Obituary Preview: Earl Nelson Condra, age 95, of Whitwell entered his Heavenly Home surrounded by family, Monday, May 6, 2024.
Earl attended and was a member of Looneys Creek United Methodist Church for over 80 years and loved the Lord with all his heart. He was a 1946 graduate of Whitwell High School where he was the Salutatorian, received his Bachelors at Georgetown College in 1954, and his Masters at Middle Tennessee State University in 1957. Earl was also a member of the Ministerial Association for over 41 years, Whitwell Hospital Board of Directors for 10 years, Whitwell Athletic Club for 12 years, Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department Board of Directors from 1976 to present, Crossroads Ruritan Club as a Charter Member, Whitwell Schools Foundation Board of Trustees member, Member of NEA, TEA, and MCTA 1951-1991, Member of Marion County Retired Teachers Association serving as Treasurer, Vice President, and President.
He also had a love for teaching and served as a teacher and principal at Hick's Chapel Elementary from 1949-1951, Teacher at Whitwell High School from 1954-1966. Principal of Whitwell Elementary School from 1966-1967, and Principal of Whitwell High School 1967-1991. Through those years he also coached Whitwell Junior High School football for 10 years, Whitwell Junior High girls and boys' basketball coach for 12 years, and Whitwell American Legion baseball coach for 8 years.
Earl received the Whitwell High School Outstanding Alumnus Award in 1988, Whitwell High School Outstanding Alumnus Award and scholarship award in 2017. In 2018 Whitwell High School named the home football stadium the "Earl N. Condra Stadium" after the great man he was.
He loved his wife with his whole heart and his Faith, Family and Students were what he cherished the most in life.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Joanne Condra; parents, Bennett and Katherine Condra; sister, Polly Chesnutt.
He is survived by his son, Barry (Tim Barnett) Condra; daughters, Melanie (Mark) Meshotto, Amy (Henry) Jordan; grandchildren, Megan (Jaryd) Parris, Micah (Carri) Meshotto, Hannah (Johnny) White, Madeline (Coale Gamble) Jordan; great grandchildren, Austin Condra, Ayden Parris, Abigayl Parris, Maddox and Cade Meshotto, Beau and Ellie White; brothers, Donald (Ann) Condra, Sam (Brenda) Condra; sister, Billie Ball; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be, Austin Condra, Ayden Parris, Johnny White, Coale Gamble, Micah Meshotto, Eric Condra.
Honorary Pallbearers are all members of Coach Condra's winning football team and Whitwell High School Staff and Administration 1967-1991.
Services will be held Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. CDT in the Chapel with Pastor Pam Kiper, Bro. Jim Troyer, Rev. Cecil Baxter, and Bro. Johnny White officiating. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Herman and Marie Grayson Hall; brothers, George Ray Hall and John William "Bill" Hall; sister-in-law, Norma Hixson Hall, Sylvia Schmitt Raulston, Carol Sharp Raulston, Glenna Webb Raulston, and Caroline Raulston Turner Mangrum; brother-in-law, Paul Raulston, Byron Raulston, and Donald Raulston.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 75 years, Fonda Raulston Hall; son, David (Karen Venable) Hall; daughter, Kay (Gary) Light; granddaughters, Allison Hall, Lori Hall (Guy Hansard, Jr.), Tonia Light (Elmo) Carabajal; grandson, Travis Light; great-granddaughters, Sarah Carabajal, Savannah Carabajal; sister-in-law, Reva Jo McDonough Hall; brother-in-law, Gene Raulston; several nieces and nephews; classmate Bonnie Mahan; and a host of friends.
Bob was a life long and active member of Sulphur Springs Methodist Church. He was a founding member of Crossroads Ruritan Club and remained an active member for 50 years. Bob was also actively involved in the Marion County Cattlemen's Association, and the Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department Board.
Through the years, Bob worked several jobs. Among them were heavy-equipment mechanic for TVA; a beloved school bus driver (which he began as a junior in high school); owner/operator of Crossroads Car Wash, since 1965; and cattle farmer.
In addition to his work, Bob enjoyed repairing and restoring tractors and gardening. He often repaired lawn mowers for neighbors, especially widows.
Bob was a faithful and loving husband, father, grandfather and a servant to his community.
Pallbearers are Guy Hansard Jr, Marty Raulston, Bill Raulston, Jim Turner, Travis Light, Owen Morrison, Tim Layne, and Charles McEntyre.
The Family would like to extend great appreciation to the 3rd floor staff at Memorial Hospital in Hixson, the staff at Gentle Hands Personal Care, and Hearth Hospice. Also, David and Kay are so thankful for the prayers, food, and support (of many forms) from our family and friends.
Funeral service will be held at Sulphur Springs Methodist Church Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 2pm CDT with Reverend Brenda Woods officiating. Internment will follow the service at Davis Cemetery. Edward Eugene Bird - February 24, 1935 - November 26, 2023

Obituary Preview: Edward "Ed" Eugene Bird Beloved Daddy, Papa, Brother, and friend.
Edward Bird was born and raised in Camden Arkansas. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy and attended the university of Arkansas to become an electrical engineer. After gaining his education he was employed by E.C Ernst and began his career as an electrical contractor. During this time, he was a reservist with the United States Navy for over 20 years and retired as a Lieutenant Commander of a Seabee detachment. After many years he chose to start his own business and moved to Chattanooga to start his business in 1972. Ecitco was very successful and in 1993 he was able to retire to spend time with his family at the home he labored so hard to build in Mullins Cove. Here he became known as "Papa" to his family and close friends.
Edward was preceded in death by his mother and father, Leola and Vernon Bird, his brothers Vick and Charles Bird as well has his lifelong wife, Ruth.
He is survived by his daughters Kathryn (Bill) Cobble and Rhonda (Heath) Goins. His Grandson Vincent Vella, Brothers Denver (Margaret) and Don Bird (Eloise). Many nieces and nephews. His bonus family Jessie and Heather Plott, as well as their children Aiden and Ari who he loved as his own. And his great grand-dog Remington who became his constant companion. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. Tuffy has been a faithful Christian woman her entire adult life and a member of the Church of God faith. She was an amazing cook, prayer warrior, and hard worker. There was never a time someone needed a comforting word of God that she was not there to encourage them in Christ. Although our hearts are breaking, we will celebrate her life and homegoing and will find comfort in knowing she is in heaven.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Charlie “Boogus” Morrison; daughter, Myrna Nolan; parents, Joe and Clara Ashburn; brother, Elbert Ashburn; sister, Sheryl Green; granddaughter, Michelle Morrison.
