Obituary Preview: Paul Mangiafico, 94, of West Hartford, Connecticut passed away peacefully the morning of November 20th, 2022 at Brookdale Assisted Living. Paul was born on January 2, 1928 in Italy. Paul lived a very wonderful and full life. He served four years in the United States Navy serving in WWII. Paul worked 43 years at Hartford Electric Light Company as a jet maintenance supervisor. He was a Free Mason as well as designed and invented equipment. He was also a life-long member of Saint James Episcopal Church of West Hartford. Paul was very loved by his family He is proceeded in death by his mother, Carmella Lombardo; father, Salvatore Mangiafico; brother, Salvatore Mangiafico and sister, Connie Ficcara. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Josephine Mangiafico and two sons, Mark Mangiafico and his wife Theresa Mangiafico, and Michael Mangiafico. Paul is also survived by one granddaughter, Jillian Mangiafico and two great grandchildren, Adam Mangiafico and Savannah Mangiafico. A service will be held at Rose Hill Funeral Home on Friday, November 25th, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. Friends and family are welcome.

Obituary Preview: Margaret Mary (Petersen) Valencia Lassen of Cromwell was born November 8, 1932, and passed peacefully at home, November 16, 2022, at the age of 90. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Mary (Holleran) Petersen and Matthew Petersen; her husband, Robert Pacheco Valencia; her second husband, Carl M. Lassen, Jr.; her brother, Michael Petersen; her beloved son, Thomas Valencia, and her beloved grandson, Robert K. Roulx.
Margaret graduated from Mount St. Joseph Academy in 1950. She attended St. Joseph College, West Hartford, CT and Mary Immaculate College, North Hollywood, CA. Margaret met Bob Valencia in California and they married in 1952. They returned to Connecticut to start a family and raised eight children before Robert died in 1968. Margaret worked in human services as a Program Director for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in Hartford; as a group home manager for His Dwelling Place in East Hampton; and as a residential instructor for MARC in Cromwell. She was also a union delegate for SEIU 1199. Margaret became a farmer at the age of 47 when she married Carl Lassen, Jr., and they worked side by side, raising beautiful flowers and vegetables until he passed in 1997. She was an avid reader, rockhound, and a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and the UConn Women’s basketball team (Go Huskies!).
Margaret is survived by her devoted children - Mary Valencia, Anne Valencia (William DeRose), former R.I. State Representative Lawrence M. Valencia of Cranston, RI, Daniel Valencia of Washington, DC, Theresa Valencia, daughter-in-law Karen Valencia (widow of Thomas Valencia), Irene Marquis (Richard Marquis), and Christine Whitney (John Whitney). She is also survived by her beloved fourteen grandchildren – Kirsten Brown (Keith Brown), Eric Kelly (Pamela Bials-Kelly), Michael Kelly (Miriah Russo-Kelly), Ashley Roulx (widow of Robert K. Roulx), Catherine Whitney, Thomas Roulx, Lee Valencia (Kagari Valencia), Lauren Valencia, Jacqueline Valencia (Brett Pierson), Emily Marquis (Cal McNamara), Danielle Shepherd (Joseph Shepherd), Nicole Valencia, Sarah Marquis, Xaviera Valencia, and Isabel Valencia and her mother Melanie Johnston. Margaret adored her ten great- grandchildren – Erin Bials, Katherine Bials, Benjamin Bials, Kayla Brown, Kyle Brown, Brandon Shepherd, Stella Kelly, Maximus Shepherd, Ezekiel Pierson, and Jaxon Shepherd. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law – Valerie Petersen, Ernestine Orozco, Artemesa Carbajal, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and cherished friends. A Wake will be held Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022, from 5-7 PM at the Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm Street, Rocky Hill, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Dec. 2, 2022, 10 AM at St. John’s Church, St. John’s Court, Cromwell, CT. Interment to follow immediately in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill, CT.
