Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ravenna. Pastor Russell Bonine will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery in Ravenna. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, December 1, 2023, at the church. Online condolences can be directed to www. rasmussenfh.com
Dennis E. Adams was born on October 11, 1950, in Kearney, NE, to Orville and Grace Adams. Dennis was a loving family man and a great friend. He was welcoming to all and never met a stranger. Dennis had a wonderful sense of humor and was known to be a jokester. He cherished time spent with his kids, grandkids and great grandson.
Dennis began his career after high school as a carpenter for Capital Bridge (Capital Contractors), working under the guidance of his father, Orville Adams. Recognizing Dennis's passion and eagerness to learn, his father imparted upon him a comprehensive knowledge of bridge construction, from operating heavy machinery to interpreting intricate blueprints. He worked for his father until age 28, when he was promoted to superintendent and led his own crew. This was a lifelong bond between them, and they would often “build bridges” into the night when the family was together. After many years of successful projects across Nebraska, Kansas, Wyoming, and South Dakota, Dennis returned to Kearney, NE, to be close to his beloved mother, Grace. During this time, he worked for Wilke Construction. During retirement, Dennis enjoyed driving trucks for his good friend, Rich Widdifield.
Dennis had many hobbies and recreational pursuits. An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing, boating, and hunting. His love for fish extended beyond the hook, as he dabbled in fish breeding like a true aquatic matchmaker. Dennis had a soft spot for canines and even tried his hand at raising homing pigeons. Anything with an engine revved his spirits, especially motorcycles and classic cars. Dennis never turned down a chance to witness his grandkids' sporting events, bringing his own brand of cheer and laughter.
Left to cherish his adventures and escapades are his son, Jason Adams (Lisa); daughters, Tisha Cornwall (Ron) and Rachel Cox (Dustin Weber); his adored grandchildren, Alisa Mingus (Adam), Samantha Pecka, Ryan Cornwall (Lexie), Brooklin Cox, Piper Adams, and Anna Cornwall; and partner in crime, great grandson, Fletcher Mingus. He is also survived by his brother, Jeff Adams (Lisa).
Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Orville Adams; mother, Grace Adams; brother, Ronnie Adams; and son-in-law, Mike Cox.

Lester Dean Duncan - November 15, 1948 - October 24, 2023

Departed: 10/24/2023 (Ravenna)
Obituary Preview: Lester Dean Duncan “Dean” 74 of Ravenna died Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at his home. Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at the Ravenna City Auditorium. Interment will be at Highland Park Cemetery in Ravenna at a later date. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to service time. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Online condolences can be directed to www.rasmussenfh.com
Dean was born November 15th, 1948, in Loup City Nebraska to Lester and Imogene Duncan. He grew up in North Platte and Ravenna, Nebraska. He graduated from Ravenna High School in 1967. Dean married the love of his life Dianne (Ruhl) on May 22nd, 1969, after which the couple made their home in Ravenna where they proudly raised 5 kids.
Dean had many businesses over his life including a construction and tree cutting service and a used car lot. Later in life he was a long-time employee of the City of Ravenna as cemetery sexton and owned his own grave digging business which provided services for many local cemeteries. He also was a proud owner and crew chief of Duncan Racing Team.
Dean lived and breathed dirt track racing. He dabbled in racing in the early 70’s briefly before becoming a push truck driver at Mid Continent Raceway in Doniphan Nebraska. In the late 70’s he started traveling and was pit crew member for Don Weyhrich. In 1983 he started his own racing career in a Nova and many other cars. He was a car owner and driver until the end of the 1988 season. He took a short break in 1989 and 1990. He then restarted his racing career in 1991 after purchasing a sportsman from Denny Egge. Dean then ran a sportsman or late model off and on at Mid Nebraska Raceway, Lincoln Co. Speedway, and Dawson Co. Raceway. In his time behind the wheel, you could always find many family members and friends along with him. His son Brian loved to be the crew chief and loved keeping track of points. His son Denton started chasing his dad in a sportsman in 1998. Denton had the privilege of racing side by side with his dad for 2 seasons in the sportsman and 2 seasons in the Late Model. Although Dean was well known for racing no matter what it took, he is well remembered for racing with a broken arm. He attached a suicide knob to the wheel and finished the season that way. He solely believed racing trumped everything in life like weddings, graduations, and even Husker football games. After a serious crash in the late model in 2013 he fully retired from behind the wheel and became car owner and crew chief for Denton. He watched and assisted Denton in winning 9 feature races, multiple heat races, and 1 track championship. He was also able to watch his grandson Paxton follow in his footsteps and start his own racing career for the past 4 years. Dean also had a love for talking. You could always find him somewhere chatting with just about anyone or on the phone with his son Denton talking racing.
He was proud to carry on a family tradition of grave digging. He started helping his dad when he was 17 and then took it over and continued to dig graves by hand for 53 years. After fighting 2 rounds of COVID he had to buy an excavator but was still proud to dig.
He absolutely loved getting all his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids together for some fun. He enjoyed many trips to skating, spring city, and the big apple. He always said he never wanted to grow up.
Dean is survived by his wife, Dianne, and his children Brian Duncan, Shannon Fricke (Damon) of Hastings, NE, Wendy Stubbs (Pete) of Wood River, NE, Denton (Cassandra) Duncan, Danielle Duncan, 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Darrell and Charles and sisters Alice, Betty, and Waunetta.
