Obituary Preview: Known to his friends as Parker and sometimes even, “Bird Dog,” W. A. Parker of Linden, Texas, a much respected educator, loyal friend, and devoted father and grandfather passed from his Earthly home on Tuesday, February 21, 2017. Born in Vernon Parish, Louisiana on June 7, 1931, he leaves a legacy of truthfulness, a strong work ethic, unwavering support, enormous generosity, and a “sprinkling” of stubbornness and candor.
After graduating from Joaquin High School in 1949, he attended Howard Payne College on a football scholarship and earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University. Parker proudly served Linden-Kildare CISD for 28 years, 25 of those years as Superintendent of Schools. He began his coaching career in Tatum and served as coach and principal in Tenaha, Texas, where he and his former wife of 36 years, Beth McCoy Crawford, gained lifelong and treasured friends. While at Linden-Kildare, he built a reputation as a fair, straightforward, and resolute leader who put the wellbeing of children at the forefront of his every action. Among the many honors he received during his career, the 2000 dedication of the Linden-Kildare CISD W. A. Parker Administration Building was his most cherished. Parker was an avid quail hunter, dog lover, zealous gardener, and staunch supporter of all things L-K, especially L-K Tiger Football.
He is survived by his two daughters and son-in-law, Lisa Agnor of Marshall, and Pollianne and Mark Smith of Lufkin; four grandchildren, his pride and joy, Cally Nicholson and husband Nathan, Alex Agnor, Parker Echols and wife Diana, and Molly Kate Ernst and husband Trey; two great-grandchildren, both shining lights in his final months, Carmen Elizabeth Echols and Tate McCoy Nicholson; one niece, Yvonne Scanagatta; and special friend, Polly Foster.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Billy Parker; his loving parents, William Arthur and Nettie Jo Parker; and three sisters, Marilynn, Sue, and Doris.
The family will welcome visitors in the Fellowship Hall of the Linden United Methodist Church beginning at 11:30 a.m., on Friday, February 24, 2017 with the service following in the sanctuary at 1:00 p.m. Following the service, interment will be at Restland Cemetery in Tenaha, Texas under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden.

Shawn was an amazing man and was a friend to everyone he met. He would give anyone his last dollar and was intelligent with a ton of charisma. There was and always will be only one Shawn Claude Shamblin.
He is survived by his parents, Monte and Leslie Crompton, father, Dean Shamblin; brothers, Blaine Shamblin and sister-in-law, KaCee Adams, James Sabato; niece, Kabreigh Sabato; sister, Amanda Price and husband Dakota ; sisters, Miranda and Chelsea Crompton; grandparents, Bill and Gerri Chapman, Claude Lamar Shamblin and Pam Bryant Hough, and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his niece, Maddilynn Price and cousin, Jesse James Hamilton.

James A. "Pat" O'Rand - March 19, 1930 - December 19, 2016

Obituary Preview: James A. “Pat” O’Rand of Linden, Texas passed away on this 19th day of December, 2016 at the age of 86. Mr. O’Rand was born March 19, 1930. Pat was raised in Bear Creek, Texas and made Linden, Texas his home.
Mr. O’Rand was a 32nd Degree Master Mason, Shriner and A Noble of the Mystic Shrine. He was a former member of the Young Farmer’s Association and Cass County Cattleman’s Association. He was honored by the American Legion for his honorable service in the United States Armed Forces and for his Outstanding Service and Loyalty to the United States of America. Mr. O’Rand was a member of the VFW Post 6968 and was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in Japan and Korea and the U.S. Army National Guard. Staff Sergeant James A. O’Rand received numerous Certificates of Achievement from the Commanding General for his outstanding athletic ability.
Mr. O’Rand was retired from Red River Army Depot and was presented with numerous awards for implementing new ideas and procedures for his department. He also worked (9)1/2 years at Lone Star Steel and was a life-long livestock farmer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Linden and a former Sunday school teacher, a former member of the Truth Seekers Sunday School Class, the secretary of the Adult (4) Sunday school department, an Usher and a teacher for several years at the Linden Nursing Home.
Pat completed the 26 mile Dallas White Rock Marathon with record time at the age of 51. He also played semi-professional basketball. Pat graduated from Avinger High School in 1947 and was inducted in to the Avinger Hall of Honor for Outstanding Achievements. His athletic achievements lasted a life-time receiving numerous awards, trophies and recognitions in basketball and running. His hobbies were raising and buying cattle and country dancing. He always showed support for the Linden Future Farmers of America, Linden-Kildare Schools and the Linden softball and baseball teams and local youth athletics.
His donations in life were many. He provided life-long strength, love and care for his beautiful wife, Wilma A. O’Rand.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Wilma A. Self O’Rand, of Linden, two daughters, Tena Harrison of New Boston, TX and Jamie A. O’Rand of Linden, TX and three grandchildren, Carl Patrick Barthel of New Boston, TX, Morgan Tyler Stone of Linden, TX and Adam Conner Stone of Linden, TX and one great grandson, Harrison David Barthel and two great granddaughters, Hannah White and Hattie Grace Bartherl of New Boston, TX. and a number of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sneed O’Rand and Allie Faye Gilbert O’Rand, three brothers Wayne, Donald “Buddy”and Sidney “Red” O’Rand and two sisters, Christine O’Rand Johnson and Aline O'Rand Bennett.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on the 22nd day of December, 2016, at the First Baptist Church of Linden with Bro. Jackie Stanfield officiating. Burial to follow in the Bear Creek Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden.
