Dorothy Brambo Green - October 29, 1932 - November 25, 2023

Departed: 11/25/2023 (Simi Valley)
Obituary Preview: Dorothy Brambo Green, 91, of Simi Valley, CA, died November 2023
Dorothy was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 29, 1932, to Gerda and Arne Brambo. She had a very happy childhood in Brooklyn and Hauge I Dalene, Norway where she grew up with her beloved older sister, Margaret. Unfortunately, her older brother (Konrad) died from Scarlet Fever before Dorothy was born.
Dorothy’s sister Margaret married Morten Johannesen when Dorothy was in her teens and the whole large Johannesen clan became a large and integral part of Dorothy’s life.
Dorothy became an Executive Secretary and worked for Texaco in the Chrysler Building in Manhattan. During this time, at the urging of friends, she decided to brush up on her Norwegian. It was in this class that she met her future husband, Robert (Bob) Green who had decided he would learn Norwegian. Dorothy and Bob married in Brooklyn, NY on May 24, 1953. They had three daughters: Elizabeth, Barbara, and Joyce.
They lived in Brooklyn until 1962 when they moved to Westchester County to live in a rambling old house on 2 ½ acres. This was ideal for Bob but less so for Dorothy. It was a big change from apartments in Brooklyn to a very large house, lots of pets and lots of produce from the garden and bushels of peaches! She tackled it all with her usual energy and determination. During this time as Bob traveled internationally for his job, Dorothy occasionally traveled with him but more often, was holding down the fort at home.
The family relocated to Beaumont, Texas for two years due to Bob’s work at Mobile in the mid-sixties but very eagerly returned to the same NY house during summers and after the 2-year work assignment.
In 1975 the family moved to Phoenixville, PA where Dorothy made many new friends. Dorothy really loved living in PA in a more modern house where the girls could have horses.
The end of 1980 was a time for big changes. Bob accepted a job in Los Angeles. Another move, this time to the west coast. This move was a little more difficult for Dorothy as all the girls had flown the nest. Dorothy ended up loving Simi Valley. As usual, Dorothy’s spirit and zest for life reignited as she began to create a new life in Simi Valley, CA including employment at California Lutheran University. She and Bob joined New in Town, Sons of Norway and Trinity Lutheran Church making many deep and meaningful friendships. Dorothy played bridge, dominos, and bunco. She was quite the competitor and watch out if you broke the rules! Dorothy loved theater, especially musicals, and loved dancing and socializing.
She was active in Sons of Norway and took on leadership roles in many of the organizations that she joined. Sons of Norway was dear to her heart as it connected her to her treasured Norwegian heritage. Dorothy took many trips to Norway and hosted many Norwegian relatives over the years. Dorothy and Bob traveled the US and the world together, during their 49 years of marriage. After Bob’s passing, Dorothy continued traveling around the world with family and friends. Some of her favorite destinations besides Norway were Egypt, Israel, Greece, Spain, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and China. Her favorite mode of travel was cruising. Many happy memories were made on cruise ships!
Dorothy was a devoted and loving mother to her daughters. She always supported and loved them unconditionally. She leaves behind daughters: Joyce Green, Simi Valley, CA, Barbara Searock (Steve), Sharpsburg, GA, and Liz Garfinkel (Mike), Eugene, OR. Grandchildren: Stephen Searock III(GA), Tyler Searock (CA), Jenna Addison(Zeke) (GA), Sara Garfinkel (OR) and David Garfinkel(Jordyn) (TN), Great grandsons: Kelso and Ledger Addison (GA), Nephews: Steven (the late Rose) Johannesen (NY), Robert (Marianne) Johannesen (NY), and David (Jane) Johannesen (NY).
She was fortunate to have many loyal and faithful friends, especially Viv and Carolyn. For many years with family spread far and wide, the Janke/Nadin family embraced Dorothy as an extension of their own family.
Dorothy was delighted to participate in celebrating the marriage of her granddaughter, Jenna to Zeke Addison in September 2018. She was even more thrilled with the birth of her two great grandsons, Kelso and Ledger. And very recently Dorothy was excited to officially welcome Jordyn Bidwell into the family as grandson David’s wife in November 2023.
She was predeceased by her parents, Arne and Gerda Brambo, husband, Robert Green, sister, Margaret Johannesen, and brother Konrad Brambo.
The memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Simi Valley, California on December 3, 2023, at 2 p.m. Her remains will be buried next to her sister in Greenville, NY in the spring of 2024. In memory of Dorothy, donations can be made to Sarah’s House Maternity Home, P.O. Box 941768 Simi Valley, CA 93094 (sarahshousesimi.org) or Samaritan Center Food Bank, 280 Royal Avenue Simi Valley, CA 93065 in lieu of flowers.

Lorraine B. Keaney - July 24, 1940 - November 09, 2023

Departed: 11/09/2023 (Simi Valley)
Obituary Preview: Lorraine B (Reynolds) Keaney passed away peacefully on November 9, 2023, at the age of 83.
Lorraine was born on July 24th, 1940 in Lynn, MA to Frederick and Pauline Reynolds. She was the ninth of ten children, and the second of three girls in the family. She attended and graduated from Lynn Classical High School class of 1958.
In 1959, Lorraine met David Paul Keaney at the Elm Farm grocery store. They were married in 1960, and went on to have four children, all boys: Paul David Keaney, Martin Frederick Keaney, Timothy Wyland Keaney, and Christopher Patrick Keaney.
Lorraine’s life was defined by overcoming – overcoming her husband’s three bouts of cancer while raising 4 children, a move of her family to California in the 1970s in search of new opportunity, a back injury that left her unable to work until it was fixed years later, a devastating earthquake that made their home in Chatsworth, CA unlivable (and then fighting the insurance company to build a new one), and the passing of her husband David far too early. She overcame all of it.
Lorraine reinvented herself after David’s passing. She moved from Los Angeles to Austin, Texas to be near her youngest grandchildren. She traveled quite a bit - locally all over the United States to see her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as abroad to Europe and Australia. In her 60’s, she started working at H&R block as a tax preparer, fulfilling a life-long dream to help others with their finances. Helping others was core to who she was.
Lorraine was full of life, and was often the life of the party. She was known for being spunky, always laughing, smiling, winking, joking and dancing. She was a gracious host that would go out of her way to make anyone (human or animal) invited to her home feel welcomed. She always fought for her family and looked to support them by any means necessary. She was an amazing mother, beloved nana and great grandmother and she will be missed.
Lorraine is survived by three of her sons, Marty, Tim (married to Debra K. Keaney), and Chris (married to Elizabeth S. Keaney); her daughter-in-law Kate, her grandchildren Beth (married to Peter C. Glein), John (married to Maria H. Keaney), David, Meghan, and Matthew; her great-grandchildren Cameron, Foster, Caleb, Marti, and Madeleine; her grand-puppies, Clinton, Lady, Harper, Loki, Aspen, Layla, and Marina; and her grand-kitty Lando.
She was predeceased by her husband David, her son Paul, and her brothers: Frederick, Arthur, Bob, Paul, Eddie, Richie, and Don, and sisters: Jackie and Karen.

Obituary Preview: Janet Elaine (Hassett) Regier, born on April 21st, 1949 in Albany, Oregon, was the cherished firstborn of Mary Jane (Ettinger) Hassett and Colonel Charles "Chuck" Tracy Hassett. Her childhood was marked by a sense of adventure, as her father's career in the U.S. Air Force led the family to many different homes in diverse locations. Her early childhood was spent in Japan, where Janet and her family made very special memories such as driving to Mt. Fuji while savoring her mother's homemade bonbons, and learning traditional Japanese songs in school. After leaving Japan, the family later settled in Alamogordo, New Mexico, where Janet attended school in a quonset hut, and then Madison, Wisconsin. Her early years were a testament to her adaptability and curiosity about the world. This set a foundation for Janet that would pervade her entire life of respect and interest in all the various cultures of the world and in their beliefs, traditions, customs and faith.
In 1960, Janet's family settled in Bellevue, Nebraska, where she eventually embarked on a vibrant high school journey. Her grace and talent as a dancer captivated the stage in school productions, while her involvement in the Bellevedette drill team, contributions to the school newspaper, and her dulcet voice in the school chorus were equally admired. It was during this time that she discovered her lifelong love, Philip, at Bellevue High. Their love story began with her as a junior and him as a senior, united by their roles in the school production of Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, "Carousel." Janet, a dancer in the chorus, and Philip, playing oboe in the orchestra, experienced love at first sight at the cast party. They married on August 23rd, 1969, after three years of courtship.
Janet's love for travel carried her in her twenties to both Western and Eastern Europe, where she roamed alongside her husband and family, collecting musical instruments and dolls from each country they visited.
While Philip pursued his doctorate at the University of Washington, Janet worked in various jobs that included being a Christmas elf for a department store in Seattle, getting her certificate as a licensed barber in both Washington and California, working in property management for an apartment building, and also completing several house renovations with Philip with every house they purchased, turning fixer-uppers into beautiful, elegant homes, fit to be a dollhouse.
Janet volunteered at the Rape Crisis Center in Los Angeles and the Suicide Prevention Center in 1979. She recognized the vital significance of being present on Friday nights, a time when the need for support was most acute and volunteers were scarce.
Although her initial path led her toward nursing, she found her true passion while taking a psychology prerequisite. She transitioned to earn a bachelor's degree in Psychology at CSULA, graduating with an impressive 3.9 GPA. Her educational journey, however, was marked by the onset of severe health issues that persisted throughout her life, altering her career ambitions.
Janet's most cherished role was as a mother. In January 1986, she welcomed her only child, Aletheia, into the world. In 1989, Janet and her family settled in Moorpark, CA. Once Aletheia began attending public school, Janet was an active volunteer in the bookfairs and in bringing entertainment such as puppet shows and special guests to the school, including arranging for a professional helicopter landing out in the field. Janet would often make treats for the class, and provide popcorn for rainy movie days when the children were unable to play outside. Janet would also dress up in costumes to the delight of the young students, such as wearing a full Easter Bunny suit, and once a full dog suit and giving out bone shaped cookies.
Janet and Phil then made the decision to homeschool their child, with Janet dedicating herself fully toward Aletheia's education. She imparted a strong foundation in classical literature, music, and the sacred texts of both Judaeo-Christianity and Hinduism. She continued to support Aletheia throughout their college journey, culminating in Aletheia's own master's degree in psychology and then through their intense study toward passing the licensing exam to becoming a fully Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
Janet was renowned for her boundless kindness and generosity. She possessed an extraordinary ability to connect with people, displaying a interest in their life stories and a commitment to offering unwavering support and assistance. Her radiant and nurturing personality, her contagious laughter, and her ceaseless thirst for knowledge endeared her to everyone she met.
Besides her love for learning, Janet had the soul of an artist. She excelled in oil painting, creating beautiful landscapes that depicted the serene beauty of forests, rivers, mountains, and oceans. As a gifted pianist, she deeply resonated with the timeless beauty of Beethoven's Für Elise and Moonlight Sonata. She also loved to sing songs by Elvis Presley, folk songs by Peter, Paul and Mary as well as Simon and Garfunkel, Joan Baez, Roberta Flack, along with spiritual hymns and sacred chants. Janet could also often be heard singing to her roses that she deeply loved and tended to throughout the various homes that she and her husband would share.
Janet's love for animals was evident in her constant companionship with her beloved Pekingese dogs, and her later care for parakeets, a canary, and finally a cockatiel.
Spirituality held a profound place in Janet's heart, as she practiced meditation and prayer for hours each day.
Even as her health deteriorated, Janet remained committed to caring for others. She spent her final days in the company of family, eventually passing at 7:30 am on October 1st, 2023 at Simi Valley Hospital. Her final moments were spent holding hands with her husband, who had asked her for just one last night together.
Janet is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Philip Regier of Moorpark, CA; her only child, Aletheia Regier of Eureka, CA; her sisters, Beverly McIntire and Rebecca Camp of Little Rock, Arkansas; her niece, Kellie Rogers; her nephew, David Rogers; and beloved pet cockatiel, Ace.
Janet is preceded in death by both of her parents and her much loved nephew Chris.
