Obituary Preview: Mother Rebecca Saint Clair Rogers Gilliam was born November 1, 1931, in Carlisle, West Virginia to David Crockett Christian and Savannah Robinson Christian. She was one of ten children: Joyce, Odessa, Charles, Joe Louis, Daisy Mae, Mary, Aaron, Frank, and Donnell who all preceded her in death. In later years, the family moved to Mount Hope, West Virginia, where they established a produce and poultry farm. Mother Rebecca was joined in holy matrimony to the late Windell O. Rogers April 13, 1952. The couple moved to Cleveland, Ohio and were blessed with the births of Windell II, Paulyette, Salynthe (deceased), Steve (deceased) and Phillip. She later married Roger Gilliam (deceased). To this union, Jules was born. Mother Rebecca was known to have a strict hand in raising her children. She instilled the value of a good education and excellence in professional pursuits. These opportunities were denied to her as a young woman growing up in a southern state. She taught her children to seek knowledge, be clean, self-sufficient and to trust God. In addition to raising her family, Mother Rebecca found time to pursue her own interests. She attended stenography school and later worked as a stenographer. She enrolled in dental assistant training and subsequently worked as a dental assistant. Mother Rebecca also studied at Jane Addams School of Practical Nursing. She loved to travel, especially accompanied by her children and other family members. Some of her favorites include cruising, visiting California and Florida. Mother Rebecca was a lifelong learner; she kept abreast of current news events; read the newspapers daily and became skilled in completing crossword puzzles and Sudoku. In 1974, Mother Rebecca Gilliam she was led of the Lord to worship Him as a Seventh Day Adventist. She was regarded as a helpful, cheerful servant. Mother Gilliam mentored many young ladies in the Word of God, as well as practical homemaking skills. She dedicated her remaining years to studying and learning bible principles and living according to the Word. She often reminded others to “get right with God because we are living in the last of the last days.” Later in life, she began her career as a social worker. By completing a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work at Capitol University in Columbus, Ohio and receiving certification in 1992, Mother Rebecca became one of the first state-certified social workers in Ohio. Those who remain to cherish her memory: sons Windell (Clinton MD), Phillip (Carileen) (Brandon, FL), Jules (Cleveland, OH); daughter Paulyette (Farmington Hills, MI); brother Jerry (Margo) (Cleveland, OH); three grandsons; three granddaughters; one great-grandson; two great- granddaughters; cousins and other wonderful family members and friends. Special daughters Dariel
Powell (Taylor, MI) and Kandice Bland (Cleveland, OH). And of course, her brothers and sisters at the Maranatha Seventh-Day Adventist Church where she served for many years. The family extends special thanks to the staff at Grande Pointe Nursing of Richmond Heights, Ohio, notably Vanessa Purnell. Thank you to Hospice of the Western Reserve, Cleveland, Ohio for their support during this time of transition. Obituary Preview: On January 31, 1937, a second son, the third of eight children born to the union of the late Dirk Weston, Sr. and Seretha Perryman Weston.  They named this special child, Saul Weston affectionately known by his loving Cleveland friends as “Doc”.  He was educated in the Coahoma, MS school system. After graduation he enlisted in the US Army where he competed as a Boxer.  He acquired training and certification as a Boiler engineer which was his career to retirement.
If one were to describe Saul Weston, a summation would be A Legacy of Faith, Gratitude and Service.  He was a loving soul, sincere, helpful, and protective to all.  He kept his focus on the Holy Spirit and the word of God. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen - Hebrews 11:1
Religion was the central focus of his life at an early age he dedicated his life to Jesus Christ blessing Him with his voice of praise singing in the choir-Jehovah blessed Saul with a beautiful bass voice.  Saul grew to adulthood as a man of the people, trustworthy, ingenious, kind and generous, especially to his family, friends and church congregation, “The United House of Prayer for All People” joining in the early 1970’s.  He participated in various ministries and sought pleasure in servicing grounds and ensuring building temperature control. He is best remembered for his devotion and service to his Lord and Savior.
It was in the Spring, 1972 that Saul traveled from Cleveland, OH to the United House of Prayer in Washington, DC for a Conference and to introduce his recent gift from God to big sister Esther and her family.  On January 13, 1972, a daughter was born to Saul and Doris Hayden and they named their precious gift, Shirrell.
Saul departed this life on the early morning of Sunday, January 16, 2022 at his residence, God saw the road was getting rough and the hill was hard to climb, He gently closed His son’s loving eyes and whispered, “Peace be thine.” Saul left behind a beautiful memory; to us who knew and loved him that will never grow old.  He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Essie, Esther, Seretha and Rosetta; as well as brothers Primus, Dirk, Armstrong and Joshua.
Saul, a Giant to many leaves to love and cherish his memories, daughter, Shirrell Obodo, Atlanta, GA; brother, Theodore Weston, Sr., San Antonio, TX; sister-in-law, Iester Weston, Herndon, MS; 4 granddaughters, 1 great-grand; and a host of nieces, nephews, and special cousins.

Obituary Preview: Sheila A. Moore Thompson was born on November 29, 1949 in Louisville Kentucky, the beloved daughter of Cornelia Hannah (deceased). She was also proceeded in death by her aunt, Ann Walter. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband Marion ‘Tony’ Thompson and Brothers Terry Hannah (Valerie, deceased) and Kevin Hannah (Kim). Sheila was the beloved aunt to Kevin Justin Hannah, Julius Hannah (Amy), Ashley Hannah Sanderlin (Marcus) and Diamond Hannah. The great-aunt to Elliot and Evelyn Hannah, and Marcus Jr. and Amayah Sanderlin, and special cousin to Jack Walter and the Bibb family. Sheila received two master’s degrees from John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio. She served as a special education teacher, teaching supervisor and school psychologist for the Cleveland Metropolitan School District for over 25 years. After her retirement, in the memory of her grandmother, she and her mother, affectionately called “Cooka,” started E.S. Ralston Learning Center. They provided exceptional year-round early-childhood education, after school and summer care for children in the East Cleveland community and surrounding areas. They also opened E.S. Ralston Ice Cream shop serving the community premium ice cream and snacks during the summer. Sheila believed everyone deserved to be treated with dignity and respect and provided the best available resources and services to all people. Sheila was a humble and anointed servant of the Lord, whose mission was to spread the love of Jesus Christ. She was a faithful member of Antioch Christian Fellowship in East Cleveland and provided a storefront space for the church’s outreach center. She later attended church near her home until her death. Sheila was an entrepreneur whose kind, compassionate, and loving spirit was always demonstrated through her numerous projects helping others the Lord placed in her path to make their lives better. Sheila leaves a lasting impact on a host of family and friends across the country who loved her dearly and will always remember the positive influence she had on their lives. The family is thankful for the outpouring of love, prayers, cards, calls and support during this time. Private services were held on December 29, 2021. There will be a virtual Celebration of Life open to the public honoring Sheila in February 2022.
