Charlotte Fletcher - July 18, 1952 - February 26, 2022

Departed: 02/26/2022 (Dallas)
Obituary Preview: Every family has a story to tell; welcome to ours; Charlotte (Char) Gould Fletcher spent her final days of life at home surrounded and cared for by her cherished family. She leaves in us her memories of her love, laughter, and lifelong ministry as a witness to Christ. Char passed to the next life on Saturday, February 26, 2022.
Char was born in New Castle, PA, in July 1952 to Everett and Magdalene (Zurasky) Gould, who raised her on the family farm surrounded by her grandparents, aunts, uncles, dozens of cousins (especially Mel), and four siblings. She was the first girl in the family to wear a miniskirt, dawn a bikini, and buy a brand-new car, a stick shift that she drove for over 200,000 miles. At the age of 14,        Char accepted Christ into her heart. As a member of the Girl Scouts, she formed lifelong friendships and had the Scout Camp Charlotte named after her. After graduating from Shenango High School, she worked for the Lawrence County AAA and taught Sunday School at Savannah United Methodist Church.
Following her marriage in 1975, she moved to Sweet Valley, PA, and later raised her children at their home in Dallas, PA. Her home was the gathering place for family, friends, neighbors, church members, and her children’s friends! She enjoyed a good water battle and would secretly help the youngest participant. During a stenciling phase of her life, out of fear that she would stencil them next, family members were afraid to sit still for too long! Her home was dedicated to Christ. After retiring from her 32-year career with Commonwealth Telephone (later Frontier Communications), Char picked up her home phone and began routinely calling family and friends. She would keep everybody up to date with each other’s lives, even if it were about her hairdressers, cousin's son who was organizing a proposal to his fiancé! With her passing, those dear to her have realized that because Char was no longer connecting them with her stories, everybody would need to "actually call" each other!
She was a member and teacher for the Emmanuel Assembly of God. Later in her life, she attended Back Mountain Harvest. A few weeks before her passing, she sorted two boxes of mementos accumulated as a teacher at church. She kept the moments she shared with her students and church friends close to her heart. She hoped that they remember to keep Christ in their lives.
Her greatest joy was watching her sons, Jonathan and his wife Karen Fletcher of Oxford, PA, and Robert A. Fletcher, of Dallas, PA raise her grandchildren, Zuriel, Cole, and Cordelia. In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is survived by one acquired daughter, Crystal Copeland Min and her husband Sungwoo of  California her siblings Dale and his wife Sensarah Gould of New Castle, PA, Dorothy Gould of Ellwood City, PA, Martin Gould of New Wilmington, PA and Magdalene (Maggie) and her husband William (Will) Bishop of State College, PA, her maternal uncle, Walter Zurasky of Penn Hills, PA and 15 nieces and nephews followed by great-grand nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Her children would like to invite all who knew Charlotte to join with them to celebrate her life to be held, Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 11:00 AM at The Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, Inc., 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas, Pa. Friend may call Saturday from 9:00 AM until time of service.
Charlotte always chose to love everyone and to give to others whenever she saw a need. In lieu of donations to a particular charity, choose to love others as she would have. Go to your local food bank and donate food to provide for those in need. Volunteer/Donate to help your church’s outreach program. Support your local hospice as they support others during their greatest time of need. Or give to an organization that you feel makes a difference in this world.

Eleanor D. Fleming - May 01, 1921 - February 19, 2022

Departed: 02/19/2022 (Dallas)
Obituary Preview: Eleanor Jane Duncklee Fleming, a resident of Dallas for the past 73 years, died peacefully at her home on February 19.  She was 70 days shy of her 101st birthday.
Born on May 1, 1921, to Elmer and Mildred Duncklee, Mrs. Fleming spent her formative years in New England, first living in New London and then Mystic, Connecticut, in a picturesque home on the Mystic River banks.
Mrs. Fleming often said that she could not imagine a better childhood than hers.  She sailed, skated, and rowed on the Mystic River, where she also learned to swim.  A member of local Girl Scout Troop 26, she was awarded the Girl Scout’s highest award, the Golden Eaglet.  She reveled in Mystic’s rich seafaring history, rejoicing at the sight of the Charles W. Morgan, the oldest and last of the Atlantic Coast whaling vessels, coming up the Mystic River in 1941.
Proud of her New England roots, she took delight in reading and reciting the poetry of fellow New Englanders Robert Frost and Amy Lowell.
She was valedictorian of her 1938 Robert E. Fitch High School class. At the urging of her family doctor, she went to Boston’s Simmons College to pursue an education in nursing, graduating in 1943 with a B.S.N.
While at Simmons, Mrs. Fleming greatly enjoyed being part of the “Fetter Family of Boston”, a youth group led by Rev. Dr. Norman Fetter, and composed of college-age students from Simmons, Wellesley, Harvard, and other local colleges.  There she met her future husband, Robert “Bob” Lewis Fleming, to whom she was married for 67 years before he predeceased her in April 2011.
A well-known figure to many Back Mountain schoolchildren, Mrs. Fleming was a school nurse for decades, working at the Gate of Heaven School and for the Dallas School District.  Her patience, compassion, and kindness were qualities that made her exceptionally suited to being a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, school nurse, and friend to many.
After retirement, Mrs. Fleming and her husband Bob were able to take trips to places they had long wanted to visit, including the South Pacific where Bob had flown missions as a WWII Navy pilot.  Their trips to Africa were especially treasured, as the couple saw many animals in the wild, including Mrs. Fleming’s favorite - the elephant.
The most meaningful aspect of such travels, though, was the people met and friendships created.  Through the auspices of Servas International, Mrs. Fleming and her husband formed cherished relationships with others around the world.
An avid reader and lover of books, Mrs. Fleming was a long-standing supporter of the Back Mountain Library. She worked for years on behalf of the annual Library Auction, and was gratified to be a founding donor of the Back Mountain Library’s Giving Evergreens program.
She was a member for nearly 72 years of the Dallas United Methodist Church.  She and her husband Bob, and their children were chosen as “Christian Family of the Year” in 1961.
Mrs. Fleming is survived by her seven children and their spouses, Susan and Hugh Fitzpatrick (Coventry, RI); Peggy Fleming (Burr Ridge, IL); Jean Fleming and Arthur Posey (Wayland, MA); Lucy and Mike Messersmith (Dallas, PA); John and Kathie Fleming (Arcadia, CA); Nancy and Rick Stephenson (Philadelphia, PA); and Bill Fleming and Naomi Milton (Arlington, VA).
She is survived by 12 grandchildren, Debbie Fitzpatrick (Chestnut Hill, MA); Becky Fitzpatrick (Arlington, VA); Kerry Fitzpatrick (Arlington, VA); Melinda Karalius (Covington, LA); Robert Karalius (Burr Ridge, IL); Adam and wife Megan Posey (Ithaca, NY); Michael and wife Laura Messersmith (New York City, NY); Megan and husband Lee Christoff (Duluth, GA); John C. Fleming III and wife Becky Fleming (Glendale, CA); Elena Stephenson (Paris, FR); Ben Fleming (Arlington, VA) and Sarah Fleming (Arlington, VA); as well as two great-grandchildren, Gloria Posey (Ithaca, NY) and John C. Fleming IV (Glendale, CA).
She is also survived by nephew John Lamourine (Gales Ferry, CT); niece-in-law Jackie Lamourine (Niantic, CT); and niece-in-law Carole Lamourine (Old Lyme, CT).
