from there, she began her journey in church administration and she would often say “I have been given the gift of administration, and yes that’s in the bible”. To have known Dorothy is to know love and laughter as she was a shining light and “mother” to all she met. Over the years she went by many names such as; Mother Roberts, Mo Rob, Big D, Dot, and Gma. She was also known for her witty retorts and often used a few key phrases such as; “I see said the blind man to his deaf and dumb daughter as he bumped into a stone wall” or “Goodnight, don’t let the bed bugs bite and if they do, hit them with a shoe” or “Let them eat cake” which was said often when her grandchildren would say they were hungry. Dorothy was a woman of many talents and she enjoyed bowling, writing (she wrote/published books for her great grandchildren), and singing (she made up songs for each grandchild). She was passionate about the Word of God, a dedicated prayer warrior, and diligent servant to the church. Her wisdom and love will forever be in the hearts of all those she mothered and mentored.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents Lofton & Mattie Beedles, her siblings; Irma Lee Douglas, Willie Edward Franklin, Johnny Benjamin Franklin, Ruby Lee Franklin, Rosa Mae Franklin, Mae He’Lon Duckworth (Allen Duckworth), Samuel Robert Beedles, Glory Dean Watkins (Samuel Watkins), Albert Beedles, and her daughter-in-love Jessica Beedles(Corey).
Dorothy is survived by her husband Larry Roberts, 4 children; Tamala Lambert (George), Corey Beedles (Jessica), Trishaun Roberts, and Larry Roberts II, 9 Grandchildren; Le’Shaye Jones (Lee), Charvon Beedles, Caleb Jones, Althea Jones, Alexis Beedles, Elijah Beedles, Olivia Beedles, Isaiah Beedles, and Jeremiah Jenkins, 3 Siblings; Olivia Franklin, Glory Dean Watkins, Albert Beedles and a plethora of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Oliana volunteered for Teamster’s Palo Alto and Street Teams assisting and feeding the homeless of San Mateo and Santa Clara counties.  Oliana is preceded in death by her father, Olomalu Saipaia, mother, Tulua Kirisome and the following siblings: Fialoa Saipaia, Moana Saipaia, and Ene Saipaia.  Oliana is survived by her children Patrina Saipaia Alsandor (James), Duane Saipaia (Aysha), Andre Freeman (Jennifer Knappick), Ryan Percy, Jerry Percy Jr., Damien Percy (Layla Cervantes). Oliana is also survived by her siblings Tauloa Saipaia, Mark Saipaia, John Saipaia, and Uepe Saipaia in addition to a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Obituary Preview: In the early morning of Feb 14, 2022, Lay Gar Khoo (Leia) passed away peacefully at the age of 48. Leia, a beloved wife is survived by her husband, Steve and son, Kaldrick. She also left behind her mother, Kim Teow and four older siblings, Lay Boon, Chiaw Hor, Chiaw Kiat, and Lay Bian as well as her extended family, William, Nam Giin, Josh and abundance of friends. She grew up in Muar, Johor in Malaysia and received her degree from Washington State University. She was loved by all her school and college friends and co-workers. Her love for her child has brought her together with a lot of families and the communities in South Bay Area, all of whom became her close friends. Anyone who knew Leia was touched by her kindness, caring and positive attitude. She was a huge source of encouragement to everyone around her. We take comfort in knowing that Leia is now at peace. There will be a celebration of life in her honor held at San Jose Funeral Chapel 1050 S Bascom Ave San Jose, CA 95128 from 9am to 12pm. The family respectfully request only families and friends that know Leia personally to attend the funeral service on site. This is due to safety concerns. Thank you for the understanding. There will be an online video of the service available later for families and friends that couldn't make the service. We will post it here and you can also request it directly from the family.

Obituary Preview: Irene Lopez, lovingly called Mam by her many adoring grandchildren, departed to her eternal garden in heaven on February 11, 2022. Irene was born November 23rd 1940 in La Prieta, Villa de Cos, Zacatecas, Mexico. Her girlhood mirrored the life of young Laura Ingalls in Little House on the Prairie. Then, at 23 years, she married her chosen lifelong partner, Teofilo Lopez. Life was difficult following the birth of several children, but Irene, a faithful Catholic, carried on with a strong will and undying love and devotion to her family. Life's many travels took Irene and her young family across Mexico, eventually leading to a permanent home in 1978 in San Jose, California where she eventually, with great pride, achieved US citizenship. In the next 44 years, Irene proudly witnessed the birth of 28 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren. The warm light of many new lives carrying on her bloodline gave Irene the strength to persevere through several bouts of illnesses in her golden years. God finally called Irene to join him in his kingdom of heaven, devastating the hearts of her loved ones. She is survived be her guardian son, caretaker & best friend, Sergio, her husband Teofilo, four sons, and two daughters. Irene will forever be missed, and never forgotten.

If he wasn't with family and friends, he would be out and about perfecting his craft as a carpenter, helping loved ones add to their homes with their dream kitchen or deck.  Saul never stayed in one spot, he kept busy. He balanced family, work and fun all at the same time. He stayed involved.  We will all miss him dearly, especially hearing his laughter (it was contagious). We love you Saul, always and forever. This isn't goodbye, we will be together again one day."

Obituary Preview: On January 24th, 2022 my mom Lisa Soledad Serrano Brooks had earned her wings and joined her family in heaven, she left behind her husband of 3 years and her only daughter. My mom was a loving, honest and loyal woman. She enjoyed watching her Raiders play, along with baking and trying new recipes she always put her family first before herself, she loved grooving to music and always knew how to have a good time. My mom was full of love and cherished every second, minute & hour she had with her family, making memories and sharing a few laughs. Losing my mom was the worst thing to have ever happened to me, my dad and our family. We are at a loss of words since my mom left us so suddenly. I honestly can say I don't know how I feel but I know my mom is no longer in pain and is finally reunited with her parents once again. Obituary Preview: Laurentino “Larry” C. del Carmen, 83, passed away on January 21, 2022 in San Jose, California.
Born on December 9, 1938 in Cavite City, Philippines to Florante and Amalia del Carmen and was the second eldest amongst his five siblings. In high school, he ran track and almost made it to the Olympics as part of the team Philippines.
In April 1959, Larry enlisted in the US Navy where he gained the love of travel and collected porcelain figurines from his various destinations. He was stationed in San Diego, Korea, Virginia, and numerous US Naval Aircraft Carriers such as the USS Forrester and USS Nimitz. Larry served during the Vietnam war and retired after 20 years of military service. He extremely proud of serving his country. After retirement in 1979, he joined the post office as a mail carrier and retired after 22 years. Along with being a distinguished member of the US Navy, Larry was a passionate of being a Freemason. In 1992, Larry earned the highest rank that anyone can earn at a lodge of Master Mason at Willow Glen Lodge #626 in San Jose. He rose to the 32nd degree of Scottish Rite and also served the Grand Lodge of California as an inspector.
Larry kept a very private profile but enjoyed traveling to national parks, traveling the world, fishing, trimming his perfect mustache, classical music, listening to AM radio, watching baseball, sci fi, crime drama and historic documentaries.
Aside from survived by his lovely wife of 53 years, Nelia and daughters, Laurie Gomez (Jose) and Lanel Mah (Sherman), Larry also leaves behind his four grandchildren Joseph, Samantha, Christopher, and Andrew. Along with surviving siblings Cora Maling, Florante Jr and Romero.
Celebration of life with Masonic and Catholic funeral mass will be held at International Christian Center, 3275 Williams Road, San Jose, California, on Thursday, February 10th from 12-4pm. Larry will be laid to rest the following day at a small ceremony alongside brothers in arms at California Central Coast Veteran Cemetery, located in Seaside, California.

He was the fourth child of the late Emiteria Celemin De Ocampo and Proceso Almando Sr and the brother to four siblings. “Rody” was survived by his four children Roderic, Jean, Catherine and Anna Marie, his wife Corazon, grandchildren, son-in-laws and daughter-in-law. He is greatly loved by his family, relatives and friends from all over the world.
“Papa Udok” as his grandchildren would call him was a loving and kind hearted man who cherished his family. He was always very proud of his children, especially his “favorite” Catherine. He created a special bond with his daughter Jean who took care of him for several years. He adored his grandchildren and would always check in on them to ensure they are happy and safe.
Our Dad loved to sing karaoke. His favorite song was My Way by Frank Sinatra. He was always properly dressed and with every strand of his hair in place. He loved his Lacoste polo shirts, especially the red one. He was an avid fitness enthusiast. Since we can remember, Dad would jog and exercise daily.
He was a fighter to the very end. He kept saying “I can do this. I want to exercise again”. We are blessed to have spent his last hours with him before he left us peacefully to go to heaven.
He stands in our hearts as a reminder of strength, perseverance, love and compassion. Though we will mourn his loss daily, we know we will be reunited in time.
We thank all of you for your thoughts, prayers, and support during this difficult time. Exodus 23:20 “See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.”
