John O. "Jack" Koch Jr. - July 30, 1940 - April 25, 2024

Departed: 04/25/2024 (Louisville)
Obituary Preview: Louisville, KY — John Oetken Koch, Jr., best known as Jack, passed peacefully among his family on Thursday, April 25, 2024. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, dad, and grandpa, and his absence is a void his loved ones feel deeply.
Jack grew up in the Germantown neighborhood of Louisville and attended St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic School, St. Xavier High School (class of 1958), and Bellarmine University (class of 1963). A veteran of the US Army Reserves, Jack was part of a communications unit that spent time in Korea which, among other things, resulted in a lifelong distaste for kimchi. He also spent time in Puerto Rico, where he enjoyed walking the streets of Old San Juan, Alaska, and Germany. From Germany, he sent home postcards labeled “from the Fatherland.”
Jack was a talented bowler and won numerous tournament trophies – all of which are still stored in the basement, a testament to his status as the family “pack rat.” He also loved playing cards, whether with friends at the dining room table or at the casino poker tables, and often enjoyed afternoons at Churchill Downs “playing the ponies.” He was an active member of the Knights Athletic Club and spent many hours there swapping stories with friends and frequently winning hands of Texas Hold ‘Em.
Jack met his loving and patient wife, Dianne, while working in the WHAS studio, where she was a receptionist. Married in 1967, Jack and Dianne started a family and worked hard to give their children every advantage they could. They attended countless sporting events and performances, and looked on as their four children passed milestone after milestone.
Jack played many roles in his lifetime – provider, crossword puzzle enthusiast, armchair coach for the University of Kentucky basketball team, and NY Yankees fan – but his most natural and joyful role was that of “Grandpa” to his seven amazing grandchildren. Jack loved babies and delighted them with cuddles and silly faces. He was a steadfast, reliable presence for all his children’s children.
Jack is survived by his loving wife Dianne, daughters Karen Koch (Danette), Amy Koch-Nett (Charlie), Angela Cooper (Jackson), son Michael Koch (Dawn), grandson Kory Njuguna, and granddaughters Joslyn Koch-Serrano, Katie Nett, Emily Koch-Serrano, Julianna Koch, Jaclyn Koch, and Jenavieve Koch, sister Elise Stevens (Dann), brother Ray Koch (Joyce), nieces Colleen Murphy, Kimberly Fonzo (Stephen), and nephew Chris Luckert.
Memorial to be held at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home (3800 Bardstown Rd., Louisville, KY 40218) Wednesday, May 1. Visitation from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with a brief memorial at 7:00 pm.

Mary "Nikki" Nicole Huff - October 29, 1974 - April 25, 2024

Departed: 04/25/2024 (Louisville)
Obituary Preview: Nikki was born on October 29, 1974. Too small to be called Mary Nicole, she was better known as Nikki, which turned out to be a more fitting name for her always. You see, Nikki always had a feisty side to her.
Nikki transitioned from our earthly world on April 25, 2024, at 11:20 PM.
Nikki was well-loved for her kindness to everyone, love, humor, and artistic flair. But above all, it was her love. She loved people from any walk of life, children, any underdog, and especially anyone shy, lonely, or broken-hearted.
Nikki's greatest strength was her ability to face any challenge that many would run away from.
Her four children proclaim that she was a fantastic mother, more than they could have hoped for. Those four are Chris Manley, Drew Liske, Stephen Manley (Karen), and Jessica Manley. Additionally, in her short stay with us, she was a grandmother to Kaylee Manley and Samuel (Sami) Manley.
Yes, she was a busy girl.
Nikki’s career varied with only one requirement – to not be tied down behind a desk. Her personality was too fun to be restricted to one spot, a fact that benefited her co-workers and customers. Nikki enjoyed dressing for work in holiday attire for every holiday. Why? Because it made people laugh and feel joyful.
Animals were a favorite of hers, as she demonstrated over and over. Among the lucky furry friends were Coco, Shelden, Boots, Mama, Roscoe, Jack, Hank, and Baxter. She never met an animal she didn’t love, and they loved her.
Along with her loving children are her parents, Shirley and Steve Elkin. Nikki had many family members, including aunts, uncles, and cousins. Her friends are too numerous to count.
Nikki was met in heaven by her son Chris, her grandmother Lucille Pike, and many others who loved her and were anxiously awaiting her arrival.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Ratterman and Son's Funeral Home at 3800 Bardstown Rd in her hometown of Louisville, KY.
If you were fortunate enough to know Nikki, you were born under a lucky star.
