Kenneth Hodges - July 28, 1940 - January 25, 2023

Departed: 01/25/2023 (Twin Falls)
Obituary Preview: Kenneth D. Hodges Sr, age 82, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 25, 2023, in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Born in Whitefish, Montana on July 28, 1940, he was the second child of Donald and Lois (Prather) Hodges. He spent many years of his childhood on the move with his family across many states stretching from Montana to California. He would attend many schools and ended up in Dillon, Montana, where he attended through the 8th grade. After enlisting in the Marine Corp, he served his country proudly from 1957 to 1961 where he not only obtained his GED, but he also received many honors, the two he was most proud to brag about was Machine Gunner and Marksman.
After serving his country, Ken returned to Montana and began to learn many trades. His life took a major turn on New Year’s Eve 1961 when he met the love of his life. Although they may not have hit it off the first night, Ken ended up marrying Norma Elsie Maxwell on July 20, 1962. Ken and Norma went on to have 4 children: Kristine Marie, Heidi Jean, Stacey Renee and Kenneth Jr. From working at the truck stop, where they met, to gold mining in South Dakota, they made several moves in their life before ending up in Idaho in 1969. Ken went to work for Peter Kiewit and Sons Construction and worked there until 1980. During this time, he helped build some major projects across Idaho, including the expansion of the interstate system, as well as the road and construction of the present-day Perrine Bridge in Twin Falls, Idaho.
In 1980, Ken went to work for Savage Ranches in Kimberly, Idaho and worked until an accident forced him to change jobs in 1983. He went on to work a few other jobs and tried to run his own business. While operating his sharping shop and small motor repair business, he worked for the Kimberly School district as a bus driver until 1993. This was a hard time for Ken as the love of his life passed away unexpectantly in March of that year. After the passing of Norma, Ken married Dorothy L. Barnes on June 14, 1997. Ken went on to work full time as a bus mechanic until July 2002, when he retired. In 2003, Ken started doing small jobs for Rulon and Kreen Gilbert and it gradually became a full-time job. Ken worked for the Gilberts at Purple Sage and then as a truck driver and mechanic for Gilbert Trucking until Gilberts retired. He ended his working career at Everton Mattress when an accident put him back to full time retirement in 2013.
Ken had many interests in life. He was an avid bowler, golfer, enjoyed to fish, hunt, play all types of games and spend time with his grandkids. He loved his time at the ranch with his brother and many others, especially when an intense game of pinochle was played. Ken was a proud member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Ken and Dorothy were foster parents for many years and affected many lives along the way with their love. After the passing of Dorothy in November 2019, Ken went on to finish out his life in Kimberly and Twin Falls.
Ken is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wives and daughter, Heidi.
He is survived by his children (blood, step, foster and their spouses), his sister, Betty, and brother, Jim, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at Rosenau Funeral Home at 2826 Addison Avenue East, Twin Falls, Idaho. Funeral services, with military honors, will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at 2pm at Rosenau Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Sunset Memorial Park in Twin Falls, Idaho at a later date.

Danny Edwards - February 16, 1947 - January 20, 2023

Departed: 01/20/2023 (Twin Falls)
Obituary Preview: Danny Duane Edwards was born on February 16, 1947 to Donald and Vira Edwards in Twin Falls, Idaho. An only child, Danny graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1965 and attended Northwest Nazarene
College where he studied religion and art. In 1966, Danny enlisted in the Army National Guard during the Vietnam War. He completed basic training at Ft. Polk, LA and was subsequently awarded a place in combat medic school at Ft. Sam
Houston, TX. He was honorably discharged in 1972 with the E-5 rank of Spec/5. After praying for a life partner and companion, God brought Filer native Lynda Sharp to Danny in early 1970. They were engaged sixteen days after the two first sat together at a church revival and married six months later on August 1st . While this short courtship resulted in 52 years of wedded bliss, Danny jokingly cautioned his kids and grandkids against the practice. The two had three children: Scot, Holly,
and Dustin. Danny began his career in broadcasting, and his signature bass voice brought Magic Valley news to viewers of KMVT and listeners of KLIX. After leaving broadcasting, he went on to work alongside his father as an appraiser before pursuing his true passions in life. Since childhood, Danny desired to work with his hands. Ever the curious youngster, his mother would often find—much to her dismay—that a household clock or kitchen appliance had been disassembled so an inquisitive boy could decipher its innerworkings. Most of them were never successfully reassembled, but his desire to earn a living by his
hands only grew. In 1976, alongside his father, he started Dande Wood Manufacturing, a bedroom furniture and waterbed business. In 1980, the father-son duo added a retail component in the Twin Falls Lynwood Shopping Center: Danny D’s Waterbeds. It was around this same time that Danny discovered the talent
for which he would become world-renowned. A walk in the park in the late 1980s drastically changed the course of Danny’s life. He encountered a gentleman at an art fair named Earl McAdams, a local firefighter and amateur sculptor. Danny was captivated by Earl’s work and asked many questions. A few short years later, Danny divested from the
furniture business to try his hand at sculpting professionally. While Danny tried (mostly unsuccessfully) to hide his first sculptures away in the basement, his skill and notoriety grew throughout the remainder of his life. What started as a humble venture in his garage eventually grew into a professional art studio, a commercial bronze foundry, and global notoriety. His handiwork can be found in the halls of prominent businesses, historic places, and the homes of
dignitaries, including the late President Ronald Reagan. Danny’s artistic works can be found prominently displayed across the world, including in Germany and Singapore. His larger-than-life-size monuments, the most viewed and publicly adored of his works, include: “Chance Encounter” and “Over the Top,” the western wildlife trademarks of Jackson Hole, WY; “I Am the Way, the Truth, and the Life,” a depiction of Christ located on the Nampa, ID campus of his alma mater (though students will likely know him as the creator of the unofficial mascot “Howard the Elk”); and “Trailin’ Home,” a tribute to Idaho’s sheep industry in the historic hubs of Hagerman and Hailey. Each of Danny’s sculptures was stamped with a stand of three pine trees, capturing the two
things he held dearest: the Holy Trinity and the great outdoors. Outside his visual artistic abilities, Danny was also a talented musician. During his early years, he visited many local churches as the bass singer in numerous gospel quartets. Later on, he and Lynda were part of a travelling musical evangelist group called The King’s Brass. He played trumpet and she the saxophone and piano. In his fifties, as church music began to modernize, his music pastor noted a need for a bass guitar player. Never one to back down from a challenge, Danny volunteered, purchased a guitar, and painstakingly learned to play as Lynda played the notes on their basement piano. The hard work paid off, however, and he played in numerous bands and church ensembles the rest of his life—though his signature warmup song, cowboy ballad “Ghost Riders in the Sky,” sometimes confused the other
members of his rock bands. To his family and friends, Danny will be remembered as a masterful storyteller, a brilliant inventor, and a powerful witness for Jesus. His eloquent stories, usually told beside a campfire near the Sawtooth Mountains, captivated generations of his offspring. His inventive mind brought about more sturdily- build and well-designed contraptions than anyone can count, with his stretch-wire gate latch, mobile elliptical machine, and UTV dust mitigation system being the most memorable. He always put his family first, and each of his children and grandchildren can point to a conversation (or twelve) where he
reminded them that the riches of this world cannot compare to a life of faithful relationship with Jesus.
Surrounded by family, Danny entered into Glory on January 20, 2023, after a valiantly fought battle with lung cancer. Though the disease took his body, his family takes great comfort in the knowledge he has finally won victory over sickness through Christ Jesus. He is survived on Earth by his wife Lynda; his mother Vira; children Josh and Holly (Edwards) Beymer and Dr. Dustin Edwards; and nine grandchildren: Justin (24), Madison (22), and Shayne (18) Edwards; Tanner (28) and Taylan (24) Beymer; and Drew (22), Lauren (20), and Jaiden (8) Edwards; and Reese Katzenberger (14). He was preceded in death by his father Don and his son Scot. A celebration of life will be held at the Magic Valley Bible Church in Twin Falls on Sunday February 12 th at
3:00 p.m. All who knew this incredible man are welcome to share in his memory.

Departed: 12/06/2022 (Twin Falls)
Obituary Preview: Fritz Gerald Rork, 85, of Twin Falls, Idaho passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at his home. Fritz is survived by the children and grandchildren from his previous marriages to Joan and Helen, his many cherished friends and by his faithful dog, Molly. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Bronell Rork, his father Ralph Rork, his mother Thelma Florence Rork Stuhlberg, his sister Joyce Ann Santos, and his previous wife Helen May Rork. Fritz was born May 30,1937 in Gooding, ID. He was a hardworking man from a young age. In 1951 Fritz achieved Eagle Scout status and shortly after, in 1955, he graduated from Gooding High School. Fritz served in the Army National Guard from 1961 to 1967. After high school at the young age of 19, he began working as a Janitor for Mountain Bell and was quickly promoted to Splicer. The hardworking man was not a Splicer for long as he quickly advanced to become an Engineer, a position he would happily spend the remainder of his working life in. Fritz was a devoted employee of Mountain Bell for over 30 years. Still a hard worker in his retirement, Fritz contracted as an engineer for several companies for many more years. If it weren’t for his deteriorating eyesight, he may have worked right up until his final days. Fritz was married to Helen May Hobbs Rork until her passing in 2004. In 2008 he married Joan Bronell McCoy Rork, who became the very center of his world. Anyone lucky enough to experience the two of them together knew that they brought each other the kind of love and happiness few in this life get to share. Fritz had a charismatic personality and was able to make friends no matter the situation and was abundantly generous to those around him. Fritz was never late to 4 o’clock happy hour and he especially enjoyed Tuesday nights at the Shuffle Inn with his best buddies. He was a huge sports fan. He loved watching football and golf and most of all watching his beloved BSU on the Blue. He spent almost all his free time throughout his life enjoying the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, taking multiple trips to Alaska for Salmon, Astoria for Sturgeon, and the Salmon Dam for Trout. He loved hunting for big game including Deer, Elk, Moose, and even a Buffalo. Whether it was fishing or hunting, Fritz never came home empty handed. However, none of these could rival camping and exploring nature in their razor with the love of his life by his side, Joan. Fritz was truly a great man whose impact will be forever felt. He was a selfless man whose passing has left a hole that only he can fill. His ability to love, sacrifice, provide for, and support those he knew, as well as his endless generosity will forever be lessons to all. At Fritz’s request no services will be held. The children of his late wife, Joan Rork - Doug McCoy, Denise McCoy Jozwik, and Darcy McCoy Heckathorne - will be planning a celebration of life for Fritz and Joan in the near future. If you would like to honor Fritz’s life, please donate to a charity of your choosing in his name. Arrangements are under the direction of Rosenau Funeral Home.

Howard Thad Scholes - May 11, 1937 - December 05, 2022

Departed: 12/05/2022 (Twin Falls)
Obituary Preview: Living Eighty-five years makes for a good life. If you live it like Thad Scholes did, it can be incredible. Doc Scholes was a fixture in Twin Falls – someone whom it seemed like had been here forever and would be here forever. Sadly, we lost a great man early Monday morning with his passing.
Howard Thad Scholes was born May 11, 1937, to Allie Thatcher Scholes and Standley Fishburn Scholes in Logan, Utah. The family, including his brother (Standley “Bud”), and sister (Luana), lived in Logan for a few years before relocating to Twin Falls, Idaho. Thad graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1955.
Life and education took Thad all over the world. He was a proud Idaho Vandal who was member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and competed for the University in both tennis and track & field. After graduating early from Idaho, he attended medical school at the University of Southern California – also a proud Trojan. He went on to serve in the U.S. Navy, becoming a Flight Surgeon and working with the U.S. Marines in various spots in the Pacific. On leave from a Naval base in Texas, he made the long drive to see his dear friend, Judy Bracken, in Twin Falls. While there, he proposed, and she accepted. Their wedding on June 1, 1965, was the starting point for a wonderful 55-year joint adventure.
Upon leaving the Navy, he returned to Twin Falls as a General Practitioner. One very early morning, however, after a 3 am delivery, he made the decision to switch gears and move into dermatology. Training in his new specialty led him and his new family to the Cleveland Clinic for three years before he could come back home to hang out his shingle. In 1973, Doc returned to Twin Falls for good. He opened a practice which eventually became Scholes & Scholes Dermatology; his son Chris had the good fortune to practice with him for 16 years.
Doc was a public servant as well. He gave countless hours to the Twin Falls Rotary Club, various medical societies, and to the College of Southern Idaho. He loved CSI. He was the first CSI school physician, and later served as the team doctor for countless CSI squads in many different sports. He served on the CSI Board of Trustees for 35 years, including four years as Chairman. Partially through his efforts, CSI was able to re-establish programs in track and cross-country, a fact that gave him great joy. Just three days before his passing, he was especially honored to attend the celebration for the CSI Cross-country team’s national championship.
The titles that mattered the most to Doc, and those that defined him best, are “husband,” “father,” and “Papa.” He adored Judy, his “girl with moonlight in her eyes”, from high school, through marriage, and to their separation only by her death. At every gathering since that time, the family would hear lovely and heartfelt tales of their life together. Part of every cabin visit was to pick wildflowers to put in a small vase on the dinner table in Judy’s memory.
Thad was an amazing father and grandfather who spent countless hours attending and cheering at baseball games, basketball games, horse shows, dance recitals, track meets, triathlons, musical performances and debate tournaments, rarely missing an event. Nothing provided him more joy than supporting those he loved most.
In 2000, he finally found the cabin in the woods that he had wanted for a lifetime. The next twenty years saw many weekends with family there, regardless of season. Those years featured games, ATV rides to the meadow, and long walks. Many hours were spent on the front porch staring at the mountain and hearing stories – sometimes the same story, repeated. His grandchildren all have fond memories of waking up at the cabin with Papa already awake and waiting to offer freshly made hot chocolate and omelets made in Ziploc bags. That cabin, very much a shared happy place, was the staging ground for his grandson Brooklyn’s wedding. As the bride said: “Papa was the coolest groomsman you could ever ask for and a very handsome one to boot.” Many memories were made there, and much love shared.
Doc was looking toward the future, even in the last years. He was excited about driving an all-electric Ford Lightning pickup (with every bell and whistle) which had been ordered. After being sidelined by a hip fracture, he was working diligently on his physical therapy so that he could make a Presidents’ Day weekend snow trip back to the cabin. This summer, he and his friend Tony Mannen attended the World Track and Field Championships, and they both were looking forward to the upcoming years of NCAA Track and Field.
Thad Scholes – “Doc” Scholes -- was an amazing and complete man. He was impressive without effort, and never felt like he needed to be the most important person in the room. He will be missed as a father, a grandfather, a friend, and a colleague. As tempting as it is to view his life through the lens of it ending, we all should remember in Thad’s case that he didn’t lose in a few days of dying, but rather won over 85 years of living. Even in his final days he was making jokes and memories with family. He will be remembered and missed. We are poorer with his death, but very much richer with his life.
Thad is survived by his two sons, Chris (Anna) and Scott (Kim) and his grandchildren Brooklyn (Janae), Braden, Summer, Mia, and Anthony. He was preceded in death by his wife Judy, his brother Bud, and sister Luana.
A memorial service will be held at the CSI Fine Arts Auditorium on Saturday, December 10 at 9:30am. A reception will follow at 10:30 at the Twin Falls Center for the Arts, Sligar Auditorium. As Doc was not a suit-and-tie sort of guy, the family encourages you to come in your CSI colors or CSI gear. For those who are not able to attend in person, there will be a live stream of Thad’s service. The live stream can be found at: https://youtu.be/WJnWWNrxgR4

Humberto S. Luis - November 04, 1933 - December 03, 2022

Departed: 12/03/2022 (Twin Falls)
Obituary Preview: Humberto Silveira Luis, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Saturday, December 3, 2022.
Humberto was the fifth child born November 4, 1933 to Francisco Silveira Luis and Maria do Ceu Alves Luis in Pedro Miguel, Faial, Azores, Portugal. Growing up, he was stubborn, ornery, and always full of mischief; living up to the family nickname ‘iscapucha’ which even after all these years, is still known and fits perfectly.
Growing up on Faial was hard, yet they made the best of it. At the urging of his father, he left Faial to go to Lisbon where he discerned priesthood. He would come home dapperly dressed with his long traditional black coat and heeled boots. For many, it was a sight to see, given his ornery disposition. After three years, he left seminary, and returned home to his village. There he started dating his beautiful bride, Maria Amélia. They were married November 16, 1957, and just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
In June of 1959, Humberto and Maria welcomed their first daughter, Mary. Shortly after her birth, the door was opened for them to immigrate to the United States under the Azorean Refugee Act, due in part to an active volcano destroying their island. In January of 1960 Humberto and his young family left Faial. Once they arrived in the US, they settled in Elk Grove, California where he went to work on a dairy the very next day.
In September of 1960, they welcomed another daughter, Gorette. In July of 1962, they welcomed their third daughter, Linda. After her arrival the family moved to Tracy where son Lester joined the family In May of 1966. Tracy is where they would call home for the next 30 years. He took a job as a carpenter, and was soon building cabinets and custom furniture as a career.
They made California their home, where family was the center point. He was thrilled when his brothers and their families joined them there. They enjoyed weekend trips to Santa Cruz, Portuguese festas, camping, and of course church. Humberto was a devout Catholic and made sure his children were brought up in Catholic school, as well as attending mass.
Life became even better when he became a grandfather. He would be blessed with four grandsons, Steven, Kevin, Brian and Joseph. He was so proud of each one of them, and was always supporting them in every way growing up.
When Humberto and Maria retired, they built a cabin in Arnold, California. There they enjoyed several years of peace and beauty in the foothills of the Sierras. However, their daughters Mary and Gorette had moved to Idaho, and that is where the grandkids were. So, in 1999, they made the decision to move up to Idaho. Linda and Lester tagged along, too. Later on, they also welcomed four beautiful great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored. He absolutely loved being a part of their everyday lives. They enjoyed many happy years where they gardened, traveled all over in their motorhome, and spent more quality time with family.
His garden was a showpiece. He grew some of the best fruit and produce, especially the yummy couves that are a staple in Portuguese cooking. Being his ornery self, he was always trying to have his little farm right in the middle of town. He had rabbits, rabbits and more rabbits, chickens and roosters, even a goat; much to his wife’s dismay. He would feed those animals all of the bounty from their garden, much to our dismay.
He will be so dearly missed by all of us. His orneriness and laughter were contagious. We are all deeply saddened by his passing, but are rejoicing that he is in his Eternal home.
Humberto is survived by his wife Maria Amélia, daughters Mary (Manuel) Faria, Gorette Bertao and Linda Luis; son Lester Luis; grandsons Steven (Marijo) Faria, Kevin (Aimee) Faria, Brian (Cassie) Faria and Joseph Bertao; great-grandchildren, Jacklyn, Danielle, Luke and Bridget Faria; sisters Teresa Vargas of Faial, and Manuela Silva of Portugal; sister-in-law Albertina Luis of San Jose, California; along with numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws Ildefonso and Amelia de Oliveira; and siblings Maria, Jose, Francisco, Idilia, and Henrique.
A viewing will be held Monday, December 12th, at Rosenau Funeral Home, from 5 to 7 pm with the recitation of the rosary to begin at 7 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, December 13th at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, with Father Julio Vicente officiating. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
