Patricia Sherron Ringswald - February 13, 1926 - October 17, 2023

Departed: 10/17/2023 (Louisville)
Obituary Preview: Patricia Sherron Ringswald was born on Feb. 13, 1926 in a two room cabin on a farm near McQuady, Ky. She attended grade school at St. Mary of the Woods in McQuady and high school at Mount Saint Joseph Academy, Maple Mount, Ky. After graduating in 1944 she stayed at home and kept house for her father, twin brother and younger sister as her mother had passed away when she was a junior in high school.
After a few years, her brother married and he and his wife lived at the home place with "daddy" so Patricia went to Louisville and began working at Louisville Gas and Electric Co. from which she retired in 1989 after working in the Payroll Dept. for 38 years.
A few years after going to Louisville, Patricia met Richard "Dick" Ringswald and they were married in 1967. Dick belonged to a fishing club at Rough River Lake and he had a trailer there. They fixed it up, and it was a convenient place for them to stay on the weekends and fish. It was nice too that it was close to McQuady and they could visit with the relatives and also check on daddy who at that point was in nursing home at Hardinsburg. He enjoyed going out for home-cooked meals and a change of scenery at their place at the lake.
As Dick and Patricia came closer to retirement age, they began watching the ads for a more permanent home on the lake. They saw one advertised in the Courier Journal - an unfinished house in a nice location on the lake. They looked at it and decided that it was what they wanted. With the help of Dick's sister and her husband, they spent their weekends and vacations sanding drywall, painting walls and ceilings, laying floors and carpet, and all the other things that needed to be done to make the house livable, and then began work on the yard. They enjoyed the cruises on their pontoon boat and just relaxing on the deck that they built on the back of the house. They had everything fixed to where they could live comfortably after they retired when Dick was diagnosed with melanoma cancer. He passed away about a year and a half later on May 13, 1988.
Patricia soon found that she couldn't take care of two houses so she had to sell their retirement dream home on the lake. She worked for one year at LG&E after his death and then took early retirement. Patricia continued to keep busy taking care of the house and the flowers and growing a small garden at the house in Louisville. She also belonged to a Senior Citizens group, a Retirees group from LG&E, and a Widows group that each met once a month. Her cats, Sally, and then Missy, were great company for her too. Her niece, Marsha, lived close by and checked on her, and she was close enough to St. Stephen Martyr so that, for a long time, she could drive to church, the grocery, the doctor's offices, the drug store, and other places close by. She also became an avid card player, mainly playing nerts with family and friends. She was always ready for a card game!
Preceding her in death were her parents, Carl and Frances Rhodes Sherron, sisters, Sister Mary Carl Sherron OSU, Anita Sherron Kelel, and Teresita "Peggy" Sherron and brothers Brendan Sherron and twin brother, Patrick Sherron and her husband, Richard Ringswald.
Surviving her are sisters, Rose Sherron Strickland, Charlestown, IN, and Joan Sherron Hofman, South Bend, IN, 19 nieces and nephews and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Patricia's funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. (EDT) Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at St. Stephen Martyr Church, 2931 Pindell Avenue, Louisville, Ky. She will be buried beside her husband at New St. Mary of the Woods Cemetery in McQuady, Ky at 3 p.m. (EDT) Wednesday, October 25, 2023. Visitation will be from 4 - 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at Ratterman Embry Bosse Funeral Home, 2723 Preston Highway, Louisville, KY.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Stephen Martyr Church.
