Harry Douglas Gray - April 11, 1950 - August 30, 2023

Departed: 08/30/2023 (Marshall)
Obituary Preview: Harry Douglas Gray (Doug),73, of Ada, Virginia passed away peacefully surrounded by his four children and family on August 30, 2023.
Doug is survived by his four sons, Chris, Brian, David and Tony, his sisters Millie and Kay, brothers John and Mark, twelve grandchildren, Jordan, Taylor, Trenton, Jake, Daniel, Brieann, Darren, Caden, Wesley, Lucy, Marshall Buck, and Honus, his stepson Stevie, daughter in laws Valerie, Marnie and Jane.
Doug is preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Bertha Lanham Gray, his father Harry E. Gray "Buck", mother Helen Frazier Gray, sister Pamela, brother Jerry and grandson Dylan.
Doug was born on April 11, 1950, and grew up in Ada, Virginia. Doug graduated from Fauquier High School in 1968. After high school, Doug married and raised his four sons living in Fauquier and Loudoun counties where he worked on farms, trained horses, learned to be a master gardener and did a lot of coon hunting.
Doug later owned and operated Grays Turf, utilizing his skills and eye for detail to shape and maintain some of the most beautiful properties and estates in Northern Virginia for nearly 40 years.
In 1992 Doug met the love of his life Bertha, and they married in June 1993. Bertha's influence changed the trajectory of Doug's life. Bertha loved Doug unconditionally, with respect and fervor like no other, and Doug did her as well. Those close to them all agree that Bertha saved Doug's life, smoothing his "rough edges", turning a Freestate Rambler into the kind, caring and loveable guy that family and friends knew and loved.
In his final years, during Bertha's illness, Doug returned the unconditional love given to him, caring for Bertha and fulfilling their wedding vows, for better or worse, in sickness and in health, till death do they part. Theirs was the perfect love story.
Doug was a good man, not a perfect man. His life story and legacy are best summed up in one word...Redemption! Redemption in all parts of his life. For this, his sons and family are forever grateful.
Doug Gray from Ada Virginia touched many lives and was loved by so many. He will be forever in our hearts and will be greatly missed. Emily Bernice Simpson - October 23, 1945 - August 09, 2023

Departed: 08/09/2023 (Marshall)
Obituary Preview: (Emily) Bernice lit up a room and was a bouncy-ball of positive energy who always had a smile on her face. She didn’t know a stranger whether locally or on the other side of the world. She made friends everyplace she went. All loved her. She was well known in her community from her times of driving a dump truck and school bus, working in post offices from Delaplane, Marshall, Middleburg, Hamilton, Purcellville, Waterford and Linden and then owning the local 7-Eleven. She could do anything.
Bernice passed away on August 9th, 2023 at the age of 77. She was born on October 23rd, 1945 to Mattie Agnes & Channie Pearson in Front Royal, Virginia. She stayed in the area where she married young and knew how to drive every vehicle and was licensed for all but a motorcycle. As she ventured to the second part of her life, Bernice fell in love with Clyde and they were married in 1989. Combined they have five wonderful children Clyde Raymond Simpson, Jr., Emily DaWan Morgan, Sharon Renee Marlow, Dana Rae McArthur and Kenneth Wayne Simpson. After retiring from the Linden Post Office, Bernice and Clyde retired to Ocala, Florida to enjoy some peace and quiet which didn’t last long before she had to get busy and received her real estate license where she met another set of wonderful friends. They moved back so she could own and run the 7-Eleven of Marshall, Virginia and again impacted her community in a positive way with her infectious smile. She demanded all the State Troopers give her hugs and loved supporting her local Fire & Rescue. She considered everyone family which was her reason for being so joyful. She loved to be outside; whether growing flowers, watching wildlife, or soaking up the sunshine. That sunshine then came through in her loving personality. As a tribute to our loving wife, mother, Grammy, sister, aunt, boss, etc., please help us flood the Marshall Ruritan Building with flowers in her loving memory.

Barbara Haun - December 01, 1952 - May 29, 2023

Departed: 05/29/2023 (Marshall)
Obituary Preview: Barbara Haun, 70, of Venice, Florida passed away suddenly on May 29, 2023. Barbara was born on December 1, 1952, to John Boley and Mary Falls in Fauquier County, Virginia. She spent 42 years in Virginia and then moved to Venice, Florida in 1994.
Barbara was the rock of her family. She was a very generous person who was always willing to help others. From lending an attentive ear to her family and employees, to offering words of encouragement to loved ones, and to making others smile with her playful sense of humor, Barbara will be greatly missed. She enjoyed simple pleasures in life like cooking delicious meals for her family, playing card games with the grandkids, reading a good book, and watching Hallmark Christmas movies. In her younger days, she enjoyed trips to Las Vegas with Ralph. Her uncle, Garry, his wife, Doris, and their son, Garry, Jr. held a special place in her heart. Garry and Doris were like siblings to her enjoying many hours sitting on the porch reminiscing about the old days, cooking, shopping, trying new restaurants, or arguing about who was cheating at cards.
Since caring for others came easily to her, she spent over 30 years as a nursing aide. Later in her career, she transitioned to housekeeping supervisor working at numerous facilities which allowed her to demonstrate her natural leadership abilities. She was often called upon to be the fixer of struggling departments. She relished these opportunities and took on the challenges without hesitation. The part of her career that she most enjoyed, though, was being able to interact with residents of the nursing homes. She was passionate about treating elderly patients with dignity and respect. Despite health issues in later years, Barbara continued to work in the healthcare field because she enjoyed the people element of her jobs.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Ralph Haun, Jr., her daughters, Kim (Matt) Barden and Seryna Haun, and Ralph Haun, III her, “baby boy.” Granddaughter, Taylor, grandsons, Jacob, Ralph IV, Ryan, Hunter, Alex, and Aaron, whom she adored, cherished, and spoiled, also survive her. Additionally, she is survived by half-brothers, Jimmy (Delores) Carter and Joe Carter, and half-sister, Jean (Wayne) Moore, uncle, Garry (Doris) Falls, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Royston Funeral Home on Friday, June 2 at 10am followed by a graveside service.

Why are obituaries important?
