Mr. Floyd was born November 30, 1946 and passed away February 19, 2017. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and he loved his friends and church family. He loved being a Gideon, giving out Bibles, and witnessing for the Lord. Don was a deacon at Veal Switch Missionary Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran who served in Vietnam and he retired as Chief Probation Officer for Morris, Camp, and Titus counties. He was preceded in death by his mother, Geneva Floyd; and brother, David Floyd.

Mother Martha Ann Jones was born June 20, 1944 to the late Louella Jones-Reeves (Shebe) and the late S.J. Jones of Daingerfield. Her mother later married the late L.S. Reeves who partly raised her.
Mother Martha Jones matriculated through the J.J. Rhoads High School in Daingerfield, and graduated with the Class of 1963. She attended Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, TX for a year. Martha moved to Dallas and worked at Texas Instruments but came home every weekend to take care of her family. After over 13 years she moved back to Daingerfield and worked at Day & Zimmerman in Texarkana, Lone Star Steel, Thiokol in Karnack and the Daingerfield-Lone Star ISD for 15 years until her retirement. She was a hard working woman. On June 10, 1980 Martha married Mr. Arthur “Pokey” Jones . As a couple they loved to cook and opened their own home to many friends and relatives.
Mother Martha Jones grew up in Faith Temple Church of God in Christ. She served in every aspect of the church ministries from Sunshine Band, Purity Class, Sunday School, YPWW, Bible Band, YWCC & CWC, Choir, and she graduated to the Mothers Board. She was reborn into the Army of the Lord at the Faith Temple Church under the leadership of Superintendent Love Charles Castleberry in the year 1980 and water baptized in 1984. She has been a faithful member and continued to be faithful through the leadership of Superintendent Alfred C. Key, Sr. and, now, Pastor Alfred C. Key, Jr. She has served in leadership roles as Bible Drill Coordinator, Purity Class Helper, Church Secretary, Benevolence Assistant Secretary, and served faithfully as Sunday School Secretary until her health failed. She loved her church and her church family; and was a friend to all who needed her.
Mother Martha Jones leaves to mourn and cherish her memory, husband of 37 years, Arthur Jones; stepmother, Annie Lee Jones of Dallas; one daughter, Kathy D. Kelly (Charles); one son, Derrick D. Reeves (Lytha) of Garland; goddaughter, Passion Hayes-Perez (Jesse) of Frisco; four sisters, Dimple Patton of Lancaster, Carolyn Myers-Jones of Dallas, Rosa Ivory (Richard) of Daingerfield, Fannie Hayes (Marcus) of Cason; one step-sister, Connie M. Mary was born September 15, 1956 in Daingerfield Texas to Walter and Andrea Moore. Mary was the 4th of five beautiful children. Mary’s was educated in the Daingerfield/Lone Star Independent School District. She attended J.J. Rhodes and the Daingerfield High School. She was a proud graduate of the Class of 1975! In April of 1975 Mary gave birth to her first-born son, Jeramaine. Their bond was unbreakable. She strived to make sure Jeramaine knew that he was always loved. Mary set out to further her education at Tyler Junior College, but later returned home to assist in caring for her father. This began her passion in caring for others. She worked as a health Care Provider until 2014.
In 1980, Mary met Kelvin Woodard. To this union, three children were born named Tegria, Cindy, and Pete. Mary and Kelvin worked hard to ensure that all four children didn’t go without. She instilled in them the values of respect, love, and responsibility. She always pushed Jeramaine, Tegria, Cindy, and Pete to be independent, set goals, and most of all love each other.
Mary was preceded in death by her father, Walter Moore; mother, Andrea Moore; brothers, Melvin Moore (Bershera); Richard Moore, Walter Moore Jr.; nephew, Kevin Wilkerson, and her beloved son, Jeramaine Moore.

He received 2 service medals, National Defense Service Medal, and a Transportation Medal. Richard was a truck driver by trade. He was a loving father, husband, and grandfather. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, classic cars, and all family activities. Richard was loved by everyone. He was a man of faith who accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age. Richard's desire was to touch hearts and change lives. He will be missed greatly.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Louise Butterfield in 2002; and his sister,Linda Carol Butterfield-Graddis in 1980.

Dewey Malone Moore - October 20, 1929 - January 02, 2017

Obituary Preview: Dewey Malone Moore was born in a farm house on the Moore family home place, north of Mt. Vernon, Franklin County, Texas on October 20, 1929. The oldest of three sons of Mary Clifton and John Hoffman Moore, he lived a full life of 87 years, mostly in east Texas and departed this life Monday, January 2, 2017 at Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview, Texas. Dewey was preceded in death by his parents, a sister-in-law, Judy Williams Moore, a grandson, Jared Malone Alsobrook and his youngest brother John H. “Johnny” Moore, Jr.
Dewey grew up on the family farm north of Mount Vernon and attended the Mount Vernon public schools during the World War II years. After the War, his father, Hoffman acquired the local Ford Dealership and moved the family “off the farm and into town” in Mount Vernon. Dewey was a fun loving person, being well liked and much admired by his teachers and teammates. He was a bright student and a good athlete. He played football, baseball and basketball under the legendary Texas Sports Hall of Fame Coach “Catfish” Smith. His Senior Year in High School, 1947-48, both his football team and basketball team went undefeated with his Mount Vernon Tiger basketball team winning the Texas Class A State Championship. At football, he played Center with his brothers, Dale at Quarterback and Johnny at Half-Back. The Mount Vernon Tigers won back to back championships, and over four years racked up 43 wins with only 3 season ending losses. Dewey is mentioned and his performance is highlighted in Glen Onley’s book, Coach “Catfish” Smith and His Boys. Most of Dewey’s teammates were offered scholarships to play football, but Dewey wanted to fly airplanes. After high school graduation, he applied for pilot training with the U. S. Air Force.
Dewey and his wife Martha were married in Mount Vernon in 1948 and Dewey worked for his father, Hoffman at the Ford Dealership. They moved to Hughes Springs in 1954 when Dewey acquired a majority interest in the Ford Dealership in Hughes Springs where they have been residents for the past 62 years. Over the years, he also owned and operated other Ford Dealerships in Linden, Grand Saline and Mineola. For many years he served as a director of the Ford Dealers Advertising Fund of North Texas which led to their travels to many countries and exotic places around the world. He had a strong work ethic, as an automobile dealer, real estate developer, cattleman and rancher. For many years he was a renowned registered Charolaise Cattle breeder. And, he loved flying airplanes, being an accomplished pilot, along with a few of his partners, owning several airplanes. He was a 32° Mason, Shriner & Scottish Rite. He served on the HSISD School Board and was a member of the Lions Club. He also was a stockholder and served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Hughes Springs for many years.
Dewey is survived by his beloved wife, Martha; three daughters Angie Moore Freeman and her husband Jim of Del Norte, Colorado, Melinda Moore Kaufman and her husband Marc of Allen, Texas, and Amy Moore Nelson and her husband Rick of Hughes Springs; a son, Dewey M. “Rusty” Moore, Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Dallas. Grandchildren include, Heather Moore Russo of Naperville, IL, Luke Alsobrook of Kansas City, Leah Kaufman Gomez of Frisco, TX, Jordan Kaufman of Allen, TX, Lauren Kaufman Tillett of Howe, TX, Logan Nelson Bullard of Okinawa, Japan, and Peyton Nelson of Hughes Springs. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and a brother-in-law, Bill Hill of Mount Vernon and sisters-in-law, Bobbie Hill Williams of Rockwall and Jean Sutton Moore of Daingerfield. Dewey also leaves behind his brother, Dale E. Moore of Lake Whitney, Texas.
A Memorial Service to honor and celebrate Dewey’s life is scheduled for Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at The First Baptist Church in Hughes Springs with a graveside service to be held at 3:30 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery, 3 miles west of Hagansport, 15 miles North of Mount Vernon on Hwy 37. Rev. Larry Neely and Rev. Scott Darby will officiate. The family will receive friends and relatives Friday evening from 6 p.m. till 8 p.m. at Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs.

The threading of a beautiful life began on December 28, 1922 to the parents of the late Archie Sr. and Codella Woods. At the age of 18, Ruth Sheppard journeyed to California and discovered her amazing skill of sewing, as she embarked upon the path toward success as a seamstress. Aided by her third husband, the late Ross Sheppard, Ruth launched one of the first black owned cleaners in Los Angeles.
In 2014, Ruth found her way back to Texas, where she lived with her sister and caregiver, Edvernell Moss. In a symbolic measure of her grit, Ruth requested to be taken home, in her final days, where she died within half an hour of her 94th birthday. She was preceded in death by siblings, Louaria Grant, Arterry Sanders, Archie Charles Woods, Andrew “June” Woods, and Clarence “Speedy” Woods; and one daughter, Vernetta “Ann” Rogers-Battiest.

Herbert was a member of First Baptist Church in Avinger. He played on the Avinger High School State Championship basketball team and went on to play basketball at Panola College. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Herbert retired from Lone Star Steel after 33 years and spent ten years working for Avinger ISD. He was a former school board member and City Councilman in Avinger.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, John M. Young, Adelle Proctor, Eris Davis, Homer Young, Virginia McDaniel; granddaughter, Cameron Lowry.
Herbert is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gale Young of Avinger; sons and daughters-in-law, Andy and Carol Young of Frankston, Lane and Angie Young of Avinger; daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Paul Lowry; grandchildren, Logan Young, Taylor Young, Brody Lowry, and Abby Lowry; one sister, Mary Carlisle of Coushatta, Louisiana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
